Lol, you have a nice collection but your prices are completely unjust. $400 for the Rainbow poster? Ebay has a Rainbow poster for $10, a poster frame for $8, and a UV filter for $5. That is one hell of a mark up. Anyway, good luck.

Mariah does indeed look beautiful. She looks elegant, has poise, and is holding herself with grace and class. More of this please please please.

I have to agree, Glitter was packaged and promoted like any other Mariah album with singles, music videos, remixes etc. The difference between Glitter and, say, The Bodyguard is that the latter had music from other artists who contributed and other soundtracks usually have score music included too. Even "Lillie's Blues" didn't make Glitter. There's also no "Music from the Motion Picture" prefix. A lot of fans say it's the best selling soundtrack of the year, rather than a rather ill-received career low point (by comparison to her previous decade of success). Personally though I enjoy the album and always include it in rankings and other lists.

I play So Blessed all the time, I adore that song. I did listen to There Goes My Heart after years of not playing it and had a similar feeling. I love that song. It sounds like it was recorded on a beach or something.

From what I remember at the time, it was a live video from the Rotterdam stop on the Daydream Tour. Mariah said before the song began that it was being filmed for the video. I would love to see the professional edit as her voice was spectacular during that tour.

Interesting. This would be a good collection to have as it finally includes AIWFCIY. Kind of annoying though that it slips out of sequence chronologically. Glad Loverboy made it on there too.

Re: The Weeknd (66,950) (66,954)

Mariah has been the trendsetter in the past, and has never conformed to them. People have said she needs to duet with this person and that person. No she doesn't. The comeback and TEOM's success was down to it being a great album. A sophisticated set of songs, delivered in the way only she can. We Belong Together was a runaway success because it was a decent song, with universal appeal and relatable lyrics, with a dynamic vocal delivery. Mariah needs to focus on making great music, not duetting with The Weekend and Bruno Mars. If she writes with integrity and from the heart, success will come. She had nothing to lose with TEOM and it was her sincerest effort since Butterfly.

I don't think anyone is stabbing Mariah in the back. It's a song, people will either love it, be indifferent, or dislike it. There are songs of Mariah's throughout her catalogue which divide fans. We all love her and want her to have success, but blindly supporting a song just because it has her name stamped on it is madness. Infinity, Why You Mad, and Infamous have, for many, been three duds in a row. Beautiful and MIAM were great, so she is more than capable of her usual high standard.

I can't even remember a note of Infamous, that's how little it struck me. I don't think I even want to listen to it again lol. I hate saying this but please let's not have these "it was for Empire" excuses. Are you saying if it becomes her 19th #1 that it will be discounted because "Kitty" is singing it as opposed to Mariah? As if. MC had a real chance to bring something unique and special to a large audience and we got a Memoirs leftover.

Earpiece dramas, haha. Infamous hasn't wowed me but it might be a grower. As much as people didn't take to Infinity, at least it had some energy, a melody, and some showmanship to it. Good that Mariah is using current vocals and it is something she can sing live without an issue, but it just made me long for the days when she'd brightly and breezily beam out "I need a lover to give me" or "when you walk by every night", but we are where we are.

Favourite album list (66,778)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I always have a hard time ranking MC's albums as it varies on mood and what head space I am currently in. What I did was rank each on vocals, then the songs within, to give me an overall ultimate list of album ranking. The result was kind of surprising. This isn't to say any of the albums are bad, Mariah is my favourite because her albums form my "top whatever" no matter who is included. Anyway, I thought I would share for anyone interested or for you to make your own lists this way (sorry to everyone who dislikes lists but I love them). Unplugged not included but it is actually my all time favourite lol.
Vocals: 1. Merry Christmas 2. Emotions 3. Mariah Carey 4. Daydream 5. Butterfly 6. Emancipation 7. Music Box 8. Me I Am Mariah 9. MCIIY 10. Glitter 11. Rainbow 12. Memoirs 13. Charmbracelet 14. E=MC2
Songs: 1. Butterfly 2. Emotions 3. Daydream 4. Emancipation 5. Music Box 6. Me I Am Mariah 7. Rainbow 8. Mariah Carey 9. Glitter 10. Charmbracelet 11. Merry Christmas 12. E=MC2 13. Memoirs 14. MCIIY
Overall: 1. Emotions (4) 2. Butterfly (6) 3. Daydream (7) 4. Emancipation (10) 5. Music Box (12) 6. Mariah Carey (11) 7. Merry Christmas (12) 8. Me I Am Mariah (14) 9. Rainbow (18) 10. Glitter (19) 11. Charmbracelet/MCIIY (23) 12. Memoirs (25) 13. E=MC2 (26)

Re: Babydoll nuances (66,751) (66,765)

What I love about MC's music is, nearly 20 years after first listening to Babydoll, and playing that song literally thousands of times, I still discover new things about it which breathe new life into the song (not that it ever got old). It's happened too many times to mention, but her level of detail to her music is astounding. I remember flipping out when finding out, again only last year, that there are "hidden" whistle register notes going on during the bridge of AIWFCIY.

Thank you for replying. I noticed because I listened to Ring My Bell earlier in the day and then when playing through Butterfly later it went straight into my brain because Mariah sang that line in the same melody. It's cool because it links back to her checking her phone at the beginning of the phone.

Babydoll nuances (66,738)
by Bill from the UK

Listening to Babydoll. Love the ad libs at the end ("it's 3:27" etc). Am I right in thinking she lapses into a little bit of Anita Ward at 4:41? It sounds like she mumurs "you can ring my bell, ring my bell" like Anita's song. What do you think?

I never had an issue with Bye Bye either. When I first listened to E=MC2 I thought it would be a single as it seemed to be the baby that One Sweet Day and We Beling Together would make, and being her two biggest songs it was surprising it didn't chart higher. It was the first song of Mariah's that actually moved me to tears ("I wish that we could spend the holidays together" just struck a chord with me).

Re: Everything Fades Away (66,687) (66,688)
by Bill from the UK

Lol, so weird that we both grew up with that album ending on completely different notes and can't see it any other way. It just feels unfinished to me without Everything Fades Away giving it that sad and melancholy end. Maybe that was why it was left off, in terms of upsetting the general mood of Music Box. Everything Fades Away lacks that "wedding album" feel both sonically and with the subject matter that the other tracks all have. I remember when Rainbow came out Mariah said that "for once" one of her albums had a happy ending. Maybe she always saw Everything Fades Away as the true closer to Music Bix and was equally as perplexed as Walter for it being removed for the US market.

Where did you read that Everything Fades Away was considered "too black"? What nonsense (not you, just the notion). I think it was only the US version of the album which didn't feature the track, every other country had it included as the last track (certainly all of the European countries had it), and it completes the album by being the last track, it wouldn't be the same having it positioned anywhere else. I grew up for years and years with it being the final track and never even realised it wasn't on the US version until much later. All I've Ever Wanted is a beautiful song but it's no album closer in my opinion. To me, Music Box isn't finished until Everything Fades Away slowly fades away. One of the best songs she has ever done. I remember Walter saying he was devastated that it didn't make the US release.
