About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

London Daydream Tour Attendee.

Re: Celine vs Aretha and Patti (62,669) (62,677) by Bill from the UK
Aretha past her prime? Please. She ran circles around everyone that evening, including Mariah. Mariah had the sense to realise that and respectfully held back. Aretha was by far and away the best performer that night.

Re: Do they belong together? (62,466) (62,525) by Bill from the UK
I also did a double take at Touch My Body being a WBT clone. It's like, what? I've heard Don't Forget About Us, I Stay In Love, Bye Bye, Inseperable, and You're Mine all tarred with the same brush. The similiarity is probably the sparse production and a staccato delivery in the vocals. Thing is, when I first heard WBT, I just thought it was an updated Breakdown because of those factors I mentioned. The only one in the list that's sonically similar is probably I Stay In Love. I say to those that complain, get used to it, Walter style balladry ain't coming back anytime soon.

Re: The most overrated MC song and what's better (62,479) (62,497) by Bill from the UK
I'll Be There is probably the best remake Mariah ever has done, and ever will do. I love how the energy of the Unplugged album just grew with each song and the whole evening just crescendos and peaks with I'll Be There. Thank God that magic moment was captured live and is preserved forever. Mariah's voice, the beautiful background singers, Trey's solo. Not often do remakes trump the original but this sure did. Her stripped down piano and vocal rendition on Top of the Pops was one of her greatest, most electric performances ever.

Mariah's World (62,316) by Bill from the UK
And of course, if Mariah's World is a disaster, it will all be Stella's fault.

Mariah's epic performance (61,703) by Bill from the UK
I wonder if it will be the debut of the rumoured Beyonce duet. That would go down a storm if Beyonce walks out onto the stage to join Mariah.

Re: GLAAD award (61,637) (61,652) by Bill from the UK
I agree Andrew. Songs such as Looking In, Outside, and all the other "overcoming adversary" songs were about being bi-racial, but ambiguous enough to be interpreted for any given situation, such as coming to terms with homosexuality. She's then in the next breath singing soaring gospel numbers such as Fly Like A Bird and Heavenly. We all know what the Bible's opinion on homosexuality is. When asked to give an opinion on a demographic, her response is usually the stock "we love everybody", which as you say is as apolitical as one can get. So yes, bizarre that she has won this award.

Re: I don't know her shade (61,580) (61,587) by Bill from the UK
Okay, so playing devil's advocate here. If J.Lo "deserves the shade", what about how Emotions is essentially a cover of Best Of My Love but without the credit? Or that Make It Happen is I Want To Thank You in a different key?

Re: R-E-S-P-E-C-T (61,541) (61,568) by Bill from the UK
Great post Marissa. I remember years back I was trying to get my friend to listen to Petals and was explaining how deep and sad the song was. He took one look at the Rainbow album's back cover and said "How can you take anybody with a rainbow spray painted across their backside seriously?" And I was sort of speechless.

Re: I don't know her shade (61,550) (61,565) by Bill from the UK
It's the fans/lambs who won't let up with the "I don't know her" nonsense, not Mariah. If a fan wants to make a special top with it emblazoned on, or hold up a sign with it on whilst posing for pictures with her, Mariah can't help that. It's not her fault, or the fault of MC's team, that the "slay queen slayriah" crowd who've insisted on giving her this "shade queen" title behave like they do. I completely agree, it does nothing for how Mariah is perceived and paints her as a jealous person who is bitter of somebody else's success. There's this whole niche of stupid Mariah fans who have created this perception and only they are to blame for any bad press that comes off the back of it.

Re: MIAMTEC vs Butterfly (61,473) (61,486) by Bill from the UK
Whoa whoa whoa. Daydream is her best career vocals? In terms of the related tour, absolutely. Studio wise, it doesn't come close to Emotions or Merry Christmas.

What I love about Sprung is the Halloween backing track (only way I can describe it). That was one of my faves from Emancipation.

Stella (60,888) by Bill from the UK
I've avoided this message board for a while because it is becoming a childish game of one upmanship with each other and constant Stella bashing. Everything that has been said about Stella is an assumption based off a few instagram posts. Is it such a big deal that her child appears in a couple of pictures? Who cares? Why does this make her "an evil witch"? How do we know that Mariah spends more time with Stella's children than her own? Maybe half of the time they are with their dad. From what I can see, since Mariah hired Stella she's seemingly got her mojo back. Her voice is in fine form, her concerts in Europe have been extremely well received, she is getting good press and lots of publicity. That is a manager's job and Stella is doing it well. This is exactly what everyone was complaining to JD about for not happening when he had his stint as her manager. Make up your minds. JD was quickly taken out by the "lambily", and a happy and successful partnership probably won't be the same now as a consequence of how he was relentlessly hounded for something which we now all know was totally out of his hands and not anything he could have commented on. I don't blame Stella for reacting how she has to a handful of fans who have insulted her and accused her of wrongdoings based on speculation. It's all a nonsense. Grow up.

Sweet Sweet Fantasy (60,607) by Bill from the UK
It's great reading all the positive reviews going by in the press. If the only thing they have to complain about is her time keeping then so be it. She was late for her predicted start time on the Daydream tour. She was probably late out of the womb knowing her. It's not that big a deal.

Re: Do you think of me (60,535) (60,543) by Bill from the UK
Slipping Away is quite clearly about her crumbling marriage so maybe that's why it never made it onto the album. It's a real shame, that song is just sublime.

Re: Only one MC song (60,249) (60,273) by Bill from the UK
Great topic and I love seeing everybody's song choice. It is honestly so hard, it would be either Vision Of Love or AIWFCIY. I can listen to just those two for the rest of my life and die a happy man.

Re: Ease for new generation / 14th number 1 (59,960) (59,961) by Bill from the UK
But this is the time we are living in. If Mariah did something similar and tied up her new album with Samsung and it rocketed to the top of the charts, nobody here would be complaining. Equally if Mariah's next single featured Drake and as a consequence scored her 19th number one, we'd be celebrating and not saying she is "manipulating" the charts. Mariah's record will at some point be broken, either by Rihanna or another artist, just as she broke Elvis' record. Let's not be bitter and baying for Rihanna's blood because she is successful, just as Mariah was during the 90s. So long as Mariah continues to make great music and is happy in her life, then that's it for me. She made her mark in history, she has absolutely nothing to prove and she should never feel threatened by anybody. Her talent is completely unmatched and there will never be another Mariah Carey.
