About Bobby A from United States:
I have been a Lamb since 1990. I know Mariah. I love her music. I breathe her music.

Hopefully, the deluxe version will change album length. I am curious what MC has planned for the deluxe version. I hear remixes, extended, and dance versions for several tracks.

My complaint is that it's too short. Before you know it you're listening to the end track of the album. Hopefully the rest of the songs will grow on you. I have no complaints about any single track. I just wish there was one or two more.

Here For It All is brilliant (111,499)

So let's sidestep the vocal thing - I've moved to accept where she is vocally, the old girl's doing the best with what she's got.
Sonically, musically, lyrically, melodically, and emotionally this album is absolutely wonderful. The 70s production and sound running throughout is brilliant, and I wish she'd done that more. At times it reminded me of Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite.
My Love is beautiful, Jesus I Do with the Clark Sisters is up there with her better gospel numbers, especially as it's more in a "You Bring the Sunshine" vibe.
In fact, the weakest tracks are probably the singles. And some songs could do with being a bit longer. It's like this is the daytime celebration, and Caution is the downbeat evening counterpart. Like HFIA is the following day, looking ahead with nothing but positivity.
I didn't think I'd like it this much, but it was worth the wait and I'll be playing it non stop. Well done Mariah, great job.

There is just a negative atittude that comes from these music industry critics to always criticize MC's artistic work when they know that she really creates masterpieces that set her apart from other artists. Who cares what these critics and reviewers think this time?

That's such a strange criticism because, to me, the songs seem more solid than the ones on "Caution". The ballads "Nothing Is Impossible" and "Here For It All" sound much stronger than "Portrait" based on the clips I have heard. Other writers are complaining that she seems "too relaxed", as if that's a bad thing? Maybe Mariah's tired of the drama and just wanted to put together an album that was fun and healing for her? She's been working like a dog the last year or so, and she's clearly exhausted.
But ultimately nitpicking is what critics do to line their resumes and earn their living, so we really should take it with a grain of salt. The reviews for "Butterfly" on its initial release in 1997 were not amazing, but it went on to be considered her best album by many. I know we don't like Tommy, but he was right when he said "don't pay so much attention to what they write because it will be used to wrap fish the next day".

The review of the album by Rolling Stone is also relatively middling. They once again awarded her three stars for the album. But then again this writer also rated "E=MC2" as her second best album and "Memoirs" as her third best album behind "Butterfly", so take his critiques with large amount of salt lol. It seems like the publications are reverting back to their 90s pattern of letting people review the album when they clearly don't know Mariah's music.

The AU Project is by Luke Wyland. He is an Australian music reviewer. MC has never been huge in Australia. He is probably not a fan of R&B soul and gospel music. Is it true that Australians are very serious people and don't really find humour in a lot of things?

What an illustrious career. This article brings tears to my eyes because everytime my grandmama saw MC on TV in the late 90s to early 2000s she would say this statement to me. "I saw your girl on TV last night." She knew early on how much I loved MC. My grandmother was my biggest cheerleader and supporter. She never turned her back on me.

by Lambi from USA

Great observation. I get exactly what you're talking about. To me, she's always gone back and forth, not just with falsetto, but overall. Her tone on Music Box (especially in Without You) was deep, rich, and mature. Then on Daydream, you suddenly hear a brighter, more developed tone, subtly more feminine. By Butterfly, she fully embraced that feminine sound.
Then you get those deep, rich tones again in 2003 (You and I), and by 2005 (Stay the Night), she's hitting those stratospheric, bright belts.
With this upcoming album spanning seven years in the making, it'll be interesting to see which facets of her voice show up. I have a feeling it'll be a mix of MIAM and Caution, and I'm already hearing hints of E=MC˛.
This is why I think her instrument is such a freak of nature. You just never know what you're going to get.

Something tells me that MC really loves Play This Song. I know it is going to be one of my favorites on Friday. One thing we can say about Anderson .Paak is he has really been involved in all aspects of the Here For It All album and singles from songwriting to now video director. She needs someone like him helping her creatively.

Thank you for sharing MusicFan. It looks like Here For It All will join Mariah Carey, Butterfly, Glitter, and Caution as MC's most cohesive albums. I am sitting on pins and needles knowing that we are about to hear new music after 7 years. I have been listening lately to Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, The Clark Sisters, Paul McCartney (My Love), and Deniece Williams to gauge what Here For It All will sound like. The promotion this week kicks off when MC joins the CBS Morning Show to talk with Gayle King.

Good critics for the new album (111,367)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I was surprised to read good critics about her new album in a German online newspaper today (Welt-News) which I wanted to share with you. The critic wrote, he was able to hear the album in advance and was very pleased. It's a combination of RnB, powerballads, adult-contemporary and hip-hop influences. So everything she's known for and loved the last 35 years. He also said "Here for it all" is one of her best ballads and worth the wait. Wow, now I have high expectations. He liked the self-irony of some of her lyrics which is very rare for a non-fan too. I was almost shocked to read something so positive. So now I can't wait to hear the full album like in the good old days.

Don't worry Jamie. HFIA will be available on 9/26 for you. AI said that it could be a regional variation because of the time zone or country. All systems are working together to make sure HFIA drops on 09.26 in all time zones and countries.

I like the fact that MC is finally stepping out of her box. MC knows whatever SZA writes and sings on reaches this generation of young people and becomes a hit. Sza's and MC's comical and shady lyrics are very similiar. I would like to think that my tweet back in June to MC, Sza, and Rodney Jerkins initiated a collaboration. I forgot to retweet it myself to see how many people viewed it and let me review the engagement data.

Something between them for sure with [Apple Music] on the 24th now after MC sent her that response that Apple Music posted with an eyes emoji. I feel if they have recorded a collaboration, they're not going to release a remix or a song not listed on the album at this point.
Very likely that it's an interview, with Sza interviewing MC. Though all the sudden love exchange between them in the last two weeks clearly points to them having cooked something together. I wish that was on the album it would have really helped the album sales.
Also, the iheart performance was pretty okay. One of her only performances I've actually managed to fully watch in the last few years. Mostly lipped yes but some decent involvement and energy, better outfit and the great hair.

Rollout evaluation (111,353)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I wonder what the last song MC recorded that she talked about in June. Gamma may have heard it and thought let's save this song for a later single and release Sugar Sweet instead. Also, there was probably a back and forth about a August or September release date after Type Dangerous only spent one week on the Hot 100. The situation kind of reminds me when Michael Jackson released I Just Can't Stop Loving You as the first single from his Bad album. It was unlike him at the time to release a ballad as a first single to launch his new album. It was a surprise Hot 100 number #1 song. Anyway, Type Dangerous was different for MC and did not explode on pop radio like Gamma had hoped it would. It needed a video premiere on the release day to perform better on the Hot 100 in my opinion.

Rollout evaluation (111,343)
by Randy from USA

I gotta give it to MC and y'all know I don't like anything. I've enjoyed this rollout. I liked the little interviews about the album covers, her what's the next line interview previewing Mi, her going to the radio interviewers and podcasts, her talking about her videos interview, her previewing Mi with merchandise, I liked the MTV performance and the video for Type Dangerous was pretty good. I like the album artwork and the track listing. Hopefully she'll do some television this week. I have two issues. And they are major. The first is the choice of singles. Even the most die hard "yasss queen" would have to admit that you put your best foot forward when you need an album to do well. Type Dangerous and Sugar Sweet while ok songs are album tracks at best. They are not singles and that worries me for the album's quality. The second thing is that the fact that she and Gamma thought they were singles and ushered the rollout a month too early. It was delusional. If I had to grade this rollout I can't give it an A+ because of them acting from purely false hope. I would have to give it a solid B. I'm excited for Friday but very apprehensive about where this will rank as far as quality in her catalogue.

I get why some of you may be disappointed by the album's length, especially due to the time we've patiently waited for new material. I for one don't mind it. The appeal of Caution was how concise it was and that it felt like a tight, deliberate production. Shorter albums are easier to spin for me. As I don't do playlists and listen to an album end to end, it's much easier for me to play Emotions, Daydream or Unplugged than it is to book an afternoon off work to listen to the 97 tracks on Charmbracelet, and sit there watching my hair turn grey as she enters into the whispery chorus of Lullaby for the 27th time. Okay, you should just hug him goodbye. I get it.

Scorpios are natural detectives. I was once on a dating app for three days and my Scorpio female friend found out everything about a guy I went on a few dates with. Even what the inside of his house looked like (from when it was listed for sale before he bought it). She found so much information about him with very little. I think I just knew his name and his birthday. She always has the tea before anyone else at work too. She's low-key and quiet but she notices everything and people just tell her stuff. It's crazy. She doesn't like everyone so I'm thankful to have her as a friend. She's very loyal too. Scorpios and Geminis are supposed to be the "bad guys" of the zodiac but they're my favorite. I'm a Taurus.

This video claims she had hip replacement surgery back in 2000? That sounds pretty outlandish - having hip replacement at the age of 30/31. What possibly could have been happening at that time to cause such a surgery? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Day 6 - #1's (1998) + Sweetheart EP + I Still Believe EP + Do You Know Where You're Going To EP
September 17 is day 6 of the listening party, and we're stepping into the #1's era - a moment that doesn't always get the spotlight it deserves, but is way more interesting than people give it credit for.
By '98, Mariah had officially shut the door on the Tommy chapter and was living in a new kind of freedom. She went above the execs and flew straight to Japan after the divorce to meet with the head of Sony and hammer out her exit. That meeting cleared the way for a new five-album deal and a chance to steer her own ship. The label pitched a standard "greatest hits", but MC felt it was too soon to put a bow on her first act. So she turned it into a thank you to the fans - a celebration of becoming the female artist with the most U.S. #1 singles (13 at that point, edging out Madonna's 12).
What makes #1's special is that it wasn't just a trophy case; she gave us four new songs to keep the story moving. Sweetheart, a cover of Rainy Davis's ‘86 jam, came via Jermaine Dupri. The JD collab is fun, but the solo Mariah mix is where the magic lives: the production has room to breathe and her voice is front and center. And those low low's. My oh my. I know many of you listen to Dreamlover, Fantasy, Honey and Heartbreaker, in that order. The solo version slides perfectly between Honey and Heartbreaker.
And then there's When You Believe - the song that won an Oscar and gave us a moment nobody dared to dream of until it happened. Babyface built this sweeping gospel ballad for The Prince of Egypt, but it became something even bigger the instant Mariah and Whitney walked into the studio together. Two-thirds of the vocal trinity, finally side by side, not as rivals but as women with voices powerful enough to move mountains. You can feel the respect in every note, the way they listen to each other and lift each other up. What started as a soundtrack cut turned into the beginning of a real, lasting friendship between two legends who'd been unfairly set against each other for years. RIP Whitney - her light is still in that song.
I Still Believe is a full-circle moment: the Brenda K. Starr song she used to sing backing vocals on, now reimagined as her own. That EP is one of her best. The Pure Imagination remix, Stevie J's take with Mocha & Amil (her second all-female feature after the ABMB remix), and a stack of club mixes that still sound fresh today. The single made it to all the way to #4, proof that even her "bonus" tracks could almost hit the top.
Finally, Do You Know Where You're Going To (aka the Mahogany theme) finds Mariah leaning into introspection, and also into the Diana Ross lineage she's always nodded to. Tommy supposedly encouraged J.Lo to cover it after hearing Mariah wanted to release it as a single - so yes, it seems the seeds of sabotage were planted well before the Glitter days. But we love everybody and we move on.
And can we talk about the cover? That silver mini, the hair, the attitude, that pose - she looks sexy in the best way, referencing Ross's Diana album while serving "I'm free and I know it". It's easily one of her best covers.
Looking back, #1's quietly set a template: after MC, everyone from Michael Jackson to Destiny's Child to The Beatles put out their own "#1's" sets. But Mariah's wasn't just a compilation; it was a statement that she was still writing the story, even as she paused to celebrate the wins.
So spin the album and the EPs tonight. #1's might look like a stopgap on paper, but it's really the sound of an artist closing one door, opening another, and thanking the fans who'd been with her every step.
