Twister. Such a sad song. Love the unresolved ending. It was said this song is about her stylist Tonjua Twist who committed suicide in 2000.

Re: Why so melodramatic? (66,317) (66,318) by Musti from UK
I don't deny the need to pull stunts to remain relevant. I also agree that today's industry is very visual and she can't effectively do the same promo today that she did for her earlier albums. Sexy is the easiest way to attract attention and she's a beautiful woman with a gorgeous body. However I think she's gone way beyond sexy. Most of the time it looks tacky and desperate. And she's taken the diva act to incredible heights over the years. When something continuously (and almost universally) gives you bad rep, why continue to do it? Instead of slipping into a sexy dress or doing professional shoots with eye-catching themes, she chooses to have diamond/splash/bra/(almost) nude moments with Mishka's shaky hands on the camera. It is miles beneath her. I probably wouldn't have minded if it was like this once in a while but this is all the time now. What most of us can't stomach is watching her do things that are damaging her and her career. I can never give up on the music. But I can't agree with the way she's currently trying to reignite public interest. It might be good promo for Mariah's World, but what good is it if she ends up destroying her reputation in the process? There will only so be many moments before she's forever known as a washed-up diva.

Re: Ill fated Memoirs album (66,257) (66,262) by Musti from UK
I've been listening to H.A.T.E.U. too lately. Even though it's not Mariah's best lyrical moment (I really don't like the bridge), the song's composition and the vocal arrangement are brilliant. Her voice is so on-point on every line. That transition from chest belt to whistle at the end is to die for. I doubt this would've ever been a hit even if promoted properly. It's not really chart material. But it's one of the gems in her repertoire. A highly underrated one.

Summer songs (65,868) by Musti from UK
Billboard posted an article listing the Top 10 summer tunes of each year up to 2015. Mariah topped two lists, in 1990 with Vision Of Love and in 2005 with We Belong Together. If I didn't miss anything, Andy Gibb and Katy Perry are the only other singers who were at the top twice. Mariah was also in the Top 10 with I'll Be There, Always Be My Baby and My All. I'm sure Fantasy, Honey and Heartbreaker would've made the lists had they not been released in September/late August. It's a shame Dreamlover didn't make it to the 1993 list, since it reached #1 in September despite being released at the end of July.

Madonna (65,850) by Musti from UK
A friend of mine who is a huge Madonna fan said to me once that Mariah actually went to a Madonna concert and that they took a photo together backstage. I believe it was the Confessions Tour. I searched high and low for this pic but could never find it. Unfortunately I'm not in touch with that friend anymore. Now that we are talking about Madonna, can anyone confirm this? I don't think it was true and I'm not too bothered either way. But it'd be nice to know.

Re: Michael Jackson cover (65,804) (65,821) by Musti from UK
I was going to suggest "Butterflies" too. She loves that song. I think I would love it more if she covers "Gone Too Soon". Such a sad song and I really don't think there's a single singer on this world who can do justice to it other than Mariah. The lyrics would also make a perfect tribute to MJ.

Re: R-E-S-P-E-C-T, stop being petty (65,713) (65,716) by Musti from UK
You're so right. I was talking to a lamb last week who said we are not true lambs for creating/signing the petition or for speaking out against her antics. This person also said her non-ensembles are playful and that if she stops being herself she'll simply be Celine Dion. I'm sorry but at least Celine is well respected, even if she doesn't make chart oriented music. And she's got a great style too. It's not like Mariah is anywhere near scoring a hit by strutting her stuff or showing off her lavish lifestyle. Enough is enough. There are whole valleys and oceans between becoming "Celine" (whatever the hell that means) and cheapening yourself like Mariah. The woman is out to destroy her legacy. Her music has lost its relevance and has become highly repetitive. She has no style. Her public appearances are extremely awkward. She's obsessed with herself and everything expensive. What the hell is going on?

Re: Mariah's voice (65,624) (65,638) by Musti from UK
Watch Vision Of Love/Infinity live at the Billboard Awards. I think the whole thing makes my point pretty clear. You attempted to dissect yet you haven't actually said anything technical in your post to make you more than a casual listener (as you named it). If you honestly think that Mariah is still capable of the melisma of 1990 Mariah outside the studio, I really truly don't think you've been watching any of her live performances from this decade. You really shouldn't create this artificial standard that she herself is still trying to recreate. She is human and her voice changes just like any other human beings. You would really be doing yourself a favour if you begin to accept.

Re: The voice dilemma (65,595) (65,609) by Musti from UK
I agree. The woman is clearly drenched in insecurities and the standard with which the public judge her singing has really worked to her disadvantage over the years. I don't think she has a problem reaching the heights that she did in the past. If anything, the Christmas shows, SSFT and Vegas show that even the high chest notes are still mostly (if not entirely) there. The only problem is she can't perform her coloratura/melisma tricks anymore. Her whistle has always been fluid but even that has taken a more dramatic form. The way she's been whistling on Hearbreaker lately is a good example. Or the way she often goes off-key at the end of Vision Of Love. I don't mind if she wants to engineer the hell out of a couple of album cuts for old times' sake, but I think it's time to embrace the new dramatic aspect of her voice. Her singles must represent her voice as it is now since these will be the songs she actually sings on stage. Coloratura is too much for the lay listener anyway. History is filled with examples of opera singers taking on different roles as their voices change over the course of their careers. There is no shame in it.

Re: This is what you came for (65,271) (65,276) by Musti from UK
It is catchy indeed and I was sure it would be #1. But I think her team diluted the song's potential by having too many Rihanna singles out there at the same time. When Work was #1, this song was already out along with Needed Me and Kiss It Better. And now there's also the song from Drake's album. Too much? Still, it's a hot song and things might change. Hopefully not.

Re: Probably the best documentary on MC (65,247) (65,263) by Musti from UK
It's funny that you posted this. I was watching it too last week and I could swear I didn't remember some of the parts even though I'd watched it a few times before. The part about the alleged boob job is interesting. It made me think that perhaps TM was not so against Mariah going for a sexier image, if he really did buy her the boob job. He couldn't have been that oblivious to what was going on in the industry at the time with singers increasingly dropping more and more clothes. Sexy was becoming the new norm and Mariah had to keep up. I think his main issue was the hip hop direction. He just did not want her to hang with rappers.

Re: This is what you came for (65,243) (65,261) by Musti from UK
I was thinking about the same thing. The song is still achieving small gains on the radio where it's sitting at #2, behind Cheap Thrills. It's currently sitting at #17 on the US iTunes chart and Cheap Thrills is at #11. I'm not sure how its streaming stats are but overall it looks like it's still behind Cheap Thrills.

Re: Mariah and Pavarotti (65,113) (65,117) by Musti from UK
I'm not really a fan of this performance. Although Mariah sounded amazing, I don't think Hero was a good song for Pavarotti. Or perhaps they could have arranged his part better. Especially when they start singing together, it just sounds like a whole bunch of noise. In any event I'm very glad they sang together. Pavarotti had long wanted to sing with her when the rest of the opera world did not even want to acknowledge her for her technique.

Sia (64,796) by Musti from UK
I hope Mariah collaborates with Sia one day, even if it's just writing a song together. Sia is extremely talented. Her recent stuff pales in comparison to her earlier work. Colour The Small One is an iconic album. I'm really happy for her for finally scoring her first #1 on Billboard.

I found the WBT one too. He's incredible. The TMB video has nearly 13 million views. He is definitely onto something.

Re: Clash and Complex (64,719) (64,724) by Musti from UK
I wouldn't say fishing by the sea and posing in what seems to be an Illuminati induction ritual would look the same or potentially have the same meaning if pictured. Why go to that elaborate length if she's not trying to say something specific? I'm hoping this was just a dark direction for the purposes of the photoshoot. Otherwise I'd be very disappointed.

Re: Clash and Complex (64,717) (64,718) by Musti from UK
I think this might actually be the real her she's setting free, as many others have noted on this board. Perhaps she likes fake people and being half naked all the time is her inner peace. I like the Clash and the Complex photos. I like the dark direction in Complex but the Illuminati signs have really put me off. I was always proud of her for not being "sold" despite her immense popularity. But I guess they all give in eventually. Marissa, you asked what would be a dealbreaker. This has come pretty close to breaking my deal. If she really has been inducted into this organisation, there's nothing left to say. As RibbonB has said, it pretty much explains everything that's been going wrong with her behaviour lately.

Re: Webmaster questions (64,622) (64,624) by Musti from UK
That was very insightful. I guess that explains what happened to some of the other fansites. With or without the others, you have given us a great fansite and I'm glad you didn't quit. I remember the times when most of the posts on this board were fans looking to trade items. Now it's a big community, fans discuss a whole range of things. And your discography page is still unparalleled. It's what first got me onto this website back in 1999. Thank you for everything you've done to make MCA the best fansite.

Re: I don't think you're ready (64,587) (64,592) by Musti from UK
Andrew I see your point but I really don't think a petition with a "don't this, don't that" type of attitude would elicit a positive response. This petition is meant to be a nudge. No one is expecting things to change in a finger snap because of it. Things are pretty embarrassing as they are. I doubt this petition can make it any worse. If it does get embarrassing, at least it will be for the right reasons.

Re: The petition is in full effect (64,523) (64,582) by Musti from UK
I signed it too. Thank you for creating the petition. Mariah is the first artist to name her followers and she frequently brags about her connection to us. Considering she used to leave us voice messages (another first for any artist, if I'm not mistaken), things have definitely changed on her official pages. I understand her life has changed but it wouldn't take much of her time to have some personal input in her own posts. Unfortunately the hashtagged photos often posted have done little to maintain the existing connections. If anything, the photos are repeated reminders of many connections crippled. Her social media lacks substance. It needs to be handled by a professional.

Re: Insta (64,218) (64,223) by Musti from UK
She looks beautiful in that pic. Gorgeous smile. Such a shame there is always something destroying her pics one way or another. By the way, are we certain that Mishka is the one editing her social media pics? It's hard to believe that this job will be put in the hands of a teenager. If so, she clearly has a very single-minded approach to what the public wants to see - sex, and sex only. Lately I've been thinking that Mariah needs to be coached while being photographed. It's always all about how beautiful she is, which is fine when it's extraordinary, but other times I am just left thinking there is no purpose or direction in any of her pics.

Change (64,169) by Musti from UK
How sad that so many of us are emerging with the same emotions and the same frustrations. I wish there was something we could do. I think none of us would come here complaining if we didn't truly believe she's still got it in her and that she could still come out on top. I don't think anyone from her team comes here to check the pulse. We've been complaining about the image for weeks, and yet she still poses with Brett in a mini with her legs spread open. I still believe that ridding herself of some of the dinosaurs in her team was a good idea, but the replacements aren't doing her any good either. I'm tempted to think that MW's push-back is a matter of rescheduling to coincide with an upcoming single release. But not even the hottest song/production will save her career if she doesn't drop the self-obsession and the vulgar sexiness. To those who have said Mariah is not a politician, I'll take social awareness or simply anything else over what is being posted on her social media, any day. Some things have got to change.

Re: Ariana sounding like Mimi again (64,166) (64,168) by Musti from UK
Thanks for sharing that. She can't seem to let Mariah go. But I must say it's a nice song. She sounds far more original here than The Way, Only 1 or many of her other songs.
