Don't expect Mariah Carey to sing at her upcoming wedding. The singer gave an update on her wedding planning when she was joined by her fiancé James Packer at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City on Saturday, where she was being honored with GLAAD's Ally Award. After telling reporters that her tour had delayed the upcoming nuptials, she did reveal that she had picked out her wedding dress. But when asked if she would be performing on her big day, she made it clear that she would not.
"Why would you sing at your own wedding," she asked. "It's obnoxious!" Wedding planning aside, Carey told People that she has fun preparing for big events (like the GLAAD Media Awards) with her 5-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe - aka, Roc and Roe. When I'm all ready, they're like, 'Mommy, stay home, we want you to stay home'," she said. "So it's not as easy as it used to be to get ready and go to an event. I have to make sure they're good and settled and then leave."
As for what she finds cutest about her two kids, Carey naturally said "everything". "I've been bringing them up onstage when I was on tour, because they wanted to be onstage," she said. "But then they just kind of run around. And, I'm like 'Ah, somebody help.' I had, at that time, two 4-year-olds running around stage, and it doesn't work."
Inside the event, Carey was presented with her award by director Lee Daniels, who called the legendary singer his "best friend". "Thank you for the unconditional love," she said as she accepted the award. "Because it's very unusual for me to experience that. I don't have much of it. So, I thank you and wish all of you love, peace, harmony, and, as my 5-year-old son likes to say, 'Boobies and butts!'"
