Mariah Carey surprises with new Christmas song
|
Mariah Carey added to is adding to her beloved catalog of Christmas tunes with a new track on The Star film soundtrack. Carey tweeted early Friday (October 20) morning, "Surprise! My new Christmas song The Star is out now." The song is available for download via iTunes now, while pre-order of the entire album is expected to begin on October 27.
The song follows suit with the religious plot of the film The Star, an animated feature depicting the story of the first Christmas. Before a children's choir joins in to sing the hook, "Follow your heart, it's Christmas," Carey sings, "Follow that star above you. Should the world try to break you down. There is one who waits for you. Though you can't see him now. Thunder and rain surrounds you. But His love's just a breath away."
Carey's reveal comes a day after Fifth Harmony told Harmonizers that they'd be contributing the new song "Can You See" to the soundtrack of the film starring the voices of Steven Yeun, Kristin Chenoweth, Zachary Levi, Gina Rodriguez, Tyler Perry, Keegan-Michael Key, Ving Rhames and many more.

Just had a chance to check the new song out and, to be perfectly honest, not sure I'd like to hear it again, let alone on repeat.

Love it and positive about it and let the critics do what they are good at. Obviously she is a business lady who contributed to this project, go MC. Like that Oprah and Tyler are on this project too. Good to see this continue. I wish she would dump Stella though.

Aww. I was hoping she would use her old higher belt. It's not very reliable, but I'm sure she can produce it in a studio environment, and it would have kicked the song up a notch towards the end there. She mostly uses her low nasally tonefor the duration of this song, or the liquor tone if you will , which is my least favorite MC tone since it goes nowhere. But it's very reliable for her so I guess the plus is that she should be able to perform it live. I've always thought that she should do the impossible on the recording, even if she can't reproduce it live. At least we will have a stellar recording. But I guess there is also merit to not overdoing it in the studio if you know you probably can't produce it on stage.

The song is ok, a bit cheesy for my liking. Felt like the song would be more fitting for a musical in the West End. I wouldn't actively listen to the song again. The last note however was very impressive, clearly Mariah is still very talented. 3/5

I am not a critic and I am totally biased to MC so I love it and have it on repeat and love Dem Babies on it.
