July 22 vocal moments (55,555)
by 123 from USA

She did really good in these clips. Her voice is getting better. Her tone is sounding buttery again and her belts are clear. What I've learned is that if she performs on a continuous basis her voice seems to always get better. I hope the improvement continues and happy to see her returning to form.

Languishing, Angels Cry, H.A.T.E.U, Christmas Time Is In The Air, When Christmas Comes, Cry, Faded, Camoflauge etc. are all examples that Mariah still remains a skillfully majestic songwriter. That's one thing people can't say she has lost IMO, because I can always point to a gem on each album.

Mariah's stage presence (55,553)

Her Mimi show was so good, she did her snippets, she did a hot version of "It's like that", she's not a dancer, so stop waiting to see her do a routine.

No, I'm not joking, or trying to get any attention. Merely stating my opinion like every other user on this board. I think that Mariah's writing hasn't unfortunately gotten better with time. I mean Infinity? I liked Camouflage and Cry was ok (I guess) but they don't hold a candle to her previous work.

How old are you Jake? I ask this question because you sounded really immature saying that. Like seriously? "The Art Of Letting Go" I dare say just might be the greatest song Mariah Carey ever wrote. It comes from a place no other of her songs, not even "Side Effects" came from. Lyrically, vocally, melodically, anyway you wanna spin it, that song is a masterpiece.

Mariah Carey in Vegas: going for the high (55,549)
by B from USA

Mariah's recent vocal mishaps haven't changed how I feel about her or her songs. In fact I'd argue it's made me love her even more and made her more relatable. She's Mariah Carey and I'll always support her because she's earned my loyalty.

It's hard to top Butterfly, which is her most lyrical album. While I agree that "The Art of Letting Go" is quite bad lyrically, Mariah has written some gems of late. "Betcha Gon' Know" comes to mind. And the deceptively simple "Meteorite", probably the best lyrics from the last album.

I agree that since her fall, she has exercised more caution when on stage. And after nearly falling over walking through the crowd during Heartbreaker and the boat, I completely understand. I would too if I was told I would have lost the use of my arm after a fall like that. As for the songwriting, are you kidding me? Camouflage and Cry are her deepest songs since Petals and Close My Eyes. There is a raw honesty there that she has not put into her songs for a long time and it was refreshing for me to hear that she can still write songs like that, without having to go into a driving beat like Side Effects. I am still in awe of her writing ability, and I marvel at it. She is still light years above all the Katy Perry, Taylor Swift etc. abilities to write a heartbreaking ballad that actually carries emotion and maturity.

Mariah can still write an amazing song. I can't. I do agree that the pop culture references are dated and boring but she is a very talented songwriter.

Going for the high (55,542)
by Bino from

That "Going for the high" article should teach some fans here in the board about the value of music and the deep connection between an artist and the fans. The critic/fan is realistic and clearly not stuck in the past. And it is such a breath of fresh air to read something from someone who not only has a knowledge of his craft, but also has understanding of the nuances of music and a sense of empathy above all. The tone is not arrogant, not condescending. Take heed.

Mariah Carey's stage presence (55,541)
by Malcolm from Asia

But, one thing is really bothers me and I think it is normal and can really improve by her is her stage presence. I just notice that her movements when performing is not the true Mariah Carey on stage. She is conscious when moving but I think it is because of what happened to her last 2013 I think when she shoots for the spanglish remix of #Beautiful. After that incident, I really notice the change in her stage presence like she is sometimes nervous and the result of that is she is not owning the stage like she used to before. I just watch her "Save The Music 2005" performance of I'll Be There, and that is she really is when performing, you can feel the emotions, she is moving freely and owning the stage like on the 1000th level. I somewhat agree on the person who says that Mariah is now like a high school girl who has stage fright. But for me, she is more like a very talented high school girl but has a stage fright. After all, it can really be changed, she just must accept that she is having a problem performing on stage and be open for improvements or it can come back naturally, depends of how happy her life is.

To be honest, I agree. Mariah's writing just doesn't captivate me anymore, like it used to. Most of the ballads on MIAM weren't good, The Art Of Letting Go was really bad, lyrically, in my opinion.

She looks amazing. It's sexy, but it's not cheap, it's real classy and elegant, just like she is. She's losing weight so I guess she's been working out. She could've chosen another colour because she's wearing a lot of black lately (I can understand her choice, I wear black a lot too). 2015 is lifting MC up and I like it.

Mariah Carey (55,538)

I just read the articles about the 2015 Icons Portfolio of MC and the review of Ryot about her Vegas Residency, and while i'm reading this two, I became emotional seeing the sympathy, respect, and treating her as a living legend. I'm so in love with her shoot for Harper's Bazaar as Marie Antoinette, we just saw another side of hers, the vibe, the "it's so suits her" costume and every detail of it, it is all on-point and unexpected. And for the Ryot's review, it is so emotional and uplifting as a fan of her. The whole review is very relatable and true, it is just the truth. I know all of us wants the best "for" Mariah, and "from" Mariah, but after all of this and that, after all the demands from her, she is just a human. Many of us became critical on every aspect of MC and I think this is the time that we realize and accept the new norm of her especially with her voice. If some of us feels irritated when she is not sounding like the 90's or the original recording, we can start realizing that even if it is happening, she is better among the majority of her colleague and the newer ones. It is what it is, but if she can bring back her old voice then it is grateful to have and to hear.

MC at Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Summer TCA Tour in Los Angeles (55,537)

When she attended the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Summer TCA Tour in Los Angeles, she looks great. Not too diva-ish, but just plain, simple and elegant. Stylish like in the 1994-1998 era. I hope to see her going that direction back again.

Mariah Carey in Vegas: going for the high (55,536)
by Lee from UK

"If her voice today sounds relatively strained - a stark matter of anatomy and aging ... it's not her responsibility to somehow regain the able-voicedness she once possessed. No: it falls on us, the listeners, to listen to this difference differently, compassionately." What an eloquent writer this journalist is. I often wish for the vocals of the 90s but I know it is me who has had to adjust to Mariah's vocals over the years. I am still here. I am still a fan. For me, the only thing Mariah needs to improve is her song writing. Her music just doesn't grab me like it used to.

Mariah was at the Hallmark red carpet talking about a Christmas movie that she will supposedly direct and star in. Not sure if it's the same movie as the RatPac one since she said she won't star in the RatPac one and that she is going to be an executive producer, not director. Anyways, I just saw the pictures and wow she is serving simultaneous Rainbow and E=MC2 era beauty. She seems to have lost weight too since she looks thinner both from the frontal shot and also from the side shot. The shot from the front is serious Rainbow/E=MC2 era vibe. Mariah just looks so much younger when she wears short dresses and shows some legs. But please none of that Chanteuse tour champagne 2 piece which exposed her undies but more of the length that's just above her knees. I hope she puts away the longs gowns for a while. They tend to age her most of the time.

If any NBC executives happen to be reading this (55,534)

Just saw that Mary J and Latifah are cast in The Wiz remake. Wouldn't Mariah be the absolute perfect person to play Glinda the Good Witch? The role that Lena Horne played in the film. It's a small role (more like a cameo, really) but has the biggest song in the film, "If You Believe". Who better than Mariah, the queen of second-person narrated inspirational songs, to fill Lena's shoes?

You're so lucky that you were on the Zurich show. Judging from the videos I've seen on YouTube, this must be one of the most epic vocal moments of Mariah's entire career. The performance of "Vision of Love" is mindblowing.

That was funny. Thanks for the laughs. I sometimes want to respond to some people in a negative way. This is a better approach. We can't changed some people here. Just like we can't change the fact that Mariah will return to Vegas, will have her Christmas concerts in New York and will go back to Europe. Oh, wait. And we can change the fact she will finally get her star on the Hollywood's Walk Of Fame.
