The video, Mimi L and ideas, wasted opportunity (54,080) by Tiina from Finland
Exactly, they could have done so much with this video. All this time and we get a video that seems like it was scrapped together at the last minute and the storyline falls short. Of course we expect it to be good because they've been hyping it up for so long and because we know how well Mariah and Brett work together when they really sit down and work it out. He's directed some of her best videos. I'm also not going to lower my standards just so I don't get disappointed. She's Mariah Carey and he's Brett Ratner after all. It doesn't have to be this huge motion picture, but I don't understand why they didn't work on that storyline some more. It took us probably a few minutes to come up with something that is both funny and ties all the scenes together. It wouldn't have required a bigger budget either, just a few more scenes (or less beauty shots) and a little dialogue. Mariah is joking all the time anyway, just press record. I like that idea Mimi L had of her having a party with her friends at the end. How about celebrating on that rooftop overlooking Vegas? Really Mariah should have hired us lol.

Infinity (again) (54,077) by Lee TS from USA
Now watching the teaser or promo for Vegas which it really was a clip to promote the residency, it just slays. In that little bit, every second was utilized. From the opulence shots of her diamonds and kitten slipper it really showed the diva in her glamour space. From her singing "lose the key" in that quick/slight pan and the way she was coming forward and upwards was everything to me. Her looking up to the beauty lighting and singing for a quick second was splendid. From the way she looks to the side at the vanity singing Infinity implying it's not forever. Of course the lipstick drawing of infinity and erasing it emphasized the message. The way her curls were bouncing and she giggling was cuteness for days and prominently featuring her beauty mark. Then the connecting hair flips of her silhouette and closet was just amazing. Her running in her sequinned gown was also fabulous, if there's ever a moment that requires hair being blown it was that and she perfects it with a quick pose and over the shoulder moment. Now back to the video, why in the sam hell was Mariah lounging on a sofa and not a chaise lounge? That whole shot irks me. Towards the end when she giggles and twirls up in all that confetti, it for some reason made me think of Hocus Pocus. If I didn't know, I seriously would've thought that was a body double on stage because of the wig. With the opening shot being the guy on the violin, it would've been nice to see Mariah also get lit up in one of her famous silhouette shots. It was too jarring. Why did she forget how to apply perfume? She sprayed but didn't do a diva twist instead she did the dab technique. The butterfly ring barely made an appearance. Shout out to the World Music Awards dress making an appearance in the closet. I don't truly understand why she would turn down Frito when he's brought splashes with him. Shout out to the puppy being inspired by Ginger. There's plenty of moments.

The buzz created the expectations (54,076) by Rene from US
Our expectations were high because this song along with the video are a celebration of her 25 year anniversary of her career. I will never stop being a fan and always try to be optimistic. Although, her team created the buzz not us. I thought it took long to release video because it took too long to edit the video. Yet, it did not have any state of the art stuff that is difficult to edit. Brett Rattner could've done a better job. The video seems lazy. I thought it would have more creativity and a better plot. I get the idea but they could've first shown Mariah all sad from the breakup with no make up. Her make up smeared from all the mascara. Even she could be throwing out "the bag" and even lighting "Nick's" car on fire and his diamond shoes the ones he wore to America's got talent. Or do I like that scene from "Waiting to Exhale" too much? Mariah could have had a transformation from a miserable person to the vivacious diva she is. I would've chosen the scenes from the concert at the end. They could've shot the opening of the curtains from her perspective, what she sees when she goes on stage. All these people go to see Mariah sing until infinity. The build up should be noticeable in the plot. The scenes seems to scattered. That's my rant for this video. I love her but I was expecting more.

Infinity video (54,075) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
M looks beyond amazing, but the video fell so flat. I'm getting that they couldn't commit to the original concept so they just "got it done", because clearly they were running out of time. Even the editing wasn't that great, they could've cut back and forth between storyline and Vegas moments more often than they did. And I'm mad the shots of her strutting and twirling in the dark wasn't in the video. I too was ready to get my life from that part. It reminds me of YME all over again when the video that was behind her in the BET performance slayed the actual video. I would bet they have some great shots on the cutting room floor and it could possibly be the case of "rush job" editing. Mariah should stop working with friends and hire some young, talented, and still hungry directors who will take her videos more seriously.

Is the video that bad? (54,074) by Bill from the UK
Well the knives are out it would seem. I think the video's fine and Mariah looks amazing. The suitors at the door brought a smile to my face and I quite like the fact there are shots of her on the Vegas stage. Maybe these days, rather than diving into swimming pools and being hoisted up into helicopters and cat fighting your evil twin, a stunt is MC walking down the stairs without the side of a couple of burly men? I'm just playing of course. I like the video and it's miles better than HATEU, YME and the like.

Will there ever be a Mariah Carey video without the decollete in a leading role?

Thoughts on Infinity video (54,072) by Marissa from USA
Mariah looked stunning, but the video was lackluster to me. Considering that Brett Ratner worked on this product, I expected a lot more creativity. I agree with those of you that would have preferred a storyline to make the video more captivating. I also agree that they probably wanted to do more with this video but ended up biting off more than they could chew. It was a big improvement from the You're Mine video but it still didn't wow me. Oh well.

Mimi L (54,071) by Kate from UK
I know what you mean about songs be touted as the next number 1, and it of course has to do with expectation and everything Ardis said. There sure have been a lot of excuses over the flops, but alas, what can you do? Maybe Mariah and co know TEOM or even E=MC2 levels of success just aren't realistic and therefore released #1 To Infinity and combined it with Vegas as celebration of the number ones. They wouldn't release a #1s album if they thought MC would be getting a number 1 the next year. That doesn't apply to the original album though because it was a contractual thing. (Right?)

Janet Jackson (54,070) by Musti from UK
She is coming back. Has anyone listened to her "I'm coming back" message? That's the sound Mariah needs if she wants to streamline R&B again. MIAM was a great album but nothing revolutionary. The 2000s also saw Janet's comeback but she couldn't go too far because of one of the most sexist blacklists in music history (the Superbowl incident) when Justin Timberlake got a clean slate. So don't underestimate her. Her music was very influential in the 90s when R&B was just becoming popular. Mariah needs to update her sound if she wants to be popular again. And also drop the ultra-diva personality.

Music video (54,069) by NYHotShotta from USA
I have to agree with many of you the video didn't live up to any expectations. Originally, they said the video was gonna be amazing and have all these kind of stunts. I think the video needed a more variety of different scenes and shots just like the WBT and DFAU music videos. I think they could have her perform in the middle of the Vegas strip with all those lights in the background sort of like the cover of the Glitter soundtrack or those shots in The Roof video where she's singing on top of the limo.

Ardis (54,068) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I have always enjoyed your posts and I respect your opinion. I am however assuming that your last post was directed at either me or Tiina or Licia. I can only speak for myself and this time around I didn't expect something just because I thought this is MC's next comeback. I had high expectations because Mariah herself fed us the high expectation. I don't think I need to repeat her and Brett's remark about the song-video combo, the press release of the hotel owner talking about her stunts, Mariah herself talking about how Brett and her had discussions about the stunts. Holding off a video for over a month fueling expectations that maybe the video is that great that they are waiting for the song to fall so that they can re-ignite it. I don't blame myself or any others disappointed by the video for having high expectations. We are all entitled to have our own feelings towards the video/song. Neither I, nor anyone else who didn't like it tried to tell others that they are wrong to love the video.

Who is the third man on the video? (54,067) by Bruno Ávila from Portugal
Hello guys It's my first time posting here, but I am a fan since the Music Box era. Who is the older guy in the Infinity video? Miguel?

Kate from UK (54,060) / MC3U / Janet (54,066) by Musti from UK
I agree. Infinity might be R&B/Pop, but it's too much for the radio. I mean, honestly, has there been any radio song in the last 10+ years that goes into an acapella high note before it wraps up? So dramatic. Not to mention the violins. But it makes sense on stage. I do believe the video could've been much more engaging. But it doesn't make the song any less fitting for Vegas and for an album that's promoting the residency. It's a poor move in terms of a successful single, but she's doing Vegas now and clearly not the charts. I'm also disappointed about the MC re-release in December. Perhaps it will contain different takes or unreleased songs or her show from the Beacon Theatre. Otherwise I won't be buying it. As for a new album, I don't think this is a good year as Janet is coming back from retirement later in 2015. She is no Mariah, but she is a legend and does have a very large fanbase. You can't have two legends coming back at the same time.

Licia (54,065) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Dahlin' the struggle is real. I get how you feel. I wonder why they left out the gorgeous shots of her getting ready and sitting on the chaise lounge like the first teaser (although she did write it's not the real video) but she looked gorgeous in them. I think I wouldn't have been this disappointed with the video if MC and Brett didn't yell over the phone/radio that it will blow our minds haha. Also please tell me I am not the only one who thinks that the shot of MC in her closet (during the "name hold weight like kilos" semi-rap part where she is bouncing and awkwardly looking at the came) was really awkward. I was like whose bright idea was that? Until she popped the champagne bottle or threw herself at one of the closet doors, she looked like she is feeling awkward. But the woman looks sexy and beautiful to the power infinity, I'll give her that. She looks younger than her TEOM days. Gorgeous girl.

Expectations lead to suffering (54,064) by Ardis Logic from Earth
In life, when you have expectations, you are setting yourself up for suffering and disappointment. It also works in this situation. If you just let it be what it is, then you will not be so disappointed. I think the video is beautiful. There is no way to expect MC to fulfill your fantasy of the "perfect" video, single, or album. She can only give us what she can. Just try next time not to expect so much and just let it be what it is. That is just my opinion on it. Much love to all.

Kate (54,062) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I don't know if you were here when there was a major showdown going on about how in the past few years, every time a single was announced, it was touted the next #1 and then every time it flopped it got dubbed as a buzz single. I will leave the technical definition at the end of the post. To clarify my previous post. When "Triumphant" was released, it was going to be the start off a new era, it was the return of MC. Dubbed the summer of MC. If the song was a success, the album would have been released shortly. But it flopped, and immediately MC and fans alike started dubbing it as a "buzz single" and "a song for Nick". The song was dropped from the album. Then came #Beautiful (which went fine until the accident). Then TAOLG, which was again going to kick of the new era (with all the first time ever Facebook event, Mariah on the bathroom floor because the wrong version was released) after the delay post #B. It failed to make any impact and no effort was made to push it and it got dubbed as "a single for the fans". Then came YM(E) and it was again going to be Mariah's 19th #1, up until it was released, which again failed to make an impact (excluding dance charts) and it was dubbed "a song for V-Day only, MC is now making V-Day anthem after conquering Christmas and also it's a song to tide us over till the proper single named Thirsty, which will be the 19th #1". Thirsty came and went, no video, no promo. MIAM was dead. Your point about singles being released to promote is right, but not all singles are buzz singles. When I say proper single, I mean it as the opposite of buzz single. Technical definition in music, a buzz single or advance single is a track or promotional song, released by the label (typically) preceding the album's release. The song(s) are released in order to bring attention to an album's release. Buzz singles are not typically issued to radio as promotional singles, but this will not prevent radio stations from playing the songs. Buzz singles are not always included on an album.

I loved to talk to you. Do you have an e-mailaddress or skype?

Mimi L (54,060) by Kate from UK
What is a "proper single"? All singles are released to promote and create buzz for something. It's not like it was a random coincidence that Mariah happened to be performing in Vegas just as Infinity was released. Sure you could say it was to promote the album, but the album is the theme of the Vegas residency. Personally, I would class a "proper single" as a song released to promote an album with new content on it.

To: Henrique Pereira, that is my comment posted on YouTube actually (54,059) by PieterLamb from Indonesia
First of all, I'm so delighted to see Mariah's new video "Infinity". At first I thought it was so so music video than Mariah ever made previously. But eventually I have my opinion on some symbolic things. One of my opinions was said by Henrique Pereira earlier on this message board. Actually it was my comments posted on the YouTube comment. Thanks for sharing my opinions though. However it would be better if you mention the source.

My opinion on the "Infinity" video (54,058) by Nick from USA
I love the video so much, it wasn't anything spectacular, but it is her best video since "Obsessed". To be honest, I was expecting a video like "I Stay In Love" (which is my favorite MC video) with a real type of Vegas theme, but I wasn't going to get my hopes up. I like how this video actually has a story and does not just consist of beauty shots (#Beautiful, You're Mine, etc). If there was one thing I could change it would be the use of performance shots, they were done nicely and she looked beautiful in them but they shouldn't have taken up half of the video, I feel like there was more to focus on then just those shots. Overall, I am very pleased with this video and happy that we finally have it.

Infinity video (54,057) by Mike from FL, USA
Ok, so I'm a little underwhelmed by the video. Like others, I just really assumed with all the hype, it would have been something new and refreshing. Oh well. On a positive note, Mariah looks amazing.

Mimi L (54,056) by Licia from USA
I agree with you Mimi L. There was so much that they said was going to happen and it didn't. I expected a fun TMB type video. The logical side of me knows that maybe they just bit off more than they could chew and they ran out of time. They couldn't do the video in the way that they really wanted, but the irrational/fan side of me wanted them to present a video in the way that they described. Irrational me is winning right not. Lol.

Bad blood: Can you still count them on one hand like Mariah JLo? (54,055) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
2. We all know that classic Mariah line like the back of our own hands don't we? She started saying it back in the Butterfly era when she finality left Tommy and found herself wrongfully mired in rumours of promiscuity. Thanks a lot Valentine, good looking out. Meanwhile, Tommy plucked JLo out of obscurity and proceeded to groom her in Mariah's true image quite literally. Signed her onto Sony despite her less than silky vocals and threw everything that that would stick Mariah had fought tooth and nail nearly a decade to get at her. From her wardrobe and styling to her merger of Hip-Pop with Puffy, Cory Rooney, The Trackmasters etc. But dear old Tommy didn't stop there, no, he had JLo mock Mariah's very commendable choice of not being promiscuous by copying the statement she had made her own like Mariah is apt to do. When promoting On The 6 and several years subsequently JLo could be heard saying the exact same phrase almost verbatim. Coincidence right? Don't make me laugh. This was yet another way to screw with Mariah on a psychological level and both Tommy and JLo did it with that specific intent. It doesn't matter if JLo was being truthful at the time. It was the very fact that Tommy and she must have discussed his intimate life with Mariah and decided it was to their advantage if she was made painfully aware of it through mockery. No one can tell me any different. Passive-agressive 101.

Does Mariah Carey need a better gaydar? Nah (54,054) by Vítor Henrique Pereira from Brazil
Some lambs say, "Mariah keeps leaving with a gayboy everytime." It is a symbolic thing, darlings. If you noticed from the "IInfinity" music video, there are 3 types of men appearing, similar like Nick (Tyson Beckford) and the older guy (similar like Tommy, her first husband) and then Jussie Smollet, a "coincidentally" openly gay guy. As you know, most of the male lambs are gay, in which she gets their love and support "to infinity".
