I laughed so hard at B's "Mariah didn't release underwhelming songs about her surfboart" and Tiina's "I also don't understand why she's decided to just sing about screwing now". Haha, you guys are awesome.

Fat shaming (54,027)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
When Mariah is heavier than her Touch My Body days the media pounces. When she gained some weight during the TEOM era the media said she blew up like a tire. It is fat shaming at its finest and she isn't even fat. Once Mariah loses the weight she'll be considered hot again which is insane because she's still gorgeous and is by no means overweight. The media has been having a field day because she hasn't dropped the weight like she usually does which most likely means she's going about it in a healthy way. If she starved herself or went on some insane diet it would most likely affect her vocal cords. I would prefer Mariah happy and healthy with the ability to sing instead of thin and miserable and unable to sing. I know I'm rambling, lol. Does anyone understand what I'm saying? Mark my words the next time we see Mariah she will have shed the weight and she will be confident like she was before the marriage. Mark my words, the media will be fawning and it will be glorious lol.

Concerning Beyonce (54,026)
by Jono from USA

I think she should be given more credit. No she is not the most original artist, but she is one heck of a performer. Most entertainers who have spectacle/dance in their routines don't bother with the vocals as much (see Britney and JLo) but she still sings. Yes she may be overpraised and overexposed to the point where she is starting to get backlash, but Beyonce has always made it a known fact that Vision Of Love is what inspired her to learn vocal runs. Unlike other pop acts who don't bother acknowledging legends that have paved the way, Beyonce has always given the utmost respect to Mariah from what I've seen. Same goes with Rihanna. They've never written MC off as "irrelevant" even though that's such a corny and popular term for the instant gratification generation, who are so quick to throw around the utmost praise for their favorites who haven't earned the right. Even though B may have a far too pristine and perfect image, it says something about how her and her team are in control of her press. I could only wish Mariah received the same amount of universal love, but that just comes with a stellar PR team which MC lacked the past couple of years until late.

Alejandro / top remixes (54,025)
by Bill from the UK

My gosh, just three? That is such a tough one. Love your choices. UTS drifting remix is divine and MC's scatting on the AYNAF remix is awesome. There are so many iconic remixes like Fantasy with ODB and the Def Club Mix of Dreamlover. However, if I had to choose, it would be the following (in no particular order): 1. Dreamlover (Bam Jam Soul) - Apparently this was the original version of the song before Sony asked Walter to make it more pop and less street. It sounds so much freer and relaxed to me. Much more care free and breezy than the version we all know and love. 2. I Still Believe (Pure Imagination Remix) - Wow. This is a masterpiece, it is literally a completely different song. The only resemblance to the original is the title. I think this is a wonderful track, so dreamy and mellow. 3. One Sweet Day (Sweet Acapella) - This is just a beautiful, beautiful rendition of the song. Such a joy to listen to. The harmonies between MC and Boyz II Men are spellbinding. So many honourable mentions though. The Joy To The World club mixes, the Mr Dupri Mix of ABMB, My All/Stay Awhile, and two mixes I must highlight. The Bossa Nova versions of both Butterfly and DYKWYGT are stunning. What a great topic but so incredibly hard to come up with just three.

Since we're on the subject of Beyonce, her sister is much more interesting and I listen to Solange's music so much more. Her voice is softer and easier on the ears. Unlike Beyonce, Solange keeps to a singing level that fits her voice and doesn't try to show off. I always think this is a smarter move if your range isn't that big as it compliments the music. I'd love to hear MC's and Solange's voices together, plus Mariah recently retweeted her.

Nobody is scared of Jay Z or AL Sharpton. I can honestly say I wouldn't be one of those black folks boycotting anybody because they said anything against B. They blew that roboho comment way out of proportion. Lol I like some of Beyonce's songs, but I'm not a diehard fan. Her first two albums were great. Anything after was blah IMO. The one thing that Beyonce has that Mariah doesn't have is diehard fans who will except anything that Beyonce puts out. She could do an album full of farts and her fans would buy it and swear it's innovative. Mariah fans on the other hand want real, quality music and unfortunately if she doesn't give us that a good majority of us won't buy it.

Listening/watching her impromptu performance of ILT makes me wish Mariah would do something similar to Kylie Minogue, who re-visited her hit songs and stripped them right down and re-invented them. I think she released that album maybe a couple of years ago? Wouldn't it be incredible for Mariah to do something like that?

I like Beyonce in passing, but I agree with you all she's beyond overrated. I'm sorry, but she's just an okay singer to me, her voice is very contrived sounding, from her forced vibrato, to her yelling tone. I've honestly never been amazed or thought "wow how did she do that with her voice" etc. I'll give her consistency singing wise (though her voice doesnt "wow" me she never sounds horrendous) and great show-womanship, but musically her songs just doesn't stand the test of time to me. I own a few of her albums and honestly they get old really fast. There's only a few songs here and there I can go back and enjoy, but the majority is just pop fluff. Her team did a great job at turning her image around though, because during that Destiny's Child period where two member were kicked to the curb, she was being called out by the media and even parodied on SNL and Mad TV and an controlling, egotistical b%tch. She (and her team) went into damage control overhaul and starting promoting her as "sweet and shy". Girl please. I'm sure not wanting to ruin her precious career is the reason she's painfully private and does not utter a shady word about anybody or anything (anymore that is). Anywho it worked wonders for her. Even though I can always spot a fraudulent heifer from a mile away.

Britney / Beyonce (54,019)

How can someone's voice be shot if they had no voice to began with? Britney Spears can't sing, never could. She's practically the queen of auto tune. Next collaborater. I agree about Beyonce. She's definitely overrated. She's a decent singer but certainly nowhere near Mariah. I think Mariah should take a breather. Find herself as an artist and as a singer. Get back in shape, get some new producers and record some great material. [censored] On a side note, I'm missing Edward.

B has dumbed her lyrics down and sexed her image up. Mariah did these things but didn't devote entire albums to sex and world dominance. Beyoncé's ego is out of control and yet it's Mariah who is getting labeled a ditzy diva. She didn't and doesn't deserves 20 Grammy's. She did the surprise release because she didn't have a strong single. In a few years, most likely sooner than that, B will be facing the same challenges Mariah is facing now. Mariah didn't release underwhelming songs about her surfboart that are half sung half spoken. At least Mariah includes something for every fan on every album and that alone makes her a rarity. That is a daunting challenge and Mariah is still able to do just that.

Random but I was watching Wendy in one of the past hot topics and she was going on about MC being paranoid about a staff member reporting back to Nick. Now, what if that sold out was Rachel aka RaeRae aka Racine. She's been noticeably absent and it's a bit strange, she's usually there to fix a mic pac or screaming at fans. Anyways, I hope MC is surrounded by a great supportive team who wants to win and gets the job done.

Mariah favourite remixes? (54,015)
by Alejandro Cole from Colombia
| |
|
|
Hi guys. I decided to have a week of Mariah's remixes and re-visit them as she used to "re-sang" all her vocals for those and it is like listening to a whole new song. But I really can’t decide between my 3 favorites: 1. Underneath the stars (Drifting Remix). This one is Mariah on a very Hip hop mood with smooth and awesome new vocals and arrangements. You can feel her dominating as no one the R&B that run though her veins. 2. The one (So So Def Remix). This one is perfection. She acomplished a whole new song out of an existent song, new words meaning and flavor. Showcases Mariah's vocals in such an unique and effortless way that makes me wanna turn up the volume in my car for the whole world to listen. Is the "put your shades on" song for me? 3. Anytime you need a friend (C&C Club version). I mean, just sit and learn everybody. This is a master class of vocal ability.I don’t feel like saying anything more. So what are the 3 favorite remixes of you lambs? Love you, bye bye (whistle tone like).

I agree Trox. Beyawnce is so overrated. 20 Grammys? She has done nothing innovative, imo. She can dance, I'll give her props there, but I can't for the life of me understand how she came to secure 20 Grammys. I'd put money on it that the old adage that says, it ain't who you know, but who you blow, applies to B. On another note, Mariah must release the Infinity video asap.

MC and Britney collabo (54,012)
by Marissa from USA

I know I could have worded my post in a way that was less blunt, but I don't want Mariah to collaborate with someone for the sake of being courteous and not hurting someone's feelings. I want her to do it because it's a beneficial career move. Yes, it would have stung me if someone didn't want to work with MC when her career was struggling, but it's understandable for an artist to prefer to work with someone who's in a good place in their career. At the end of the day, it's about business. Mariah has barely cleaned up her career and gotten on the media's good side and I don't think she can afford to work with someone who's image/voice is also struggling just yet. I'm not saying never, just not now.

by Lee from USA

Beyoncé is overrated. But it is easy to be loved with Jay-Z as your husband and Al Sharpton and the NAACP in your back pocket. Everybody is scared to death of Jay-Z due to the fact he stabbed a dude and gotten off. Nobody wants to have Al Sharpton and a group of black folks picketing outside your business. Remember how TMZ called to Beyoncé as a "robo-ho"? Al almost blew a gasket, and yet he is never around when Mimi gets bashed.

Absolutely, Beyonce is a monster on stage, although having been to her concert, I have to say I expected more. The show was choppy and I didn't feel like the audience got to be part of it because of all the choreography but that was also due to the setlist and Jay Z performing his songs. I'm going to be honest, I went there to see Beyonce, not him lol. Prince is still the best performer I've ever seen. He had the ability to shrunk an entire arena and make it feel like we were in a club. It was incredible. I expected Beyonce to do the same. And her voice isn't bad, it's just not the best either. It can be jarring listening to her ballads, except the live versions of Listen. Oh, and her rendition of Take My Hand Precious Lord was simply unsettling. She can't sing songs like that, basically any song that requires actual human emotion. She's at her best when doing uptempos, she has the perfect voice for songs like Freakum Dress. I also don't understand why she's decided to just sing about screwing now. I'm so glad Mariah doesn't do that because it gets old fast. Mariah actually has very few songs that have strong sexual innuedos. I love her for her personal lyrics. I can't think of any songs by Beyonce similar to Petals, Close My Eyes or Cry. I listen to Beyonce almost strictly only when exercising. I know it sounds like I'm hating on her, I actually do like and enjoy her but I just don't understand why she's worshipped so extensively and blindly.

Your post were spot on about the overrated Beyonce, sorry, I'm not a hater. Beyonce's career is so drama free and calculated. She is always kind to other female singers. And I know why, she has no wannabe singers that looks or sound like Beyonce. Mariah is always, been linked to other singers (J.Lo, Christina, Jessica Simpson, Leona, Ariana). But there is more, because Beyonce is black (sometimes). She is like the black female singer that the media needs, to be politically correct. That's why she is so overrated at the Grammy's. When need to give this black women a Grammy, so the world can see we are not racist at the Grammy's. Mariah is biracial, and that's not easy to classify. Mariah's career had many public dramas, like the label thing at Sony, breakdown, two divorces. That's why I'm always supportive to MC. She writes and produces her own material, sings her lungs out of her body, and still so underrated.

The problem (54,008)
by George Golden from UK
| |
|
|
The problem is Mariah not been able to change her sound. Infinity is not the type of music someone of Mariah's status should be releasing at this point in her career. She needs big uptempo numbers with producers like Pharrel. If she wants to stay relevant she needs to step out of her comfort zone. Why was Infinity praised as her next number one before it came out?It seems to be the case for the past five singles she released in the past. I don't think she should retire its just too soon, I think she has got so much more to give. The reason she lost most of her fan base is because she is insisting on being just an rnb artist than a pop star. She has really boxed herself. I just pray for a redemption before it's too late.

Beyonce / Vegas (54,007)
by Lee TS from USA

Are we really gonna hate on Beyonce now? You may call her overrated, over exposed, pretty perfect image but the girl delivers. She's an amazing performer and she works hard for it. Too rehearsed, I rather that than Mariah being under rehearsed. That's the tea. Things like Beyonce ain't the brightest, ummm, I don't think Britney is either. And I love me some Britney and glad to see her doing her thing. One thing Mariah can learn from Beyonce though is how to properly lip sync because she has it down haha. Beyonce should just announce her Vegas residency and shut all this mess up, that would be funny. While I don't see Mariah doing any female collaborations anytime soon, it would be cool (and unlikely) to see her work with Celine, JLo, and Britney on a Vegas commercial. Imagine something like backstage and diva antics, like a "come see us in Vegas" moment. It would finally put an end to some feuds.

Yup. It's actually pretty ironic that Beyonce gets praised for the diva image Mariah gets hated for, yet up-close and personal Beyonce comes across as a bland woman who doesn't have anything that interesting or deep to say, and behind Mariah's diva image there is an intelligent, knowledgeable and vulnerable woman with an incredible life story and an incredible talent, who has this body of work that in so many ways is truly groundbreaking. When all is said and done, Mariah will be the last one standing as the most influential female artist of all time. I'm not saying it's all Mariah, she has a hard-working team behind her as with any star and she has collaborated with other talented people and together they've created music that will stand the test of time. But she's not lying or exaggerating when she says she writes or co-writes her own material, the lyrics, and melodies as well as the music, plus she produces. Many of the brilliant ideas for using different samples and doing certain cover songs came from her. She was the one who wanted to collaborate with ODB, Boyz II Men and Jay Z, it wasn't a marketing thing where a collabo between two artists is only done because it's hot for the moment, like J.Lo and that Iggy whatshername doing that booty song. First of all, that song is crap (why they keep comparing J.Lo and Mariah is beyond me, there is no comparison in terms of talent or the music they do) but there's also nothing organic about that at all.

Wow. Beautifully stated Otti. Some people really don't have the capacity to discern between realtalk and backtalk. Somehow they always manage to back the ones who backtalk Mariah. I wonder why that is. Nah, I really don't wonder, but let's pretend I do. L.A. Reid is clearly on Team Mariah or he wouldn't have signed her on to the record label. Already there is an album out and another bearing up for rerelease. He did the same thing when she was looking for a new home in 2002. So anything he says in that context should be viewed in good light because he has proven hat he believes in her artistry when others have written her off. It's not complicated in the least. JD has personal issues with L.A. Reid and it's not right for him to use Mariah to express any frustrations or unresolved feelings he might still harbour towards his former boss. Fingers crossed that it's all a big joke because I hate to think MC has this many disloyal people around her or that the anti-Mariah agenda is this effective. It pisses me off that I even have to mangle my own sense of logic and common sense to keep from believing the nonsense Mariah has to endure on the daily. I can't imagine what it must be like to be the target of all this baseless hate and pure evil intentions that someone of her status attracts simply by existing. Anybody who says Mariah is weak, lazy, ditzy etc. is stupid. This woman has the strength of 10 Samsons, the patience of a pearl, the heart of an angel and the mind of a believer.

Mariah / Beyonce / Tiina (54,004)
by trox from united states

Yeah, I do agree. It seems crazy to me how overrated Beyonce is. 20 Grammys. Really? It seems so unfair. And I do agree her music will sound really dated years from now, and her tone as a vocalist isn't the most pleasant one. You can't relax listening to her, it's kinda strange. Her voice and songs aren't soothing. But I have to say she became a better vocalist in the last few years, her last album is a little bit stronger in that sense. I just don't get it why she became so big in the industry. The worst part for me is her lyrics. She has a extremely poor speech, poor diction, poor lyrics and poor grammar. But this is kinda the elephant in the room, nobody talks about it. The girl needs to return to school and learn how to write and talk better. The only thing Beyonce does better than Mariah is stage performance. She is a really good stage performer. She can carry a audience pretty well. I'll give her that. Mariah is not that good in terms of live performances.
