American Idol backlash and Jermaine (53,855) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I think MC made a wrong move by calling out AI. I get that they played her and she was in many ways used as a pawn to get publicity but it has been 3 years now, I think when asked about Idol, she could have just taken the politically correct route and said something like maybe "It was a new experience for me, but maybe it's not something meant for me." I know a lot of people here will now say that Nigel blamed her for its demise, well no one took Nigel's words seriously and all the articles where he made those comments were filled with remarks from readers like "AI was dead long before the MC-NM drama" and all. No one apart from Nigel thought MC was responsible. But now with MC making such a direct remark on such a big show is causing her a lot of backlash. People are literally reading her to filth. I feel like after all the image cleansing MC was going through, this comment by her caused a lot of damage to her image overhaul. She should have been the bigger person and just politely dismissed the question. JD's comments are also something I agree with. Yes saying this on TV was not right maybe, but I have a feeling he said these to her a lot personally but she never really listened. I agree that if MC wants to remain in the business she needs to take it seriously. Things were going so good for her, I just feel that starting from the AI comments everything took a huge step back. It's one thing to criticize your own work, but in a business where image is everything, one has to be careful about what they say. Also about the whole "MC has earned her respect long time back, she doesn't need to get it anymore" attitude is very wrong. Earning respect and maintaining it is what matters. People nowadays have almost no respect for her. A lot of it has to do with her behavior on big shows - talk shows, radio shows and all. She can unleash her humor in places where it's between her and her fans but in shows seen or heard by the majority of the population it is crucial to maintain a certain image. Anyways, I felt pretty bad by what is going on for the past few days. I thought this era would be more organized. It started of real well then started fluctuating. Now it's a semi mess with still no video out. No word on remixes. How can they let a song die out which is sitting in the same list as her biggest hits?

IDWC (53,854) by B from USA
I think I Don't Want To Cry has taken on new meaning for Mariah. It's the best video from the debut era. I haven't seen the director's cut of the video, have any of you? Is it on YouTube?

Re: Bino (53,853) by Malcolm from Asia
Yes, she earned that respect a long time ago but this generation, they doesn't respect Mariah as she must be. Let's face the reality that MC is not earning that respect from them; I always checked whenever she mentions on websites etc. the comments are mostly bad and harsh about her and I will not elaborate why did that happened because we all know what it is. As for her career's condition now and how the public/non-lambs sees her, she and her team must plan every step and every move that they will make, so that Mariah Carey will be pleasant again to the public eye and eventually see her big contributions to the music industry and give the respect that she deserves.

JD calls Mariah out on her BS (53,852) by Lee TS from USA
Ok, maybe a little bit exaggerated but what does he mean by this? Watch this. I mean, I get it she can't rest on her laurels and legendary status. Don't lose your drive Mimi.

MC's rants (53,850) by Ardis Logic from Earth
Ok I finally found the video rants. I love how she is doing this, it's a great way to reconnect with the fans again. I think it's hilarious how she is annoyed by things in those early videos. Like someone mentioned when you look at dorky pics of you when you were a pre teen with braces and glasses on and your just like "yuck" and your parents are like "but you were so cute". No but seriously. When "Someday" came out I was like 12 years old and I thought she was so "cool" in that video. I could relate to the kids in the video and it really was a great idea as a marketing plan but MC just sees it as a bad memory. That's funny.

Re: M (53,849) by Bino from
No, it's not supposed to be serious. It is what it is: a short, impromptu, candid, casual, making-fun-of-myself, here's-some-trivia-to-my-lambily clips. She doesn't need to get some respect; she has earned it a long time ago. And she will be bigger in time, like the Beatles and Elvis. These refreshing clips are for the Facebook generation with short-attention span. So, no, having sit-down interviews talking about how legendary and classic her songs are is going off on a tangent.

Where in the world (53,847) by Lee TS from USA
From a little bit of instagram stalking it seems like Mariah may be in Austria at the moment. I wonder what she's doing there, that citizen of the world. Ardis, besides this site you can always check Mariah's social media to stay up to date. Her rants can be found on her Twitter/YouTube pages.

Memories and rants clips (53,845) by Malcolm from Asia
I think it's normal that Mariah is saying something "not nice" or criticizing her music videos because that is the way she remembers it. But on the other side, I also understand why the others are being negative about it because it has a right way to say it or do it. For me, it must have been pleasant and respectable if she is sitting like she is doing interviews (darker room, the light is on her, presentable dress and she is looking at the interviewer not on the camera) because that should legends and icons do and to earn her respect from non-lambs. She must not concentrate on the small stuff only, she must have say things that will left an impact to the people. Her recent interviews are great but why they let that clips to happen, they must have planned it. Mariah isn't young anymore to present herself like that in public, it must be having substance yet entertaining (ex: Madonna, Cher, Beyonce). Sorry MC.

Debut era videos (53,844) by Tiina from Finland
I think it's funny the way she discusses the videos. It's not the first time she's ranting about them though. And let's be honest, she isn't looking her prettiest in the VOL video. I would have been just as annoyed with that video. Her makeup is understated, her hair falls flat and looks crunchy and she's wearing a weird spandex leotard. Mariah is gorgeous of course but I don't think anyone can pull off that look lol. And what is that video about anyway? I never got it. But the song is so good, it was the perfect first single. The LTT video is pretty boring too but I love all her close-ups. I never noticed the glue on her lashes. I love the video for Someday. I love her look (that's hot right now, the 90's are back big time with the earthy tones, I actually saw a Mariah makeup tutorial on YT on her 90's look), I like that she's moving and dancing, plus there's a vague story. And the song is my jam. What's not to love? I wish Mariah would have explained why she hates it so much. I already knew she hated it but the question remains why. By the way, did she date that guy who played her love interest in the video? I like her look in the IDWC video but she probably hates that one too. She once said that "they" (i.e. Tommy and his minions) didn't like the short dress and gave her crap about it.

Fantasy remix (53,843) by Philipp from Switzerland
Hey guys. Did you also notice that the Fantasy remix on "#1's" is a different one than on "#1's to Infinity"? The one on Infinity uses a chorus from non-remix-Fantasy. Funny I have never heard that version before. I love it though.

Let's brace ourselves in advance for everyone who will be having a meltdown again at the time when Mariah will be uploading her rants about the "I don't wanna cry" video. Just saying. *shrugs*

Memories and rants (53,841) by Lee TS from USA
Ummm, I don't think she's really dissing her own videos. Like a lot of people said it's very much "I don't like how I looked in that picture" kind of deal. She's giving these funny little moments that happened and laughing about it. To me, it's a lot like during First Vision when she told the story about how LTT took a lot of time to film because it kept raining. I don't think she's gonna like any videos until Honey comes along when she finally broke free but she might "complain" about the heels hurting. You already know it's gonna be the shorts were played out, only allowed to wear curls, couldn't have fun and living vicariously through her videos on TV, you know the usual.

Why so serious? (53,840) by Bino from
And dramatic all the time? Mariah is clearly having a good time "ranting" (i.e., complaining in a way that's unreasonable) about her videos. Cut her some slack. It's her videos, as LC mentioned, her "memories", so she can say whatever she wants about them. I for one am enjoying it, getting to know about these petty things that bothered her. I find it funny, maybe because I get her sense of humour. She seems to be having fun with all these little brilliant promotions she's doing, so relax and suck it up as there will be 15 more rantings to go. Don't let nobody's drama bother you. Cheers.

Global anthems, Heavenly-themed (53,839) by DK from USA
Mariah has a rare ability to affect so many people around the world with her voice. I'm surprised she doesnt sing more "There's Got To Be A Way"-ish songs/anthems. When "Heavenly" was being recorded, she posted a pic of the choir/background singers. It gave me an MJ vibe. The song, although a remake, had great potential if Mariah wasn't hitting super human notes, hence automatically removing any sing-along vibe from the song. If she was to record a video.

The rants (53,838) by Todd from Melbourne, Australia
I personally love it. It's no different to when I look at photos of myself 10 years ago. Regardless of the situation, regardless of how great/fun it was, my go-to is to criticise myself. Mariah has always had self deprecating humour, and what would we rather, her saying "Oh yes. I love myself sick in this video. I am so beautiful. I love myself so much" etc. Can you imagine the field day that the already-biased media would have with that? Just let it be. She's not saving lives, she's talking about music videos.

Videos (53,837) by Darryle from USA
We all know Mariah dislikes the majority of the things about her debut. She's been expressing her disdain about it since about 1999. Quit acting like this is some sort of revelation. If she pretended she loved everything about the videos you guys would point out all the things you disliked and call her fake. If she says she doesn't like something then she's ungrateful. She can't win no matter what she does.

Guilty By Association (53,836) by 123 from USA
For those interested, here is a link to Damizza's memoir. It is very good and I couldn't stop reading it when came out, especially Mariah's chapter. Mariah's team initially sent a cease and desist, so I'm sure they edited certain subjects and even though he was vague with certain things regarding Mariah in order to get clearance what became the final version (their friendship growing into something more), he revealed a lot about her that I didn't know. You can read it here.

MimiLamb / Musti / Dre and Mariah collab (53,834) by 123 from USA
In Dr Dre's chapter, Damizza talks about getting Dre to produce for some major artists. He shut down the notion of producing for Michael, but was cool with possibly working with Mariah. Damizza explains that he usually attends the very first meeting between two parties he is trying to get to collaborate so that there are no misunderstandings with people's personalities and individual recording processes. Damizza was overly confident that they would get along and missed the first meeting. It went south. Dre wanted Mariah to come to his studio and record some vocals. Mariah wanted him to send a beat for her to work on with her engineer in Capri. Both parties were offended as neither worked the way the other did. Dre was offended that Mariah wouldn't come to his studio to record (as lambs we know she never records her vocals with anyone in the studio except her engineer). Damizza tried to fix it by telling Mariah to just go and do a scratch vocal to start the building of a relationship but the damage was done. Dre gave the beat to Mary J Blige and the huge hit that was Family Affair came to light. It would have been for her Rainbow album. This story is in Dre's chapter, not Mariah's if I'm correct.

Yes yes yes (53,830) by Andrew from UK
Yes yes yes. Mariah? You're there? Slag off American Idol, say what happened. Talk to us rather than talk about lighting "might as well" bullshit. If you're gonna be the all important diva we want you to act it. You're opinion matters when you talk sense and are insightful and interesting. Puts comments by the young ones into perspective. Go with this. As for people abandoning the board, it's not because there's not much to be negative about. It's because criticism/debate seems to have been shut down. Not least by the moderator himself. Mariah Daily it isn't. However if I suggest that there is rampant lip-syncing in Vegas I imagine I'll be jumped upon. I do think goin off radar and leaving fans to dangle about what's coming up (and waiting upon Christmas) is not fair. Tell us what is coming up and what music to expect. Time to be open and honest. It may be a good thing.
