Oh, I didn't realise it was you who said it lol. I completely agree with what you said and what you're saying. I just find it over the top when people (not you) have to become so defensive when you know the truth and you're just stating it, that's all. It's not a big deal anyway. Peace.

Live vs lipped (39,535)
by Joe from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
Nobody shoot me, but the one thing Joyce said about people (even lambs) always debating wether her this or that is completely lipped or completely live baffles me aswell. As a lamb once you've seen literally every performance you should find it easy to tell. She rarely does lip sync a whole performance, BET Awards not included. It's usually a mix of both live and lipped, like her live/dubbed/lipped showing at American Idol. I hate to sound like I'm bashing her or bringing up the voice debate again, because I'm not. I'm just being realistic, but I can remember someone on here before metioned that a certain Grammy's performance wasn't fully live and everybody jumped to say "How could you? What are you talking about? You're not a real lamb.".Obviously that's an exaggeration, but it's abit annoying when people get so defensive and all you're doing is being realistic. If you want to believe in make believe, that is up to you. I apologise if you're offended by what is called reality.

Great post Stacey (39,534)

I so agree with everything you said. Especially about Merry Christmas and album range. "Vocal peak" is all a judgment call anyway, so that's subjective and going to change based on what each person's thoughts and feelings are on the subject. Know what I mean? The one thing I know about MC is to never, ever count her out. Many people felt she had accomplished all she was going to musically, and then We Belong Together and TEOM exploded onto the scene. Her last few efforts may not have had the success people attribute to "Mariah Carey" but realistically with all the change in the industry and other factors involved with Mariah's life and choices she's made ect, the work wasn't "the worst ever". Sometimes I think perspective can get lost easily. Especially, when comparing Mariah to her own body of work. She sets the bar really high and as such the lambs have equally high expectations. The price you pay fpr earning the title best selling female vocalist. Lol. You're not always going to hit the home runs. I have a good feeling about the new album though. I can't explain it.

Vocal peak (39,533)
by Jamie from UK

Doesn't Mariah has several vocal peaks? She often has that standout song(s) on each album which just blows you away with her vocals, i.e. "All in your mind", "You're so cold" (intro), "Without you", "O holy night", "When I saw you", "Butterfly", "Can't take that away", "Lead the way", "Mine again"...

Changed persona after Luis Miguel (39,532)
by Joyce from USA
| |
|
|
Her voice has changed and has she. Remember she had vocal surgery to remove nodules on her voice. Since then, it’s been a strain to do the things one common. Also, at this point in her career the fire is not as intense as she has made it. She has literally concord the world. That means less vocal training and maintaining. That is why she does the pre-recorded and live signing combo when singing “live”. I am really surprised only a few have figured that one out rather than the back and forth debate of if it's real or pre-recorded. 1995 and 1996 where peak vocals for here. There were no breaks, cracks nor scratchy tones that first appeared in Butterfly, though maneuverability was the same. Glitter was the last album where there was little or no strain in her songs and vocal acrobatics were still plenty. It’s all downhill after Louise Miguel. After that her persona changed and so did her voice.

Vocal peak / vocal ability debate (39,531)
by DivergentIntel from United States of America
| |
|

This horse has been beaten to death many times, yet of course in the lamb universe it still seems to get talked about lol. Anyways, I must say that there is a big difference between your voice changing and losing your voice. Many people claim Mariah lost her voice. She certainly hasn't lost it at all. Her vocal tonality/tone is the same but it's the texture that has changed. I've always been curious as to how Mariah changed her vocal technique or style slightly. It seems as if in every era Mariah changes her sound slightly but I've been curious as to why. I honestly believe that Mariah changes her voice on purpose more so to be versatile. I also think that she doesn't like to sing in full voice because she has become a big star and doesn't have to prove it and her previous best works help speak and sell for her and her name. As for Mariah's vocal peak, it's so hard to choose. I'd say that 1990 to 2005 were her absolute vocal peak period. However I'd say Daydream was her vocal peak and where she reay branched out as an artist and with integrity and legacy.

Whitney song cover (39,529)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |
|
|
I would love to hear her cover Ms. Whitney Houston's song. I hope this goes out to her, if you guys remember we were talking about Mariah and Miguel should work together and months later, it did happen. Her voice would sound really fantastic if she covers "You Give Good Love" or "Run To You" or "Where Do Broken Hearts Go". That would be a very nice tribute to one of the world's greatest artist. Or Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" would be great too.

Vocal peak (39,528)
by Stacey from USA

Emotions is a great album, one to be appreciated and admired for what Mariah accomplished vocally on that album. Even MC herself has said Civiles and Cole pushed her voice to the stratosphere on Emotions and MIH. But someone who says that was her vocal peak has not heard Merry Christmas, Daydream, or TEOM. Yeah, go listen to Circles and that octave run she has toward the end of the song around minute 2:42. Brilliant. Sure, things have changed, she's had to adjust keys of songs and such. I mean, if you want to clearly say what her vocal peak was, I'd argue Butterfly to Rainbow. But even then that's not a fair statement because she has had so many amazing songs since then that show she still has it. Grammys 2006 anyone?

The new videos / Emotions (39,527)
by Licia from USA

I love these little moments on video she has. I died when she said she would knock someone the f*ck out. It was a funny moment not to be taken seriously. Now watch people ruin it by making a big deal out of her saying the eff word. 11-11 is not too far away. Anyway I love the Emotions album, but I don't agree that she was at her vocal peak on this album.

People who say Emotions was Mariah's vocal peak clearly haven't listened hard enough to Merry Christmas. Now the vocals on that album are perfect and, in my opinion, Mariah has yet to better those vocals.

Mariah covering Whitney? (39,524)
by Tory from Australia
| |
|
|
There is this rumor floating around that Mariah is planning to remake Whitney Houston's "You Give Good Love" for her upcoming album. Considering I've only heard it on YouTube and nowhere else, I'm not even going to entertain that thought lol. That's actually one of my favourite Whitney songs, I'd say top 5. You know Mariah likes her covers lol aside from EOM, E=MC2 and pre-MTV Unplugged, she always includes a cover on her albums. I'm not sure how the lambily feels about them, but I personally like most if not all of her remakes. I like that she could take a rock ballad or disco ballad etc and put her own style on it. I may be biased as a lamb in that regard lol, but imo I've never liked when artists cover a song and it sounds exactly the same as the original, from the vocals to the production lol. To me, you know a cover is great when you can listen to it on it's own and not get flashbacks of the original in your ear, or have a sudden urge to listen to the original. A great cover should stand on its own.

Vocal peak (39,523)

It's really interesting to hear people talk about the Emotions era as MCs vocal peak. I don't actually think that the album is underrated at all, for me the fast jams are too over produced and some of the ballads are just forgettable in terms of a Mariah ballad. When I listen to the Daydream tour, I am just in awe of her vocal ability then, I actually prefer those versions of her songs than the actual studios, Without You, Open Arms, and especially I Don't Wanna Cry which she makes sound like it was from the Daydream album, incredible but that's just my opinion!

Great post about the tabloids. I totally agree. It's a bunch of crap. Lol. I have a feeling TAOLG is a lovely powerful ballad and I'm curious to see if there is any significance to the release being 11.11. In other news, I was over at MariahCarey.com recently, and I see that the company responsible for running the website gas changed! The messageboard finally loos presentable without errors. (Two years later.) Lol. The official website has been horribly managed, and I hope this means good things are coming for fans around the world, and for Mariah's professional representation as a whole.

It's great to see all the Emotions love. I completely agree that this is her most underrated album, and what's more upsetting is that it features absolutely fantastic vocals. Every song is a winner, and she has such class, maturity and dignity. I love the soulful numbers, and the quiet storm way the album ends. Til The End Of Time and The Wind make for such a dramatic and atmospheric closing. I also loved the cover shot, those sepia hues and her throwing her hair back. Just stunning.

Emotions / new single (39,520)
by Paul from USA
| |
|
|
Amen! Emotions, without a doubt, is her most underrated and most timeless album. Overshadowed by her debut album and the best-selling Music Box. I just don't get the lackluster reviews for it. They need to get their ears cleaned. The singles were great and the non-singles, too (especially "If It's Over"). She was at her peak vocally. I can't wait for her new single, now. Hopefully, she isn't just overhyping it. I hope it's something her older fans have been waiting a very long time for. "Beautiful" was good and all, but too much Miguel and the very tacky music video tainted it for me.

Tids and bits (39,519)

From what I've heard TAOLG is supposed to be a ballad. No, MC's not cheating, I'm feeling extra presumptuous when tabloids start talking based off of nothing more than, "Look, she's not wearing her wedding ring, they must be getting a divorce." It's not like she broke her arm or anything where inflammation or pain killers could cause swelling. I love how the National Inquirer's headline is them divorcing on the same day Mariah tweets herself half unwrapped for Nick's birthday. Call me paranoid, but all these "guys" MC is supposed to be cheating with are guys she's worked with while single. She didn't hookup with them then, so we're to believe she waited until she was married with kids and then decided to throw everything away? Not even the tabloids foresaw MC and Nick dating, let alone marrying. So, really how good are their "inside sources"? They've been predicting their demise ever since. The tabloids are ticked. But, it's their own fault for referring to the voices inside their heads as "sources". Anyone else stuck on the part, "not just tabloid rumors, legitimate sources too, tabloids and otherwise"? I wonder if the other legitimate sources are whatchamacallit or thingumabob.

Rock and a hard place (39,518)

It wad nice to see Walter A. speak so highly of MC even after all these years. You can only imagine the tough spot he was in during Tommy and Mariah's breakup. He loves working with MC, but is employed by Sony. Tough spot. I do hope they work together again and let the past stay where it belongs. On a side note, I think My All sounds perfect. I think strings would have taken away from the raw emotion of the song.

Rodney Jerkins produced So Lonely, the One And Only part 2 remix off the Mimi platinum edition. When she blew up hard core in 2005 that was one of almost 10 songs off that album they played on the radio here in Chicago. Not sure if she and Rodney did anything else together that didn't end up on her albums.

Hope Street (39,516)
by lil star from untied states
| |
|
|
What ever happened to the rumoured single "Hope Street"? Does anyone know if it's planed to make the album? When they described it, I was really interested to hear it. "This isn't cheesy rent-a-rapper Mariah who squeals every note possible. It is awesome, experimental, and sounds like a Joni Mitchell record on steroids. Mariah uses the lower register of her voice to an amazing effect," and "Apparently, Mariah is tired of trying to appeal to teenagers and has made an album that is heartfelt, personal and very artistic." It sounds like a song hardcore fans have been waiting for. But that was so long ago and I'm sure the album has made many changes since then. I'm just hopping we get to hear this song and a lot of the songs recorded during this time period.

Emotions / Walter A / Letting Go (39,514)
by RadChad from United States

I must be in the minority, because Emotions was actually my favorite album for the longest time (during the Daydream era up until after Rainbow). There's not one bad song on that album, truly a masterpiece. I know I'm late, but it was good hearing the real story (from the horses mouth) of how MC and Walter's working relationship ended. I appreciate how highly he spoke of MC and how shut ol dude down when he was kinda trying it with MC. Had him explaining himself and everything, I bet if Walter had joined in and didn't nicely get him together he would've taken his down talk a little further. Walter shut that down quick, he still has our girl's back. If they haven't secretly already worked together on this album (which I believe they did) then io definitely think they will, it's not too late. I hate wanting a huge period of time to move by quickly, because I believe in enjoying everyday like it's your last. However I always find myself doing this with Mariah's new music. I just hope it really exceeds all our expectations and truly blow us away.
