Interesting (37,385) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I'm not trying to start a massive debate or fuel any fires or anything, I just think it is interesting to see the comments on judging styles. Lately it seems the consensus seems to be the because Mariah keeps her commentary positive for the most part, she's not doing her job, or measuring up as a judge. I can only speak for myself, but I think she's had a nice blend of coming from a technical standpoint as a vocal mentor, while always making an effort to find something constructive to say in relation to performance, stage presence and song choice ect. I knew going into this that Mariah would view her role as a that of a mentor, because that is her personality with this type of situation. As this group of rookie singers move forward in this business, they will get plenty of exposure to those who will dissect every move with a fine tooth comb. As much as there is a place for that and all the potential growth that it offers people on their journey in the business, I think there's also room for the voice of mentors who emphasis the positive too. I don't think it minimizes or damages the credibility of what Mariah has to say. She's able to give feedback, she just doesn't phrase it as bluntly as "That sucked." Still, it's pretty clear when something needs fine tuning from her respnses. Just my 0.2 for what its worth.

Judge the judges (37,384) by Andrew from UK
Having just read this article, I pretty much agree with its entirety. I can see why Mariah doesn't want to be too negative, however I believe the producers will want more for their money. Using of the cuff "Mariah-isms", such as "I can't even know what to say" really doesn't cut-it when she's being paid $18 million. I'm sure Niki is being paid much less, yet she appears to gives greater responses. I have a bad feeling about the way this is all going to go. In a similar way to her Virgin records deal, she may come out of this financially well, it just may not have been the best career move I feel. Ahh well, roll on May and the new album.

Promote (37,383) by Ray from Malaysia
Please promote the song already. If Mariah doesn't care about her chart success anymore, then her team should. That's why you have a team. And Randy, could you at least try to manage your client's career, aside from judging on AI?

AI and future album (37,382) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I have to admit that I also agree with the article about Mariah and Nicki's judging style, in fact I prefere Nicki to Mariah. I think the biggest problem about Mariah's style is that she hasn't got the nerve to be negative. The same can be said about Keith, I haven't heard a single negative comment form him yet. As for Almost Home, it doesn't surprise me that it did so bad on the charts, and I'm also concerned about that people just don't care about her music anymore. No one expected the success of TEOM, so I'm filled with hope for her next album, maybe she can have a second comeback. But I think she has to stay away from the slow tempo whispering songs that Memoirs was all about.

Who cares? (37,381) by RadChad from United States
Though I've enjoyed Mariah on Idol (and think she gives great feedback), I could care less about her being considered the best tv judge ever. All I really care about is her taking care of that amazing voice, making great music, and her happiness (of course). People will never give this woman the credit she truly deserves anyway. She has always been the underdog. So I've just learned to be satisfied with knowing that she gives it her all and keeps going despite the adversity she faces. As far as the current state of her music career, much can be speculated about why it's not as stellar as it once was. However, I still feel the best from is yet to come and she will have another huge comeback.

Almost Home (37,380) by Matthew from USA
Comparing JLo's success on AI to Mariah's is not exactly fair. JLo had a dance song featuring Pitbull, which she performed on the show. Even without AI, that type of music gets a lot of play on radio. Mariah on the other hand has Almost Home, which a snippet was played on Idol and she did not perform it. The song is also somewhat generic (anyone could sing it) and not typical Mariah until the vocals at the end. It's also not really what radio is playing right now. So to compare JLo's success with her dance songs to Mariah's success with Almost Home is a bit uneven. We all just need to calm down and wait for her new album to drop. Most likely she will perform the lead single from her album and then we will see the response and that will be a better gauge of Mariah's status. Mariah's lead singles tend to be very radio friendly, so I'm not worried.

Almost Home and AI (37,379) by Anonymous from
I love the song and the video. As for AI, I knew the moment Nikki Minja joined the panel this would happen. I now dislike Nikki, because of her cattiness.

Judging the judges (37,378) by Lee from UK
This may be a little controversial but I agree, in a big way, with this article about Nicki and Mariah's judging styles. I think they are exactly on point and have hit the nail on the head. The only thing I disagree with is their view on Keith. Keith is actually a pretty good judge, he clearly knows what he is talking about, especially when it comes to technical musical issues. Maybe that's why Mariah doesn't give the technical critiques I thought she would, because Keith gets there first. Keith gives the good with the bad and isn't backwards in coming forward about it either, unlike Mariah who will try desperately not to say anything too negative.

Almost Home (37,377) by jaker20 from US
I guess my previous post was too strong so the moderator didn't post it. So I will tone it down a little just to get the message across, and I think this should be posted, so we can have a reality check right now, and as fans I think that is important. When you have a great song like Almost Home, featured on a massively successful movie, and in time when MC is visible in public in AI, and yet the song still didn't make any impact whatsoever, I think we as fans should all be worried that something is definitely very wrong. And I think MC should be worried as well. JLo managed to have a massive hit song by merely being on the show, yet MC was not able to convert her visibility into something similarly positive for her career. I do think her public image isn't very good right now. The public is simply not into her and her style, which seem old fashioned. MC has not been able to update her public persona. She is that woman with the big breasts on TV, not the great singer who makes great songs. You would be surprised how short kids' memories of the past is.

VEVO (37,376) by Ryan from the Philippines
So love the new VEVO and Mariah's new video thumbnails for Touch My Body, Always Be My Baby, My All and Triumphant (Get 'Em). It makes you wanna watch the video. It will be cool if they also change Almost Home's thumbnail.

Judging the judges on competition TV (37,375) by Dav from Ireland
Why is MCA re-publishing an article like "Judging the judges on competition TV"? I get that MCA wants to give us Mariah, warts and all. But I don't feel that it was a professional article. I feel that it was clearly written by someone who has personal issue with Mariah. The writer didn't even spell her name correctly in places. I know that some fans have felt let down by Mariah in the past, I saw that MCA were very let down by Triumphant. I put the following question to MCA, have you forgiven her for Triumphant? On a positive note, I love Almost Home. I love hearing the belting again, and Mariah returning to Pop. I hope it becomes a hit, as a record I think it deserves to be a hit.

More (37,374) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Things look to be improving in terms of the quality of the music and the end product, and frankly I care about that more than her next number 1. There's a lot of number 1 songs out there now, that are not what I consider to be good music. Lol. Rhianna may be the big thing right now, but her style does't do it for me. It says a lot about where the music industry sits currently. Or maybe I am just picky as I age. Lol. I think being a mentor on Idol and being a mom is naturally influencing the kind of music on the new album, and I am excited about that. I can feel how much she respects the contestants as they work, and I am sure that will affect her music. As for the cleavage, there's been a few dresses on AI I haven't enjoyed - that teal one during the auditions was awful. The one when she was stuck in traffic. The girls were more overtly exposed then they have been lately. I think she's been looking pretty. Though admittedly I don't focus on her chest much lol.

Lambs/Almost Home/AI etc (37,373) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Sometimes as fans I think we (and I'm using the general royal we here lol) can get a little caught up in Mariah's commercial success. AH may not reach #1, but that doesn't make it a flop. I love the lyrics and the concept behind it, and I do feel it is strange the song isn't featured on the soundtrack. But, I imagine that would be a Disney decision. Not sure why they wouldn't want to capitalize on the song, it is strange, but it's not the same as when you promote a full album IMHO. I think the video is classy. A vast improvement over the thrown together efforts of IWTKWLI and AC etc.

Mariah's legacy (37,372) by Matthew from USA
Joachim, is Barbra Streisand any less of a legend because she is not selling like Rihanna? Barbra did one show. One show in New York, and people went crazy. Tickets sold out in 4 seconds. Everyone who was anyone in NY turned out to listen. I don't know how much she made, or how pricey those tickets were, but I'm pretty sure Rihanna would have to do 5 shows to make what Babs made in that one night. That's how a true diva works it, and that's what I hope for Mariah. She needs to take care of that voice, make a jazz album, do more songs that she won't be embarassed to perform in 10 years. I really don't think MC should be focusing on a grand world tour where she has to sing her difficult songs over and over for half a year. While that might boost her sales, it would probably take a toll on her voice. Let Rihanna and Madonna do a 100 city world tour. It costs them nothing to lip-synch the same 2 notes over and over. The fact is that those artists have to do that if they want to stay relevant. If Madonna wants to stay relevant, she needs to squeeze into a leotard and get out on tour one more time. If Mariah wants to stay relevant, she just has to sing. We Belong Together. Worldwide baby. It might not happen very often, but when the music and her voice come together just right, the world pays attention. And she becomes relevant again just like that. Then people start saying the "comeback" word, but the true lambs already know. Don't call it a comeback. Lol.

Mariah's success (37,371) by darnell from United States
It seems like people here are starting to doubt Mariah's commercial viability lately. Triumphant flopped and Almost Home hasn't even graced the top 20, so now people are losing there heads. Saying things like "I think Mariah's past her fame" and "this next album might flop". When did the lambs become so defeated? An artist as big as Mariah is always one hit away from a huge resurgence. All Mariah needs is one song to catch on and she's back where she belongs. I thought everyone learned the last time to never count Mariah out.

Mariah's success (37,370) by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA
I don't think it's fair to compare Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna's tour success to Mariah's. First off, Madonna has always been an entertainer. Her concerts are the best, hands down. But at the same time she brings in 300 million, but look at her album sales lol. Rihanna is 25 years old. When Mariah was her age (Daydream era), Mariah was on the top of the world. Not everyone stays on the top for long. Rihanna's time is now, but come back in 10 years or 15 years and lets see where she is. Beyonce is a triple threat. She's a singer, dancer and songwriter, she is an alround entertainer. This generations Tina Turner. Mariah was never a performer and far as I'm concerned, if you've seen one Mariah concert, you seen them all. Same setlist (with 3-4 new songs), same routines. She's never really had big concerts and she never did get a load of people to see her. Now from 90-99 people wanted to see her, to hear her voice, she barely toured and when she did, it wasn't long. Mariah's career is fine, all she needs is the right singles and promo and she'll be back at #1. I hope she uses Idol while the fire is good, like JLo did.

Mariah's world dominance (37,369) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Mariah was on top of the world for almost a decade, but it's more than a decade since she could fill stadiums. Beyonce had been on top for a decade now, and it doesn't seem like she will go away very soon. Rihanna's been on top since 2006 and is more popular than ever. Madonna's latest tour brought in almost 300 million. I have this terrible feeling that Mariah's past her fame, and if this next album flops, who knows what will happen to her career. Well, hopefully it's just a couple of months of wait to see if she can rule the charts again. I will always love her music though, no matter the success, but I must say I haven't enjoyed much of her work since TEOM. I did love IBLULT though. And by the way, I can't even find Mariah's latest video on YouTube. Anyome else have the same problems?

Mariah's success in Europe (37,368) by TJ from Norway
What I was trying to say was that Mariah was on top all over the world in 1993-96. Well, I don't know about the US, but I guess it's the same there. Rihanna and Beyonce might do better on tour. About her success in Europe: Please tell me if I'm wrong about this, but didn't Mariah get an award in 1994 for selling over 25 million albums in Europe? Anyone who remember this?

Cleavage (37,365) by Ryan from the Philippines
A friend who knows that I am a Mariah fan texted me while watching AI that my Mariah's breasts are too large. Lol. And one day, while I was watching AI with my mom, the first thing she noticed was her breasts. Sometimes I do feel like Mariah doesn't need to show much, because she is sexier when she shows less. Just that body-hugging gown kills me. But as the saying goes, if you have have it flaunt it. I guess that's what Mimi is doing. Though, I'd still want her to go back to that TEOM era where she promised to be clothed well (except the fur, ofcourse. PETA won't like that).

Video/cleavage shots (37,364) by Will from England
I love it. Especially the last part for several reasons; the first being that when she sings "when you hear the sound of the trumpets louder than ever before", it almost looks like as if she's about to be bowled over by the wind machine (either that or 10000 trumpets played at exactly the same time); the second being that they timed some of the shots from the film to go with the beat (hitting the forehead, winking and sneezing into the ground) so I thought that was a nice touch; and then the final part: when they make it seem as if all the characters are belting out the final "home" at the same time (lead by the Wicked Witch). So I think the video is clever in its own way, by making it seem like as if it really is part of the music video, and just not random pretty scenes that they threw in. As for the cleavage, I think Mariah's been pretty conservative in her choices. Come to think of it, I think this is only time throughout AI where she has on purposely shown them or that they have been the centre piece. Other times they've been hidden away quite nicely. At least it's not the Golden Globes dress.

Mariah's declining success (37,363) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Maybe we lambs have to se our Mariah going through a significant decline in success, pretty much all over the world. It sees nothing she does, lateley, really has an impact. I am really disapointed how the fans seem to have abonded Mariah. Will, no matter how Almost Home will perform on the charts, I like it. But I have to agree with some of you, Mariah's dress on Idol is just redicoulus. But I can hear her say, "that's festive".

Soundtrack album (37,362) by Will from England
It's not that strange. Adele's "Skyfall" isn't included on the official soundtrack album and was just the single version and look how successful it was without it being on there. I've also taken a look at the soundtrack and it's just the instrumentals, which is exactly what I thought it would be. Would I be right in saying that the way a soundtrack album is handled is different to a regular studio album? Unless the movie is a musical, in which case it is not, then only the instrumentals would be on the album, but no vocally sung songs. The same went for Skyfall's soundtrack album. They're mainly made up of the background music. Therefore, the main soundtrack song would be released separately from the album, since no other songs are going to be released from the main album. Mariah has only done one main soundtrack song (As far as I'm aware. I'm excluding "Where Are You Christmas?" and "Glitter". "WAYC?" because she did not sing it and 'Glitter because in essence, it was a musical movi,e so it was inevitable that there would be vocals on the album.) in her career, so we've never had this before.

Almost Home/boobs boobs boobs (37,361) by Jamie from UK
The video is simple and divalicious, they pretty much gave everything away in the previews. But I hope more people will find out about the song; I'm wishing it the best on the charts. As for Mariah's boobies on Idol, they look magnificent lol. She's not hurting anyone by showing them off. I say if Nicki can do her crazy wigs, let Mariah work those boobs.

I tried to hold my mouth closed (37,360) by Nattalie from USA
All her clothes are driving me insane. At first I was like, whatever. Now it's like I feel as if I have to be forced to watch her breast everytime I watch her lately. Why can't I just watch what she does without seeing the breast? If I wanted to look at breast, I'll just go look at my own. I wish the camera would zoom in on her face, so we don't have to see everything.

200,000 views in 1 day (37,359) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
The video of Almost Home managed to collect 200,000 views in just one day. If this momentum is consistent, then the song has potential to climb the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
