Mariah is still MC (36,971)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I don't agree that she has changed beyond recognition. If you listen to MOAIA, there are tracks that are introspective like Languishing. Hate U reminds me of My All and I Wanna Know What Love Is is similar to Without You. There's a thread of introspect, wantoness, remake, love, hope and bitterness on each CD. What I am thoroughly angry about are the live performances since 1996. We can't tell if they're ever 100% live, because she's so slick now with the lipsyncing, unlike when she started that foolishness circa 1997 and she flapped her arms and spun around when she wasn't singing. I will grant you that she was good on the Rockefeller NBC thing, but it's a shame we now sit on pins and needles because we don't know what we're getting. For someone considered one of the premier vocalists of all time, it's sad that we're not getting spontaneous show off performances. Notice how now whenever an interviewer brings up how wonderful her voice is, she quickly tells them "I'm a songwriter". MC has yet to put out an album I don't love but MC live, wooph.

Old and new (36,969)
by Carol from Spain
| |
|

I said it before and say it again: people need to wish the past was now. Mariah changed and another time like Music Box won't come back. Mariah changed, went on a different path and embraced her sexier musical side. Honestly, if an artist does the same thing all over again, what's the point? I love how she evolved as an artist and embraced her criativity and we know more about her taste in music. Altough we can clearly see a difference in her music from album one to now, I don't think the music nowadays isn't recognizable as some fans say. I can still say that's a Mariah song, even before I know it's hers. I quite frankly love the emancipated and free Mimi. I think, before Butterfly, that wasn't Mariah being her.

Mariah's not around only for Christmas (36,968)
by Carol from Spain
| |
|
|
A guy told me on my facebook earlier that Mariah only appeared on Christmas, like Santa Claus. My first reaction to this was "That's because you're sleeping the rest of the year, darling." It may not be the best of answers, but really? Come on: she had several performances, was awarded twice for her career this year, been in London and Macau quite frankly. I asked him if he heard the news about her husband health issues early this year and he just said "Yes I have", so iIjust fought back by saying if it's bad people know about it, but if it's a good thing like concerts and awards then people don't remember, short memory. People need to pay more attention to her career, forget the bad times and enjoy all the things she offers us every year.

Nicki's and Mariah's AI divalicious moments (36,967)
by Carol from Spain
| |
|
|
It's crazy to me to see how Nicki is turning out to be a bigger diva than Mariah. And i don't mean it in a nice way. A few years back, people talked about Mariah's divalicious demands and bad behaviour and quite frankly, I never saw anything that made me think these rumours were correct. Unlike Nicki, who has weird behaviours all the time. I mean, arriving late two hours for some hidden reason and looking like she got out of bed. Mariah may be whatever, but I'm sure if she made everyone wait two hours, she would be amazing and classic because the girl has taste and definitly knows how to behave in public. Saying this, I believe even more that the fight between them was caused by Nicki because she thinks she's better then anyone else. Our girl knows how to behave properly.
Webmaster: Mariah is notorious for being late and she never gives an excuse for being late. Just check the numerous stories on my website. One time, I had to wait for almost six hours, because she was late for a meet and greet.

I feel like this is one of Mariah's songs that doesn't get a lot of attention. It's one of my all-time faves, I love it. I love the remixes and the variety of them. I love the video, the vivid colors and Mariah looks beautiful. Again surprised none of the remixes made it onto The Remixes.

I remember years ago posting my favorite two album tracks from each of her albums when we had touched on this. Since this has come up again, I thought I'd join in. I wonder if any of these have changed over time. Vanishing, Sent From Up Above, To Be Around You, The Wind, Music Box, I Am Free, Melt Away, Fourth Of July, Close My Eyes, Lead The Way, All My Life, Subtle Invitation, Circles, Your Girl, too many to list from E=MC2, Ribbon, More Than Just Friends. I also enjoy the Playlist collection they had put out, because it had some of these non singles on there.

Non single tracks, remixes (36,964)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I love the whole Music Box album. Probably because it's the first album of hers I bought, when I first discovered MC. I agree with others about her lesser known tracks. Those are some of the best, IMO. Till The End Of Time, Now That I Know, When I Saw You, All I Ever Wanted, After Tonight, Irresistable, etc. I remember in 1996 my sister got me ABMB USA CD single with the JD remix. I was like, "What is this?" It was this whole other world of songs to enjoy. Enwar, I think that's where Sony dropped the ball with the remix album. They could have included all the radio edits to these amazing remixes and include a ton more on the CD, some of which are so rare like Meme Butterfly, etc. The Def Classic Radio remix of ABMB is one of my favorites. I have it in mp3 if you want it. I had no clue about those remixes, because they were only released in the EU. That's what got me started collecting, was getting her CDs with these rare remixes on them. RadChad, you are so right. Folks have not truly "lived MC" until they've heard her remixes.

I always felt the same way as Jenny, most of my favorite songs have been songs on the album more so than the singles. Vanishing, To Be Around You, Music Box, Long Ago, Close My Eyes, Bliss, Lead The Way, The One, Circles, Thanx 4 Nothin, and Inseparable (just to name one from each album) are some of my favorite songs that remained on the albums. On another subject, I also concur that Mariah's remixes are beyond the best. I will go as far as to say you haven't really heard Mariah sing unless you've heard her "Dreamlover", "Fantasy", and "Honey" Def Club Remixes.

Music Box, Mariah at her best (36,962)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I must agree about Music Box. This song has always been a gem to me; it seems to be liked by many of my fellow fans too. The texture of Mariah's voice in this song was beautiful, those beautiful nuances, that's what I miss the most. It's not the belting, but the effortless delivery she used to have. Her midrange was perfect at this point. The problem with releasing singles is that they must be radio friendly, if they're not, the record company won't release them, but I'm happy because then they become that special bond between Mariah and her fans.

Yes, I used to love the Def Club Mix or whatever of Always Be My Baby. They used to play it on the radio on the daily and I remember being so annoyed that it wasn't released on cd in the U.S. I literally bought the 12" record and found someone with a record player and then recorded it on cassette. I feel like for whatever reason it wasn't as popular as the other dance mixes because it wasn't #1 and isn't on The Remixes but should be. Maybe it was too long lol.

Music box (36,960)
by Jenny from South Africa

I agree. I think this song is so beautiful and sweet. Beautiful vocals and lyrics and music. I love the music box sound tinkling in the background. It's a masterpiece. I love that Mariah seems to keep the best songs on each album as unreleased. Like a gift to the fans who actually bought the album. I've always felt some of the best songs on each album were never released as singles. Most artists release the best songs and the other songs on the album are average. Except my other girl Celine. She also has awesome songs that don't get released as singles.

I had been a fan for a few years and had no clue about Mariah's other world of songs - her remixes. Oh my, this song introduced me to a whole other side of MC. I love this remix. Have you heard the club remix to ABMB? It's from David Morales. I can send it to you via email if you like. That remix is awesome too.

I know right, I would be holding a framed poster trying to get her attention. As Enwar said, it's one of her sexiest video. I know for me it was. The colors, the scenes, her make up, her sexy look, everything was like damn. I've always loved that video. And Fantasy, I can't forget that one, because it's when I first fell in love with her with the scenes behind the stars like Stacey has on her avatar.

AIWFCIY on Hot 100 (36,954)
by Ryan from the Philippines

Glad to know that "Christmas" has returned to Hot 100 and has logged its highest 18 years since its release. This classic song deserves to be #1, really. It's one of Mariah's songs that will be remembered forever. Reaching the top spot within a short span of time like Christmas (which only lasts about 2 months) is hard, but I think the only way to get in there is for Mariah to promote and sing it everwhere like what she did with WBT.

Hey Zachary, I don't know if I would say I like it more specifically during Christmas time, but I do love that song any time of the year. It's crazy, in hindsight this many years later I could say it's my favorite song off Emancipation. To me, it's smooth and flows more than We Belong Together. I do remember it was popular this time of year, even remember when they like world premiered it on the radio. I think the video is hot too and adds to the same mood of the song, I really like it.

Your info was helpful. I've been collecting a number of years now, but have built my collection slowly as something I do just for me. I also really really love the Christmas promos and believe I will have them all n my collection one day. I've been on Ebay since 1998 and have seen JBOTD maybe 4 times and MYM twice. I've been outbid in the past, but I appreciate you sharing as some people do price their stuff quite high to begin with, and it is nice to have some frame of reference to compare, and without asking other collectors, that's kind of impossible. Lol.

MC and Christmas (36,946)
by Stacey from USA

Mariah owns Christmas. No doubt about that. I love Celine's Christmas album for different reasons. I'm surprised Celine held a higher spot than MC. Not anymore. It's all good. I love both CDs for different reasons and am grateful I have them both to listen to this "most wonderful time of the year". Awww, love Andy Williams too. If MC is Ms. Christmas, he's Mr. Christmas, lol.

I sold my collection in 2007. In my catalog, I had Jesus Born On This Day and Miss You Most. MYM was a hard one to get go of. Her Christmas promos were my favorites. I sold my MYM for $300 in 2007. I'd say with the economy the way it is, I wouldn't pay more than $300. My copy was in mint condition with no CD scratches, rips, bents or tears to the inlay. The same goes for JBOTD. I can't remember what I sold my copy for, but I think it was around $150-$200. I'd probably look to paying closer to $150. My copy was also in perfect condition with no CD scratches, marks, bents, etc. I sold my collection before the 2008 economic collapse. You might even score better deals now with the way things are. I hope my info I've giving you helps. Good luck.

Number 19 (36,944)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
After seeing it rise up the charts (Hot 100), I'm more inclined to believe that AIWFCIY could be her 19th #1. That song has everything going for it: radio play, sales and video play. There is no reason why it wouldn't go to number 1 at all. And the great thing about it? There's always next year to try again to get it to the top spot, now that the rules have changed.
