Triumphant/Randy Jackson/Nick Cannon (36,190) by clueey23 from USA
I still don't get it. Where is the promotion? I know the NFL kickoff! But really, it would have been nice to have all the artist on the track stop by 106 and Park and push it?! Or she could have did more radio promo. I love the song but the treatment for it is sooo off base. It's almost as if it didn't even get a fair chance. I hate when Nick directs MCs videos, they always come off cheesy, except for Love Story. And although the concept is nice, the flow of the video is OFF! They should have told more of a story as aposed to just posing and looking rich. Lol. I just want you all to know that Randy Jackson has been with MC since like 1989.

What is that? Rod has it down as a fave alter ego. I can't wait to find out, I'm laughing and I don't even know what it is.

Collection, first MC song (36,188) by Stacey from USA
I use to be a huge MC collector from 2002-2007. Some of my favorite items were Butterfly (Brazil Promo CD), Miss You Most, etc. I had so much fun collecting and met some neat people. It's how I came to find this website. The discography here was one of the most complete and organized collections I've seen. It was most helpful in determing legit releases vs. fakes. I miss those days, but the time did come to move on. I sold my collection to other MC fans who I hope are taking care of those items. The first MC song I heard was Hero. I remember I had the TV tuned to VH1 in the days where they actually played videos, lol. My back was to the TV as I was fixing the vacuum. Hero started playing and it was like a movie scene where I slowly turned around, thinking to myself, "who is that voice?" After that I was hooked. Even though her latest efforts may not appeal to me, I am forever grateful for her talents. She has an amazing ability to put all our feelings into a song we all can relate to. Daydream is my favorite album, hence the avatar, lol.

Gilbert, Will, Rod (36,187) by Stacey from USA
Gilbert, I enjoyed reading your bio, especially the last couple of sentences. Will, well said. I agree 100%. My apologies to you and everyone else here for dragging this on longer than it needed to be. However, defending respect to other views is something I'll always fight for. Rod, you give me too much credit on how much influence I have here, lol. Eric decides to post what he wants. He has decided not to post things I've written. It happens and I've learned from my mistakes. Eric did ask you to stop. Since only 4 pages of messages appear, I am sure it would be easy for Eric to email you the page in which he told you to cut it out. If I claimed something he did not do, he would be the first person to correct me. Others here would be quick to correct me too. Funny how none of that has happened. Your insults toward me or my career bounce right off me. I just "Shake It Off" because I know they are not true, and so does everyone else here. Peace.

Be nice or leave sign (36,186) by Will from England
Wasn't there a photo of Mariah holding that sign up? I think it needs to be re-instated, since it's clear some fans have forgotten this. I find it sad how some fans feel the need to think that their argument is the only right one, and no one else is right, or word what they're saying in such a way, that it's easily misinterpreted by those who are reading, then feel attacked when they're called out on it. MDJ tried to have the comments section for a while, but that ended because the fans just couldn't be nice to each other (that's my understanding of why it stopped, do correct me if I'm wrong). I'd hate to see that happen here (true, it's been here over a longer period of time, but still). Eric has created a wonderful, respected site where fans from everywhere can come and discuss all things Mariah, not to argue and insult each other. So please, don't drag this out and cause any more embarrassment than there already is (not directed at anyone in particular). Be nice, or leave.

My collection (36,185) by TJ from Norway
My first album was "Mariah Carey" and the next one was MTV Unplugged. It was with the release of Dreamlover that I startet collecting Mariah's singles and albums. For years I was sad about the fact that I didn't start to buy her singles in 1990. The Vision of Love cover picture was not like the one they released in the States. I remember I was looking at it in Denmark back in 1990, but I didn't buy it. I heard someone say that Triumphant is going to be released in Germany next month. Anyone who knows something about that? I'm in Germany in the end of next month and need a new single in my collection.

Re: The album or song (36,184) by TJ from Norway
My first Mariah moment was Vision of Love on TV in 1990. Been a fan since that moment. My best friend told me that NO ONE would remember Mariah Carey, and that she was a one hit wonder. Lol. She was so wrong. Some other friends told me that Mariah was a man, because she had this huge (7 octaves was the rumor at that time) range. Others told me that she could not sing live, or that she was 3 feet tall and so on. I have been a fan in a world of haters. in 1994 a neighbour was yelling at me because I played Without You on repeat the whole saturday morning (from 8am to 10 am) really loud on my stereo. hehe. She didn't live the house next door, I think it was at least 5 houses and gardens between us. Hehe. I was a "crazy fan" in the 90's. Fortunately I grew up.

Disappearing posts (36,177) by Rod from Philippines
Not sure if this post will ever appear here but I've posted a response to Stacey's "One more thing, Rod (36,161)" post and Eric, the webmaster, just doesn't want to post it. (Now, he's very much involved in this, thanks to Stacey's connivance with him.) I'm gonna drag this issue here and on your Facebook page, Eric, until you post that message. I strongly believe that fredom of speech must never be suppressed. [...]

Agree with everything you've said. I feel like Mariah and her team have lost their way. Maybe her priorities are just really different now. Like you, I feel she is using her name to do non-music related projects (movies, perfume, etc.). Precious totally overshadowed MOAIA - she hardly ever talked about that CD in interviews when it came out. I started fearing for the worst when she did the Bieber "duet" (which itself was just a copy and paste job that blatantly tried to appeal to the tweens). You're right, when we talk about the greatness of Mariah's career and music, I feel like it's all pre-2006 (like, TEOM was her last major mark on the music industry). I know I'm being very negative, but I don't care - given the caliber of her artistry, I just expect more from her. She has surprised us in the past, maybe she's got some master plan that really will work. But based on her track record since 2006 (MOAIA, MCIIY, and don't even get me started on the lost epic era that E=MC2 could/should have been), I'm not holding my breath. I just feel like she's become so lazy with the choices she makes, specifically regarding her music career. If she were more focused on music, she could still be able to balance family with that (just cut out all the BS projects like HSN, Idol, etc). I really hope she and her team prove me wrong, because music just ain't the same without her.

New dembabies pics (36,172) by RibbonB from USA
Those babies just keep getting cuter and cuter and so big now and walking. Mariah and Nick must be so proud. I can't wait to hear the first song about dem babies. What Mariah must be feeling now, taking care of her little gifts.

Harry (36,171) by RibbonB from USA
Nick made a great video and Randy is a professional and Mariah is a professional who knows more about her business that you do. Lot's of people love the video and song, but if they buy it great and if they dont oh well. It has nothing to do with who her video director is or her manager. People didn't buy HATE U in great numbers either unfortunately and it wasn't directed by Nick and Randy wasn't her manager then. Ultimately people buy the songs they like and it has nothing to do with directors and management, it's about tastes at the time.

Do you think MC still has music left in her career? (36,170) by HarryB from US
Madonna did what in my opinion is her best album last decade when she was older than MC, which was Confessions on a Dance Floor. Cher had her biggest song of her career when she was 10 years older than MC, which was Believe. I had hoped MC can match this trajectory. But considering she's doing American Idol, home shopping shows, and nail polish promo, she's definitely shifting her career prospects. She's just using her name now to do other things. As far as making music, it just seem like they're all in the past now. All this talk about her music has to be in past tense and reminiscing the past, nothing current. Nothing fresh. Nothing new.

Nick Cannon and Randy Jackson (36,169) by HarryB from US
I've said it many times, as long as Nick Cannon gets involved in MC's career, her career will continue to bomb. He should be a husband and father and stay away from MC's music. Look, if a music video that's supposed to promote a song actually makes a song plummet from the charts, what does that mean? The moment I learned weeks ago that Nick Cannon is directing the video, I smelled fail. Yet again, I was right. This has been the same trend he's done in the past, wherein the music video is followed by the song's quicker decline. It's almost as if MC is surrounded by people completely out-of-touch of today's music. But if this is the path MC's going to choose, then good luck with her. And I have not even mentioned Randy Jackson, the reality tv star. Randy does not understand music. Randy Jackson is one of the biggest joke in television history. He has not done anything remotely significant in pop music history, unless playing guitar for some corny 80s band whom I can't even remember the name of is significant to you. Sad to say, but the moment I read Randy's involved in MC's career, I felt fear. And when read weeks ago that Nick is directing her new video, I pretty much gave up. Good luck next time I guess. But it looks like MC is satisfied.

Re: The album or song (36,160) (36,168) by Rod from Philippines
Geezy, for me, it's the song Hero that really drew me in to her. Whenever I hear Hero, it takes me back to that time when I first really cared about the singer singing the song. At that time I already liked the song Love Takes Time, but I didn't pay much attention to her or her other songs like Vision Of Love, which was the song my nephew (who's older than me) had made me listen to prior. As for the album, the first two Mariah CDs that I proudly bought with my own money from my part time job/sideline were Daydream and Mariah Carey. That was in June of 1996 and was also the start of my collecting Mariah Carey CDs. My eldest sister had already bought a Music Box CD while she was working overseas so when she came back home January of 1994, I was surprised and delighted to see (her, of course, and) the Music Box CD she brought along with the other 5 CDs. Between 1994 and 1996, my highschool/college classmate/friend (who also became a Mariah fan the same time as I did) and I, both of us surviving on our respective measly allowances, would save up some money so he could start collecting Mariah (and a few other artists') cassette tapes one by one and I (who preferred to collect CDs which were 3 times more expensive than cassettes) could buy other artists' CDs that we both like. By 1999, I was able to complete all Mariah CD albums and bought my first ever Mariah Carey CD Single, Heartbreaker. That marked the official start of my Mariah Carey collection.

Angels Cry (36,167) by Ali from USA
I loved "Angels Cry", it was my favorite song off of "Memoirs" aside from "It's a Wrap". The song had a lot of conviction and I love the lyrics.. Favorite album is Daydream or Emancipation (I can't choose) and shoulda been a singe "Migrate" or officially "Underneath the Stars" (my favorite MC song). Stacey and Special K, I appreciate both of your contributions to this boar. Also, Aaliyah fans, her 11 year anniversary just passed. She was my favorite before MC, but it made me happy to know that MC was a fan. She choose Aaliyah's "At your best" on her iTunes playlist and stated what a talent Aaliyah was and what a beautiful voice she had. Pleasant day lambs.

Re: Geezy, the album or the song (36,165) by Joanna from Poland
Geezy, for me it was Breakdown (one of the greatest songs ever made, btw). When I heard it, I thought this woman is unique. But what really made me a devoted fan was the moment when I heard Against All Odds.

The album or song (36,160) by Geezy (36,164) by Gilbert from USA
Geezy, my brother was the fan first. We both have a birthday on 1/15 and he is 13 years older then me. Anyway, he would always play Mariah and this was the time Music Box was out and I was about 10 years old and I was like why do you play her so much. He played Music Box and always had the Thanksgiving Special she did at that time and I always feel in love with her look she had after she sang "Without you". So time went on and I was still a rugrat so I didn't have money nor did I care to buy things at that time, but when I saw "Fantasy" (original) I was like wow. I love her! That did it for me. I went back, bought all the albums. I always played the video, I remembered I would go to websites trying to find screen caps and put them in a folder and go to school showing her off. It was a hard time for me because I'm gay but at that time, I was really quiet and you know how us kids are, very mean, and are you gay? So it was a tough time. Now every where I turn all gays are out and it's like nothing. I'm like damn they have it easy. Lol okay sorry lambs, tmi right? Lol.

Now That I Know (36,162) by Stacey from USA
I put in an old CD mix, you know, before mp3 players, lol, and found Now That I Know. In a CD full of ballads, this song often gets overlooked, but is a great uptempo classic. I almost wish she would have released it as a final single or even a b-side (ala Breakdown and My All). If I'm not mistaken, NTIK was also done by Civiles and Cole? The song is so similar to Emotions and MIH. Give that song a listen. I had forgotten about it too.

One more thing, Rod (36,161) by Stacey from USA
Even the webmaster got involved and told you to cut it out, and you know he rarely gets involved, unless he's had enough. I don't recall him telling me to change my attitude in any of my posts. He knows as do plenty of others that I conduct myself appropriately here. I see no need to own up to anything because I am not guilty of anything you've accused me of. My post (36,124) was direct and yes full of strong phrases, but no personal insults of any kind were ever thrown your way. You can't say the same. So, move on. I've wasted enough time on this already.

The album or song (36,160) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
Hello my Archives family. I hope all is well with everyone. I have a question for us all, what's the name of the one album or one song that when you hear it, it takes back to the moment when you first discovered Mimi or you became a fan? If I had to choose the album that will define that moment for me is Mariah Carey and the single Vision Of Love.

SNL 1997 and The Hills Premier Party 2008 (36,159) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
My favorite Mariah's look would be at the SNL 1997 and at the Hills Premier Party 2008. She looked exactly the same at those two events. The gap would be 11 years. She's aging very well.
