SNL 1997 and The Hills Premier Party 2008 (36,159)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

|
|
My favorite Mariah's look would be at the SNL 1997 and at the Hills Premier Party 2008. She looked exactly the same at those two events. The gap would be 11 years. She's aging very well.

Re: You Need Me (rock-influence) and Prisoner (rap-influence) (36,157)

Love Takes Time was the second single from the self-titled debut album. Two other singles, Someday and I Don't Wanna Cry respectively, were released by the record label Columbia (the Sony outfit in the US) after that. Then came the Emotions album. I just can't find the logic or any merit in this statement, "rumors that Prisoner was supposed to be Mariah's next single after Love Takes Time, but Sony decided to release Emotions (her second album)" because 2 singles were released after Love Takes Time before the second album, Emotions, was even released. And I think even in other countries (from different continents) such as UK, Australia, Japan and here in The Philippines (not sure about the countries in South America and Africa), the succession of single releases was very similar to that of in the US with the exception of the UK which had There's Got To Be A Way as the 5th single from the debut album. I wasn't a fan then when Mariah came out in 1990, so I don't really know for sure what the rumors circling around were back then, but the good thing about collecting her items is that you get to go back somehow to a certain era in Mariah's long standing music career, know the history of a song/single and with some research from verifiable sources be able to distinguish facts from plain rumors and even rumors with absolutely no merit.

Yes, You Need Me is a stone cold killa track. Love the guitar solo in that song. Prisoner cracks me up because Mimi appears to be rapping.

I just love listening to these two throwback album-fillers from Mariah. I heard rumors that Prisoner was supposed to be Mariah's next single after Love Takes Time, but Sony decided to release Emotions (her second album).

Hope you had a good one. Just trying to spread some positivity on the board. So funny story, when Honey came out, one of the Tower Records by me had an actual bottle of honey displayed on one of the window shelves, with a sign next to it that said Mariah Carey Honey. It stayed there for years.

Have you checked your posts here lately, Stacey? Or do I need to ask Eric to purge the other pages aside from the last 4 that can be accessed here still? "None of my comments were snide toward anyone on this subject." Please! Does this quote from your post (36,124) ring a bell to you? "The audacity of some to question another's dedication to MC blows my mind. Who do some of you guys think you are? Ugh. If I don't like something, I am going to say it. That does not change my support of MC. Crap, I've been a fan longer than most of you have been alive, lol. Believe it. I love how quickly folks judge others as fairweather fans based on one opinion of a song, one opinion. You mean to tell me you love every version of every song she's ever recorded? There is not a song out there you don't like? Yeah ok. I don't expect MC to hit #1 each time. Most of the songs I've listened to recently weren't #1. She's been so successful for so long, I honestly don't care if she hits #1 or not. I live in reality." Not everyone in this fan board is righteous and in denial as you are! We both speak our minds here. The only difference between you and me is that I'm not a hypocrite and I own up to whatever I say here or elsewhere. So much for conducting properly on public messageboards!

TJ, Till the End of Time is such a great song. I wish I could hear it sung live too. The bridge and entrance into the final chorus gives me chills everytime. Rod, how much time did you spend going back and checking all my comments? Oh dear, it ain't that deep for me. For some reason, you felt it ok to insult my chosen career choice and even my country. Might want to check yourself before accusing me of being snide. None of my comments were snide toward anyone on this subject. But, for some reason, my posts apparently ruffled your feathers. That's on you. Nattalie and I have very different views on Triumphant and yet we managed to have a nice discussion. I welcome opposing viewpoints, but not when they include snide, subtle remarks toward other MC fans who they disagree with. Confident in my opinions? Yes. Always right? Heck no. And if Triumphant does well, I will happily admit I was wrong. I've done it before and it will be wrong again tons more in the future. See, I've been posting online for 13+ years now at varous MC sites and know how to conduct myself with other Mariah fans. I was here long before you and I'll be here well after you leave. Peace.

My favorite song is Honey; always was been and always will be. My birthday is today, 26.8, and I was shocked when I found out that Honey was also released on the same day of 1997. I only found out that last year. That whole album, Butterfly album, is just pure clean melodic perfection. My favorite ballad is "After tonight" from Rainbow.

Criticism of people on this site needs to stop? This isn't Nazi Germany or communist North Korea. Get over yourself! If a "stan" wants to kiss Mariah's a$$, it is his/her right to do so as it is your right as a "fan" to criticize Mariah for her so called mistakes. You're right about "stans" accusing "fans" of not being true because they're critical and yes, too critical of Mariah. But you also forgot to mention that "fans" also ridicule and mock "stans" and "lambs" alike for liking Mariah's a$$ everytime or not being critical about her mistakes. Or was that intentional?

by Rod from Philippines

Fourth, every snide remark I make here is targeted to everyone who thinks they are 1. guilty of the crime and 2. being targeted. They usually are the first ones to overreact. I've seen some people here throw snide remarks too including you. But I don't see them crying wolf over it as much as you and your friends here do though. Fifth, liking/disliking a Mariah song is subjective. Judging the quality of a Mariah song is also subjective. Chart position only reflects the popularity of a song. Popularity is never a measure of quality. When a song hits #1 on Billboard or any other chart, it doesn't always mean that the song is good in everyone's ears. It only means it's the most popular song. Or when a song charts in the lower half or doesn't chart at all, it doesn't always mean that the song is bad. You can like/dislike any Mariah song you want. You can criticize Mariah all you want. No one's stopping you. But with every opinion/criticism you make here on a Mariah message/fan board whether it's about a Mariah song or Mariah herself comes (though not necessarily always) a counter opinion/criticism from everyone else including me. Not everyone is going to like you, your opinion or even agree with you. I just support my opinion with either facts (sales/airplay figures) or my observations/analyses so as not to make a fool of myself here. Sixth and lastly, freedom of speech is not just exercised in USA alone. And I'm not here for the Congeniality Award. I'm here to talk about Mariah.

Disgruntle Goats (36,139)
by RadChad from United States

It's funny how people can come on here and be very negative about a career decision Mariah has made, but then get mad/ defensive when someone else voice their opinion regarding those negative comments. It's fine to voice your opinion (good or bad) in a respectful way, but when you go too far (cross a certain) be prepaired to get checked. Just like you're entitled to your opinion, so are we and we will voice them as well. Good day.

Re: Thoughts (36,124) Part 1 (36,138)
by Rod from Philippines

First off, this statement of yours "I don't proclaim to be a die-hard fan, I am one" is contradicting. Stating you are one (die hard fan) on a public message board which also happens to be a Mariah fan board is "proclaiming" that you are a die hard Mariah fan. Brush up your English vocabulary, dear grade school teacher. Second, when you make statements such as these, "Crap, I've been a fan longer than most of you have been alive, lol. Believe it." (36,124) and "Because when you put out a so-so song (my opinion) and don't promote it right, this is what you get. I hope I'm wrong. Something tells me I'm not, though." (36,034), then you ask a question like this one "Who do some of you guys think you are?"(36,124) and finally, you make a snide remark of your own such as this one "I love how quickly folks judge others as fairweather fans based on one opinion of a song, one opinion."(36,124), it gives the impression that you are trying to imply in your statements that you know better and that you are better than most fans here. Righteous much? Third, everyone can give their opinion here. Everyone can also give their opinion on someone else's opinion. Now, if you can't handle someone else's opinion on your opinion, if you expect everyone else to take yours as fact because you "have been a fan longer than most of you have been alive" and if you expect everyone to agree with you everytime, a message/fan board such as this is not the place for you "to chat and have some fun".

Fave songs (36,135)
by Jenny from South Africa

I also love Now That I Know. It's fun and relate-able. I also think When I Saw You on the Daydream album is an absolute gem. Angels Cry (original and Neyo remix) is beautiful too. MC's version of Do You Know Where You're Going To is my favourite version of that song. I also adore I Wish You Well on E=MC2. Her vocals on that song are awesome and I love the song's message. Emotions and Without You will always be my ultimate MC songs though. Emotions is crazy fun to sing along to and her high notes in that song knock me dead each time I listen. And Without You is sung with so much emotion and showcases her underrated low notes. And she holds that note near the end for ages. Love it love it love it! Honestly though there are so many MC songs I adore. Its hard to pick a few. I feel like I'm leaving out numerous amazing songs. Lol.

Get over it already (36,134)
by Lyric from USA
| |
|
|
The criticism of people on this site needs to stop. A fan doesn't need to like or support every career choice Mariah makes. There is a difference between a "stan" and a "fan". Stans tend to accuse fans of not being true when they are just brave enough to speak out about Mariah's mistakes. Just because some people are comfortable kissing ass, doesn't mean everyone has to be. Get over yourselves. I don't like Triumphant, I don't like the video, I don't like Memoirs. And I am still a FAN.
