Mariah Carey is one of the most successful pop singers in U.S. history. She has dozens of smashes to her credit, and she dominated the Billboard charts for many years. While she's now spacing out her releases more than she used to, and she hasn't been collecting huge wins like she did throughout the '90s, the superstar earns not just another hit this week, but her first on one tally.
The chanteuse debuts on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart this week with a surprising new release. A remix of Carey's "Portrait" launches at No. 44 on the ranking of the most-consumed tracks in both the dance and electronic genres.
"Portrait" is labeled as the Hopeful Child remix. It is specifically that version of the tune that reaches the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart this frame, as the original likely wouldn't have been eligible, based on its style.
Shockingly, "Portrait" marks Carey's first hit on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Despite the fact that hundreds of remixes of her work have been released throughout the years, none of them have placed on this tall or counted toward her total career output when it comes to the weekly rankings.
Carey scores the fourth-loftiest debut on the list this frame. She follows new releases from the likes of Nelly Furtado, Skrillex, and even hard rockers Bring Me the Horizon.
"Portrait" isn't a new song, though the remix does make it feel fresh once again. The tune was featured on her 2018 album Caution, which stands as her most recent full-length. The song was just recently spun off as a minor single from the years-old project, and now it's given the singer another chart hit.
