Re: "Alone In Love" (89,062) (89,069) by Bill from the UK
Interesting. I never paired them as a part 1 and part 2 before.

Caution 93k (89,068) by RibbonB from USA
Wow, Caution has reached 93K in pure album sales in the US. Strange times. Mariah's next moves are going to be very interesting. Are her memoirs really the next best step?

Hero.

Baby, for me it's Hero, TTR, then CTTA. Hero speaks to my mind, body, and soul. That song for me is everything and in my humble opinion it's one of Mariah's best lyrically written songs. Still to this day if I am going through something I will play Hero. TTR is a great song. Again very well written lyrics with substance/depth accompanied by a great music video that had a real story line. Miss those days. CTTA is just way too corny for me and please don't let me get started on that video.

One of her most underrated songs, along with Underneath The Stars.

Re: How are singles chosen? (89,048) (89,064) by jaker20 from US
It is probably a combination of artist and label decision, as well as how fans has received the song.

Mariah followed a formula for a long time, which is first release an uptempo/upbeat, followed by a ballad, examples, Emotions/Can't Let Go, Dreamlover/Hero, Fantasy/OSD, Its Like That/WBT, and a few others.

But that's the same formula that betrayed her with Touch My Body/Bye Bye, when the second single should have been Migrate. By that time, the old formula was really tired.

Re: Mariah Carey taps Shawni for second "A No No" remix (89,053) (89,063) by jaker20 from US
Boring remix. Sounds like a 1999 remix. Just let it go, the song is over, the timing is over, the A No No boat has left long ago. No one cares. She's not creative anymore.

Re: "Alone In Love" (89,060) (89,062) by Morgan from United States
"All in Your Mind" is about a lover reassuring her partner she's still in love, still invested, still around and part of a relationship that he apparently feels that she's checked out of. She has to actually beg him to "believe her" and it's all just misunderstandings. She wants him to look at her and she do the same (lot of eye references). While in "Alone in Love", dude is gone. Whatever her proclamations were in "Mind" did no good and he doesn't believe her and he won't even look into her eyes anymore ("You turn the other way"). She wanted to make it work, he still left.

Hello Randy. How do You feel about TAOLG? I always found great inspiration within this song's lyrics. Perhaps not as uplifting as the ones you mentioned but nevertheless with an empowering message.

Re: "Alone In Love" (89,056) (89,060) by Bill from the UK
Really? To me they have very noticeable differences both in theme and sound. Thematically, All In Your Mind is about reassuring a partner that you're committed, and Alone In Love is about a partner who has left you after a whirlwind romance. All In Your Mind has that brilliant faux-reggae outro that is one of the best things on the debut, and is structured in a standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus arrangement, whereas Alone In Love has a brilliant arrangement of chorus-verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus.

Totally agree. I love the song so much. I also think that's the ultimate Mariah sound. The real "trademark". Dreamy, powerful and softly all in one song. It has something that can't be created by other artists. Pure Mariah.

Through The Rain, CTTA and then Hero. Although, when Hero came out, I bought the cassette tape album and played it more than TTR almost everyday.

Through The Rain is definitely the best, but then I was never a fan of Hero, I can appreciate the vocals but the schmaltz factor gets me. Can't Take That Away is just clunky and doesn't work.

I can't listen to "Alone in Love" without it being doubled up with "All in Your Mind". They feel like two tracks that blend cohesively production-wise and lyrically.

Through The Rain, Hero, or Can't Take That Away (89,054) by Randy from USA
Ok B, Special K and whoever else. Which of the inspirational songs are best. They all have the same message. Through The Rain in my opinion has the strongest vocal, video and lyric. This actually is a run-away win that you can't debate and yet during the Genius interview, she dogged Through The Rain and lifted up the other two. Because Through The Rain peaked at #81.

"Alone In Love" (89,052) by Billy from Greece
Can we show this absolute gem some love? One of the first songs that I fell in love with, and one of the benchmarks of Mariah's sound in my opinion. She seems to also consider it special, given that she has mentioned it several times (most recently the Genius interview). When the demos leaked, AIL's demo was also included. It was slightly different and equally haunting. It's the only one you can't find online anymore. Just in thought that the nightmare camp has stolen the demo tape, I want to very, and I mean very, bad things to them.

Re: One thing Mariah does that pisses me off (89,039) (89,051) by Special K from USA
I don't know if Mariah is actually "hating" on her work or just giving excuses as to why Glitter and Charmbracelet didn't do well commercially. To me Charmbracelet did very well considering the fact that the album had no commercial hit singles and Mariah's career was in the tank. Mariah did say on TRL recently that she didn't give Glitter no love because it almost killed her. I'm generalizing, those weren't her exact words but she basically was saying the Glitter era was very painful for her and for years it was hard for her to pay attention to that album which I as a die hard fan understand. Give Mariah a little credit. She is now actually performing songs from that album. Regarding fans hating Bye Bye. I think we diehards were just utterly disappointed that song was the second single. There were so many songs on E=MC2 that had potential to be great hits and it would have been nice to break the formula of first single mid tempo song then follow up with a ballad. We diehards just feel that Migrate and OOC were better singles. Those songs were different, out of the box for Mariah. LA Reid wanted to play it safe instead of taking chance.

Why do I have a feeling that at the end of this subway ride Missy and LiL Kim are gonna jump on board? Hmmm. Now wouldn't that be cray, cray?

Last US show, Caution tour plus board activity (89,049) by DK from USA
Got to see MC in Bethlehem, PA - her last US stop for Caution Tour (this was my 4th time seeing her throughout her career). My first impression of the venue is that it felt super intimate (2nd row seating) but apparently it houses 6000 guests (not as small as I thought). MC came out a bit late, around 9:15 and curtains went down around 10:30. In a way it felt like a quick show (she didn't sing songs like Portrait or With You). Overall, she was fantastic.

How are singles chosen? (89,048) by Jeff from USA
Hi everyone. Just curious. Does anyone know how singles are chosen? Is it the label? Does the artist have influence? Are second, third, etc. singles chosen based on downloads/radio requests? Thanks for any info.

Re: One thing Mariah does that pisses me off (89,039) (89,047) by Bill from the UK
I can't say I disagree with you. She has also dismissed the debut album in a similar fashion before, especially Someday and I Don't Wanna Cry, both of which are highlights. I agree Through the Rain is a great song and doesn't deserve to be written off like that.

Re: All over the place (89,027) (89,046) by B from USA
The same was said about With You but it became a hit at Adult Contemporary and R&B radio. I'm taking a wait and see approach to A No No before deeming it a failure.

Re: GML (89,032) (89,045) by B from USA
Agreed. The Grammy's wouldn't pass up the opportunity to honor Slick Rick. I honestly believe Caution will win the Grammy Award for Best Best R&B Album.
