Yeah, Kyla is great. Of all Mariah's emulators in the country, she comes closest in terms of tone and fluidity. She's actually known as the R&B princess here, so that is kind of a big deal. You may also wanna check out Regine Velasquez, Nina (Girado), and Morissette Amon. They also have very impressive voices. Regine has been in the industry even a bit longer than Mariah has. In terms of music heard on Pinoy radio, it's pretty much a mixed bag, and there also have been sweeping trends. There was a time when local pop/rock bands were everywhere (mid to late 00s). And then K-pop, J-pop, and even Taiwanese pop took over (late 00s to around 2013). Some of these acts are still popular, but foreign western pop/rock/R&B has regained popularity as of late (it dominated the airwaves since the 90's then slowed down when the "band"wagon arrived). But one trend that has been pretty much consistently alive in the country is the covering of older (usually around 70s-90s) foreign hits. Like I once before here, one artist can practically build a career on singing covers (Kyla, Nina, Regine, and pretty much every female and even male pop singer in the country has around at least half of their discography consist of renditions). Rom-coms and even drama flicks in the country nowadays more often than not borrow their titles from cover songs or their lyrics. So yeah, that's pretty much what the airwaves generally sound like in the Philippines. I mean, sure, there are other stations that exclusively play this or that genre, but they usually have a specific, limited audience.

Exactly Licia, exactly. She said Happy Birthday beautiful Beyonce. I think sometimes MC gets accused of being calculating and manipulative when really she just goes about her life she just happens to have money and fame as part of the package. The photo is most likely the most recent one at an event.

The comeback trail (56,535)

I really think Mariah and her team know what they're doing. Aside from Beautiful, it's been years since Mariah has had a hit. She's been out of the public's gossip for a while, aside from her Christmas debacle last year. So Mariah and Co. have been slowly rebuilding her image. Releasing a compilation indicating her legenday status? Having a solid residency showing she still has it? Appearing on one of the biggest primetime tv shows? Seeing a new man to show the divorce is in the past? Getting a Hollywoood star? Nailing her interviews? A Christmas children's book and film? Being seen as a great mother despite everything? Check. Even though it would have been nice for her to have an epic year music wise, like 1995 and 2005, this year has been spent rebuilding her tarnished image. Now they just have to figure out the music (which is a little ironic). Her press has been a lot more positive recently, and even the general public acknowledges her as a legend. Will she able to break through the youth-obsessed, lack of talent current pop scene? Probably not, because Mariah's level is too high to stoop that low. But songs like Beautiful and YDKWTD show that she still knows how to make current music that's quality, and there's no reason for her to age herself 20 years and record standards. Sony will not allow her next studio album to drop and disappear like her last two. Her time will come.

Filipino Lambs (56,533)

That video of the kids singing in school is so freaking cute. It's so adorable they have a little bit of an accent too. I'm realizing how great Philippines music taste is. Mariah is definitely treated like an icon, when I saw how she was welcomed there last year, I think I can say that they are some of the best fans in the world. Good job you guys. I think they honestly have got some of the best singers too, I've looked up Filipino divas and most of them are influenced by Mariah heavily. Particularly there's a singer I've discovered and really was impressed by, named Kyla, I don't really know how old she is but I've heard her sing Miss You Most and you can tell she's a lamb, her voice is very angelic. Similar tone with Mariah, she just made me happy because she sings Mimi songs most people don't know. Check out Mine Again and Butterfly. She did so great. I know she's pretty much emulated Mariah's flow and vocals but that's really the only way to sing MC's songs and I think she gave justice to Butterfly especially. I never thought someone could actually put together that vocal run at the climax. Mariah usually have back up singers continue, but she did it all by herself. It makes me happy that true lambs are successful as singers too. I don't really know how big of an artist she is, but I really do find her vocal abilities amazing, dahling. Filipino Lambs: What's music like in Philippines? What's songs are on the radio? Unlike neighboring countries (Indonesia, Singapore, China etc.). How come Filipinos seems to have better enunciation when they sing? You can barely tell they're foreigners when they sing an English song. Thank you. God bless you guys.

I don't know about the others but B is definitely not a shallow fan. He has been a huge supporter ever since he joined the board. He wasn't part of the weight arguments either. Or if he was, it was only to stop those topics. As for the topics you have mentioned, yes it's true but everyone has talked about those and made thousands of "top 10" lists on this board possibly covering every aspect of her career. Music videos, songs, live performances you name it. Yes I do not support the weight criticisms but I see nothing wrong in the other things that are being discussed here.

Lol. She released a whole new album back in 2014, another re-release very recently and the Vegas Shows next year, the Christmas run she's preparing, enough subject for you? It's kinda shallow to talk about her weight just because you think you got to subjects. So some here say, "What else are we going to talk about when we have no new music to look forward to?" Are people serious? We got 14 albums to talk about, 62 videos, several tours, interviews, pip moments to talk about. How shallow are you people?

Her residency was a success and she proved she's still The Voice. She' got the public's sympathy because of the messy divorce and Nick 's douchebag attitude. With Empire and the Beacon shows coming up she's primed for a comeback. She needs an amazing song for Empire. A song like Breakdown, The Roof, Side Effects, and or an urban EDM banger with a huge chorus and soaring vocala.

There's been an increase in positive Mariah press lately, due to her being out in public with her kids or going on dates. The DM readers have been more positive in their comments lately, which is a rarity considering the things they've written about Mariah in the past.

Yeah, Mariah Carey is one of the subjects we take in school. It is a vital part of our curriculum. People should know the awesomeness that is Mariah. It's a course we have to pass if we don't want Mimi's ear-piercing whistle to be played in loop until our windows break. Haha. But seriously no, it's just Pinoys literally worship their divas. Filipinos are very loyal fans. Once they find and artist to idolize, he/she/they has/have gained a lifelong fan who's ready to defend him/her/them against detractors to death.

Licia I agree. To be honest I don't think Beyonce looks that bad in the photo. Perhaps Mariah only wanted to post a pic of them together that has already been in the media and not a private one. What I thought was bizarre about Mariah sharing that pic is that she is sitting on Nick's lap in it. It's slightly cropped but you can still see his face. I guess she is truly over him

The Emancipation Of Mimi (56,522)
by Giovanni from USA

Is one of the best albums of all time. I was listening to it today and it still sounds as new as it did when it first came out. Mariah really out did herself with this record. Everyone thought she was done but she showed them she wasn't. I would love for that to happen again. I know she's has given us 25 years of music. But I feel even with all her success and records she's still not finished. I would never want her to stop making music. She's the queen of music and still the best talent in the music industry today. Even if there are singers who can really blow on stage, it doesn't matter. They can't make an album like Mariah can. So Mariah, if there's a chance you're reading this, I'd like to say thank you for sharing your talent with the world. I hope you continue making great music. Get inspired, train your voice, write some amazing lyrics and show again why you're the best selling, hardest working woman in the business.

Deedre I agree. I think she and Beyonce are still on good terms and there wasn't anything shady about Mariah wishing her a happy birthday. Normally when Mariah is mad at someone she doesn't acknowledge them period. I also didn't see anything wrong with the pic she posted. It wasn't a bad shot. That actually was the last time I saw Mariah and her in a pic together. Maybe that's why Mariah posted it.

The problem is, Mariah Carey is known for her perfect sexy body. Adele and Meghan Trainor started their respective careers with that body so the public accepts them. But for MC's case, she is one of the sexiest singers in the biz and all of the sudden, she gains weight and many people started to have disinterest in her music and this is the reality. Like what Katy said, the industry is shallow. Personally, I don't care if Mariah gains weight or not, the most important thing is her voice and her music. But if I will think as what general public and the industry wants, she must slim down and bring back her hot body for her to gain more popularity, hit singles and albums. Do you think Beyonce or Rihanna will have that popularity and followers if they are having more weight? I don't think so.

I'm not saying it doesn't help. However, that alone won't make her popular. It's also obvious she gets a lot more confident when she's slimmer, both musically and on stage. The music industry is harsh against anyone who's a bit bigger, and I'm sure she knows that. But what would be the point working tirelessly to get a fab body right now when she's not going to be on stage promoting anything? People on here should just learn to be happy for her. I could be wrong but it wouldn't seem right to bring out an album now so I'd rather her eat fancy food, be romanced and get inspired and then bring a killer album after Christmas at some point. Then start getting into shape. She said in an interview that she wants to lose it anyway so it's not like she's not aware of it lol.

Skinny does sell because nobody want to see a giant Mariah (or anyone) straddle a motorcycle. Of course skinny isn't going to give her huge hits but I think Meghan Trainor and Adele are unfair comparisons because they have their youth on their side; something we all know is most valuable in hollywood - regardless of size.

I have to be honest, I think there is way too much being read into the photo Mariah posted on her facebook wishing Beyonce happy birthday. Just because there is speculation that Bey stole the concept behind MIAMTEC, doesn't make it fact. I didn't feel anything malicious behind Mariah's message, and I thought they both looked beautiful.

Your post comes off as a desperate attempt to distract from the indisputable points I made about strange men, having nothing but negative things to say about one of the most beautiful women alive and how she should change her body to their specific, yet contradictory, liking. As far as we know, you are (hopefully) also complete strangers to her which makes it creepy to be honest. People with possible personality disorders who obsess over the cutting and slicing of a female's body who doesn't even know you exist? I'd be scared to label you and your lot. How you turned that into gay bashing I will thankfully never know. But whatever keeps you up at night is fine by me.
