The "lambs" (47,139) by LC from USA
I am really disgusted by some of the comments on here. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Now, I don't care if any of you call me a "delusional lamb" because I'm being optimistic and supportive. I mean, isn't that your default comeback to anyone who disagrees with your high and mighty "unbiased" opinion? None of us knows what she is going through right now and some of the comments you guys have said are truly horrible. "This is her second divorce. She was fine after the first one." Um, you act like both divorces were the same and should produce the same consequences and emotions. Mariah said that Nick was the only person she ever truly fell in love with. She didn't want kids because she didn't want to bring them up in this lifestyle, but because she was so confident that she and Nick would be together, she had them. Now, look where she is. Imagine how heartbroken she must be. Then, "I would be mortified if my friends and family saw her like this." Really? When Mariah is going through the toughest period of her life, what you care about are your feelings and your emotions and how her problems will reflect on you. Wow. I feel so bad that someone else's divorce and vocal problems will affect how people think of you. If you're mortified, imagine Mariah crying because she disappointed her fans and herself. Even when Whitney couldn't hold a note live or in studio, and the media bashed her endlessly, her loyal fans never turned on her. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Really.

Lee, the tour / the voice (47,138) by Marcus from Brazil
Lee, I was just thinking the same thing. Some lambs talk as if Mariah's voice problems stem from not resting it. How long does she need to rest her voice for it to have some consistency, 5 more years? I don't think anybody's expecting 90's quality performances anymore. A consistent rather acceptable show would be ok. Mariah is a vocalist, and what entertains us is her voice. All these crazy ad-libbing moments to avoid sustaining or carrying a note shows her voice is completely out of control. It is as if every day she comes closer to the state Whitney's voice was when people started walking out of her concerts. Only thing was Whitney had a well known addiction. Whoever encouraged poor Whitney to embark on a tour with her voice in that condition must've been delusional.

There are no words (47,136) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Everybody knows I am the eternal optimist and the loudest to shout to show Mariah support. But the snippets of the concert? I have only this to say, based on what I've heard, if she tours Europe I won't be buying a ticket. If I take friends and family to see her, who I have constantly and consistently praised as the greatest singer of all time, I would be utterly mortified if they heard that. I love you so much Mariah, but I can't live in fantasy land. It's actually truly heartbreaking.

Vocal rest (47,135) by THE TRUTH from USA
To those people who are commenting that "MC has had plenty of vocal rest and how much more does she need", I have to say: shut up. You have no idea how hard the drinking, flying, lack of sleep, etc are on a singer's voice. Vocal rest done properly would include very little of the above. Lighten up, it's not all about what you want from MC, life goes on and we all do the best we can. If you feel so compelled to criticize her work ethic maybe you should take up the mic.

She's flown into the wind (47,134) by Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan from USA
I'll give her that her opening nights are usually not the best of the tours. This show put me in a Rainbow tour/Adventures Of Mimi space. I just need to hear a full Vision Of Love performance. That and I'll Be There usually are the litmus test for her current vocal state. I'm concerned that the staging and theatricality are so abysmal. It's boring quite frankly. She looked like she had no damns to give about that show. She looked like Britney on stage, zoned out. If she isn't up to, then cancel the shows. We don't need another Britney Circus tour or Whitney Nothin' But Love tour. A part of me feels bad for Mariah but another part feels like she needs her butt kicked a bit for her shenanigans. I guess ultimately we have to ask ourselves who, including lambs, would pay good money to sit through a show like this?

If It's Over (47,133) by Andrew from UK
Don't you know we won't make no more apologies
We're not getting no sympathy
All we're asking for is no lip-syncing
We heard half this before
When we played the CD's
Oh it isn't fair
Your voice is not right
But if your cords are shot
Shut this sh*t down tonight
If it's over, if it's over

Intro to MC (47,132) by Mikey from USA
Hey guys, so I have a friend that I'm introducing to MC, he had a rough time around 1989/90 when MC exploded, so he associates her early popular songs/singles with that time so he never got into MC. I'm making him an intro compilation avoiding early singles, this is what it looks like (sequenced):
1. Honey
2. Underneath The Stars
3. Make It Look
4. Heartbreaker
5. Melt Away
6. My All
7. I Feel It
8. Forever
9. We Belong Together
10. Anytime You Need A Friend
11. Thank God I Found You
12. Daydream Interlude
What do you guys think?

Vocal resting? (47,131) by Lee from UK
Why are people encouraging Mariah to rest her vocals? Really, what has she been doing since the release of the album? Singing the whole time? Not that I have seen. How much more vocal rest does the woman need? I love Mariah to bits, and will always be a fan, but I am under no delusion that vocal rest will improve what we hear.

Comparissons at Saint (47,130) by May from Denmark
The problem is that you are comparing Mariah Carey who is known as "the voice" - someone whose voice matters and who holds a place in history along with the likes of Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Aretha Franklin, etc. of big beautiful and powerful voices in all genres of music - with singers now at days who are known for their mimics and gimmicks and who are not really known for their voices. Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc. are all crummy singers, they are terrible singing live, like truly bad, Rihanna has forgotten the lyrics several times and Katy Perry jumps like a puppy dog on stage without caring how she is sounding. People expect more of Mariah because of this, she was never a dancer, she was never a performer, she was never someone who could do tricks on stage, she was never someone who wore big feathers with flashy lights in her bikinis. She was known as this woman who will present herself in a simple attire or a formal gown on stage and deliver notes with her impressive voice.

Shelly (47,129) by PJW from The U.K.
I grasp the concept of a tour DVD, it's pretty self explicable. What I question is the point of a DVD dubbed where she's not happy with certain bits? What does anyone gain from this aside from a false perception of the show, her voice, the true emotion of each moment etc. It removes the necessity of it being this particular tour, unless its an aesthetic thing and one gained some kind of gratification at seeing an up-to-date Mariah on stage miming as opposed to Mariah from X year singing the same song.

First show / Randy (47,126) by Jenny from South Africa
Her first show of her tours is always a bit off and then the shows get better afterwards. Even on the Fantasy tour. Critics were giving her poor reviews for the first Fantasy show and she stepped it up from the second show. It's normal for her. Yes even in the magical 90s. Fans on this board were begging her to sing live even if she sounds bad and asking for different songs to be sung on tour and more songs to be sung and she did all of that for us. I think people would be happier if they started focusing on the positives instead of only the negatives.

First show (47,125) by Elena from The Netherlands
Absolutely thrilled with the Billie Holiday cover. I hope this is her way to see the public's response to her singing jazz to hopefully record one meanwhile. I wonder if she will sing different jazz songs each concert. Having said that, it's the only positive thing I can say about the performance. I'm done with the fakery. She lipped entire songs instead of just bits. Not even changed them up. Just the regular records playing in the back. And when she did not lip, it sounded horrible. MC is going through a lot and I believe it would've been better if she took a break and let her voice rest. If not that, then maybe just write a record in the studio and spend time with her kids. You can't let your dear fans pay for this. There isn't anything other going on to entertain them on that stage. I wish she experimented more on stage like she does with her records.

The Elusive Chanteuse Show (47,124) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Randy, I agree with you 100%. All of these are just excuses. She's has been doing this for way too long for any excuses to be relevant. This is her second divorce and she was doing amazing at the time of the last one. This does remind me a lot of Whitney when her voice was gone, lots of talking awkward ad-libbing to prevent having to hold a note, and short bursts of a note to make up for what it should be. I love this album and wish her success, I just think she has relied on the studio and lip syncing for so long that she doesn't have the discipline for the care that goes in to a live tour. Your mention of Patty, Chaka, Tina was right on. They've got decades on Mariah and still sound great. I just saw Chaka recently and she was amazing. I wish Mariah the best, but I think she is in denial that something needs to change for her career to survive. Her fan base seems to enable the delusion more than help the cause.

Mariah's voice (47,123) by Marissa from USA
I pray that Mariah can get her vocals in control for the rest of the tour. When I saw the headline "Mariah Carey's voice calls it quits" my heart damn near broke. I know plenty of people try to reaffirm that Mariah can pull through, but seriously you guys, Mariah's voice is extremely unpredictable and we all know that. One day she'll sound pretty good, the next day we're cringing for her and bracing ourselves for the impending media slaughter. I haven't heard consistent vocal stability from her since she was pregnant. This isn't an "MC's gonna slay, just watch" type of situation anymore. She needs professional help because it's clear that her voice is beyond her control. If she could have pulled it together on her own, she would have done that years ago. I hope she gets all the help that she needs.

Wow (47,122) by Abraham from USA
When I saw the pictures of Mariah in Japan, I couldn't believe it. She looks amazing. I love the hair color and style. She looks so beautiful and sexy with long hair. And the blue dress is stunning. I have to say that I'm kind of disappointed with some of the posts. The doubt and negativity. I listened to a little of the audio from the show and honestly yes, it wasn't her best. But I'm not counting her out. Never have, never will. I think she just needs a vocal coach. Simple exercises can help repair a singer's voice. I would in no way say that it's gone. As G.G. stated (speak for yourself) when a singer loses their voice, they have no power, range or can belt. Mariah still has all of that. She's just not singing in the right keys. Also, the fact that she still has her whistle register is pretty amazing. I hope she pulls through. I'm definitely going to continue to support and believe in her.

Billy / Jazz Mariah (47,121) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I agree with you with Mariah venturing more into jazz, especially considering her current vocal condition. It has adapted a more mature, smokier, more buttery tone that would probably fit the genre more than R&B. Belting isn't her vocal sweet spot anymore. It's her falsetto. Listen to Christmas Time Is In The Air Again, Charlie Brown Christmas, and When Do The Bells Ring For Me and you'll notice her voice naturally fits jazz than it does forced against a modern R&B track like You're Mine or Supernatural. Belting is much less needed in jazz. I truly believe that at a good day, she'll be able to sing Fourth Of July, Underneath The Stars and The Wind better with her current voice than she ever could in the 90s, just because of that tone. It's as if she sounds more 'expensive' now than she did back then when she mostly just sounded impressive. If she doesn't do jazz, then more traditional or throwback R&B is another natural fit, as evinced by Mine Again, Circles, IWYK, Your Girl, IAW, WCC, YDKWTD, TAOLG, #B, and MILG. Either way she goes in the future, she may no longer set the charts on fire, but at least it would make for better, age appropriate music that she could replicate more easily in live performances.

Too much? (47,120) by Darryle from USA
I think this tour might be too much for Mariah right now. With the tour, the divorce, the twins, and the media it seems like it would be a lot to handle. Maybe Mariah should just take a break and get away from the lime light and enjoy being a mom maybe work on her voice. Just relax and let things cool down for a bit and get her life together. This tour could be Mariah's way of getting away from it all. She'd be away from direct media scrutiny, she wouldn't deal with the divorce. She'd get to do what she loves, connect with the fans and sing. At the end of the day I hope Mariah proves me wrong and shows me that she's got this and the tour just started off on the wrong foot.

Jazz (47,119) by Mara from United States
Mariah please do a jazz album. I have said this in many posts here, that her voice is perfect for jazz. That performance of Billie Holiday was incredible. Jazz is just effortless to her, and suits her voice even now 25 years of singing. I think she needs to be given a little slack, she is going though a life changing public divorce. Her life is pulled through the media daily and she obviously feels she can do the tour and it probably is therapeutic to her at the same time. Can we just take a minute and say, she looks amazing right now. She has lost weight and you can see it in her arms and how her face looks. She is so beautiful. I can't believe how the minute she hits the stage and notes are off, the claws come out and the media and people are quick to crucify her. It could have been an off night. I agree that as she goes on she will sound better. Whoever mentioned the Tina Fey Amy P skit was brilliant. That would have been a nice highlight on the tour.

Mariah's current vocal state (47,118) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Okay, how should I put this carefully. Her voice is still there, but it sounds tired, forced, and strained. She just wasn't ready for the show. There are a lot of things going with her life right now. I know there has to be some point that should stop being an excuse, and that having her resources she should be able to do everything in her power (vocal coaching, treatment, if needed) to help restore or at least preserve it, but before we get too critical for the millionth time, let's just take a moment and consider cutting her some slack again (even if it's for the millionth time as well). Mariah Carey is not dumb. She knows that singing has become much more challenging for her now. But since she doesn't talk about her vocal decline for personal reasons, it's harder to know just what's going through her mind about her voice. Whether she's in denial, feeling helpless, or just too scared that public admission of it would ruin her reputation is still anybody's guess. She gets more than enough criticism online already. I know this may sound like blind allegiance, but since this is her voice we're talking about and she's currently on tour, it would be better for every lamb to just keep defending her and hope and pray she gets it together during this crucial period. Plus, it's gotta be worth something that she still went ahead and exposed her voice at that condition for what seems to be most of the night when she easily could've mimed all the way through the entire concert.

Mariah makes me happy (47,117) by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
I am a true lamb that is so stoked on Mariah Carey that I could be her publicist. Lol. I think her tour setlist is great considering she's performing in much larger stadiums in Asia. People don't pay over $200 to hear 10 songs. I also like that she seems authentic and not divaish this time. We have not heard of her being hours late as we are used to expecting, which is an A+++. She seems very focused. I have been to her twitter and facebook. People who live in those countries are saying she sounded great and there are no negative comments I have seen on her pages. I only see negative comments on public forums and limited tabloids. Less tabloids the better. I always find it interesting that tabloids become hush hush about Mariah when positive things are going her way. I am genuially happy she is single and free. She seems less stressed and more happy. Go Mariah. Hip hip hooray.

Left feeling sad (47,116) by Yu from Japan
I loved the show and tears started dropping a seconds after I saw her on stage yesterday. I was at my seat and still I doubted her appearance because there was no interview or any of that media coverage here in Japan. (I was comforted when I saw her Konnichiwa Tokyo message on her twitter but still there was no "Mariah arrives" news or coverage on TV.) She performed so many songs for us, almost too many for 2 hours. I felt she was in a rush, trying to take care of business. (I can hear her say "What do you want me to do?") I was just honored to be there to see her live, singing for us, I'd be happy even if she was just standing there, talking. But her eyes, the whole time, even with the makeup and you can see that her eyes were looking sad. And she edited him completely out from whatever you see at the show. Even on brochure, you don't see a trace of N. Even their Christmas photo with Santa, he was supposed to be there but no picture of him. And she put that Valentine, candy bra picture there (it was beautiful) but well, no him. You see images of dembabies with their beautiful and gorgeous mommy but no daddy. I thought she might edit "mommy daddy" voice out when she performed Supernatural but fortunately she didn't because she loves every bits of her babies and I love her for being a beautiful and loving mom. It's just too sad to see and know the fact that chapter was ending and going to the show, you'll know that for sure and I guess that's what making me feel extremely sad now.

The voice situation (47,115) by juan from Dubai
If we go back to Daydream Tour, there were some days of the tour where her voice was really not in shape. You can search it on YouTube, I believe it was L.A. She could not reach a high not. But last night, it was terrible. I am heart broken. I definitely want to hear her once in a while but with full healthy voice. She can lip-synch all she want, but when needed, it should be on point. Just like Beyonce's concerts. She lips most of the night but blows everyone when she freestyles. It was not good. ugh. I have high hopes for her. I still have the faith one day she blows everyone again.
