Re: Nobody wishes her to fail by Marcel from Canada (44,206)

When I read all the messages you've posted here, they are mostly very negative. I highly doubt you can call yourself a fan if you only like her the first 7 years and nothing she has done for the last 17 years. Maybe you're in denial, but I think you should face the truth: you're no longer a fan.

Nobody wishes her to fail (44,205)

At least I don't. Actually I wish nothing but the best for her. I said It's been 17 year without any good vocally song, and yes, to me and it's my opinion she lost it vocally and when you hear something ok like this latest album we all know she won't be able to perform it live in a good way like she used in her, sorry but, her golden years. "She's 45 don't expect her to..." yeah, sure, but first Céline is older and vocally perfect and not alone, just one example and seconnd Mariah was just a tender 27th when she suddenly lost it and we all know she barely tours or promote, her out-of-the-USA performances are lipped always since 97 and this was a 5 years period of doing nothing but relaxing almost all the time, still she was in need of electronically improving her vocals on this album, which by the way I said it was a good album just nothing spectacular and a let down to me once again, but thankfully I stayed short on my expectations so it wouldn't dissappoint me that much. About her writing, well, dumb lately and that's something most people say about her songs and then the ghetto slangs sometimes are. Don't like Miley but would've loved her to do a wrecking kind of tune or one of my fave artists Pink's Just Give Me A Reason track. I still come here after 17 years because I don't breath MC and my life is plenty with and without her. I have a life so I can hear this and still buy and "wait" but I won't be depressed nor crying to her songs. Never did, never will. Still a real fan, never a lamb.

The question I will ask later in this post may be way off and in fact might even be offensive to some of us, so I apologize in advance to anyone who may find it so as I don't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers. To say LA Reid has nailed it this time would be an understatement. It's hard enough to stage a comeback for an artist with a career that spans decades who is alive, which makes it even more impressive that he was able to mastermind the MJ fever revival almost 5 years after his death, especially following the relatively dismal performance of his first posthumous compilation of material. Not to mention the fans are actually pretty much divided about the idea of releasing music after his death, so that definitely was an added challenge. But still, he and his team pulled it off really well. Now my polarising question is this: hypothetically, when Mariah is gone, will you allow her team to release her records posthumously? Would you be one of those fans who would agree and lap them up because every bit of Mariah counts? Or would you be one of those who think those records didn't make the cut for good reasons and just would rather that they remain unreleased?

Listening to Memoirs (44,203)

I really enjoy listening to this one. This album had great opening sells because there was a hit named Obsessed. Is there a new video from Chanteuse yet? I don't even hear of any video shoot these couple of weeks.

Nothing good since 1997? (44,202)
by Alex from England
| |
|
|
I just can't sit this one out when I read that some people haven't heard anything good vocally since 1997 except for Lead The Way. I mean, sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion but I have one question then. Why still wait for Mariah to astound you for the past 17 years when she clearly no longer can. I mean, I do understand that her voice is not the same, that cannot be argued but saying that she hasn't put out anything good/amazing vocally in the past 17 years is just... I guess I just don't understand some people and what they actually expect. On another note, I've had the album on repeat for a week and now my mind is definitely made up. Favorites: YDKWTD, Heavenly, Faded, MILG and Meteorite. The ballads are definitely so 90's Mariah, I hope people asking her to give them a couple more ballads like the old days are happy, if not, you never will be. I like all the songs but I'll skip a couple of them in the long run but I can say she's given us a great body of work. I'm glad I never doubted her even though the leadup to the album was more than confusing. Welcome back Mariah, you're still the best.

More promo (44,201)

I feel like Mariah should have promoted the album more, going on more talk shows and more magazine interviews. I know she's done some but not enough imo, she needs to be everywhere. Maybe the sales would've been better then. Not that it matters that much to me, as long as the album's good.

Angels Advocate (44,200)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Does anybody else as well feel relieved that the Angels Advocate album didn't get released at all? I mean, all of the "remixed" songs from that album were barely even touched at all. Like somebody else mentioned here earlier, all of them stink of the same lazy "cut-and-paste" routine. It makes you even wonder how this whole idea of a remix album was even concieved in the first place, let alone considered. It had "legacy tarnishing" written all over it. It's funny because it's almost as if Mariah forgot what "remix" means - ironic, considering she was responsible for some of the most memorable remixes (dance or hip-hop) in the 90s. Of the 5 songs that were "remixed", I feel like only Ribbon with The-Dream and Ludacris was the only one where the original song structure was altered the most (and that's not saying a lot, because they still retained the beat, just removed the lazy drone in the background). Even worse, there was no trace of a resung vocal to be found in any of the supposedly "reworked" material. Thank God this was shut down because it definitely would have been a massive commercial flop following the already underwheming performance of its parent album. Plus, the critics would have never let us heard the end of it.

Me. I am Mariah (44,199)
by Robby from Norway

I would like to share my post in my FB. The long wait is over. Lambs around the world let's celebrate and say "Hail the queen and the voice isbBack. She is back. Mariah Carey has once again put out a great album." Yeah, the long wait is over and it's worth the wait. I have listened to the entire album, from "Cry." to "The Art of Letting Go" (since I have the deluxe edition in my iPhone) many times already and all I can say is perfection. You'll never press the skip button because each song is worth to listen. It's been a while since we heard from our Mimi and now here it is. A fresh music made specially by Mariah. She is not your diva who only sings but also writes her own songs, makes the melody, produces music and sometimes directs the video. If I am going to pick my top five songs from the album, it will be 1. "Dedicated" (ft. Nas) 2. "You Don't Know What to Do" (ft. Wale) 3. "Faded" 4. "Cry." 5. "Heavenly". Special mention to her cover of George Michael original, One More Try, she nailed it. Congrats Mariah.

Me I Am Mariah (44,197)
by Dan from US

They should never let it stream on iTunes Radio, sales would never been at a low for first week. I actually don't care what she sells anymore but it is nice to read positive things on such an amazing album. She needs promo like ASAP in the US lol. Hopefully she kicks JD and Def jam to the curb. They are not doing anything good for Mariah. I hope she realizes this. We don't even have a real single to request at radio, like common people.

First week predictions US (44,196)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |
|
|
Mariah's first week sales predictions are in, and it's looking terrible. Sales of 65-70k have been predicted based one one day sales. I love the album and this would never affect my opinion of it, but perhaps Mariah, JD and the rest of her team should stop asking fans to go "do it for MC" on twitter, and actually get out there and do the work themselves. I don't believe in making fans do the work. That's not our job, it's Mariah's. She has barely promoted this, and will now suffer gross humiliation in the press as a result, which is a shame. A legend like Mariah should not have to justify herself.

This album / bittersweet (44,195)
by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
| |
|
|
It's kind of an odd occasion, because it's so polarising. It seems like the straw that will break the camels back, cementing life long and always no matter what fandom or letting go and just appreciating what was. I do enjoy reading everyone's opinions (ok, a stretch of truth, I feel a bit uncomfortable reading really scathing, what I feel to be unfair reviews, but hey, I do accept completely that people do and often do haha have different opinions to mine). I just, I feel because for me this is one of, if not the greatest Mariah album (she has so many "greats" but this is probably what I would describe as the definitive MC album) that I thought everyone, especially fans, would love it. But instead it's almost like a "thank you for the years" album for some fans. I feel it's a little bittersweet and a little sad, but life is full of meetings and partings and I guess that's what this album represents. Which considering at one point it was supposedly going to be "The Art of Letting Go" is particularly fitting. Thanks for all the replies and again I really enjoy this message board. Now all is left for me is to enjoy this phenomenal gift that Mariah has produced for all of us, her fans.

You hit the nail on the head when you said Mariah isn't respected in songwriting because of her image. That's so true. Most people see Mariah as a diva ditzy dumb blonde. Even Mariah knows it. I wish people would look past the cleavage and diva stuff and just look at Mariah's sining and writing.

Outgrown Mariah (44,193)

I have read this a few times. That some say Mariah is just not doing it for them anymore, she can't give what they want etc. That is cool, for those it's time to move on and like others artists. What I don't get is why they still go on about it and even go as far as wishing Mariah to fail with this album. If you are done your are done, just leave. A lot of us just want to enjoy this era and experience it with each other, to see these messages in between just puts me in a unnecessary bad mood. I don't want to be disrespectful to anybody and yes everybody is entitled to their opinion but there is a time to say bye bye.

Sales / charts (44,191)
by cBerr from Canada

With regards to the article on Austin Mahone (or whatever his name is), since when does a 8-track EP [of which 2 tracks are listed as bonus tracks] qualify as an album? Maybe I don't know the rules for charting, but have EPs always been eligible for the BB200 Album Chart? Seems somewhat unfair. Before anyone accuses me of bias, I would feel this way regardless of the artist in question. It's unfair to all new releases; Mariah's, Coldplay's, MJ's or Sarah McLachlan's. All of which are full-length albums.

First post / thoughts on MIAM (44,190)
by cBerr from Canada
| |
|
|
Hey everyone. Found this site after the drama surrounding the MDJ (non-)closure, but wanted to wait until after the album release to combine my first post with my thoughts on the album. From top-to-bottom, I think this is a really solid release, maybe the closest to resembling "old-school" Mariah. (Even though I am not one of those who obsess over that sort of thing.) I'm proud of her growth/maturing as an artist and with regards to MIAM, I have not skipped a single track on this album and believe it is full of potential "singles" to help sales.

Read this somewhere, please dont be true (44,189)
by Nicole from US

Is this even true? From hitsdailydouble according to the article. I am promoting it at school and facebook galore. From headlineplanet.com. Mariah Carey's "Elusive Chanteuse" album sales pacing for 65-70K by Brian Cantor. May 27, 2014 Thus far, Mariah Carey's "Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" has been eluding record buyers. According to Hits Daily Double, the diva's latest release is tracking for an opening week total of just 65-70,000. While the impact of Memorial Day might be stunting early purchasing, which would in turn produce an unfairly pessimistic forecast, it is clear the album is not pacing to be a blockbuster. "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel", the album's 2009 predecessor, opened to a considerably strong sum of 168,000. And insofar as that tally was down significantly from the 463,000 moved by 2008's "E=MC2", it was hardly considered a rousing success. Despite the soft forecast, Carey's album will likely reign as the week's top newcomer. Austin Mahone's "The Secret" EP is pacing for 50-55,000, while Cher Lloyd's "Sorry I'm Late" is on track for 17-20,000 opening week sales.

#1 album, an important goal, but I want #1 hits (44,188)
by LJ Vespertine from USA
| |
|
|
I know that Mariah's album is #2 on the Billboard charts right now, and I'm hoping it'll shoot to #1 by the end of the week. But even if her album stays at #2, that is still an amazing accomplishment. Maybe I'm weird, but my focus is really on hoping that this album produces at least three #1 hits. I think her label and the other powers that really be dropped with ball with E=MC2 and Memoirs because both albums could have had additional hits if additional singles had been released and promoted properly. I think that Mariah would have had additional top 10 hits and maybe even one or two more #1's from those albums with the right promotion. I really hope that they do better promoting and caring for this album because I want Mariah to be the artist with the most #1 hits, ahead of the Beatles.

Listening to the (standard) CD now (44,187)
by LJ Vespertine from USA
| |
|
|
I loved Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, so I'm not sure what to expect with this one. What I mean is, I'm Team Mariah all day anyway, but I enjoy Memoirs so much that I don't know that any other album could come close, although E=MC2 is damn good. I love MC's music, so I always want more, more, more. Mariah is the only artist whose music I like and respect enough to buy completely unheard (except for songs already released, of course). That said, this is the first album of hers that had an available deluxe version that I've bought the standard one. That decision was based solely on the fact that there is a track with R. Kelly on the deluxe CD. It kind of broke my heart because as much as I wanted the deluxe version, I cannot in any way support or contribute to R. Kelly's career or income. I was disappointed to see him on her album because it quite literally meant I had to decide between an artist whom I respect and admire to the utmost, and an artist for whom I have great disdain. Yes, I know that many people will/do not agree and certainly there are other entertainers out there with problematic biographies, but we all have our lines in the sand, deal breakers, causes we support, and/or people we dislike or avoid. R. Kelly is a person whom I avoid. Other than that minor blemish (for me), I'm thrilled to have another Mariah CD in hand, and I'll be up most of the night listening to it.

Randy and Lee; thanks (44,185)
by Marcel from Montréal, Canada

I guess I've found in you both a bit of me and it's sad at the same time because it means a lot of us are kind of lefting and being let down by her. I haven't heard anything by her that's good enough since 97. Just Lead The Way was good vocally but once again that song was recorded back in 97 when she still had the voice and paired with Walter. In this last album I feel like she tried to sound well but couldn't even with the big help she got from Apple's pro-tools and such. There are good songs in here but nothing spectacular and her vocals are really poor. She's screaming not belting and the nasal sound in her timbre is agh. I wish her the best and applaud she somehow tried still she says one thing to do the other. She says she listens when she doesn't. We've been asking her to grow up, to dress properly, act her age, go back to basics, Walter, Babyface, etc., and she just doesn't care then why should we? She's fortunate to have us as fans all of us who've been left down for 17 years and still waiting and buying everything. By the way, after pre-ordering and paying for the deluxe and downloading it, I had to pay iTunes again for the tracks I had already bought (TAOLG, #B, YM) to "complete the album" and still didn't received the booklet. Anyway. If I want a terrific intro to a song I can hear So Cold, for real gospel I can cling to ATYNAF - IIO, for ballads there are plenty up-to 97 songs, this album tried to revisit but fell short.

Mariah's fans are amazing (44,184)

Wow. I love the fact that there are people who really love MIAM and there are those who really hate it. What's interesting is these two groups of people still call themselves fans. It goes without saying that her fans still listen to her music no matter what. I've heard a lot of artists whose drastic decisions in music have caused them to lose half of their fans. In Mariah's case, that never happened.

But, I finally get it. She's combining all the genres she's ever done, but teaming them up with music that's been her favorite since she was little, along with the vocal stylings she's used throughout the years. In addition, this is why America the Beautiful is on the album. This was her first ever appearance televised live singing ATB in a stadium while she was still unknown. Memoirs chronicled her life in song, while this chronicled her love and life in music. In other tid bits, I really hope this doesn't make sense in a few weeks. #4, "relying on past favors", "restrictive assistance with strings attached", "unfavorable outside circumstance". I hope she does promo using her own imaginative ideas.

The best of the best / Anthony Basco (44,182)
by Tarraga from New York City

1. Dedicated is everything. This song is, by far, the best song Mariah has ever done. It's one of those songs that you would play while cuddling with your hubby on the sofa or at the beach on a summer night. Timeless. So 90's. 2. Money: This song is f**** hot tamale. Perfect song to listen to while on vacation with your papi/mami (Capri, Ibiza, Santorini, you name it), or with friends on a shopping day. 3. Meteorite: In the good old days of Christopher Street's gay clubs this would make Madonna fans turn into lambs. Lol. Drags will definitely make it a gay club hymn. Yay. 4. YDKWTD: I picture myself on a club with friends dancing like crazy. Another gem. 5. Camouflage: This song is everything times 2. Raw emotions. Mariah's most personal song on the album and definitely my favorite. 6. MILG: Perfect to listen to during those long summer promenades while grabbing hands with your lover. Anthony, thanks for the reply. It seems that we have a very similar taste. I am glad that other fans feel the same way I feel about Mariah's music.
