Bill / buzz singles (43,626)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Lol well JD's words not mine. Infact I agree with you, I wrote several days back that everytime a single doesn't do well (and mostly due to lack of promotion) it is labelled a buzz single by Mariah's team. Like TAOLG, Triumphant. I mentioned before, if TAOLG wasn't meant to be a proper single, why bother with making a "unprecedented" worldwide same day release and give it a better cover than all the other covers of the album and singles. Even YME didn't get a good cover. Now that YM didn't perform upto mark, JD said it's a buzz single. Which is silly. They are trying to make it that #B is the first single, Thirsty (with a potential to crack top 10) is the second, so that all the under performing singles do not bring down the image of the overall album. So yes, I am with you on this topic. But I did love all the singles she released.

Amen, this is exactly what I mean. She has so many types of songs/music so everybody has their pick when she releases her art and craft. That's why I think that people should just come down from their "I don't like this song". She gave us a few different kind off songs this past year, for every taste and type she had something great. She is one of the few artists still out there that is so versatile. Respect her as an artist, respect her vision and brighten yours. She deserves so much more than what she is getting at the moment from her fans, she gave us so much for more than 2 decades and what do a lot do? Bring her down the minute the song is not up to their taste or expectation. Some of you are just that thirsty.

Mimi L / buzz singles (43,621)
by Bill from the UK

Lol, sorry but is "buzz" now a trendy word for "flop"? I find it funny how Triumphant, TAOLG and now You're Mine are being designated as buzz singles because they didn't impact any charts. TAOLG I can believe, but the others, no way. If Triumphant had been a runaway success and a number one hit for 15 weeks running, the album would have been out last year and you all would be singing its praises. If it has a video produced, comes with remixes and is available to buy (and therefore chart), it's a single. This hasn't been Mariah's best string of singles (chart wise), but these excuses are becoming tired now. I love Thirsty.

Thirsty, different songs (43,620)
by Joe from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I actually have not posted here in awhile, since then a bunch of new faces have appeared and that whole saga with that Issac guy came to an end. Anyway this is how I feel about Thirsty. I love the song, I can understand why some people might not like it, but I love it because it's really catchy and it sounds current, but still has Mariah's style on it. Songs I've liked the most so far are #Beautiful, Almost Home and Thirsty. I didn't really like TAOLG and YME was ok and it struck me that the songs I've liked the most are the one's she did with different producers. I like her past work with JD but sometimes now when they do a song together it sounds slightly dated or like another We Belong Together (YME). I just want her to keep evolving and branching out musically. If I don't like a song I say I'm not feeling it I move on and hopefully I'll like the next one. To the people who want the same style songs from the 90's, it's quite simple, go and listen to those songs. That's what I do if I want 90's Mariah, I go listen to it. If I want hip-hop Mimi, I go listen to that. Just saying.

Thirsty (43,619)
by Edu from USA

I have to join the club of lambs that aren't feeling it for Thirsty. I agree that in terms of commercial appeal she needed to release a club banger but I just don't see this song rising above the competition and it is just not growing on me either. I'm just sad because I know Mariah wants that 19th #1 as much as we want to give it to her, but I really doubt this song will be it. It is already proven to be very divisive. Honestly, I'm ready for the next single and I really hope she has a better club banger than this one in the album.

Thirsty (43,618)

I don't care what people say, Thirsty combined with the new iTunes banner got Mariah's album back in the iTunes top 40 US album charts. So imagine if this song is properly released and promoted, how great it would be for the album. I'm a little worried though that is Mariah not going to release this a proper single. JD did say that this is the second official single, the first being #B. The rest are buzz singles. So I do hope there is a proper release and a banging video to accompany it. Like somebody else wrote, the video should be matured and hot like it's like that and get your number. I think TEOM has some of her best videos along with Butterfly. I also agree with Gilles, Triumphant is hated collectively by lambs whereas many non lambs love it. I really like it too. It is a great song and had a great video. The only thing disappointing was that it was released then as a lead single and was Mariah's first single after Memoirs and yet she had little parts. So maybe it's not great for a lead single after waiting for 3 years, but in all I really like the song.

I love this song. For me it was catchy from the first listen and it's just an adorable song. #Beautiful took a while to grow on me. I think it's a lot better than Migrate. To be honest, that's the only song I ever skip on E=MC2. Thirsty is such a fun catchy song. Love love love it.

I haven't heard the song yet. I will listen to it when it becomes available for download, since I've been hearing many people saying that the version on the internet is high pitched. My expectation isn't set too high, so I'm not rushing either. Most people love #Beautiful, but this one has even been compared to Triumphant which makes me worried.

Amen, brother Gilles from Malta (43,615)

As long as I have been posting here, and anyplace else I reference Mariah, Iv'e always spoken about, since the Butterfly era, how she didn't "sing" the same. It bothered me that she didn't allow herself to be directed by Tommy, which clearly (IMO) had a successful vision and formula for her. After she left, her music took on so many different attributes and expanded over so many genres and, I just wanted her to "sing" sing; to belt out tunes like she used to, and did so majestfully, for example, in Never Forget You. But you are right to the freaking penny. She gave "each" and every one of us what we want. I am old school, and you were right. I loved TAOLG so much. Despite its lack of success. I love the ballads, I loved YM(E). She gives a little bit to everyone and she loves creating all of it. I was so against this song and thought it was a horrible choice, but soon noticed that so many people really liked it. Then your post got me thinking. I, and other like me, am the idiot that barricades my tastes and senses from expanding and appreciating the individual beauty of such opposing styles. She has that ability. Hence, the fact that she is there, and I am here. Well, that and a couple other factors. Lol. Brother Gilles, you have given me an epiphany and, after 24 years of loving our queen, I can honestly say, I have re-evaluated my relationship with Mariah and I see her in a whole new light. I'm "ready" for this album, so much more, thanks to you bro Gilles. Thank you.

Re: two versions of "Thirsty" (43,614)
by Dani from USA

I prefer the one without Rich Homie Quan's verses. They're a little too lewd for my taste, and for some reason, the rap doesn't mesh well with the rest of the song. It sounds out of place, in my opinion. Has anyone else noticed that? In any case, the radio rip that's roaming around on the internet is of bad quality. I think they should have just released the version that's on Revolt. I think MC's management should have also put out a lyric video. The whole thirsty/champagne concept would fare quite well in a lyric video, in my opinion. And on a sidenote: I think the song is about Nick. There's that one line about the Tom Fords. Didn't Nick buy a million-dollar pair of diamond-encrusted Tom Fords? I wish there was an official release of the lyric video, honestly. I couldn't make out all the words from the song, especially at the end when MC sings something about "Cassidy". Does anyone know anything about that?

There's no need to say anything else, you said it all. Equals MC noway, she does all kinds of music (so maybe not please everyone). Also there's no why be comparing MC with success of other young artists, unfortunately many (no generalizing) like them, not their talent, but because it's a trend. MC has been a trend, but behind had talent, great talent, which is reflected today.

Thirsty review (43,608)
by Gilles from Malta
| |
|
|
I love it because I have always been in the hip hop and R&B music. Regarding the choice of the single, do you really think that Mariah had the choice lol? She didn't stop fighting with Island Def Jam. Regarding Thirsty, it is like the music label named Strange Music and Tech9 ( the best actual hip hop music label of our erea). People who are not into real hiphop and independant label can not understand. Thirsty is made to have an impact for everyone and to promote her to the world to make money. People who love MC for her ballads had You're Mine. People who love Mariah classic had The Art Of Letting Go. People who like pop had Beautiful. Regarding Triumphant, it is funny because people who do not really like MC love it lol. I just want to say that we are extremely lucky that Mariah is a talented artist and that she is able to offer to everybody a different type of music. Do not be selfish, that album is for everyone. And keep in mind, new album means business. It is her last record to Island Def Jam. So support her, she really diserve it.

All we need now is a grown and sexy banging video (ah la "Its Like That") to drop right before the album and I think we got ourselves another big hit (in my Randy Jackson voice). We wanted an energetic club banger and ladies and gents that's exactly what she gave us. Well done Mimi, lets go get em.

I feel like I don't even want to come to this site again for a very long time. The negativity is getting stupid. Whether you're serious or just trolling, it's ruining experiences for true fans like myself. So you've really done it now. I support Mariah 100% and you people make no sense to me. I wish there was a blog where everyone was optimistic. I'd pay to see you say your words to Mariah's face. She's proud of what she's accomplished. To the lambs, I love you and cherish you, but I must go for a while, these negative "critics" are not worth my time.

Damizza and Mark (43,605)

Could someone please fill me in on the beef with Dammiza Mark Sudack and Mariah? I looked it up on some websites but didn't find enough info to figure out what it was about. I'd really like to know because apparently the song could be about either one of them. [Webmaster: It always hurts when someone looks it up on other websites, but not on this website. I've spend hours each day for the last 16 years updating this website. There are 11.836 news articles on this website, and if you searched "Damizza", you will find many articles about their arguments.]

Mixed reviews (43,604)
by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
| |
|
|
I've been reading reviews of Mariah's new single Thirsty on this messageboard and other websites, and it is clear that this song generates mixed reviews. Some love it, some hate it and some don't care. There's nothing wrong with this, not everyone has the same taste in music. What bothers me are the fans who say Mariah has lost it, that she can't make quality music, that all her songs suck. Well, that's just your opinion. I'm well aware that Mariah these days sell less albums. Is this because of the quality of her songs? I don't think so, I think it is because Mariah has evolved to a different genre that less people like. Some of the best songs (according to me) of other artists were big flops, but I still adore these songs. What I'm trying to say, just because you don't like some songs doesn't mean the artist isn't talented. I don't like country, metal, hard rock, jazz, etc, but that doesn't mean I think these artists are less talented than others. If you don't like the music Mariah makes these days, there is a simple solution: don't listen to the new songs.

Thirsty for champagne (43,603)
by Eternal from Italy
| |
|
|
The sound of a bottle of champagne being opened and poured into a glass as the opening of Thirsty really aptly describes this whole Me. I Am Mariah era. It couldn't be more accurate. Isn't Mariah always thirsty for some champagne whenever she shows up for an interview these days? The song title is actually kinda funny. Like a self mockery in a way. I woke up this morning singing "uh I'm thirsty, uh I'm hungry". The video possibilities are endless with a song title like that. I hope that if she does release it as a single, she doesn't just sit around moaning "I'm thirsty" while touching herself in a million places lol.

Great single (43,602)
by S from England
| |
|
|
Is there something wrong with lambs? They want an up-tempo radio/club friendly song. Oh no, now they want a ballad. Oh now they want a jazz themed song. Just stop. The song is great, it's a hit and it's nice and catchy. Some of you have a nerve to be comparing it to Triumphant. Just don't please. Great choice Mariah, and I know that with or without the support of the immediate lamb community, this song will definitely reach the top 20 if not higher. Good effort Mimi - 7.5/10.

Oh why? (43,600)
by George Golden from UK
| |
|
|
Oh why? This is her worst song ever. What is going on? Is this the same Mariah that sang Hero, Vison of love, Anytime you need a friend? What is she singing? She is getting worse. Please protect your legacy and stop this crap music. I listened to the song again today and all I could do was cringe. Truimphant was a million times better than this song. I guess with this new song people can now see why she added three songs from her last album, there's just no inspiration. Ever since 1997 when she started this hip hop thing it has just been downhill. I am already cringing thinking of what the video will be like. Mariah is loosing it big time right before our eyes and she will be the last person to know it. Sad.

Thirsty (43,599)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |
|
|
Thirsty is an absolute banger. Exactly what this album needed before its release. Judging from what I've heard thus far, I suspect Mariah is going to try to maintain a balance on this album, between classic ballads such as One More Try, mid-tempos like #Beautiful and the more hip hop infused numbers, such as Thirsty.
