Petals (42,845)
by Philipp from Switzerland
| |
|
|
While everyone is anticipating the new album, I listened to "Petals" again today and I just realized again why it still is one of my favourite Mariah songs. It's so honest and beautifully written. I can't get over it. I watched some YouTube clips from the Rainbow tour where she performed Petals live, especially the clip from San Jose gets me, the way she starts to cry during the song but keeps on singing is just so emotional. So, don't worry, the new album will come. And in the meantime, listen to "Petals".

I totally agree with on the matter of that song. It should have been a hit, and I don't understand why it wasn't. It has got the most amazing vocal, full of emotions and a captivating melody. Moreover, it's totally different from Mariah's mainstream songs. I also hope we will get similar songs on the new album.

You're so right and yes he did. I've seen the clip of that when I was studying the illuminati in the music industry. If you pay attention reflecting back to what you said about the AMA performers, a lot of the performances they do are rituals to satan but a lot of people say no it's just entertainment etc but it really isn't. It's dark and it's evil and it attacks, feeds on our conscience without realizing it. I'm not trying to preach to anyone here but it's just to realize that it does exist and those who don't involve themselves in that are the ones who struggle. Look at Kelly Clarkson and issues with Clive Davis. I've YouTubed him and that man is pure evil.

It's interesting seeing everybody's reaction (or over reaction) to the album's release date. Even going so far as to attack JD in public and write "open letters" to Mariah. Whatever next? All take a step back. May 6 hasn't even arrived yet. Wait and see what happens and if come the morning of May 7th nothing materialised, then you can all start your complaining and your demands for information. Some of you just need to take a chill pill.

I see MC and Jermaine Dupri laid-back and laughing, browsing silly tweets over a splash of rosé and a jay holding back what they're dying to say while lambs nearly die in wait for as much as the album's name.

Hi Darryle. US albums are usually released on a Tuesday and always have been. European albums are always out on Mondays which is why Europe get the album first. Australia is usually the last to get anything unfortunately. As for the bonus tracks, it is often cheaper for Japanese consumers to import the album from another country, so to encourage them to buy the version produced in their country to support their economy, bonus tracks are added to act as an incentive to spend more money on the album than they would if they were to import it.

Anyone else feel like this could and should have been a hit? I'm so grateful we got this song. I love when I'm on a run and it pops up on my playlist. Super motivating. Not to mention she sounds unbelievable on it. Anyone who doubts she still has "the voice" just needs to listen to that. I hope we get more songs in that vein on the new album.

Mariah's new album (42,837)

I would say just one single thing. Leave Mariah in peace and her staff as well. Stop being hooked on the web because you are going to find a lot of fake news. Be patient and just wait for it. The album is on its way so do not worry and be happy.

G.G. I agree with you, if not any details Mariah can atleast write something addressing the fans. Instead she is completely ignoring us. I love Mariah, but this is annoying me to the extreme. With about 2 weeks left, we are left blank. Why did she suddenly decide to pull a Beyonce? (Assuming that's what all the silence is about.) Why announce a date and then disappear and let websites do mysterious things like pulling out the album release from the listings and all. I can't say I'll ignore the album when it comes out, because God knows I love Mariah's work, but this is no way to treat fans. Lets not be blind, Mariah isn't as relevant today as she used to be, and if she starts enraging her remaining fans, it wouldn't be a good move. I hope to God, Mariah does something and makes all the wait and patience worth it.

Funny, I was just sending through the same type of message and saw your response to David right after I sent it through. I 100% believe there is a lot of evil and darkness in this industry. Mariah herself alluded to that during a Larry King interview once as did Chaka Khan during the tragic loss of Whitney. It is a business and a powerful one at that. Look at Lady GaGa. How dark her videos were, her dark strange MTV performances and all her awards, then she broke her hip or something and her latest album was not what her last ones were and she said the record co did not back her at all and were heartless. If you notice all the MTV video awards shows pay homage to the same artists. Mariah was never really included in that bunch. Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Nikki Minaj, Lady Gaga, they all seemed to rule those award shows. MC never needed that though. I love how she started true to herself. I hope she never feels the need to go down that path. I don't know how many people agree with me but I do believe the music industry is a tough one to be in. I remember Michael Jackson saying it was evil too. I believe he called Tommy Mottola the devil.

Current artists and industry, davidf (42,831)
by Mara from United States

Davidf, you made some good points. I am just glad MC never jumped on that boat. She made her success in a respectful way. Yeah she likes to dress sexy but never in a raunchy way if you know what I mean. Some of the artists out there today, especially most of the ones topping the charts (and the ones our kids are being influenced by) have such a darkness about them, very sexual and the lyrics are just evil. I don't know why the artists today feel the need for such dark evil looking videos either. So you see MC with a glass of champagne, ok but most stories or pics about her are with her family. Even before the kids, she got where she is with songs like Hero, songs that are respectable. She has nothing to be ashamed of when her kids look and listen to her catalog and career. I can honestly say I am proud of that, being a Mariah Carey fan for 24 years. As far as the album, as I said before. I really feel like she is nervous. The pressure she must feel I can't even imagine for this album. The world is watching and waiting for a hit or fail. Every press article states how it's been 4 years. She knows her last 4 singles were not the chart toppers she wanted. I will just be happy with new material on a complete album from start to finish that I can listen to. When she is ready, we will hear it.

Thank you David for that message. I'm glad to see someone agrees with me or at least is able to see that evil does exist in the music industry. Lately I've been thinking Mariah should add a couple of songs about the Lord on her album, she always thanks God and she has some songs here and there but I think a couple of songs would be a blessing for anyone going through a rough time. None of us know the struggle she might be going through in this industry and as I said before and I'll say it again. I really hope she doesn't get involved in that industry to sell herself out just so she can stay on top.

Ok (42,828)

You're right, MC doesn't owe any of us anything, and in return we do not owe her our blind support any longer. If you make the huge mistake of alienating, irritating and disrespecting your die hard core fan base, that's not good for business. After all, it is the music business, emphasis on the word business. I have never felt this way before about MC. But that tweet she made about Debbie Allen's group just was too much. She knows that we are all wondering what's going on and instead of telling us to "hold on" or "be patient, a surprise is coming", she tweets about another group? Purposely ignoring fans is not building excitement for me or, it is making me annoyed.

Release dates (42,826)
by Darryle from USA

Does anyone know why different countries get later or earlier release dates of the albums. Like Europe normally gets them first and US somewhere in the middle. Why is that when most of her sales come from the US anyway? Also why does Japan get bonus tracks when US doesn't? They got 4real4real and Heat and America got the standard edition.

You post here as if MC owes you anything. If you don't want to buy the album because it's delayed, then don't. No one's forcing you to. But coming here and saying she treats you like trash and all sorts of name-calling, just because she don't deliver to your demands as a fan, then you really need to re-evaluate your life. I'm one who is critical of MC's decisions often. But some of you take too to the gutter. MC's album will arrive. Is it delayed? Sure. Am I upset? You bet. But MC does not owe me anything. It is my choice and my choice as a fan. I don't expect her to work for me. Geez, some of you need to chill a bit and smell the roses.

Edward (42,824)
by Eternal from Italy

I get your point, Edward. She's Mariah Carey, she has someone to attend to every single aspect of her life, she hires and fires nannies in the blink of en eye, she's worth 500 million bucks and she doesn't even need to really sing live any more to continue rolling in those dollars. Could this be why she has lost interest in it all? She usually slims down in time for an album release, she did it with TEOM and E=MC2 (though I will never know how celebs can gain and lose so much weight in a matter of weeks). This time around she just looks even bigger than when she was pregnant. The thing about having kids for a celebrity like her is not in doing household chores; your perspective on life is what changes. You just subconsciously shift everything else to second place. All the new parents I know, their social life changes dramatically, even with just one kid. A new parent would probably fret more over if their kid falls sick, then if they've finished their new album in time or not. She doesn't care about it, and she's just peacefully letting JD take all the blame while sipping her pink champagne. That doesn't really speak well of her professionalism and her work ethic, considering that she used to work her socks off and that's why she managed to accumulate all those millions in the first place. What can we do, if she herself doesn't care? Maybe we should start caring about our own lives more than hers, and listen to her younger peers more.

Thank you Randy, you made good points. I feel similar to you in the sense that I've loved Mariah since I was a teen. I am 35 years now. I follow her career but not as when I was 11. I used to have all the time in the world. I have to think about my reality (rent, bills, student loans, family). Mariah has her family and kids to care. She is 44, not 20 anymore. She had an album every year for most of the 90's. Yes, she is a singer but this is show business. Now, she has other modes of income (perfume, endorsements , etc). If I had the money and comfort to raise my children like her and enjoy them, I would. She gave us 20 good years of her attention. Now, her babies need her attention, especially growing up in this business.

New industry (42,817)
by David F from Mexico

Mariah saves souls and she is certainly God sent, today's industry is about sending souls to hell. Listen carefully to this generation of artists, they are manipulated, otherwise there's no lasting for them. Check out there are talented artists who are not supported because they want them to do something evil bad messages ínside the songs, but they refuse because good singing comes from God. Remember who Beyonce is married to, I hope Mariah never stops being who she is, but it could all end. Only the good God will guide her and my love for her will always last despite the good numbers because it's not easy to sell your soul in order to be on top. Fans do research evil exists if you love her, embrace whatever she comes with and enjoy her she is of our days.

Not buying the album? (42,815)
by Trish from USA

I think it's important to remind ourselves that there are real problems in the world and not knowing exactly when the next Mariah Carey album is coming out isn't one of them. Lol, I'm frustrated too but I keep trying to remind myself to keep it in check. Reading on here that someone isn't going to buy an album if it's pushed back again made me laugh. I could never not buy a Mariah album. She makes the best complete albums, always has. I hope we get it soon and I hope the duet with Stevie is classic, with good lyrics. (I've been waiting for a Mariah/Stevie duet *all my life*.)

My opinion on new MC (42,812)
by Andy Lamont from USA
| |
|
|
We as fans/lambs need to understand that Mariah's name is not as popular as it was 10-20 years ago. There is always going to be bigger "better" competition coming for her throne, I mean Rihanna and Katy Perry have both unfortunately beat Mariah records recently. She's not able to pull off the sex appeal she once had, that these younger girls now have, now I'm not saying I agree but lets be honest, she's a mom and 44. Now my whole explanation for that was yes, she's been working on this album for 5 years almost but she really has got to make her next move very wisely to regain her name as the queen again. In terms of appealing to the younger fans, and her day 1 lambs. The creative process cannot be rushed, I say that because Memoirs to me is her worst album ever (IMO) and she kinda started to go downhill from there with not so catchy lyrics, and just terrible songs. As bad as I want this album and as mad as it makes me sometimes, I'd rather wait for one really good album that worthless 20$ down the drain of my money. Mariah has competition but we all know she has none (if that makes sense lol). She needs another hit and to her I say take as long as you can untill you find that next Fantasy or Dreamlover because we need you back MC full force.

Amused (42,811)
by Randy from USA

This entire thing is amusing to me. To see all of the die hard fans get so worked up over the album release is interesting because it means that the people most loyal are starting to get irritated and you never irritate your fan base. But there is a part of me that snickers at the nuclear holocaust that some of you are predicting if the album doesn't come out on time. It makes me wonder if some of you don't have anything else going on in your lives? Am I wrong for thinking like that? There was a time when I was outside of Sam Goody at 9:58 on a weekday to buy Rainbow the day it came out and the year before that I had a Walmart employee open all the boxes in electronics on November 17, 1998 to get my copy of #1s. But now that I'm in my mid 30s, yeah I'll be annoyed if MC releases this album late but I'm really sitting back waiting to laugh at the fan reaction as well as the lame excuse that she comes up with. I will agree with 90% of you that a silent release is not going to work for her and that this is the messiest she has ever been as far as a lead single choice or promotion. I can't believe this is all happening, but just as MC has put her family first career second, I think some of you need to put your family first, career second, and MC's album release third.
