Classic signature songs (39,407)
by RadChad from United States
| |
I would agree that MC's evergreens/signature songs would be: 1) Hero - That song was like an epidemic of its time sung at many graduations across the country (including mine). Someone said it best when they mentioned how recognizable the piano melody is before a note is even uttered. 2) We Belong Together - The career reviving and redefining song, she simply struck a chord with the nation with this antheme. Classic example of perfect song and perfect timing. 3) All I Want For Christmas (Is You) - This song will probably outlast every song on the list. Simply because it's rare that we get a modern day Christmas classic and this song has already stood the test of time. 4) Always Be My Baby - I've encoutered many non lambs that love and remember this song and quite often name it as their "favorite Mariah Carey song". Honorable mentions: Vision Of Love - Everyone born from 1985 on up would probably say this is THE signature song. (IMO it's her signature.) Breakdown - Just as Always Be My Baby, many non lambs particularly in the urban community (from my observation) has praise this song, saying they think it's her best.

Mariah 2014 for massive impact in the first quarter (39,406)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
Hey lambs. I really feel that we won't get a new single or album until January 2014 (single) and March 2014 (album). I say this because: Why would Mariah Carey release any new music during the last three months of the year? There is not enough time now to promote and maximize album sales. I really feel her new team has decided to wait for a huge single debut at the first of the year. She will have a massive TV/radio campaign that will lead into the album's release. I am sure her team will come up with something like Justin Timberlake did at the Grammys and on Jimmy Fallon. And forget about the album being title "The Art Of Letting Go". The song may be great, but not a title for Mariah to reclaim her throne. She needs a title that will stick in the minds of the listening public. So if it means I have to wait until January for new music, then I am willing to give Mariah that support to put out some great music next year. Do you think my gut feeling is right?

Signature songs (39,404)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |
1. Butterfly (unique in terms of lyrics (metaphorical) and vocals wise, extremely difficult; "Butterfly, my signature song", Mariah said, TAOM, 2006) 2. Hero (anthem of millions of people, and a usual concert stopper) 3. We Belong Together (universal hit, career-defining and reviving) 4. All I Want For Christmas Is You (Mariah is simply the queen of festivities esp. Christmas; #1 every year)

Signature song and influence (39,403)
by Joe from United Kingdom
| |
I kinda have to agree that [...] is [...] signature song. I mean, seriously all people have to hear is the first couple notes from the piano in the beginning and people know what song it's gonna be before she even sings one lyric. I do think the same could be said for [...] aswell though because that song will live for every Christmas that comes by so it's definitely out of those two for sure. I think it's amazing that songs she wrote nearly 20 years ago can still stand the test of time thats what sets her apart from the other diva's in my opinion because she has actually written or co-written nearly all her classics. I notice alot of the public (non-fans) tend to look down upon her or act as if she is not relevant at all when in fact most who have came after her were in some way influenced by her. I mean, there are young female singers out now who have basically tried to replicate her whole vocal style. No names shall be mentioned. Lol.

Mariah's signature song (39,402)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
In my opinion, is "Hero". It's also the song she's performed the most and most people that don't necessarily like or even know her just automatically know that song almost as if it's a good old regular hymn sung in church. Quite baffling too. If that's not the definition of an evergreen, I don't what is.

Evergreens? (39,400)
by nikki from usa
| |
I honestly don't know how everyone did on a universal level. I do agree on MC's Christmas song as it was huge here and in Asia for sure and I think it did well in Europe. But, as for the rest of MC's hits, it really has to do more with location. Without You did well overseas, but didn't impact much here. I'll Be There did though. On the radio "today" I still here One Sweet Day, Hero, IBT, WBT, Always Be My Baby, Emotions, and believe it or not: Can't Let Go. On the R&B throwbacks they still play Fantasy and Dreamlover. Up north it's still ABMB and I'll Be There. I haven't heard Like A Virgin or Vogue since the '90's. The only Madonna songs that still play are Like A Prayer and Take a Bow. I'm sure that would differ by location around the US and I would assume world wide. I only play the lite fm radio when my daughter's around so she knows who Mariah is and sings ABMB, but she doesn't know who Madonna is. She's also familiar with Whitney, but not Celine. If "evergreens" refer to the history books, MC has many, but if we're referring to "still heard on radio today", it would depend on location.

JD as her new manager (39,399)
by Licia from USA
| |
I don't know if it will work as far as management, but nobody can deny the magic they make in the studio. I hope it all works out. I'm not going to sit here and act like I'm an expert and I know what will work and what won't work. I actually don't really care. I never cared about her management team back in the day and I don't care now. I just want a good album.

JD as new manager (39,398)
by VeliJames from Swaziland
| |
No, no, no. Regardless of how much expertise he may have in the industry, he simply can't manage an artist of Mariah's level. With his financial troubles, it simply wouldn't look good for Mariah to have someone like that managing her. What happened to her managing herself, I thought was why she split with the brilliant Benny Medina in the first place, so could manage herself? Regardless of how great the new album is, without top notch management it's no going to sell much. That is the bottom line after all.

JD as manager (39,397)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |

Lol. All I can do at this point is lol. I don't believe it. The article has a serious error re AIWFCIY, so I'm inclined to believe it's rubbish. If not, Mariah seems determined to write a career obituary. At this point in her career she needs serious, credible and a successful management team. A business brain most certainly needs to be on when making a management decision.

Somehow I doubt this, especially when the article also said he wrote her Christmas classic "All I want for Christmas is you". Lol. If it's true, it's probably just something like what Randy did: paid friend and musical advisor. Mariah has many different managers.

All the misinformation / new era (39,395)
by RadChad from United States
| |
Okay, I'm glad someone pointed out that JD didn't write AIWFCIY, he produced the SoSo Def remix, which does jam, but had nothing to do with the original. That was all Mariah and Walter. Also I read that it was actually Usher that insisted Mariah sing WBT in full voice. Unless I misread the article, but I'm almost certain it was Usher, JD was probably in agreement though. Just thought I'd clear those things up. I'm not sure about JD managing Mariah, musically they are phenomenal together and I think he's in touch with the fans and knows what we want from her, but promotion wise like someone mentioned he never managed an artist on Mariah's level, so we'll see. If he could dedicate all his time and attention to this new era, then I would like to think that he could do her justice. We'll see.

JD as new manager (39,394)
by Joe from United Kingdom
| |
I hope this news of JD managing Mariah is not true. When Randy was her manager, I felt the same way. I just didn't get it. I'm slowly losing faith in this era in terms of it actually being a success. I'm trying not to, but I feel like #Beautiful was her moment and she should of grabbed it. I'll always look forward to and await new music, wether it be a success or not, but unless she can find a producer who can create something fresh sounding but still appealing to her older long term fans, I don't really see a huge success happening. Sorry. I may be proven wrong though hopefully. I just don't see the same type of hip hop collaborations or "We belong together part 13" really doing it. It's been done already, people want a suprise, she doesn't have to start following trends, but just for her to reach out of her comfort zone abit that's all.

Dupri and MC (39,393)
by Stacey from USA
| |
I'm willing to see this one out before making a judgement. Randy is a great guy, and no doubt knows the music business, but JD has worked closely with Mariah musically for years, producing some amazing songs. So, I'm inclined to say let's give it a chance. My only reservation is MC needs people around her willing to say "no". JD has done that in the past. He's the one who insisted WBT be sung with full voice vocals. I remember reading somewhere MC wanted the whisper and JD said no. If that's the case, then maybe him managing her will be a good thing. Only time will tell.

Signature song (39,391)
by Blake from USA
| |
It is the most performed, especially at the fan's request. Everybody knows it's "Hero". A holiday song is not it, no matter how much it sells each year. Mariah performs this at tragedy events, and her encore usually. This is the song that made Mariah into a global superstar. The fact that she wrote it for Gloria Estefan just shows how much fate took over and let it be as it is. This is her signature song and always will be. This is always the case for an artist to have their peak, not in popularity, but in this notion that Hero is an anthem. It's about overcoming so much and even WBT or AIWFC can change that fate. Sorry guys,it will always be 1993 - Hero.

JD to manage Mariah in times like these, really? (39,390)
by Edward from USA
| |

I don't understand why Mariah keeps picking people with basically little to no experience managing an artist of her caliber. Mariah, this is not time to take chances on the management department. Keep JD in the studio where he belongs. And I hope JD's annoying voice is not all over the tracks you may have produced with him.

JD to manage MC (39,389)
by MCfanATL from USA
| |
I highly doubt this article is reliable. I think it would be a poor business decision for Mariah to allow JD to manage her. Frankly, with his recent legal and money troubles, it wouldn't look good for Mariah. Also, note that the article says JD wrote Mariah's AIWFCIY which we all know is not true. Mariah did not begin working with JD until the Daydream album. AIWFCISY was written and produced by Mariah and Walter. I would check the source of this article.

JD as Mariah's manager (39,388)
by Musti from UK
| |
First of all JD, did not write AIWFCIY. He only remixed it in 2000. So that part of the news is incorrect. Secondly, this might possibly be the worst Mariah related news ever if it means that we'll be getting more and more WBT part 2's for the rest of Mariah's contract with him. His sound and creativity have been completely exhausted. However JD has also been in the music business for a long time and probably has invaluable connections, which might in fact work to Mariah's advantage when it comes to promo. My feelings about this news are seriously mixed at the moment. I hope we receive a confirmation from Mariah's camp soon.

JD managing (39,386)
by Brad from USA
| |
Hi lambs. I don't enjoy being negative, but I agree with Will's post. I think things are even more wrong than we know in Mariahland if JD is now her manager. Didn't she just sign to a new agency that represents artists like Steven Tyler? I don't get it. I like/love almost all of their creative collabros, but business is business and JD does not have a good track record of being able to even manage his own financial affairs. Rumor has had it that he is broke. Mariah needs to run away from that entanglement. Louise McNally, where are you in all of this? Please put MC back on the right road. Bye, bye.

Stacey / Jermaine Dupri managing Mariah (39,385)
by John from USA
| |
Stacey, when I say "evergreen", I'm talking about songs that the general public will always remember. Of course, as fans, we know she has endless hits, and I too am never satisfied with Mariah in concert because she always leaves out at least one or two favorites of mine. The songs that I mentioned were the ones that I believe will always be remembered and listened to by the general non-lamb public (AIWFCIY, Hero, WBT, ABMB, Without You, Fantasy, possibly Dreamlover). As far as JD managing Mariah, I am cautiously optimistic. I remember a few years ago right after TEOM came out, he said he had to tell Mariah not to whisper and use her full voice on one of the TEOM singles (forget which one). I generally do like his work with Mariah and I think he genuinely admires and respects her, and wants her to succeed. I'm nervous as hell for this next era. I know I'll love the music (I always do, except for the original version of Triumphant), but I would love another #1 or even top 5 single and #1 album. I think she can do it with the right songs and strong promotion.

Evergreen/signature song (39,383)
by Jay from USA
| |
I am in agreement that AIWFCIY will forever be her "signature song" since it's the one that will be listened to the most years to come (as it's already been said on this message board). It's really the only song that people have covered over the years and because of it will bring her recognition. Hero, Always Be My Baby, Fantasy, WBT, OSD, are all songs that will be remembered but not necessarily "the song" the way people associate a song with a singer. I think the problem with MC is that she has so many types of songs, so many "eras". There's so many people that think her career started with TEOM. I was listening to a morning show the other day and a caller named Mariah was asked if she was named after the singer. The said no, that she came before the "other Mariah". They asked her what year she was born and it was in the late 90's. the radio hosts laughed and schooled her, telling her Mariah has been around for over 20 years. I think it's only the lambs that understand that the Mariah from the 90's is the same Mariah that infuses hip hop in her music now.

AIWFCIY vs Whitney's IWALY and Celine's MHWGO (39,381)
by Edward from USA
| |
It's a fact that "I Will Always Love You" is Whitney's signature song, and "My Heart Will Go On" is Celine's, but it's not less of a fact that "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is definitely Mariah's, and unlike the other two, "AIWFCIY" will still be listened to by future generations to come two hundred years from now. Mariah Carey is the only diva who reigns for at least a month once a year, not Whitney or Celine. Two hundred years from now, people most likely won't talk about Mariah, Whitney or Celine, but they will sure hear the voice behind that Christmas song, and for those who, out of curiosity, want to find out the story about voice, they'll have the internet to find out. So, when all of us have been long gone, Mariah will still reign supreme.

Mariah's evergreens (39,380)

Um, MC has more evergreens than she knows what to do with, lol. Just look at her concert set lists over the past 10-15 years. No fan is ever pleased, always feeling she left out a favorite of theirs. Why? She has so many great songs to choose from.
