Mariah Carey stars in the upcoming Hallmark Channel film "Christmas Melody", and we have the first promo shot from the made-for-TV movie. The singer acts and directs in the upcoming film. Carey looks sweet in a red bandage dress, white sweater (with bows on the cuffs) and a string of pearls. She wears her hair pulled back in a high ponytail.
She may look kind in the promo shot, but her character, Melissa, isn't. "Christmas Melody" centers on beautiful divorcee and clothing designer Kristin (Lacey Chabert) and her young daughter, Emily (Fina Strazza). Kristin is forced to close her small Manhattan boutique to return to her Ohio home town and live in her parents' former home.
It's an adjustment for Kristin and Emily - especially when she runs into her former high school rival Melissa (Carey). Melissa is president of the PTA and tries to make Kristen feel as unwelcome as possible. Kristen and Emily struggle to find their new normal with the help of an attractive music teacher (Brennan Elliott) and coffee shop owner (Kathy Najimy).
Michelle Vicary, EVP, Programming and Publicity, Crown Media Family Networks, gushed about Carey, "It is a true honor to welcome the multi-talented Mariah Carey to the Hallmark family. Carey and her extraordinary all-star cast will bring to life a treasured seasonal classic that our viewers will fall in love with during the holidays."
The singer recently told ET about the project, "It's a new start for me, really." The film airs on December 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT during the network's Countdown to Christmas event.
