Christmas is officially approaching, and overnight we've had confirmation from the Queen of Christmas herself (in the shape of a shiny new song, no less). Mariah Carey just dropped her latest Christmas single and guess what? We're obsessed. "Fall in Love at Christmas" dropped onto streaming platforms this morning and just like us, fans are losing it.
"Fall in Love at Christmas" is Mariah's new track that features Khalid and Kirk Franklin, and makes for the perfect romantic anthem to blast from now until New Year's Eve. Completely different from her other festive tracks, that usually feature an abundance sleigh bells and a more upbeat tempo, "Fall in Love at Christmas" is heavily influenced by Mariah's R'n'B roots.
The music video shows Mariah and Khalid sitting in The Butterfly Lounge, singing and harmonising with each other. It's not overly festive upon first listen, but when you approach three minutes into the five minute track, the festivities really begin to kick in. Sleigh bells begin to sound, a gospel choir appears and within a split second we're all transported into a festive wonderland like we've never known before.
Full to the brim with mellow harmonies and whistle tones, we couldn't love this chilled out Christmas track any more if we tried. Oh, and Mariah's adorable twins Moroccan & Monroe even make an appearance - and we said we couldn't love it any more.
Fans were quick to comment on the official music video, while others flooded Twitter and even more took to Instagram. Commenting on the official video one said, "Mariah Carey's capability to adapt with the times while staying true to her original sound is a true testament to her longevity." Another penned, "The queen just gave us: gospel, whistle notes, looks and saved Christmas already in just 5 minutes."
Twitter was popping after the release of everybody's new favourite festive track, with one fan writing, "Thank you so much for that Mariah, I was so excited and this song surpassed all my expectations, your voice came from heaven and it's an honor to be able to appreciate your music and be thrilled to see you sing like that, it's so magical."
Yep, we're going to have this new track on repeat until NYE. And we have no shame.
