Public eye (50,424) by Darryle from USA
I do think Mariah needs to get back out. She hasn't been seen out since January 30 that's almost a whole month. Mariah has a Las Vegas residencey coming up in less than 3 months. She's not going to sell out her tickets if she's only promoting it to the lambily. She needs to be going out to award shows, be seen on the street, or at the very least post some selfies on Instagram. Even though I don't like JLo she's got the right idea about always being on the red carpet. This is probably the only time I'll ever say this but, Mariah needs to take a play from JLo's book.

It's a little too early. Maybe mid March early April we will see more happening.

Mariah doesn't care about her public image at all. I think she has completely decided that she is above it. The Breakfast Club interview is proof of that. She will keep being a "diva" as you say because if you take that away from her you take everything from her. If she can't play dress up than there is no point for her to show up in public. It really is all about the clothes and make up at this point. In the past I felt like this image thing was all just for fun and the music was still the most important thing. She looked great and why not combine talent, voice and beauty? Even when she was "too" sexy it didn't bother me. Same people gave her some "nice names" because of it but it felt to me that is this sexist view that people have that a woman can't be sexy or if she is than she is "asking for it". With recent interviews you can really tell that things have changed. The insecurities are taking completely over and it is now too much. It's getting sad. She has two options: be herself and continue to alienate people or hire someone to manage her career and behaviour in public. I think the second option is disgusting for anyone especially a 45 year old woman. But if she wants her sucess back... (There could be a third option of some therapy to help her overcome her insecurities, after all at this point they are undermining her talent.)

Mariah Daily sucks (50,420) by Ty from USA
Mariah Daily used to be the best website for fans to get insight, videos, comments, but now they go almost a month without updates and it's no longer honest and forthcoming. Rihanna Daily has the energy that Mariah Daily used to have, at this point just shut it down.

I think it does matter. JLo being out and about is keeping her in the public's mind. She has already recorded and released a new track for a song for the soundtrack of a new animation movie. Something which is working really well for people like Pharell and Idina Menzel. Not only is she just singing for the soundtrack, she is also part of the voice cast along with Rihanna. Her last song, the ever annoying "Booty" managed to crack the top 20 based on her promoting it and being in public view. Her other annoying song "I Luh Ya Papi" managed to chart higher than the amazing "You're Mine". By being seen out and about, I don't only mean the red carpet, I also mean promotions. And like it or not red carpet and award function appearances adds to promotions. Plus now is the time for MC to connect with people and show her side that people can relate to. JLo has toned down her diva image by a lot. This woman used to walk around in gowns all the time, now you see her out and about in casual clothes and suddenly people think she's like us. MC needs to make people feel that too. I will stress it again, JLo has less talent that Mariah needs to work on her image. Image is everything in Hollywood. Not caring about it is a mistake.

Vegas promotion (50,417) by Emmanuel from Canada
I am so excited for her Vegas residency. However, why in the ham sandwich isn't she promoting it? Why isn't she on Jimmy Fallon, the View, Today Show and other outlets to promote and get the word out? I don't understand why she is laying so low. This is her time to shine. C'mon MiMi, make it happen.

Does being out and about really matter? (50,416) by Marissa from USA
Constantly being in the public eye does not translate to album sales. If that was the case why did JLo's album sell less than Mariah's? You can't even name a celebrity over age 40 that is in the public eye more than JLo and her sales were still laughable. I believe that it's all about the size and dedication of your fanbase and there being serious buzz surrounding your music. Showing up to red carpet events that have absolutely nothing to do with her career won't help. She needs to start performing on relevant talk shows so people will know that she has music out. She needs to collaborate with artists who are currently hot on the charts so the music will essentially promote itself to the younger generation. It's about promotion, not randomly being in the mix just because she's a celebrity.

Heartbreaker, you've got the best of me (50,415) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
That video is in league with MJ's short films. I have a soft spot for badass Mariah, Not to mention the musical dancing. The fight scene is so ratchet and so iconic now but I remember being flabbergasted the first time I saw it. Floored, much like Bianca. It could totally be made into a movie, starring yours truly.

Singing live (50,414) by MC1989 from Spain
The thing is that many people (including Mariah herself) seem to refuse accepting the fact that her voice has changed. Of course it had. Please name me one male or female who sounds the same after decades. I believe that when she sings 100% live (like the Rockefeller Center performance) people critizise her because they expect to hear her Daydream voice. She needs a vocal coach, more training and rehearsing. I really believe she needs to work harder and believe in herself. But when I saw that AIWFCIY performance I really enjoyed it, that intro was very good. However the whole world seemed to have watched a different performance. When I watch VOL in Jamaica I hear a talented woman singing an iconic song with a very powerful voice. When I watched back in 2005 Make It Happen at the Live 8 concert me and my friends went crazy with those growls and that energy, but many people didn't like it because it wasn't the 1991 version. What I mean is that I love to hear her singing 100% live. She moves me inside. I hate playback and I hope she stops doing it, but I think even if she stops doing it, a lot of people will continue insulting her.

Hope seems like the summer birds (50,412) by MC1989 from Spain
I still think When You Believe at the Oscars was very good. Not their best, but one of those unforgettable moments. Mariah shows off better in WYB on the Oprah Winfrey Show, her vocals on that performance are fucking great.

Andrew, being relevant after 25 years in music just a few can still be as relevant as she is (50,410) by MC1989 from Spain
I generally agree with you in some points but I feel you're very negative and I think you're wrong when you say Mariah is no longer relevant. Why do you say that? Because there are better performers than her? We know that. Because she's not having success right now? That's not enough. I hear songs like "Vision of love", "Hero", "Without you" or "My all" almost every week in different radio stations in my country. She's regarded as the best-selling female artist of the 90's. She's constantly imitated in TV singing contests (X Factors, whatever Idol and those kinds of programmes all over the world). She has millions of views on YouTube (her videos, even the oldest ones have much more views than Whitney, Celine and Madonna's videos from the 90's, and more than other artists who started before or at the same time as her). She has been praised by current singers like Adele, Christina Aguilera, Sam Smith, Rihanna or Lady GaGa (recently by Rihanna, GaGa and Fifth Harmony). Every year All I Want For Christmas Is You goes to number one in different charts without any promotion. She still is one of the best selling female artists in music history and she's recognised as one of the best voices of her generation. She's worked with Carole King, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Pavarotti, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder among others, some of the biggest names in music from the last decades. She still has more number ones than any other artist in the US.

In Mariah's defense Whitney was clearly on something during their Oscar performance. I'd be nervous, too. No shade or disrespect, just saying.

Music video (50,408) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Do you guys remember this show on MTV or VH1 (I can't remember) where they would let a major fan recreate a music video of their favorite artist? Like this one Britney fan got to recreate "Baby One More Time". Let's suppose that show was still on, and each of you got to choose a music video to recreate (MC's or any other other artist), which would you choose?

My All (50,407) by Bill from the UK
I love reading everybody's comments about this great track. I also love the song and the video. The video is very surreal with the giant shell and strange trees in the water, like she is in another world, and the black and white is stunning. I also loved the remixes. David Morales did a great job, and the Stay Awhile version is one of my ultimate favourites. And then she came out with Mi Todo and the associated remixes for the Spanish version. Just great. I also love how in recent years, when performing live, she incorporates the "feel your body, feel your body, feel your body" refrain from the remix, but in the original version. I also love it when the live version merges into the Morales mix at the end. Brilliant stuff. Good one Mimi.

Andrew (50,406) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
This time around, I agree with you. This is what I have been trying to say that if MC wants the public to remember her and stay relevant she needs to be seen out in public and what better than major award shows? Everyone saying she is too good to walk on the red carpet is somewhat being a little silly, because no she is not. She is an A list celebrity and so is the likes of Julianne Moore, Jen Aniston and Beyonce. This is not the 90s and this is not the time when the name Mariah Carey will be enough to sell like hot cakes. If MC wants another #1 hit (which I can assure everyone she wants for sure, so don't argue), only being remembered by her lambily is not enough. When I brought JLo into the equation, I didn't imply MC should be JLo 2.0, I simply named her because they are of same age and have started roughly around the same time. So scrap JLo. What about Beyonce? She has a major fan following, the woman can sing (now fans will argue she doesn't write her songs) and she is the most popular artist now, but even she is dragging her behind to every award show. Why? Because this is something that comes with her being a star. In 90s I wouldn't be complaining if MC decided to play the elusive diva, but now, when her name is only connected to bad publicity, she really can't afford to play the untouchable diva. She needs to be accessible to the general public so that people can relate to her. Bring on the hate, I really don't care. It's the truth.

It's Like That VH1 performance (50,405) by TiffMelody from USA

I've just stumbled across this performance. It's been a long time since I've shown this song some love. I got to admit she went all out on this performance. This song so appropriate for her now. (You better tell it, MC "leave it all behind".) You can tell she was really enjoying herself and was really great place. Don't worry guys; she'll get back into this place again. Just have faith.

Elusivity (50,404) by Andrew from UK
To the people that say Mariah not going to awards shows etc is fine because she likes privacy: that's all fine. But celebrities do this in order to stay in the public eye and relevant. Mariah can't afford to act like an "icon" who doesn't need to do this-and-that. She is no longer relevant and Joe Pubic has forgotten her. The only contact she ever seems to have with the public is extremely negative. And to the person who said Mariah is nervous performing at awards shows: she's nervous singing on a stage? Nerves? is that why she mimes badly? To make it go well? This is absurd. I'm sure if Mariah took a dump in the middle of the street this board would find a positive spin to put on it. "Dump. I Am Mariah. The Elusive Sh*tter". Lady GaGa stood on a stage and sang like a vocalist and brought the house down with talent and emotion. When... when... was the last time Mariah stood on a stage and performed like a vocalist, totally live and smacking of class?

Red carpet appearances (50,403) by Marissa from USA
I've never cared about the fact that she rarely makes red carpet appearances. The more elusive she is, the bigger of a star that she seems. All she needs to do is connect with her fans more and heavily promote her shit. She doesn't need to be JLo 2.0 showing up to every event with a step and repeat just to be seen in a cute outfit. In the words of Baltasar Gracian, "The best is always few and rare: much lowers value."

How I wish (50,402) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
How I wish that it was Mariah who was paying tribute to Julie Andrews (as Maria) singing the soundtracks medley of The Sound Of Music. That would be a great promotion for her Vegas gig as well as gaining back the confident of public on her singing. Just imagine it was Mariah who was getting the standing ovation and the next day it was all over the news and went viral at social media. How I wish.

My All (50,400) by Randy from USA
Is sick. Lyrically, vocally, production-wise one of the best pop ballads ever recorded. The drama of the final chorus. The video. I own the CD maxi-single, the My All/Stay Awhile maxi-single, the video single. It's my second favorite of all time by her, Butterfly edges it out slightly lyrically. I'm glad to see it getting love and she killed it on SNL.

Baby and the Oscars (50,398) by B from USA
Baby, you're so fetch. Mariah made an appearance on the red carpet last year at the premiere of Brett Ratner and The Rock's Hercules. She looked stunning. Mariah doesn't need a red carpet, she needs a stage that she can redeem herself on that will get the public interested in her and her residency. Priorities.

My All (50,395) by B from USA
My All is a masterpiece. Herb was able to capture the melancholy essence of the song. It's pensive and deep. You can feel the longing in Mariah's delivery.

My all (50,394) by Otti from Belgium
It's one of my favorites too. For me her videos from that time were her best, starting with "Honey", "Butterfly", "The roof", "Breakdown". Just when you think she's was done, she came with "My all" and I remember so well when I saw the video for the first time. I had the album "Butterfly" already, but didn't pay to much attention to the song until the video came out on MTV. The video brings the song alive. Herb did a great job with MC lying on the overturned boat referring to the line "I'd risk my life". I Always loved the black and white theme on the video. One note: the album "Butterfly" was released in september 1997 and "My all" went number one in late April or May 1998. I always thought that with a good video and promo that she could bring more live to "MIAMTEC" even a half year after it's release. Like she did with "My all".
