Still hoping for the best (41,618) by Tony from US
Aside from my first listen when the song debuted and watching both videos, I haven't really listened to YM(E). The single just hasn't moved me. It's not at all horrible, but it's not gripping enough for me. I think when people (like myself) say we want the old MC back, I'm talking about her releasing music with strong vocals and a strong melody. Last week in one of her interviews when she said the melody was so simple her toddler daughter can sing it back to her, that may very well be a good sign that MC as an artist isn't challenging herself creatively. And, if your daughter can sing it, then surely MC can and will sing it live and undubbed, right? I already know the BET performance will spark yet another lip-sync scandal. I'd quit singing before I lip-sync in front of Aretha. It's almost like cursing in church. My point? MC is so much better than what she's been giving lately. These knick-knack-paddy-whack songs with one note melodies are cool for a Rihanna or Miley, but not for the multi-octave voice of a generation best-selling-most-number-ones-having MC. I've forgiven the deteriorating vocals, because you can only work with what you've got. I've forgiven the stiff and lipped performances, the tacky ensembles, and I've even tolerated the eccentric/quirky interviews. What I can't let slide is sub-par music from someone I know is capable of sheer awesomeness. I really do hope for great things for this album.

Ralphie interview (41,617) by Mara from United States
I just have to say how amazing Mariah looked in that interview. When I saw Ralphie Aversa was interviewing MC I could not believe it. He was a local DJ in the small town I am from. To be given an MC interview, wow, congrats Ralphie. Looked like he was a little nervous, why wouldn't he be with the biggest interview he prob has ever landed. I must say MC looked a little tank back that he didn't know she does not "celebrate birthdays" only anniversaries. Anyhow, on to how amazing she looked and sounded. She brought me back to the Butterfly days with her hair color to her makeup and how she wore the black dresses a lot during that era. Her makeup was sexy and made her look very youthful. She was focused and answered all the questions and just seemed serious about the music. I thought it was a great interview overall.

Give me a break, lol. Nothing I posted was too harsh. All I posted was for [censored] to get off the cougar hair.

Thoughts on the hair / makeup / dress (41,615) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, according to me, Mariah's hair is perfect for her. The longer locks looks lovely especially since our diva darling loves using her diva fan in the videos and it flows around nicely. The only thing, if any, that she can do is maybe recreate the color she had on during Butterfly era, but keep the long locks. Makeup. I love it. I am 23 (yes I debuted the same year as Mariah) and I absolutely adore and often recreate her makeup looks because she always has the flawless healthy glowing face and gorgeous yet simple eyemakeup. She alternates between a very toned down dreamy eye look (like WBT, DFAU) and a darker smokey eye (like the one on the Ralphie interview). The makeup actually makes her look more youthful than old. The day MC will start wearing yellow lipstick and sing songs with lyrics "Give you a hard night, so tight, ready to go" I'll probably just leave. (Yes JLo I'm looking at you, stop trying to recreate On The Floor with Pitbull, it wasn't a great song to start with eitherways.) I actually like it when M wears elegant gowns and dresses. As long as they are not too revealing, it's great. She does have some really amazing outfits. I would rather have her wear those and act her age than desperately try to look 20, hello Madonna. Or something outrageous like Gaga. Oops I think I find M to be near perfect. She's been my role model, and I am glad I grew up inspired by her rather than some other people who are called stars nowadays.

Joyce (41,614) by Isaac Ortiz from USA
First of all, address your comment to me. Second, who's asking you to feel guilty? Not me, that's your [censored] opinion. Fine, but I'll always defend Mariah. Her hair is fine the way it is and in no way makes her look older. You seem to be drawn to her hair and appearance, rather than her voice and music. [censored] Did you come to the message board to comment and criticize Mariah's hair, instead of her music? [Webmaster: Isaac was very, very rude towards Joyce, so I had to censor most of his message.]

Cougar hair / JD appreciatio (41,613) by Ms. Giselle from USA
I never heard that before lol. I do know that when a woman ages, blonde does make you look older. To me, I was sick of her blonde hair a decade ago. The problem I have with Mariah, she never takes any chances. You're Mine is a great song, but it is forgettable and is safe. I know for a fact, because Bryan and JD said that she did a few uptempo songs. She needs to stop being so predictable and safe and take chances. I really wish she would hire me as her stylist and all around image consultant for everything. She badly needs a new look. That Ralphie interview was better, but I've noticed for a while now that when she talks, she doesn't make eye contact or keep the contact. She turns her head a lot and talks to the side. But I have to give it up for JD or Jermash (as MC calls him lol). She debuted at #88, the past few singles haven't except for #Beautiful. Also, she was able to debut internationally in some markets with zero promotion. So yay. JD, I hope they shoot a new video for the dance remixes and they are released soon. I also hope she goes internationally to really promote this album.

YM (41,612) by Alex from England
I personally don't care how the GP considers Mariah's music. I used to when I was younger and when Mariah was still cementing her legend status. Now, I'm 30 and just happy she keeps releasing music. Honestly sometimes I wonder what's more important for some fans. That she gets a #1 record or that she keeps releasing music that she likes? Chart success does not indicate talent at all, especially in today's market. Sometimes I feel like some people judge her music from her position on the Billboard chart. I'm sure if YM had debuted at #1, 95% of people would be like "she's amazing, she's back, this is the Mariah I love". Are you in it for the music or for the stats? On another note, yes I'd like Mariah to take more risks as well but up until now she's always released good albums, some better than others IMO, so I'll just leave the creative process up to her and the enjoying (or not) of the music part up to me.

YME is not a bad song by any means, but it's kinda of a given that us lambs will like it. New Mariah music is always great in ours eyes because we're fans. Although it's still early in the game, YME did only sell 32,000 the first week, that basically tells you right now the only people who are supporting her is the fans. What I was saying is if Mariah wants the attention of her fans as well as the GP she will need to branch out and get creative. We have to take ourself out of the "fan" light for a minute and view the song as the GP would. The GP today is always looking for something new and exciting. A very catchy song and the beat and melody has to be memorable. Again, I'm speaking from the people who actually buy music today. That's why I think the Hit-Boy single may be just what she needs. He's somebody she's never worked with and he's one of the best producers out right now. So this could be great. The lambs will always appreciate and support her music and maybe that's all that matters but if she does care about being on the top of the charts again we'll need something fresh and catchy as heck.

Couger hair (41,608) by Joyce from USA
Oh geez, I said her hair was lovely, it is pretty and it really is. But it makes her look older than she is and it's one of those "every other celeb over 45 or 50" is doing at the moment. She is really 30 when it comes to physical appearences. That hair ages her too much. It's total cougar hair. Older celebs tend to wear it, with more makeup, and tighter cloths. They have long cougar hair to gain a youthful appearance. And I'm not going to be made to feel guilty over my opinion. You don't agree, I get it. I respect it. The summation I gather from nearly all of the comments as that "we want to see something new". Everyone is saying to change it up for once, that things have been too similar to the recent past and I couldn't agree more. Some specify it's the song style that needs to change, others appearances but everyone agrees, a change and new direction is in order. Or simply put, she looks nice but aged by the cougar hair and gowns, out of touch and not down to earth as she had once been since before TEOM. That's all.

My 2 cents (41,607) by Gilbert from USA
Hi guys/gals, I feel that with You're Mine is a really nice gift to have from Mariah. I read somewhere here that someone said it was quickly put together just so it can be released in time. I don't really feel that way. I really feel it's a quality song that I've been looking forward to rather than another "for fun" release. If you're feeling what she is feeling in the song, she did her job. It's just like DFAU when I listen to it. I would love for this song to reach top charts but the way music is leading towards these days I highly doubt it. I really do believe the whole "illuminati" conspiracy. You have these women who blew up and really their songs are trash. I'm really grateful that Mariah doesn't have to follow those steps and be a sellout cause that's just really how I see it.

You're Mine (Eternal) (41,606) by B from USA
I still don't get all the hate this song is/has gotten. I love it. It's her best ballad since TEOM.

Joyce / cougar hair (41,605) by Isaac Ortiz from USA
You contradict yourself lady. You post that Mariah needs a new do. Then you post it's nice/beautiful whatever. And state although it looks nice. It makes her look older, lol. I'm really curious to know how you'd want it?Really, tell me. I've never heard anyone mention or talk about "cougar hair". Why are you so focused on her hair? It looks great. And as far as her gowns and dresses, okay in my book she's dressing according to her age. She's free to show a little skin here and there. She's enjoying her youth as much as she can. Maybe something you didn't do.

The video (41,604) by enwar00 from usa
There's a poll on Billboard.com that asks who's new video is best, Mariah, Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj. I voted for Mariah (naturally) and the results showed that she's winning with 60% of the votes currently. I think this is kind of funny based on many reactions here. I like the video overall. Sure Trey's scenes being in the original version seem kind of choppy or unnecessary, and they could have used way more of the rainforest instead, but I still like it.

Re DayDream 327 (41,603) by G.G. from USA
Re DayDream 327: "Also I think she needs to branch out out of her comfort zone." Exactly. Sometimes people's best works come from them doing things outside their comfort zones. I completely agree. You can be yourself and still try new things. I, personally, would love for Mariah to do an EDM record with Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, Avicii etc., and show the world that EDM can have soul.

Daydream327 (41,602) by JBfly from USA
I somewhat agree with you. To be honest I like YM. Though the lyrics are simple is probably why some find it boring. But I think what hurts the music is the video. The video has some good scenes but it gets boring staring at her holding on to her jewels throughout the whole video. Also I think she needs to branch out out of her comfort zone. She needs to work with different writers and kinda give up on rappers for a change. She doesn't necessarily have to have someone else write a song for her. She can be a co-writer. I don't think Mariah has lost her creative side when it comes to music. I just think that she's stuck with working with the same people and with that you somewhat get the same result hence you get the comparison of WBT and YM. Almost Home and AOLG are 2 different songs and I happen to like both. The girl can still sing and she needs to continue singing. Maybe the reason some don't like YM is because it's not midtempo or up beat. Which some of us are used to. Not expecting YM to hit number 1 but will be happy if it reaches top 20. With current trend going on now. I won't be surprised if Katy Perry or Rihanna end up racking in more number ones than Mariah. Records are meant to be broken but the quality of their music is no where near Mariah. Also we have to count on radios support. If they don't play YM then it won't take off even if we all lambs call and support it. I guess we all just have to wait what Mariah got for us in this coming album.

Gloves (41,601) by Jenny from South Africa
I'm not sure the gloves are a fashion statement. A lot of the times she only wears it on one hand and it's always the arm that got injured and she said in a interview that her arm is almost back to normal which implies there's still a little more healing to go. Maybe the glove is there as extra support or something. I know maybe that will sound far fetched but it's just an idea. Maybe I'm wrong and it is just a fashion statement lol.

Billy (41,600) by Isaac Ortiz from USA
I often wondered as well. I'm with Mimi L. and agree that it might be a fashion statement. As she took the word (elegant) right out of my mind, lol. It is elegant, and nice. Sexy, yet classy. I think Mariah pulls the look off well. And looks gorgeous. I like it. And I would love for her to put her up like she did in the video for "Can't let go". It would go.

Songwriting (41,599) by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC
I have been checking out the message board lately and I see that some of you want Mariah to forfeit her songwriting and allow others to do it for her. Me personally I disagree this is another part to Mariah Carey the artist being able to express herself openly and freely on her own accord and honestly for me it makes her more relatable that she take her thoughts opinions and feelings and put them into songs.

Lamb oh couger hair (41,597) by Joyce from USA
Relax, lol. I'm just saying her hair style as of late ages her far beyond her years. She still looks 30 and not 43 but that hair needs a software update. In the video for Beautiful, she looks ah-may-zing. Her hair, very natural. But put that gown on, gloves and aged hair do and gain unnecessarily years. See that dress I'm wearing? Big no-no.

Licia, Stephen, Edward (41,595) by Stacey from USA
Thanks to you all. It was a funny story, such a random comment from my daughter. I guess I listen MC more than I realize. My daughter has good taste. Yes Licia, I did have my boy on November 20th. He is baby #3 and my last, lol. Hard to believe he is already three months old and so chunky. Ahhh yes, Daydream theme would be perfect. You know me so well. I'm still laughing at the two people who hit the "thumbs down" icon. Did their finger slip? Must be the case, lol. Thanks Stephen. It's nice to be back. May 6th, here we come. I can't wait. I am enjoying You're Mine more and more.

Relax (41,593) by Joyce from USA
Actually it seems we agree on everything but the hair and clothes now that you are not accusing me of suggesting she sell her soul to the image gods and tweenies just for record sales. Yup, it's a pretty hair style, real nice and so are the glamour gowns but, hair styles and outfits can age you older than you really are. I think the whole ensemble is a miss and though small, contributes. I hope those around me would not be afraid to have a conversation on things they feel, be in my best interest, even in just tossing around a few ideas on a message board. FYI, this is not an attack on Mariah but more a commentary on a community board where we share our ideas, hopes and suggestions on what could benefit her career, things we'd imagine could. I don't know her but what I have seen, she seems like a fragile woman with a resolve stronger than steel, who is human like the rest of us. All we can really do is hope for the best and watch from our tablet screens and iPods what comes next in Mariah's iconic career.
