Odds on Mariah Carey Christmas number one cut

Mariah Carey's odds to be number one this Christmas have shortened to 4/1 from a massive 33/1 following the announcement of her new Christmas animation film featuring her smash hit "All I want for Christmas is you". The Christmas classic climbed to number two in the charts back in 1994, but hasn't featured in the top three since. Last year, Carey managed to finish fifth in the charts, but never really looked close to knocking Clean Bandit from the top spot.

It's not just her own film release causing a stir with the punters, with rumours her song could feature in this year's John Lewis Christmas advert, set to be released this week. A teaser for the ad was dropped on Twitter yesterday, and rumours linking her with the advert could explain why her odds have been cut from 12/1 to 4/1 this morning. Her odds imply she's got a 20% of landing her first Christmas number one.

Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek "Wham/George Michael is still the most backed act in the market, Wham have accounted for a massive 49% of bets. However, Mariah Carey is eating her way into this percentage, this month she's had 29% of all bets in the market."
