Re: Battle of the albums round 1 (75,811) (75,834) by Special K from USA I love both albums but I have to give it to Emotions. The Emotions album like others have stated solidifed me as a die hard fan. The debut is great but it sounds dated and Mariah appeared to have no personality. With Emotions the tones in Mariah's voice are showcased more, the production of the songs are on a whole other level, and the songs are timeless. Emotions has personality (To Be Around You, Emotions, Make It Happen) the album is a perfect blend of soul, pop, with a sprinkles of gospel. Listening to this album just makes me feel good. Of course I have to give shout out to TTEOT but songs like Don't Remember, So Blessed, The Wind and Can't Let Go are dang near perfect. Critics didn't see the vision with this album. Tour (75,831) by steven from usa Have y'all seen her twitter page? Someone asked her to perform Anytime You Need A Friend and she responded and said it was a good idea but she doesn't know (yet). And also replied to someone that she is debating on Faded vs Thanx 4 Nothin to put on the tour set list. I think we are gonna get some never performed songs. I'm ecstatic. Yes, there have been the collections with MAC and the perfumes are selling well (in the US that is). However she is hardly ever mentioned as a style icon because she isn't one. Her heyday as a potential fashionista ran in the 90's during the Butterfly era. Remember the Gucci ensembles? These days her look has become tacky and cheap. It takes a lot more than a good idea to build a succesful business outside of her own domain. Victoria Beckham has been a huge icon of fashion for years and yet her London store still makes no profit. Go figure. Mimi should stick to making great music. The end. (Sunday 28 May 2017; 08:12)

I feel the "Emotions" album was a little forced at times, trying to make a bolder statement which fell flat for me. I do however appreciate its artistic creativity. The stand out song for me on that is album "Till The End If Time" however her debut has so many. From "Alone In Love", "Prisoner", "I Don't Wanna Cry", "All In Your Mind" the list is endless. I find myself skipping through more tracks on "Emotions" when compared to the debut. (Sunday 28 May 2017; 00:37)

I love the cohesion of this album start to finish and she started shifting towards the Doo Wop sound she explores further on Daydream. The album artwork is different from any other Mariah album art, it's in dynamic motion. To Be Around You and You're So Cold are two of her best '90's dance tracks. (Saturday 27 May 2017; 23:04)

You're So Cold and And You Don't Remember are permanently in my top ten playlist. From the debut, it is only IDWC that made it up there. I love the album cover (I got a cassette) but what made me appreciate Emotions more than the first one is simply because Mariah co-produced all the tracks. For me, Emotions is the winner. When I talk about certain songs I don't love or hate it because it was a hit or not. It was just either a great song or horrible. My love for the Mariah Carey album is the obvious answer of this was the album that made me pay attention and love Mariah's music. I was 12 when this album came out, but I didn't fully appreciate this album until I got older because then I actually understood what she saying in each song. Emotions is just great. A very cohesive album. Not a bad song on it in my opinion (not even the one song I skip). I'm refusing to just pick one. Lol. (Saturday 27 May 2017; 21:31)

Both have their strong points and are dear to me but Emotions sways it because the upper register was perfect and unashamedly present on almost every track. The production was more coherent throughout due to MC co-producing everything. The songwriting was more mature, the ballads bigger and more atmospheric, and who cannot love the collaborations with Cole and Clivilles? On top of that, the three videos are three of her best. She'd gone out of that somewhat shy/awkwardness from her first batch and seemed genuinely confident and at ease. It was soulful and the influences from gospel and the 70s worked brilliantly.
