TV show songs (66,921) by Will from England
For brand new songs, do TV show executives/whoever have a list of requirements for what they want a song to sound like? Because the song has to fit with the show, and not completely the opposite of what they need it to be. So could it be possible that Mariah, JD and whoever, got a list of requirements for the song, what it had to say lyrically and the vocal performance needed, the context of which it had to fit, and crafted a song around that? Instead of going all out with full Mariah Carey, with whatever she wanted to write and sing about?

Who performed the surprise lobotomies? (66,920) by Nikki from usa
You all know Mariah's touring throughout October and wrapping it up in Hawaii in November. You know her December Christmas deal with concerts and usual promo. Why do you think this is a new Mariah Carey single when that was not promoted by her or her team and you're well aware she has no time this year to do that? Empire isn't a podium to release new material for artists, it's for artists to assume a role and release music for Empire. At it's best selling they get over 100,000 downloads. Empire is R&B and hip-hop music that goes with their storyline and that's what Mariah delivered. New music for Empire doesn't equal Mariah Carey's next single. Now, people have gone off the deep end pumping up something that never existed and then blaming Mariah for not delivering something that was never promised.

Well aren't you a treat. Showing off is not what I do, you have know idea about me or my money (which I fully earn). How dare you have a pop. I would never dream of checking your profile out and having a go. Shame on you. Super fan since day one, that doesn't often comment but reads everyone's post (even if some are as dressing and beyond help).

RibbonB, (66,915) (66,918) by Edward from USA
RibbonB, and because I love your posts and your humor, I'll say: RibbonB with a Bow on it, lol. Mariah could give an Oscar worthy performance on Empire, but that won't turn "Infamous" into a great record. A great record for me is not necessarily a song that would be a hit on the radio, a great record is just great, like many of Mariah's album cuts. Petals, Vanishing, Outside, Close My Eyes, and When I Saw You, just to name a few, would've been flop singles, but that wouldn't have taken away the greatness of those songs. In fact most of Mariah's #1's won't hold a candle to the aforementioned tracks. A hit doesn't necessarily mean a record is great, a good example would be Rihanna's "Work". It is evident that "The Emperor has no clothes", even though we can keep pretending his outfit is yasss queen to die for.

Infamous (66,917) by Special K from USA
I haven't heard the song yet. I'll wait to see Mariah and Jussie perfom it on Empire.

Mariah's World premieres in December so unless you've seen it how can you call it a mess? The teasers have been promising except for a glimpse or two of Stella.

Re: Is it really decent or is it "Infamous" (66,897) (66,909) (66,915) by RibbonB from USA
The show hasn't even aired yet though. Have a little faith already. Lol. What will people say if the song is actually a little hit. Jussie has some fans, the show still has fans and Mariah does have fans who will support and buy the single. Then she has her mini tour to finish and with Hawaii selling out, that is the perfect opportunity for her and Jussie to perform and promote it together. Don't act like she hasn't put out Infamous quality songs before, it is like a lot of her album cuts and better than a lot of songs getting played on radio today. She did a nice thing releasing it before the show aired, maybe that was actually a mistake.

Support (66,914) by Licia from USA
I can't believe people are still throwing tantrums because some don't like the song. Instead of worrying about who does and doesn't like the song, how about y'all put that energy into supporting her? I bet the people who are complaining about the supposed lack of support haven't even purchased the dang song.

How will you react when all that does not happen? Lol. She may not re marry this dude, because she still isn't divorced and she will never give up music because she loves it so much. I highly doubt she will ever give up the spotlight because she lives for it and she could have done all that without this fiasco of a Mariah's World mess coming up. Also if Nick can hold up a divorce, allegedly, he will certainly prevent his kids from moving across the pond.

Sorry for the typo, yes you are correct, Mariah was 24 years into her career at the time of 2014 WMA's.

Mandy (66,911) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
It's 26 years ago Mariah made her debut for the world. And side bar Miley is as fake as they come because at that same event Miley took a picture with Mariah and bragged about it like a fan girl on social media. So her latest stunt was nothing more than press for herself being a new coach on The Voice. Also why not target Mariah because whether good or bad her name can still garner press after all these years later? Miley should be thankful her name is even mentioned with the likes of Mariah Carey.

I didn't recognise you so I thought I'd check out your last few messages. Pretty much just trying to tell everybody that you spend money going to New York and Vegas and clearly just trying to show off lol. No, people won't be silent if they hate it. Why don't you be silent instead of trying to blatantly tell everyone how great you think you are.

Ugh Edward do you read minds or what? I too think this is yet another missed opportunity. Like you, I am not "devastated" by the song because I didn't expect much. It was like a bonus this year. But for Mariah it's quite the missed opportunity because this song would have gotten noticed by at least the millions of viewers that tune in to watch "Empire" in the States and worldwide. Great publicity for her without even having to make much effort. For that reason only she should have put in more effort. This is the same with what happened last year when she could have used Bieber's fame to her advantage. Just the fact that Justin crashed into Mariah's studio got so much coverage, if the song would have been released it would have gotten a lot more attention because since last year, everything Bieber touches was selling like hot cakes. And when I said "release the song" I didn't mean the half cooked nonsense mess we got to hear but fine tune it to make it for of a Mariah and Bieber song. Plus where is the 19th #1 Bulochnikov was going on about? I'm so bored of the wasted opportunities. It's like she doesn't even care. Sorry about the messy post.

Re: Infamous is ok (66,889) (66,908) by MusicfanJ from Germany
After reading all the posts here to Infamous I finally listened to the song. I expected nothing because many of you don't like the song. But I think for "Empire" it works. It fits perfect to all the other songs from that TV series. If it would be the new single from Mariah's new album I could understand the disappointment. We'll see what's up next. Maybe she pleases then more fans and listeners.

I wonder where Stella's "19th #1" hype announcement fits in. It definitely isn't Infamous. Could it be that a proper single is on its way? Maybe they have something in the works for AIWFCIY? I doubt she'll release a new single now with Christmas only a couple of months away.

I hate to admit but I actually love when Mariah goes, "I know it's dangerous, but I believe, a greater love there can never be". It's starting to grow on me totally. It's not like a great moment but it's nice radio filler.

Re: Is it really decent or is it "Infamous" Edward (66,905) by Sheila from United States
Hello Ms. Girl, footnote "concealer works". It's ok to give your take on the song but to bash and bash and bash another human being over her vocals, her hair, her weight, her dress, her nails, her manager, her manager's kids, her instagram, her videos, her makeup artist is a bit destructive, right? Ok, I've proven my point. Keep in mind, when Mariah gets married and moves over the pond somewhere and there is "no" music, I guess these debbie downers will miss these little guest appearances and those red carpet moments, because trust and believe sweetie, it's coming.

The silence of the lambs (66,904) by Terna from Nigeria
It's no wonder Mariah is reaching out to the younger generation for new fans who would love her, accept and support her unconditionally as she is now, and talk and refer to her with love and respect. Unlike the core fans who started with her and Tommy's vision of Mariah Carey. Those fans fell off along the way, and morphed into something crafted from pure hate. While still deceiving themselves they're still rational, and "love" her, yet when it comes to Mariah Carey, you get a glimpse of the confusion and ugly they are inside. And they're here littered all around with their distorted, inverted perceptions about her shamelessly spewing hate and negativity any chance they get. How miserable they must truly be. . A new crop of Mariah Carey fans is being raised void of all those issues the greater part of her original fanbase have. And in time the 795 B.C. entitled fans would be long forgotten because they and their distorted opinions on her won't matter, will not even be tolerated nor entertained.

Miley (66,899) by JAXGH from United States
I can't blame her honestly. I think it's not even Mariah's music that she dislikes, it's just Mariah in general, Mariah disrespecting other people's time. I remember in World Music Awards 2014 where Miley was in, Mariah was opening the show but the whole entire event had to be delayed, by 4 freaking hours, because of what? Purely Mariah's tardiness. How do you even expect anyone to like Mariah after that. She didn't consider that other artists, dancers, musicians, hosts, producers, tech people, are on the show. They all had to adjust their schedules just to accommodate her delay. And that's honestly disappointing for someone who's been in the business for 24 years. So yeah Miley has her reasons. It's beyond Mariah's music.

Article: "Mariah Carey could sing you under the table" (66,898) by Gemma from Australia
I don't know who Wendy Williams is but I love her lol. Miley Cyrus is a carnival act and Mariah could out sing her, even on Mariah's death bed.

Is it really decent or is it "Infamous" (66,897) by Edward from USA
I've listened to "Infamous" several times now. I consider it just a filler song, but not by Mariah standards. I love how Mariah beautifully and intelligently places those whistles to adorn the song though, the main highlight. It reminded me of Underneath The Stars and 4th Of July, something that I've missed. Jussie Smollett's voice sounds fine to me, but he turns into a dying screaming goat while being skinned alive when he's autoned to death on his very own T-Pain moment. Infamous is just half of the definition of the word Infamous thus being half a step up "Floppinity". The issue with most people is with the hype the created around it leading up to its release. They talked all sorts of stuff leading people on. Then when people get something that is not up to part with the hype and get disappointed, here comes the head of the Holy Inquisition, Sheila, that is, and her finger and a half of followers blasting on people's asses for daring to express their opinions. I'm not disappointed because I wasn't expecting anything out of this world. I'm just sad that she didn't use "Empire" as a means to actually put out a great record, that's what they led everybody to believe, so don't blame us for having expected that. She had lots of time to come with something better than that. I don't know if Mariah ran out of things to write about or maybe her muse has been on vacation for quite a while, but "Infamous" is just that, just another track. When I listen to it, I like it, when I don't, I don't miss it.

New song (66,896) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I long for a day when Mariah makes a song again where majority of the fans are on the same page and love it on the first listen. Like what happened when we heard WBT or ABMB or "Fantasy". I wsh we didn't have to try and make ourselves like a song just because it's released by Mariah. I've never really had to force myself to like a Mariah song before "Infinity". I even loved YME on first listen, I still love it. I mean to be honest I feel like all her efforts since 2015 have been weak and she doesn't sound like she is inspired. Saying "Infamous" is better than "Infinity" or "Why You Mad" is not enough. At this point you are just trying to justify her material by comparing it to songs that were not up to her standards (Infinity) and unfinished mess (Why You Mad), which really shouldn't be the way to go. (Side note, I'll say "Infinity" is better than "Infamous" because it's more memorable and catchier.) Mariah's benchmark should be the higher quality songs she has been making her whole life, her benchmark shouldn't be the "bare minimum quality" where we have to say "Oh well it's definitely better than Infinity". She should make songs that are either on the same level or above the level of her high quality songs. Also I feel like some of her recent songs kind of just sound like it ends abruptly. Is it just me or do others get it too? I mean you feel like it's going to build up to a bigger ending but instead it just abruptly stops, which makes it sound like she wasn't sure what to do next or just got bored or ran out of time so she stopped there. Here's to wishing she improves her next attempt at a lead single/album and chooses her collaborators wisely and uses them wisely too. For example #Beautiful was a step in the right direction. It was fresh, different Mariah yet classic Mariah, but she had such a small part on her own lead single and the song was too short. Then "Triumphant" (although I don't get the hate and I love it as it is) could have fared better if Mariah's part was longer and more prominent. So just choosing different collaborators won't work, she needs to utilize them properly too.

Re: Songbird supreme? (66,888) (66,894) by B from USA
Rhianna and Beyonce are already experience waning sells. Rhianna gave Anti away for free and despite months of media domination and manipulation Lemonade barely sold a million copies. When Charmbracelet sold only a million copies it was considered a disappointment. Why is Mariah held to her past successes and her supposed successors not? FYI, Lemonade has only sold 1.2 million copies.

I do not think Infamous is weak or bad. I liked it. I think the song has a more comercial trend (a little more).

Re: Expectation - Estelle and Jussie's Conqueror (66,887) (66,892) by RibbonB from USA
The original Empire soundtrack did pretty well as a compilation CD to accompany the runaway hit that the show was in it's first year. I think any new CD will have only moderate success as the show is waning and already jumped the shark last year in only its second season. Mariah's song will be a nice addition if they put one out this year. While Timbaland's music on the show was catchy, it was cheesy. I would never buy it, but a lot of kids did and I think those people are still very enamored with the show. I couldn't stand "Up Down" or "Drip Drop", but still remember them. Timbaland seemed to almost put parody music on the show. Lol. This year's music is not even catchy, IMO. "Conqueror" was not a great song to me, but it certainly filled a spot for the show and got Estelle a bit of interest. Mariah will bring her share of interest back to the show and get a little shine for herself in the process. But Hero was Hero and Mariah does not seem to be writing in that vein any longer. Jussie is a parody of a singer, so there is that.
