Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,363) by Andrew from London UK The Roof is *sophisticated*. It is the only word that comes to mind. The Butterfly album is sophistication exemplified. I think this is why Rainbow is so disliked amongst fans. Rainbow was a product of its time, of the TCL, Britney et al. easy pop sound that happened around that time. Rainbow is what it is. But after Butterfly, the tinny production, blandness of material and rushed vocals of Rainbow only served to highlight how great previous material was. Videos included. Further, the album name was too girly for broad appeal, the cover was weird and the CD inliner not having the lyrics in favour of a heavily doctored vanity poster only added salt to the wound. But if Butterfly were released in 1999, do you think it would have been as successful? I don't think so. She did what she had to do. I have great memories of Rainbow due to the age I was upon its release. I thought the Heartbreaker covers were a fun choice of colours and the twisty-top-against-sky image of TGIFY is one of the most iconic Mariah images ever. Yes, the album itself is not standing the test of time. It was the beginning of the crash. But you have to admit that it's a lot more fun than Butterfly. So that's how I take it. With a pinch of salt. Even if in the wound. And, finally: Did I Do That is awesome. Get thee to a nunnery if thou thinkst not. (Friday 19 July 2019; 22:44)

Fourth of July (90,362) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City) With Fourth of July, the story she painted with her lyrics is what makes the song amazing, the same thing with The Roof the story along with the video is MC in all of her sexy glory without trying too hard. I really miss some of these moments it just takes you down lane, and it makes me appreciate MC for her great talent as a brilliant songwriter and story teller. (Friday 19 July 2019; 17:58)

Re: 4th of July revisit (90,356) (90,361) by Mirage_Nunez from America I will admit initially The Roof went over my head (pun intended) but it didn't take too long for me to get completely immersed in the incredible lyrics, storytelling, and perfectly atmospheric vibe of the song. The thing is The Roof is a total mood and the video captured it perfectly. It has aged so well, "every time I feel the need" to listen to it again I love it that much more. Most people will remember the impact of WBT because of the comeback factor but TR is so much more powerful. As you mentioned, the longing to a passed moment of bliss is what it makes so poignant. Maybe because it's a "snakes in the grass, it's time to cut the lawn" moment. Stella planted some bad seeds and karma is just working out for her. It's ironic she says that her kids were exposed to seedy things when working with Mariah. Give me a break, she's been in the entertainment business. They've probably saw worse things. The way you describe it makes it sound so stinking great, but when I listen to the song it falls flat. I initially thought that maybe because I can't relate to the song that's why I've never felt it like you all, but I can't relate to a lot of songs yet I love them. It is a beautifully painted picture and, in a way, perfectly describes that nostalgic longing for something that never was. As it happens, I had a similar experience with someone, on a rooftop bar nonetheless, that was intense but went no further. I do re-live that moment from time to time, so it does really speak to me. The music is the other. The sample is perfect and it creates this atmosphere like no other song on the album. It has a sense of urgency to it, and is melancholic and subdued, and the beat is almost like the city below or the driving rain. The visuals is the other piece of the puzzle. It's the transition from the antics on the roof (her memory), and the shots in the limo. As it's raining outside, she is warm and cosy in the limo reminiscing, but then to experience that night again, she opens the sun roof and lets the rain fall on her. All the pieces together just worked. And the way she sings so softly and gently, is like a distant memory or dream. I love the exiting ad lib of "last night I had the strangest dream. It was actually quite symbolic. And I whispered that I love you, very subtly". It is just poetry. Can't believe so many people on this planet haven't heard it. (Friday 19 July 2019; 15:46)

Now Breakdown is another story. I've said this before, but Breakdown is a masterpiece. Of all of her songs with rap artists this one to me is the most well put together hip hop infused songs. Nothing was out of place. The vocals were great and the raps matched the song perfectly (I'm still pissed at Rick Ross and his strippers on Triumphant lol). She could not have picked a better group to collaborate with imo. (Friday 19 July 2019; 13:54)

Mariah, Mariah (Say Somethin' So So Def Remix) (90,354) by Lafa from Sweden I am not after something here, a "mention" or whatever. But I was featured in Say Somethin' So So Def Remix over the web without knowing about it which is funny so I see it as a "hello" from Mariah. Mariah doesn't feature anyone in her songs actually. This was spiritual reasons behind. So people here have probably heard my singing recording to Mariah. It would be fun if Mariah herself heard it, since this is full voice singing so I don't have to be ashamed. (Friday 19 July 2019; 12:18)

The Roof is also one of the best things she ever did. That and Breakdown are really the backbone of the album. My only annoyance is the mumbling and whispered approach to most verses. I'm glad she kept it simple with the vocals because the song didn't need Holleriah. The Butterfly album is slowly creeping up on my list. I think it was like number 5 or 6 of albums I love by her. And it's so little I would never want you to see it. It is about as little as the hope that Mariah has of being nominated for that award. Anyway, did anyone ever learn the difference between Record of the Year and Album of the Year? It makes about as much sense as having Movie of the Year and Motion Picture of the Year. She says he can release what he wants, but thought the situation seemed "girly" like they were in a catfight, and suggested he take up knitting.
