Re: Setlist (80,117) (80,122) by Licia from USA
Most of us know and understand that she won't sing her lesser known songs. We just want her to pick her known uptempo songs. The last song I want to hear while I'm drunk going into the new year is Hero. Lol.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,113) (80,121) by Licia from USA
I just watched an interview with Ryan Seacrest saying Mariah will be performing a couple of songs, one of them is Hero ( blah). That's the one she will be singing before the ball drops. I guess. I thought I was going to get away from Hero. Lol.

I must be one of the very few that actually dislikes Migrate. Since its release in 2008 it seemed outdated, as if it should have been released back in 2000. With the added T-pain feature and auto tune, plus the over cheesy lyrics, I can't help but cringe when I hear that song.

For the performance I would absolutely love Mariah to shake things up a little:
1. Thirsty - This would prove Mariah can still make current hip music, without the feature of anyone else. I think the song is sassy, clever and extremely catchy. Dedication to Stella perhaps.
2. Unforgettable with French. The song didn't get the acknowledgement it deserved. Would prove Mariah can still be relevant and be regarded as a significant artistic to work with. It would be extremely popular with the younger demographics.
3. Heartbreaker - Jay makes an appearance. It's an old skool fave and would remind the world just how great she once was. Plus being on stage with Jay wouldn't hurt.
4. Mariah's Theme - If she could hit the "shining brightly" note at the end then the earth would literally stop turning. It's basically Hero 2.0. If too difficult to sing then DYKWYGT, it's easy to sing and a classic amongst older fans.
5. Aud Lang Syne - It is New Year after all. I think the song is better than the original and has the potential to become tradition amongst a larger audience on New Years Eve.

Whatever she performs I have faith the performance will go down well, come on Mariah.

She's still at number three this Friday on the German charts. That's pretty impressive for a holiday song from 94.

Setlist (80,117) by Will from England
Ryan Seacrest has confirmed that Mariah will perform two songs, one of which will be Hero. I agree with The Real Deal, obscure album cuts aren't meant to be sung at major events. That's why she sticks with ABMB, Hero, WBT etc. for major, non-fan based events because she knows that people know them and will be invested in the performance, especially if it's a short one. With longer setlists, she can have a little more wiggle room to dive into the more unknown, fan-favourite songs.

New pics from Aspen (80,115) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Have you seen how young and beautiful Mariah looks at the latest pics in Aspen? It's really a 180 degrees change compared to those pics who were taken a year ago. I wish her the best holiday ever and I'm so excited for the NY gig. Happy holidays everybody.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,112) (80,113) by The Real Deal from USA
Artists never perform album cuts at these major events. They only perform and are expected to only perform their well known songs. So you can forget about "Meteorite", "Migrate", etc. Before anybody interjects by saying that "Auld Lang Syne" isn't a known single from her - you're right, it's not - but the song itself is a well known song and associated with New Years Eve. In regard to "It's like That", it may not even be considered one of her biggest hits, but there's a slight chance that it might happen. What I think would be amazing is if she did the exact same set list as last year and of course, snatch wigs with her vocals on all of the tracks. BUt please, leave the feathers at home lol.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,110) (80,112) by MusicfanJ from Germany
After reading all your opinions about "Hero" I have to agree. "Meteorite" would be so perfect for the new year. And I never get tired of My All/remix. The same with "Vision of love". Maybe we'll be surprised with the set list. I'm happy with every song as long as she's "feeling it" and ready to rock the stage.

Oh come on. Y'all don't want Hero with a "I don't know if you know this next song" intro? No Vision of Love with the clenched fist tryna strain out be? No WBT with the lip sync fist punching the air last chorus? You guys are not true fans.

All I Want For Christmas Is You video (80,109) by Edouard from France
I've realized I never paid that much attention to the video until this year and I must say I'm surprised. Mariah was already herself in this video. You can tell how playfull and sexy she feels even back then. She seems confident and very much rooted into who she is. When you think about it the album gave her the opportunity to explore more of her musical roots as well. It's funny how the first Christmas album allowed her to explore more of an RnB direction. I believe a lot of the freedom she claimed and conquered later in her career and personnal life was inspired by the making of this album which is deeply connected to spirituality and faith (and I'm not only refering to the religion aspect of things). I also love, love, love how she says bye bye to Tommy Mottola aka fake Santa at the end.

What song should she perform? Andrew is 100% right (80,108) by Sheila from United States
I hate to admit it, but he's right. My All. Fantasy is the turnup and Heartbreaker - bring Jay Z out and turn New York City out. One of his more "normal-unhateful" post. Ok hunnie for the 2018 turn-around.

Please no more VOL or WBT. I'm sure she's so tired of singing to those songs more than I'm done with her performing them "live".

Re: Weather (80,100) (80,106) by darrian liu from taiwan
The most important thing Mariah could do is to warm up her voice. Go to rehearsals, make sure to hydrate more, drink warmer beverages to help loosen up her voice, do all those silly vocal exercises like lip trills and tongue trills to help warm up and do soundchecks. That way, although she's faced with cold weather, her voice will still be flexible and reliable.

I agree with Meteorite (80,105) by jaker20 from US
It's a bit easier to sing, it's fun and festive and timely. I'm looking at a production similar to It's Like That BET performance.

I vote for Meteorite. I heard it today and thought it could be festive and a good fit for New Years. And they can have fireworks go off in the sky while she's performing.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,101) (80,103) by Lee from UK
Definitely not We Belong Together, Vision of Love or Hero. And nothing with that sustained belt she is keen on doing these days either. It was interesting at first, then it seemed to crop up in every other song. Now she uses it to distract us from everything she is not currently able to do. I'm hoping for something a capella. Remember when Beyonce was busted for lip syncing the national anthem at Obama's inauguration and then came back with an a capella version of it for the Superbowl? That's what Mariah needs to do in my opinion.

The weather doesn't sound too great, but I am sure they went over everything including the weather before she signed back up for this. Well at least I would hope so lol.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,098) (80,101) by Andrew from UK
I was in love with The Perfect Year when I was a kid. In terms of what Mariah should perform, she should really stay away from We Belong Together: it's so overdone, she cant sing it live (and she really has to not lipsync the same stuff this time around) and it's not really sing-along-feel-good. She should defo open with My All on stage alone to prove she can stand and sing and then surprise everyone by going into the remix. "Id give my all for your love tonight" is a great last line to make the crowd go wild for her. Then she should tell the crowd how much she loves New York and go straight into the first verse and chorus only of Fantasy Remix ("Yo New York in the house" is a wicked surprise for Times Square). "Feels like I'm dreaming but I'm not sleeping" should go straight into "Gimme your love, gimme your love" and the Heartbreaker second verse and she should bring Jay-Z on stage (hard to attack someone when they got the big boys behind them). She should end with Make It Happen because its message is perfect looking toward a New Year. She needs to keep this upbeat and remind people that she knows how to move. Please not WBT or VOL or Hero.

Weather (80,100) by Tyler from USA
So it's supposed to be 9-15 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday night. Does anyone know if her performance will be pre-taped or performed inside. Singing live in the cold with heavy winds is difficult for any singer. I know MC prefers warmer conditions and I remember the Beacon/Cesar palace basically being saunas. I spoke to a friend who's a TV director and basically said there's no way to heat an open stage. I'm not already making excuses for her but this a concern going into it.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,098) (80,099) by Edward from USA
She should perform Migrate (it should've been a single remix), We Belong Together, and Heartbreaker or It's Like That. She'd better stay away from Emotions for this event. She should wear two sets of earpieces, a set ready to be used just in case. She shouldn't risk it, it would be career suicide.

Re: What songs should she perform? (80,097) (80,098) by Bill from the UK
I agree about what's been said about Hero and We Belong Together. I'm also with you all about the Honey performance and the associated trauma is it caused lol. I would go for It's Like That, a new song (or premier the Busta collab, IKWYW part 2), and then round off with Auld Lang Syne. My dream would be for her to sing a rendition of The Perfect Year from Sunset Blvd. There was a British soul singer from the 90s called Dina Carroll who did a beautiful version of it.
