Show some humanity (108,836) by BFF from United States
Mariah comes across as absolutely exhausted - physically, emotionally, psychologically - in the interviews and on stage. I wonder sometimes if she just feels creatively stifled on the writing and recording side of things and maybe opts to do the tours instead because she's afraid of disappointing the fans. Or maybe she's overspending and knows that touring is the only way to keep the lifestyle she is used to? It also cannot be easy to cope with the end of her relationship with Bryan and the loss of her mom and sister within the same relative time frame. She also has a lot of people on payroll, and they have a vested interest in telling her "Yes, keep going" rather than "You need to stop and take care of yourself."

She definitely doesn't seem physically, emotionally or psychologically well right now. But she's obviously committed to more shows for the Mimi anniversary, and then there will, of course, be the annual holiday shows before long.

The return of the voice (108,835) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yes, I'm also hungry for new music. I was surprised about the "Mimi sessions". It was honest. I wish we could get one more time lyrics like on the [Butterfly] album or [Charmbracelet]. I still think a jazz album would fit well plus some soulful grooves. But I also hope Mariah is okay. We all know it was too much the last year. Of course legends are only human, like someone has [already] written on this board. I hope Mariah will recover and feel good again. Happiness and health is all I want for her.

The return of the voice (108,834) by Jamie from UK
Exactly, if people can't see something is seriously wrong then they are blinded. Do we get to the point where like Whitney people were walking out of concerts while she was straining on stage to be who she once was. And we all know what happened after that. Mariah will want to go on stage, she will want to be an artist and she will still crave to be adored, all stars are the same in that respect, but [you're] right, I'm mad at the people around her saying yes yes yes and not being honest with her. Now we've got this video for the Australian fans (which I'm yet to watch) which reports of bizarre answers and behaviour. Are we now unfortunately seeing her unravel in the public eye.

We're not talking about how she wants to live, we're talking about her health decline and how as someone who's loved her for a long time are upset to see her like this. It is allowed, it's not hate, it's love for someone.

The real question (108,832) by Sasha from Nomansland
To me the real question is why does she put herself through this? She looks so bored, weary and unhappy on stage, same on interviews. Everything she does in public seems to cause her such pain, like she's trapped in her own personal hell. She doesn't have to do it, she owes nothing to the world. She has far enough money to just chill and relax, enjoy life, take care of herself and only does what she likes. She could write and produce for others and stay away from the spotlight and bad lightnings that bother her so much. I really don't understand the point if she can't find joy in it anymore.

She possibly had a stroke (108,831) by Bobby A from United States
I was almost in tears, Shezz. It was hard to watch MC sing in that state. I can't watch the Mimi Sessions again. And Daniel Moore was just playing away on piano knowing he could have said something 3 years ago. Live singing is not good for MC right now. I want the best for MC. I think a new album filled with all the studio magic, new technology and personal lyrics would make me so happy than her performing live. I just wonder, were the Mimi Sessions planned and created after the Lambs' reaction to the Asia shows?

You all are killing me (108,829) by Stacey from USA
Exactly. Well said, Randy. And for the record, I ain't no "yass queen". Not saying anyone is calling me that. Just stating that fact out loud. Yeah, was she stiff? Yes. Would I love her to move around, enjoying the moment? Yes. At the same time, I applaud the effort. I loved the arrangements. I loved seeing lesser known songs like Circles and Your Girl getting shown the spotlight.

If MC can create the Mimi Sessions, why can't she record an album for the Lambily? I want to hear new songs to hear what she sounds like in 2025 with new technology, engineering, and instrumentation. It would help us not be so critical and possibly give us better insight through her lyrics what being Mariah Carey is like right now. I want my Butterfly MC back who gave the Lambily new music and MC's story through her lyrics. We deserve a new album after seven years.

I'm not mad at Mariah. I'm mad at the people behind the sessions, those who probably could give her honest feedback, but conveniently go with the flow instead. Michael also surrounded himself with sycophants and leeches who clap until the show was no more. You might like the sessions, but if you can't see there's something very wrong going on, I don't know what to think.

Dear people on this board, have you no heart? Honestly the negativity on this board is painful. Do any of you know what it's like to be her? It's waking up every day and remembering you're not allowed to just be. That if you sound tired, you're "washed up".
If you're quiet or having fun with yourself, you're a "diva".
If you gain weight, it's magnified - literally - with a lens. And now, if you're medicated [...] and are dealing with the loss of family members and the end of a relationship, you "had a stroke"? WTF?

Being Mariah is having your voice - the very thing that saved you -
become a measuring stick they beat you with. Your voice - your literal lifeline - being turned into a battlefield. Every note Mariah's ever sung has been dissected, including on this board. Praised, worshipped, mocked, measured. And when your voice is that good - the pressure to never slip is inhuman.

I guess for her lip-syncing isn't lying. It's surviving. It's choosing to still show up when the heartbreak is louder than the applause. When she may rather feel like grieving. How many times has she stood in front of thousands of us while screaming inside? She's been singing through breakdowns, betrayals, miscarriages, racist industry BS, and a horrible childhood and youth before she was even famous. And yes, sometimes she shows up because she signed the paper, not because she is feeling it. But she goes on stage anyway, because she knows that somewhere you might be out there. Some kid like she once was, staring at the ceiling, praying to be loved. And if at this point her lipsync can keep that kid alive another night, she'll wear the diamonds and fake it. She doesn't do music, she is music. This isn't a job. It's not even a career. It's how she breathes. If you call yourself a lamb, you should know as much, because that's what drew you to her. And even when she tries to disappear, the music doesn't stop coming. This industry effed her over, again and again, pimped her pain, tried to own her. When you're a legend, they forget you're human. So quitting might look like freedom to you, but to her, that would feel like letting them win. Because that voice, even cracked, even lip-synced, even trembling is still her. And as long as she's got it, she'll use it how she chooses. Not for the charts. Not for the Grammys. Not for those greedy ones of you who see her as a product that is to remain Daydream Mariah forever. For her. And for the ones who still need it. And if you don't need it, leave. She is an artist. She knows that when she walks on that stage, somebody in that crowd remembers who they are, because they see her still fighting to be. She was never supposed to make it. A mixed-race girl with a broken home, bipolar disorder, and a five-octave range?
Please. But here she is. Still here. Still selling out stadiums. Not because the industry let her.
But because she refused to disappear. So have some humanity inside you and stop projecting your unresolved issues on her. Imagine yourselves in her position. When she is ready, she will speak her truth. Until then, enjoy what she has to offer now, or enjoy her legacy. It's all there. She is as real as it gets right now, medicated and all. That is her, a human being. And she is still showing up, looking like a goddess, selling out, going number one every year. Love to you all.

Are you referring to the Mimi Sessions video? This might be only time I've disagreed with you, lol. I liked it. I thought her voice sounded great. The rich lower tones are where she should stay put. I do agree she looks stiff but didn't notice the slurred speech.

She isn't dying, you all need to stop clutching your pearls. Highly doubtful that she'd be touring if she just had a stroke. Not all humans are created equal and not all of them age the same way. Specially ones with neurological disorders that only worsen with time. I think it's commendable she put this out. You all want her to sit down and cry on national tv about her vocal decline. She's not doing that. This is her response to all the lovers and the haters. This is her voice right now. I don't think it was half as bad as some of you think it was. Any one who has remotely followed her in the last few years wouldn't expect anything much better from a stripped performance like this. There are bigger problems in the world to lose sleep over right now. Kudos to Mariah for that honest performance that we have all wanted for a long time.

I don't get it. This is MCs voice. It's what it has been for a very long time without all the background tracks, background singers and music. There's no slurring, stroke or sycophants letting her do whatever. I was thrilled yesterday because it was finally unvarnished truth. It was honesty. I mean besides the lashes and hair. And she didn't sound bad. I'm really upset at y'all response because basically it means you would rather have the lies and deceit. Maybe Special K was right. No matter what she does she can't win. I hate that we live in a world where whatever choice you make you'll find harsh criticism.

I appreciate the effort, but as a longtime fan, I can't help feeling heartbroken. Mariah deserves so much more respect, more care, more truth. It pains me to see people blindly cheering her on without regard for her artistry or legacy. I'm talking about the ass kissers, the "yass queens" who clap for anything without thinking twice. This verse is for you, as if Mariah were singing directly to you:

"So many I considered
Closest to me
Turned on a dime and sold me
Out dutifully
Although that knife was chipping
Away at me
They turned their eyes away and
Went home to sleep"

In the end, that's exactly what you "yass queens" will do. When the damage is done and her legacy lies in ruins, you'll simply turn your pretty eyes away, just like the others, and go home to sleep.

Mimi sessions (108,818) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I enjoyed it for what it is, yes her voice is different but we've known it for a while and we encouraged her to stop hiding behind smoke screens and just embrace her new voice and she did and I appreciate that. She looked amazing and snatched, the ambience looked nice and moody. Her singing isn't the concern for me, what's concerning for me is her energy. For some reason she's so rigid and robotic nowadays, I was hoping in a controlled environment like this she'd let loose a bit more. But it seems like she's stuck in one place and her face is not moving much and it's like she doesn't want to move her neck (how I look when I have a neck pain). Mariah used to be quite animated on stage - of course she wouldn't have difficult choreography but just walking around with the mike, flipping around her hair, scooting down etc. Now it's like she's standing there not making a single move. I also saw this interview of her with an Australian interviewer, it was a remote interview promoting the upcoming shows and the interviewer kept trying to make Mariah laugh etc but she just looked bored and checked out and again stiff, even while she's sitting.

She possibly had a stroke (108,817) by Jamie from UK
Exactly, some people need to be honest with her, and not just one. As a collective they need to be honest. She's a shadow of even modern day Mariah. I'm concerned something isn't right either mentally or physically. And I think it's got to a level that there's no chance of improvement. I get it, to her she's loosing the one thing that she's known for and that must hurt big time. But putting things like this out is only gonna hurt her even more. I'm reading on line comments like "I love her tone", all these yassss people are not helping. This voice that's on the Mimi lounge is not good at all. I'm just being honest. If she was a new singer and you heard those vocals, nobody would listen. Just because it's Mariah doesn't mean we have to say it's good. I'm very sad to see her this way, I would never have wanted this for her, but there comes a time when you have to bow out, work out what's going on and spend time on yourself. Mariah has had a phenomenal career and that will always be there, but I think it's time to accept that and don't tarnish what you had.

Her flat affect, stiffness and slurred speech are unfortunately consistent with someone who has had a stroke. I saw her in Vegas in July, nearly front row, and she was not like this. I wonder if the loss of her mother, her sister, her relationship with BT and general depression led to some form of stroke. She cancelled holiday shows and then in February was like this. It is certainly possible. She has too many people dependent on her for a damn paycheck who should be having her take time off and taking care of herself instead they continue to pimp her for a paycheck. Shut it down MC and take care of yourself. Please.

Thank you for saying that. I come on this board only intermittently because of the negativity here. I'm horrified by a lot of the comments and, even worse, the sheer glee some of these "fans" have in disparaging Mariah. This last comment was on the verge of mocking her. Whenever I read remarks like this, I always think, "God forbid she ever checks out this board and sees what fans say about her." I know she's not at the top of her game anymore - I'm not delusional. But I'm also not mean-spirited, and I'm not bitter because my favorite artist doesn't devote her life to me or give me exactly what I want.
