I always count Beautiful as the lead for MIAM, despite the gap between it and the album's release. The same happened with Kate Bush's The Dreaming. Sat In Your Lap was the "lead" single, but was released a year before the album and second single. But like Beautiful, the album would be incomplete without it.
From your list, GTFO annoys me so much because sonically, it is incredible. It is moody, it has a vibe, it's different, it's sophisticated, and it's mellow but has an undertone running through it as well. Why, on earth, she placed those ridiculous lyrics on top of one of her most original and fresh sounds is beyond me (admittedly it is a sample, but which lead single of hers isn't). Such a disappointment.
And yikes, Save the Day was completely erased from my memory haha. I'm like, Mariah. The Rarities has Here We Go Around Again and original Loverboy on it. You put those tracks out as a single in Japan. Why release Save the Day when that album was littered with so many wonderful songs? Ugh.

Dang y'all so mean about her new songs. I don't think Infinity was that bad. It was cheesy, but I actually liked her rap-singing on that track and the part where she's swiping left on guys and saying "no" is so memorable.
There's acoustic/stripped down versions of "I Don't" on YouTube that sounds much more mellow a lot less trappy and lets her vocals shine which I appreciate. The one Rasfa made is my favorite that I regularly play.
I can see "Boy (I Need You)" being an acquired taste, but I actually think it would've done well as a lead-single back in 2002 when it was released followed by "The One". The remixes for Boy are also so very underrated much like the Charmbracelet album itself.
Mariah Carey - I Don't (Where I Wanna Be remix) featuring YG - for anyone who wants to look it up on YouTube and Mariah Carey - Boy (I Need You) (Vince remix) is also my favorite of the Boy remixes if interested as well.

"Somewhat Loved" is totally fine as an album cut. I like it. As a single, I don't think it's strong enough. I actually like "Infamous" from "Empire" very much. I wish that it was promoted more. It reminded me of those late 90s/early 2000s pop/r&b crossover duets. In regard to the weakest singles pulled from her category (not album cuts), I would have to say:
1) I Don't - Her vocals are very weak on this song and YG rapping "I'll make you love me; even though you don't trust me" repeats way too damn much in the song.
2) Infinity - Because of most of the lyrics. However, I think her vocals on it sound great.
3) Save The Day - The mix sounds like a rough demo. I've actually heard demos that were better quality. The vocals also are also not up to par.
3) Boy (I Need You) - Not a bad song at all, but a bad single choice because upon its release, the original Cam'ron version was only 8 months old, and still receiving alot of airplay. Hence, many non Mariah fans thought it was just an additional remix version of his song. It would be like if another artist put out their own version of "Levitating" right now, while Dua Lipa's version is still on the charts.
4) GTFO - Again, her vocals sound weak and the shock value that she may have been looking for didn't resonate. There were no headlines saying "Mariah uses the F word in a song title". I sincerely believe the only reason she chose this as a single was for the F word shock value. Sidenote: I don't care about promo single or teaser - once you release it as a standalone track on iTunes and make a music video for it, then it is a single. I don't care what record execs say!
5) Loverboy - Yes I said it. The chorus of the released version does nothing for me. It sound slike background vocals waiting for a lead vocal chorus. The original intended Firecracker version brought the chorus vocals out more.
Nobody has mentioned "You're Mine (Eternal)", but I want to say that I love that track. I just don't think it should've been the lead single from MIAM. A more uptempo cut would've served better, such as "Thirsty", "Meteorite", or "You Don't Know What To Do".

I would have to start by saying that I love all of Mariah Carey's songs, however if I had to pick one that I like the least it would have to be Infinity. There is a good mix on YouTube called Jasmin's Club Mix that makes it more tolerable.

Haha exactly. There are a lot worse. Off the top of my head: Crapfinity, Can't Say No, Did I Do That, Infamous, Boy, and The Star.

Whatever happened to Randy? I guess he was serious last October when he said that he hated Save The Day and would no longer be a fan. So, when was MC's last great song that was released as single?

I completely agree with you. There are many producers out there with whom she could collaborate. She could make use of some quality writing now that she can't rely on her vocal acrobatics. I just don't know why she's not doing it.

MC will not receive any radio airplay again until she stops creating music that people can pinpoint a time in her life. People don't care about her personal life in her songs anymore. She's going to have to get co-writers like Olivia Rodrigo did and release songs that people can relate to. Olivia is hot right now. Jessie J has a new song co-written by Ryan Tedder called I Want Love. It reminds me of that Fantasy vibe MC use to have with her songs- fresh, hot and radio friendly. I believe she is listening in 2021. Just my thoughts on the beach in Florida.

Worst song ever made? (98,186)
by TJ from Norway

I agree with the person who wrote that she should record some music that she hasn't written herself. There's no melody, I barely call this new song music. It's a mess. The sound is from another decade and I don't understand why it even got released. It's like she doesn't want to get played on radio.

If I could go back, I would have picked Lead The Way as mine. Mariah's version of "You and I" is another song fit for a wedding and you can't go wrong with the classic "Vision of Love".

MC's new managment (98,183)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
I hope this is a good move, I think it is. Beyonce is a huge event. That requires a lot of preparation and a long pushed project. Mariah does more things in less time. Roc Nation only seemed to pull through with the production of MC's Christmas season. The rest of it they seem to leave up to her for short lived self-promo. It really hasn't been working well when she has so many little tours every year and does side projects in between. She loves to collab so much, this probably leaves her cold. If it weren't for the internet I'd never know when she's touring or coming out with anything. Which has nothing to do with promo either, but fans talking on social media. Yet, when she teamed up with Apple, they promoted her and got the word out. If her manager is also a partner at this new place than she's likely to get more attention to all of her extra projects.

Somewhat the same, but "new"? (98,181)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
This sounds like the same kind of music she's been making over the past few years. Like "I Don't". Or songs from Empire. I will say "Where I Belong" is a song she made with Busta back in 2017, so who knows when MC actually contributed to this song? It may be a few years old too. Don't we always hear she's making new music every year, but wonder where it is? I like it. It's good, but it's not original or creative for a "Mariah" record for me. I don't see anyone, but MC fans and general R&B fans being on board with this. I actually expected more of a reaction from the general public for Where I Belong. I've heard it on the radio a few times, specifically, on R&B stations.

I think there's a misunderstanding here. Somewhat Loved isn't Mariah's song. That's why she's "featured"' like how Bruno Mars was "featured" on Uptown Funk. It's not his song, it's the producer's song who have an album out despite he's singing because they don't sing. Terry and Jim have an album out and it's their first, they're not going to be singing on it. It's their baby, not Mariah's. That's why she's not on the picture. Mariah wouldn't be doing anything unless they ask, it's not her place.

I think it's great MC has an "undeniable sound". It's exactly why she's managed to enjoy a decades long career. You put on an MC record and there is no doubt it's a Mariah Carey record. How many times on shows like American Idol or The Voice, X-Factor, AGT, etc do we hear contestants get praised for that special sound, something extra that separates them from the crowd? You put on a Beatles record, Madonna, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson and ask yourself what ties them all together? Their undeniable sound.

Music Box. It's a good choice if you are looking for someone to sing it. It's sung mostly in her middle register with few transitions and inflections. Part of what Mariahs song so hard to replicate is all the transitions. She's whispering on second, diving to a deep note the next, only to jump up to a high belt and then go into her falsetto. Who can keep up with that - lol.
