Caution has some great songs, but other than the high notes on "Giving Me Life", there's not much of Mariah's voice in it. I have enjoyed that album though, it is a good album. I would take Caution over MIAMTEC anyday.

Exactly my point. R&B is not a one-layer genre, so why treat it that way? That's what I mean by Old Tired R&B. It has turned boringly formulaic for many artists. I'm not saying Bruno Mars saved R&B, but he's definitely exploring many of its layers making it sound fresh, interesting, and enjoyable. Definitely a breath of fresh air. "Leave the Door Open" is a gem. Miguel's "Adorn" is simply great, I can't count the amount I've played it ever since it was released. Mariah did something similar with the Emancipation of Mimi, she then had some great moments with with some songs here and there, but mostly it was all the same. R&B is multidimensional.

I agree with you Nikki! I went to the Atlantic City Caution show and the Bethlehem show which was the last. Atlantic City was just amazing. The energy, the whole vibe. So much fun and with the Glitter moments. It really was a great tour. I saw MC on her Charmbracelet tour which was the first time I saw her live and that was another unforgettable show and when she came out on stage for the first time in that silver two piece ensemble, I mean - if looks could kill-the audience would have all been dead. Add in the voice. I’m sure you know. I saw the Adventures of MiMi, Angels Advocate, Christmas shows at Beacon (more magical shows, especially the first two years ) and the Madison Square Garden show and Caution. Caution was def one of the most exciting and fun vibe. I loved the black dress that lit up with the pink caution color, the guitar player for My All was a stand out on that tour. I loved how she composed that, she did Portrait and broke down at the AC show which was a moment, and ATYNAF. Her closing in the Bethlehem show was beautiful with how she did Hero in that beautiful pink ball gown and the Tanaka came out with flowers for her on stage as it was her last of Caution. Ugh, this talk makes me miss Mariah on the road. Hoping 2022 brings more live shows and the return of Mariah!

It's weird because 8th Grade has so many fans, yet it's the only Mariah song I can never place immediately. I always have to do a quick lyric search or play the first few bars to know the song. As I'm writing this, I cannot remember it. This is the only song she's ever done that has not, for whatever reason, entered into my head and taken up permanent residence. So weird. It's not even because I don't like it. On the contrary, every time I play it, I love it.

I love 8th grade so much. It reminds me of a specific moment and type of songs back in the day. Let's Stay Together by Eric Benet, Stay by Jodeci, They Don't Know by Jon B, There U Go by Johnny Gill, this is how I hear this song. She did the impossible and literally captured the painful/hopeful/yearning/forlorn feeling of crushing hard in 8th grade. It's the chorus for me. I didn't even know it was possible to capture that energy in music again and yet it happened with this song. Love it so much.

Yesss, I love Stay Long Love You too, but I know many people are pretty "meh" on it so I didn't include it as a single. It's def my favorite off the album, along with With You, Giving Me Life, and 8th grade buuuuut I like every song.

I think that A No No would've at least charted since it's an up-tempto and an easy listener. GTFO caught the attention of both fans and non-fans when it came out, and even trended/hit #1 on iTunes for a short period. I imagine if that was A No No instead, then the numbers and reaction would've been bigger. But yeah, I agree that Cardi, Kim, and Missy would've been a moment and that The Distance could've been one as well.

Edward, Bruno Mars has proven that he can do justice to the great old R and B songs that he pays homage to. The genre has been fun and great, just obscured and segregated Gor the past decade, even barred for the mist part from the Grammys, except for him lately. Still get pissed at how they treated a Miguel with Adorn during his nomination year. Mariah herself has shown some good R and B moments with Dedicated, Me It Look Good and It's a Wrap before that, even Candy Bling. Mariah suffers from writing overwrought, too wordy songs on many not her most recent records. She needs to pare the stories down and craft the songs better and be able to tell it live. I do live Anderson Paak and Bruno on Open. Great song, giving honor to the great Dramatics, Chil-lites, Tavares, etc. Even The Jackson Five.

Agree, I love Caution too! It's better than MIAMTEC, MOAIA, and Charmbracelet. But I guess, it's sales and overall performance has something to do with Mariah's status after 28 years. Rare classic icon produces hit. Only Cher, as I recall, was able to hit No.1 with Believe in 1999 at 51 and Mariah is 48 then. It would be great if Mariah could break this record by Cher. Going back to Caution, I agree with A No No as promo or lead single then, remix followed by Caution (it has the radio vibe), Giving Me Life, and then Stay Long Love You. I think these singles could make a difference in its performance for these are new beautiful sounds of her. The released singles are old formulas. Clearly, it's not working anymore. Now, she can create a new, fresh and infectious sound that most people would love to hear from her. I am still hoping for another WBT moment. Oh well, we can only wish and hope for.

I wish "Stay Long Love You" got single treatment. It's an unpopular opinion but I love that song. It sounds to me like a baby between "Migrate" and "So Lonely" both of which are fire.

Yes, I don't understand the rollout they chose for Caution nor MIAMTEC. However, I think Caution should have been the lead single. A No No without a guest artist wasn't strong enough in my option and the 2 remixes we got didn't really add anything to the song's impact. Had Cardi, Kim, or Missy got on and actually turned it into a radio moment I could see it as a great lead single followed by Mariah all alone on Caution with a sleek video with crashing waves, moonlight, total island vibe. The Distance always gives me high school homecoming vibes. Maybe it's the spirit chant, but it would have been smart to release it around the turn of the season then and market it in that context.

Tours and shows (98,110)
by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa

I can't believe it's already been 2 years since I saw Mariah at the Caution World Tour. I loved the show, it gave me so much life. It just so happens that I got to see her on my bday and I won the ticket randomly to boot. The only other tour I've seen her on was Rainbow and I honestly didn't really love that show. Idk something about it missed the mark for me. At Caution she performed the songs I wanted to hear from the new album and the Glitter medley was so fun. She squeezed in some cuts I wasn't expecting and of course she threw in some hits. The vibe all night was just "feel good", who knew what we'd be hit with just a year later. If I could see any other tours or residencies I would hands down choose Charmbracelet and Angel's Advocate Tours. But if I could, I would totally relive my night at the Caution World Tour. The vibe was freeing, celebratory, and the whole room was beaming in joy and nostalgia. After the show the shuttle busses were filled with people of all ages singing her songs, we all left so much lighter than we were upon arrival. I'm so grateful to have been there that night. Did anyone else go to the Caution shows?

Caution deserved better (98,109)

Honestly, I feel like Caution should've been successful on its own. But I understand that's a sentiment among many lambs, and probably Mariah too which is why she's positing herself with the right management. Instead of 4 promo singles and 1 lead (when there's only 10 songs on the album), t should've been: 1. A No No (lead single) 2. Caution (promo single) 3. One Mo Gen (second single) 4. The Distance (third single)

I wasn't referring to you. I've never thought of you as a lamb who by default goes on a blaming rampage against anybody who has parted ways with Mariah amicably or not. It just seems that some people here have lost any sense of objectivity with anything Mariah related. I see perfectly ok praising Mariah and putting her on the pedestal, that's what most fans do, but not at somebody else's detriment. Let's say, if Mariah and Beyonce were to have an argument, without knowing, I wouldn't be saying Mariah is right just because I'm her fan. I'll say she's right because facts say so. But oh well, we're supposed to be on a super mega positive note on this board, let's just keep it so.

It's also going viral, everyone is reporting on it. I love how she responded to it by sliding in the "our #1 song", remind them who the queen is. Mariah is honestly a force to be reckoned with and the fact that she still regularly grabs headlines shows people are still invested in her. The only reason I feel like her music isn't doing well is because of wrong single choice, lack of aggressive promotion plans and most importantly videos with no replay value. I still think she continues to make quality music. I would love to see some experimentations and collaborations but I truly believe she can make a decent dent in the charts if she tackles the things I mentioned above.

Goes on to also show that Mariah has a lot of love for Jay Z, because there are always hundreds of rumors about Mariah and she almost never acknowledges them (and rightfully so because why waste her time) but she responded to this because she wasn't going to let fools get away with it.

I tell you anytime Mariah's name is brought up most people are so quick to believe the BS. Lambs are also included because so many of them swear that they know Mariah personally. I knew that the article was smoke, and mirrors based on the sauce. This is the same source that has paid her ex-siblings for stories. Also MC, and Hov have always respected each other so I knew that this was a fabricated story from the jump, but I appreciated Mariah's response to the nonsense.

MC shut that rumor down real quick. She responded on Instagram sharing a "Heartbreaker" video clip and basically nipping it in the bud. I'm glad she did it. I love their friendship and collaborations. She may have moved on to another management but at least they ended on good terms.

Yes and yes. I would say a jazz album would be my first choice. Even something in the realm of Love Deluxe by the group Sade would be groundbreaking for Mariah and well suited to her current voice.
