For TEOM, I remember her and her team wanting a more raw sound, which explains the good amount of live instrumentation and the jazzy, retro, soulful vibe of the album. This was a period that followed Glitter and Charmbracelet, where her voice has been widely reported and criticized to have been "shot", and so everyone was all so determined to prove the voice was still there. They even counted down to and promoted It's Like That using the tagline, "the return of The Voice". E=MC2 was a more relaxed affair, had far less vocally challenging songs as a whole, and the songs were simpler in structure. Much of her singing was pitched at a more comfortable lower range, especially in the verses. As for MOAIA, it was recorded throughout at a time when she reportedly miscarried, so that may have affected her tone. It was released just over a year after its predecessor as well, so she didn't have the luxury of time she had to make TEOM and E=MC2. However, Mariah's tone is notoriously hard to pin down as it really changes quite a bit from one album to the next. (Thursday 15 August 2019; 23:21)

I then purchased "Someday" cassette maxi single, which was also priced regularly. The same for "I Don't Wanna Cry". I think "Emotions" may have been discounted, but definitely not "Can't Let Go" and "Make It Happen". All of the Music Box and Daydream singles that I purchased were regular price. In regard to "Honey", it was discounted. However, "My All/Breakdown" was regular price. I honestly don't remember about the Rianbow singles, as I started to buy the cd maxi singles at that point, instead of cassette singles. "Loverboy" was $.49. So in actuality, there were only three discounted singles to my knowledge: 1. Emotions 2. Honey 3. Loverboy (Thursday 15 August 2019; 19:40)

Some of the critics said she sounded so relaxed and confident. As for Memoirs, she kind of went back to her whisper register and sounded good, but never close to its predecessor. It was once mandatory to do research and list facts instead of making up things as you go. But, I've frequently found many of them lying. Even to this day. Honey was a #1 debut. They didn't start her out with a discount. She held her own in airplay. By the end of the 90's, and the emergence of the internet, singles began to rapidly drop off much faster than they used to. So, it became a lot more commonplace for singles to be discounted to make room for new stock. But, that's after they've been out for awhile. Not while they're brand new. That wasn't "Mariah" that was for any artist. So, they're smudging facts there. Yes, record companies will buy back an overflow of unsold material, but that doesn't go through a POS system. They don't pay full price for it, they just make sure the retailers don't come out of pocket. That's another smudged fact by trying to pass it off as if that counts for sales and is unique to Mariah. I have many singles of Honey and none of them sold below $2. MC has some of the most expensive singles. Columnists will tell you her single was discounted to 49 cents. They won't tell you that's after her song fell off the charts and it's leftover stock. They won't tell you she has maxi singles for sale between $10-$13. The sheer fact they omit these facts makes these people's statements invalid. (Thursday 15 August 2019; 18:53)

Some publications have even declared it the Song of the Summer. I love that it's changed how the teenyboppers view Mariah and has piqued their interest in her back catalog. The first article explains the origin of the challenge, the second article is about how it went viral/became a meme, and the third article declares that thanks to the challenge Obsessed became the song of the summer. My local record store sold her single for twice as much as singles from other artists and when I asked the owner why he said he did so because her fans will pay. The My All/Breakdown single was priced as basically two single and the My All maxi single was grossly overpriced. Exactly. A small chain of record stores discounted Loverboy (some even gave it away for free) to make room for new releases, but when it was first released it was the same price as every other single in the store. The author of that article is a diehard Beatles fan and takes every opportunity to regurgitate this nonsense. Roger Friedman from Showbiz411 started this mess when Loverboy was discounted. He wrote an article in which he claimed all 15 of her #1's had been discounted. Like he wrote that article right after Mariah's NYE debacle. Pathetic. (Thursday 15 August 2019; 14:20)

Subject of Christmas (90,618) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway While we are talking about Christmas, and AIWFCIY possibly becoming Mariah's 19th #1, I have actually listened to another of her Christmas songs lately. I have gone through the worst struggles of my life the last couple of months, and the song that has helped me through is One Child. That song always gives me goose bumps and lately it has made me cry because it has given me hope. I have listened to the live version in Washington with the Obamas present.
