Letting go ain't easyyy, ohhh it's exceedingly hurtful. Haha but I agree, leave Tommy in the 90s. There's newer men to shade.

Promo and MV (109,172)
by Shezz from Pk

I hope she's performing TD at BET and no Mimi medley though I would not mind an It's Like That to TD transition like the MC16 teaser clip.
As for the different guys in the song - either they should all be fictional or all past relationships. Would be weird for her to talk about someone from her old music video (motor cycle guy) but then computer boy toy also sounds like the TMB guy. Some say that's Nick though the forever guy sounds more like him or that could be Tanaka as well.
I also thought Tommy references now are a bit old and tired but maybe she did it because it made the verse more interesting and dramatic.
I wonder what her insta pic with the guys is about... bet maybe?
I think her MV video will definitely have a bunch of these guys in the video. She hinted at that in one of her interviews. They asked her about the guys and she said "you'll have to watch the video".
I wonder if they have a remix lined up already or are they waiting to see how it performs.
I'd be over the moon if the song just charts. What was her last single to chart? I don't think any of the Caution singles charted. Nor did I Don't and Infinity.
Was #Beauituful her last new song to chart? None of the remixes charted. She does not have the fan base for her songs to have a decent debut, at best it could work its way into top 40. Which would be big for her. TD is good but it's no Believe. Her best shot at the charts is a pop song with mass appeal.

Do we know if Mariah is scheduled to be on any tv appearances and what her promo schedule looks like? I know she'll be at the BETs but any other appearance? It looks like radio is playing a quite a bit, is this something we've seen with her last few releases or is this new? For music video, what do you guys think will be her vision. Excited for her working with Joseph so I hope there's some story line. I wonder if she'll do a parody of her previous relationships or her previous music video leads because the lyrics hint at both or I might be overthinking it. 1) The one about sing sing and evil king is of course Tommy. 2) The motorcycle man had a Yen for me. Is this a hint at Tanaka who's part Japanese and had a thing for motorcycles or is it her male lead in Sweetheart or even Miguel in #B. 3) The computer nerd has to be TMB unless I'm missing something haha. 4) The man in construction moving pounds through customs. Is it James Packer or Wentworth Miller (WBT/Prison Break because his character was a structural engineer in think in PB). Some people say the moving pounds through customs could be Tanaka too because apparently he was detained in Brazil. I haven't heard about this before though 5) "Said we'd be together, but you didn't stay forever. Now I guess it's just whatever 'til the twelfth of never." This is probably Nick because Mariah was super in love and thought it's forever and "twelfth of never" probably because he has 12 kids
So I wonder if she'll do a parody like that which would be hilarious. Or if it'll be more touching and looking at the camera hahah just joking.

Thank you, Mara, I really appreciate it, lamb. And absolutely, feel free to talk about anything here. A lot of the lambs have evolved mentally, we're way past just nose job and ensemble discussions.
People are so entitled they assume everything on the internet need to be catered to them. But the truth is, many of us are interested in deeper things now, especially because, like you said, Mariah's in a whole different league. She's in that legendary category with MJ, Prince, and Whitney. And we all know how they exited life.
With your shout out, I can finally say that people appreciate my deep dives organically, not because I created fake accounts to hype myself up, like some out-of-touch folks have insinuated here. (Who even has time to fake likes?) But yeah, I've seen those clips too. Smear campaigns are real, it's a thing of the mafia. And with this major new deal Mariah just signed, I can't help but wonder is what's the catch?

I'm so excited for midnight. I can't believe we are finally getting a new studio album. We've been saying MC16 for a long time now and I don't think any of us expected this roll out. Everyone was all wrapped up in Mimi's 20th anniversary and then thinking about the Barbara [sic] song with Walter that is so exciting, let alone this. Mariah looks fierce in these promo shots. Especially the red lip and darker hair shot. I wonder when they were taken. Someone said this was recorded last June which would be before her tremendous loss. I am excited to hear Anderson's influence on this track and the album. He has some interesting and funky songs and I'm excited to hear where Mariah goes with this sound. I love the drum part of the song right before the clip cuts out. It sounds like a sample of something but I can't place which one. Looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts tomorrow. On another note, Lambi I tend to agree with you and worry about Mariah and what they do to people of her status especially when it involves money. I noticed a lot of M's past with a clownish blond rapper has surfaced a bit online again and Damizza is back at it again talking about things around that very hard time for all of us especially Mariah. Who knows the real truth with all that. I just pray for her daily and to keep her safe and healthy and for her children as well. This industry is not all that people think it is with the glitz and glamour I'm sure. It's got to suck a lot out of you. Don't mean to make this a downer message. Cannot wait for new music and hear where she is at creativity at the moment.

I agree. Mariah's already given us some iconic songs that dealt with her trauma from that marriage, "Side Effects" being the most powerful and raw in my opinion. At this point, still throwing shade at Tommy feels unnecessary. She already went through her metamorphosis with "Butterfly", and found a renewed IDGAF freedom with TEOM.
Lyrics that hint at Tanaka or Nick make more sense, they reflect more recent chapters in her life. But revisiting Tommy, decades later, feels a bit tired. She's 56, he's 76, it's time to "Shake It Off".
Or who knows, maybe she's just waiting for Tommy to clock out permanently so she can drop a song called "Dirty Coffin", reminiscing about how "important" his presence was in launching her career. Poetic closure, right?

Article: Mariah Carey makes a "Dangerous" comeback (109,167)
by Travis from USA

As much as I love her and she's always been my all time favorite artist. It's unlikely that this new single is going to go anywhere because she's considered a legacy artist now and she hasn't had a regular #1 hit since "Touch My Body" in 2008. All of the lambs have to truly come together to make even a top 40 hit happen, however, I feel that most lambs are always taking the time to be too critical instead of focusing on supporting her.

Type Dangerous is actually out-streaming Big Energy by a slight bit, so that's a great start.
It's all about the long run. But these debut numbers matter, it signals to industry people and possible collaborators that her name alone can pull these numbers. What happens after comes down to promo and being in the right place at the right time.

Don't forget GTFO hit number one on iTunes as well but failed to chart. Streaming counts the most and her numbers there are still pretty low I read on another site. Though that in no way means they can't pick up. Right now the song is only hot with the lambs. It could eventually spread to the masses. So many songs creep their way up the charts as they gain a wider audience. First week numbers aren't everything.

Yes she needs to stop throwing shade at Tommy, it's getting a bit tired now. They even exchanged positive comments when AIWFCIY went to number one finally so not sure why she has to keep up this hatred. Unless she regrets leaving him who knows, but surely by now she should at be over all that.

I agree. I know Lambs and fans are used to seeing chart success within the first week or two, but we have to remember that this is the return of MC after 7 years. This first song may be a slow burner. Let's see if streams pick up after her BET performance. Other than some of the big names nowadays like Taylor, Beyonce, Sabrina, etc. a lot of songs take a while before they hit the charts. If you use Spotify there is a playlist called rising pop. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to a song for 6+ months or more before it makes its way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

100% agree. A No No to date is a favorite of mine. It feels like a fun sister to SIO. That song had so many fun moments and quotable viral worthy lyrics like "snakes in the grass it's time to cut the lawn, Ed Scissor hands aka I cut you off". I love it and I love the whistles she did in one of the remix at the end. It's super catchy. I think Mariah really wanted Cardi on the remix. But ended up with Shawni and Stefflon Don. With a hot feature and more promo that song had a lot of potential.

I always thought Shake It Off should've been released much later. They didn't really realize how monstrous We Belong Together was going to be. It ended up staying at the top for a lot longer than anyone probably expected. What's crazy though is how Gen Z brought Obsessed back to life. Had Mariah pushed the promotion to the extremes it could've been her 19th #1. It's A Wrap is also another one, it became clear that the song had a lot more potential than people gave it credit for, it deserved way more attention. But my biggest bummer will always be A No No. Such a great '90s homage, and the way she mirrored the beginning of the chorus with TLC's "No Scrubs" was genius. Perfect ear candy. But the label let it fade to oblivion. Such a freaking shame. I was hoping they'd finally do her right after they let With You flop. It's like they missed the mark at every turn.

I noticed yesterday watching some radio interview clips - her energy and enthusiasm varies quite a bit depending on the interviewer. She was very animated and enthusiastic for a couple and totally disinterested in the others. If she knows you, has a history with you and you know about her music and black culture, she will be way more relaxed and open. Just an observation, to most of the white interviewers she was a little cold and reserved. Maybe it was just a coincidence that she was not too familiar with them. Anyone else noticed this?
I mean I don't blame her - not everyone can fake enthusiasm for small talk with strangers, but if you're out there promoting your music, wanting them to play your songs, you have to present a friendly front. Or don't go to the ones you don't feel warmly about.

Agreed. The saddest one is SIO. That song is perfection, was sexy, fierce, clever lyrics, catchy chorus, top notch video, Mariah's revenge era confidence and so much more I'll forever be upset that it didn't get to be #1. Obsessed is another one. It was ahead of its time, it's so viral on TikTok and with the younger generation. Loverboy too was ahead of its time. The pop-y retro style is so in right now, Sabrina Carpenter has her whole aesthetic wrapped around that style. Problem with Mariah she's ahead of times and people only later realize how her songwriting was always 10 steps ahead of the music industry.

It almost feels like Mariah is told not to rumble as she is a known rumbler, possibly because speaking at length might reveal cognitive decline. She keeps her answers short, which creates awkward silences that the interviewers scramble to fill. She has literally never been this bad at interviews. I understand it's early in the morning, but it's hard not to notice how little she's giving. It's actually uncomfortable to watch. The interviewers, on the other hand, were clearly trying to make the conversation interesting, despite the challenge. They're obviously not the biggest lambs but they were warm and did their best to work with what they know about Mariah. But it's tough when you're not getting much in return. Referencing this interview by the way. I can still defend Mariah's past quirky moments - like "I don't know where the mf is" or "back up darling, you're killing me softly" or "I bet I don't like this game" LMAO. Even the "no no no no no well you don't wanna hear about 9/11" had its charm. But these recent interviews? It's getting harder and harder to defend. Mariah gurl, what is wrong?
