Mariah, please be ready (103,997) by Bobby A from United States
MC doesn't have that energy like she had before Memoirs. Her total artist package diminished after E=MC2. After Memoirs, MC became dillushioned with the music industry. Every album after 2008 failed to reach the masses. Every single tanked at on charts. Her vocal ability was being questioned by everyone. The focused and driven MC checked out years ago.

Mariah, please be ready (103,996) by Edward from USA
I just hope she learned from last year. The first show is supposed to be an indication of what's to come, it should be just great. Artists tend to do well on the first few dates of their tours. Some of them sometimes get sick along the way, but everybody understands that.

Mariah, please be ready (103,995) by Andrew from the UK
It's hard to find a comparator for a singer but when a tennis player has an injury they do not sign up for a circuit of Grand Slams and tournaments. When a rugby player has a pulled hamstring, they are taken out of the season. If you can't sing, don't get on stage - and charge money for it?

This sounds mean, maybe it is. And I think if people know what's going to happen and they buy tickets to it, then I'm all for that. But very majorly supportive of people like Adam who chooses not to buy high-price tickets to something very average. The Caution tour was Mariah's first tour in the UK I didn't attend since the Rainbow tour. Because I, likewise, didn't see the point. I'd rather spend the money on a vacation - which is what it costs now.

However, I think you're missing the crux. It isn't that Mariah isn't signing so much, it's that she doesn't move, she doesn't banter much, she doesn't do much of anything. I remember attending the Christmas show at the O2 not far from me: I could see she was reading an autocue of what to say. "I have my own reindeeeeer." That isn't just a loss of confidence, that's a loss of dignity, wouldn't you say?

When someone is asking Mariah to be prepared, it's a grave, grave state of affairs that this needs to be requested. But, I do hope she puts on a good show and doesn't fill YouTube with yet more toss.

Mariah, please be ready (103,994) by Will from England
It's very true that from 1990 to 2008, she was very confident on stage and quite rightly so. Her voice was in control, she could do anything she wanted with it and it would be there. 2009 onwards, she has suffered from persistent public vocal mishaps:

1 - Michael Jackson's funeral: Her first mishap where her voice cracked and it was talked about in public. However, she had many strong performances after this.

2 - Rockerfeller mic leak: Her first major public scandal on her voice, which saw her pull back from performing on the show after 3-4 fantastic annual performances. I believe this is where the majority of her fears of performing started in earnest, and for her to never have a something like this happen again, relying more on playback for her harder songs later on.

3 - Good Morning America: Now it's difficult to pinpoint what the problem was here, whether it was the sound mix, playback failure or something else, but again, her performance of Beautiful got mixed responses.

4 - MIAM tour: The early stages of the tour were upstaged by her bronchitis and it took her a while to recover. But once she did, she had some great vocal moments again.

5 - NYE: We don't need to rehash this one.

Given that Mariah is someone that has always prided on her image, how she is perceived, and the one thing she prided on was her voice, to be able to have it perform flawlessly that would bring people to their feet in admiration and applause. Now, it is unreliable, inconsistent and does not do what she wishes for it to do. It has reduced itself down, giving her more heavier bass notes rather than the high notes she used to sail into with an ease. She doesn't know what it's going to do next, whether she can rely on it in public. So, taking all that into account, and the vitriol she has had from the public (need I remind you that even during the press conference for #1 to Infinity, she was asked whether there were gonna be many pre-recorded vocals), with the knowledge that she knows she is going to be filmed and have it analysed note for note, why are you surprised she has become less of a confident performer?

I don't understand from where this idea of Mariah being an "unconfident" performer still permeates? She was unrefined during the debut performances into Emotions perhaps, but 1993 - 2008 oozed confidence - granted: sometimes ebbing, sometimes flowing, but confident she was. It is only since Memoirs did Mariah have a personality transplant. I'm swaying to the idea that she was beamed up to the mothership and replaced with a somewhat imperfect and faulty replica.

It irritates me when she just wings it because it's so evident. Some people who are natural and confident performers (Celine, Whitney, Fantasia, etc.) could get away with it but performing in front of people is just not where MC is strong. She has even referred to herself as a studio artist in interviews. However, with constant practice and working with seasoned professionals, she could get there. I've never understood why she hasn't called Frank Gatson who has helped Beyoncé become the performer that she is today. For some reason, it comes off that she is only concerned with the glam aspect but doesn't really care about actually performing and giving people an experience at her shows. It feels lazy. I feel like she thinks "I'll just stand here, sing (lip sync) these songs right quick, collect my check and go lay back down and be pampered." If she won't practice and rehearse, she could at least properly warm up her voice. I'm going on a rant. Let me stop lol.

BiPolar plus recent facelift (103,991) by ADAM from USA
I suspect Mariah's low energy interviews are due to her bipolar condition. Mariah never addresses her bipolar diagnosis since she was blackmailed by Stella many years ago and had to come out about it in People magazine. It's also very obvious that she received a facelift this year as her face is pulled so tightly compared to what she looked like a year ago. She appears to be in a depression mode as she doesn't release music or support her projects (Butterfly Lounge) like she would when she was inbound a high energy mode. She's clearly going through the motions to make sure her holiday checks are cashed and doing the bare minimum. As a long-time fan, I gotta admit I saw tickets go on sale for NYC across 2 dates and didn't once feel the need to buy tickets. I don't feel she's worth the price of admission to get onstage and lip sync the same routine and hair and makeup schtick. It's really sad to see her go out like this. But at least I can decide how I am going to spend my money if this what she's going to do.

Yes, your sentiment is accurate: 1994 Mariah Carey has done extremely well with her Christmas Album and its lead track. This incarnation of Mariah Carey... not so much.

Interesting talk coming from a Madonna fan. Perhaps we should go over her appearance and never ending face warp while she tries to relive her youth on stage and does the same things she's done for the past 40 years? But, hey, Mariah's only had an annual hit over the past 5 years, a hit Christmas movie special that went #1 in 100 countries, and old songs so good that they went viral after newbies heard them. What does she know about sales?

Honestly, that's my concern as well. I know what she's still capable of vocally, but there have been so many times where it's just basic upkeep and vocal maintenance as her problem. She's not even trying. She still has a good arsenal of vocal abilities and now that she's older she's got richer low notes accessible to her too. Over the past couple of years, it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of prep, planning, or management before performances. She just wings it. If she's going to draw this much attention to herself and then not deliver, I don't see things ending well. Her hardcore fans will always love her, but this is the public entering the chat.

Article: Mariah Carey's savage insults to Wendy Williams go viral (103,986) by Nikki from usa
Yes, we saw that list, but it also showed who got the work done and some of that was the woman herself, Stella, Stella's daughters and some of it was Mariah. However, none of that includes going under the knife. There's no "surgery" to speak of. So, no, she didn't. The rest you can speculate all you like, but at the end of the day it is just speculation. Carey has been very upfront every year about whatever diet she's on and the exercise routine. She's had just about every body type over the years.

I was so surprised to hear Usher randomly mention Mariah. Like it has been so long that they collaborated. Mariah ofcourse didn't confirm it and said he didn't call her for the show yet. Everytime I hear Love In This Club (part 2) I wish Mariah was on it (she was supposed to be on it originally but it fell through). It'll be interesting to see why Usher said that because it'd be random for them to perform "How Much" which no one other than the lambily knows.

Usher was interviewed on the Today show and he said that MC could make it on his list of performers to join him at his Superbowl Half-time show. There is good a chance that MC may be on his new Coming Home album dropping the same day as his Superbowl Half-time performance. There was a rumour this past summer that he had recorded a duet with a popular R&B diva. Also, he signed a new record deal with Epic-gamma under his independent label mega with L.A. Reid, who is the executive producer on the album.

Surely you must know that Mariah will - almost undoubtedly - stand motionless front-centre stage for the entirety of the show and lipsync 95% of it? I'm not berating her for it (or, perhaps, I am?) but just stating it as it is.

This goes to most recent posts, including the Kimmel so-called "interview", performances and promos.

Would that I completely understood modern days audiences I would be wildly rich, but suffice is to say that music and musicianship wildly diverged from what it was in the nineties and noughties - in that *authenticity* became key. People nowadays connect with singers and musicians who appear down-to-Earth and (dare I say it) "real". Does Taylor Swift sell tickets and albums by the bucketload because she's a great singer or songwriter? I'd venture that's a part of it. But another part of it is her relatability. People connect with her. I feel like I connect with her. I feel that were I to bump into her in a pub in London we would have a pint together.

I see Mariah on Jimmy Kimmel and I hang my head in pity at what she has allowed herself to become. It is an obnoxious characature of what a "big star" is. It screams delusion. It screams obliviousness. It screams desperation.

Mariah will stand still on that bloody Christmas stage in the belief that it is *more* important to look good than to sound good or to move about the stage or to entertain. That's all the matters to her now. Looking good. And, well, does she? *Does* she? I thought she looked bloody awful - literally like someone threw a jacket over her before she walked onto the set in an attempt to save her dignity.

And if there's an argument to disprove this any of this, or any reasonably pitch to advance an opposing argument, I'd love to hear it. I'm all ears.

Mariah, please be prepared for your upcoming Christmas shows. Please do not step on that stage looking and acting as if you are under rehearsed and don't know what to do on stage because we can tell when [you] aren't ready (which seems to be the norm unfortunately). Please be professional and have your voice ready. And make sure your pre-recorded vocals match what you can do live. We hate a rough transition from live to pre-recorded.

Brandon, how could you not like that interview? Don't you find Mariah talking about lighting interesting? Not even about being late? Not "doing" time? Her "bad" side?

Don't you like Mariah looking like she fell asleep in a giant make-up bag? You don't like her being dressed like someone threw a jacket over a hooker to preserve some dignity?

Somebody ought to do a montage of just how many times Mariah has said or done all of this shite in interviews to maybe impress upon her that it's maybe something to do with her own behaviour that she can't sell records or tickets the the general public anymore.
