Good Lord, just enjoy the show (102,720)
by MC85 from Canada

You have no reason to apologize jaker20, at least in my opinion. Somehow I continue to feel shocked that the majority of posters on the board here consider themselves fans and claim to love MC and yet exclusively only post complaints, negativity and vitriol.
[...] Either deal with it and continue to be appreciative of her for the joy she's brought you or [...] off and stop spending your time crapping on her. I also wish her voice was in phenomenal shape. I would love a new album. Etc. whatever. She. Is. Human. Most of the posters here however seem to not realize that.

I'm sorry for causing drama, I knew as soon as I clicked submit, I regretted it immediately. You all have the right to criticize MC, but sometimes the words so extra. The suggestion that she has to get a surgery is a bit much, but I know you have every right to say what you want.
I was just disappointed. I enjoyed the show, and then when I come here, it's all negative. And it is the same all the time. Maybe I am just not getting it. Maybe I am living in another dimension. But some lambs are just happy to see Mariah, and maybe I have low standards lol, and then each time after that, you come here and it's all negative.
I already know that her voice is not the same. So I don't have these high standards, so I just enjoy the music and seeing her out and performing on stage having fun with everyone is all that matters. I'm sorry again, I didn't mean to be harsh.

My favorite 90s singles cover is Never Forget You/Without You. I love this cover because of the beige/almond background and MC's innocent pose. What is your favorite 90s singles cover?

New low? (102,718)
by "MariahHater" from Hell

What is sad right now is that, what if she has illness and not disclosing it to the world and just enjoying the little time she has left even with bad performances just to be "there". It's hella sad. The OSD performance was sad as it gets as B2M are downplaying their vocals to not overpower dear Mariah. We all know how a hard worker she was in doing her craft. If I were her and experiencing this, I would be frustrated and might kill myself but with her she has all that courage to go on for the lambs and her loved ones until she can't produce a sound anymore.

I agree Jamie. Do any of you guys remember Leona Lewis? I remember when she was on the [X Factor] and her subsequent two albums that followed, she was belting her head off, with crazy runs and transitions. The media was billing her as being the next Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston. Anyway she went from that, to being really pitchy, couldn't sustain belts and having other vocal issues. Though she still doesn't have the same voice as before, she was able to gain quite a bit of her voice back. I can't remember what she had, but she has some kind of disease or illness that caused major vocal issues not to mention body issues too. My point is we never know what goes on behind closed doors. Even though she looks amazing, Mariah isn't getting any younger and more and more health issues can develop, that can effect not only her body but her voice. I mean look at poor Celine Dion. I wish them all love and recovery.

No need to apologize. Like I said, I'm a huge Mariah fan. I would love to go see her perform in a concert. Even if she walked up to a tape recorder and hit play and let her original vocals play out, I would still be happy to see her. Lol. But I'm also torn because other than AIWFC and maybe WBT most younger people don't know about her and her body of work. We can easily throw around her accolades but most people don't know or frankly don't care. That's why I hate seeing consistent bad performances from her because it overshadows all of the great work that she has done, at least in the minds of most 25 year or younger folks.

Maybe she had a cold or viral infection, as during [One sweet day] that's is one serious decline in vocal ability, surely if that was the true state of her voice she wouldn't be arranging to sing one of her biggest hits with Boys to Men [Boyz II Men]. Yes her voice has declined over the years but to not be able to sing at all, I don't believe it's all due to her current vocals something else is at play here like illness.

I was taken aback by your original message but hell, I say what I want so you should be able to too. We are a dysfunctional family so it's no need to apologize. I think what's also frustrating to the negatives is that even though Christina Aguilera, Fantasia have lost some range, they still sound like themselves during the verses of their songs and only may struggle or duck the climaxes. MC doesn't even seem to be able to sing her verses. And to add insult to injury, to see Xscape, Chanté Moore and Patti Labelle still burning stages down in the last two years. Yea, I know. I know. MC has nodules, her voice is different, she has nuances in the way she sings, belting is boring as hell, the stage was too hot, the dressing room was too cold, she has the sniffles, a black cat crossed her path etc. You get the drift.

They do this every year. [censored] And I'm not saying that to be shady. It is a fact. These same posters run to make these kinds of thread each time it's like a broken record, it is actually kind of sad. Imagine telling someone to get surgery instead of just clicking log-out. This is the level of entitlement these people have.
It's always the same, I enjoy watching it, then you come here and it's the same copy-paste posts from 6 months ago. What is new here? Nothing. Mariah's voice isn't the same. People are there to celebrate her music, to be with her on the event, with other lambs, and have fun and joyous. These guys hold a microscope to see if she is lipping. How sad. It is 2023, no one cares. If you want her to sing to your level of expectations, go watch American Idol or some singing competition, or slip those records and CDs from 30 years ago.
Ps, did you see how people are dragging Katy Petty for her performance during the coronation last night? Same energy. [the rest or this message is censored]

Not to add insult to injury, but this is clearly voice issues not just vocal, as in singing, issues. I noticed multiple times when Mariah was speaking to the crowd, like when she yelled welcome Boys 2 Men [Boyz II Men], her voice broke and she didn't complete the phrase. That was just with her speaking. Something is very very wrong. But it's Mariah Carey, and if anyone can bounce back, it will be her.

"More concerned about the way she looks than anything else." Yes, absolutely. It's not necessary. I became a fan because of her music not because of the glamour. She's a beautiful woman, so no need for all this stuff. But yes, it's her choice. I just wish there would be less talking about glamour, I would love to hear more about the music.

I honestly think at this point she's more concerned about the way she looks than anything else, even her vocals. A few years back during the #1 to Infinity era they did a video of her "reacting" to each of her number ones. Instead of sharing interesting anecdotes/reflections about the songs/videos, she spent the whole time criticizing her outfits and hairstyles, saying things like "hideous, what where they thinking with this shot, dahhhling".
There are multiple examples of performances from the last decade where she gets to a difficult part of the song, and then stops singing to look at herself in the monitor and rant about her hair/makeup or how she needs a "glam moment". This hyper fixation on appearance (which no one cares about other than her) seems to be a crutch to avoid dealing with the reality of the state of her vocals (a convenient way to distract the audience from the fact that she's not delivering, maybe she's even starting to fool herself).
As far as Lovers and Friends, she looked amazing, better than she has in years imo. But aside from a few nice impromptu vocal moments, she also delivered one of her worst vocal performances ever. It seems that she's happy with that trade off.

MC seems very unhappy right now. She is not married. Her children don't have their father in the home. The man she thought was her lifetime husband disappointed her in so many ways. If you think back when MC performed Obsessed on her Nick's TV show, that was a woman who was in love and happy. During this time, we didn't cringe in front of TV everytime she performed. Her performances for the most part were on point especially when she performed when she was pregnant with Roc and Roe. When a person is not happy, it shows in their speech, weight, and overall confidence. The 90's MC would be doing all she could do to secure a record label with the right people behind her. However, MC has lost her drive because something is just not right in 2023.

All of this must be the toughest for Mariah herself. I always want Mariah to be confident on stage, and it sometimes baffles me how nervous and insecure she can be, even in the days she could sing her heart out. What I feel strange is Mariah the last years have been so happy and smily on stage, seems pleased when she has finished a song and the audience applaudes. But is it really that fun to actually feel that you can't hit notes you used to, know that what the audience hear is not what is coming out of your mouth? I would personally feel extremely uncomfortable knowing I am hiding the truth.

Haters & Lambs (102,706)
by Zachariah from Croatia

I am definitely a lamb, since the age of 10 (1990), all the way today and listening Lovers & Friends performance, I have to say that I think she can still sing, very well, but her problem is her shape - out of breathiness. I go from myself - soon to be 43, not old, but not young either, normal looking body (no belly or floppy muscles), trying to keep my weight in order but I don't run, don´t walk a lot and going up and down the stairs couple of times a bit faster - I am out of breath. I sing for my own pleasure and I noticed I have to really push harder to hold my notes and choruses. We all know Mariah doesn't radiates athletics vibe and I think it is taking its toll. Watching her on stage and trying to move or do any extra movement - panic.
That's my opinion. Love from Croatia and forever lamb, Zachariah.

Maybe that is one of reasons she and Tanaka broke up. He probably wanted her to get some professional or medical help for her vocal issues. You know MC doesn't like to be told what she should do. I posted prematurely before I saw the rest of the videos. Can we all come to terms that we may never get a new Mariah Carey album? How can she produce an album with the state that her voice is in? It is sad that MC's career is on the verge of being over.

MC is a freakin genius. It's ironic that each song was composed with her musical director at time - Walter A., Big Jim Wright, and Ben Margulies. Her three most influential collaborators are these men. Erase their history together and we would not have gotten some of her biggest hits or Lamb favorites.

I say these comments out of love. I agree with you Randy. I know Mariah loves to sing because it's literally her life and passion. I never would ask nor want her to retire. Even if she only produces songs in a low register with no belts, I wouldn't have a problem with that because I love her artistry. But with everything you mentioned in your post about all the smoke and mirror tricks that Mariah does, I can't help but wonder, doesn't that have to be torture for her. I mean I can't imagine standing on stage having to do all these tricks to prove your voice is still there, while worrying that something can, may and probably will go wrong in front of hundreds of not thousands of people. I just hope people on her payroll aren't forcing her to do all of these events if she isn't able or up to it.

At this point I wish she still had the vocal ability exhibited in I Don't. I don't know where MC's career is headed now without being able to produce anything good in the studio now. We are currently in some uncharted territories with MC's career.

New low? (102,695)

That would be three but what kills me about this whole thing is how the internet keeps giving her writing credits. The only reason I thought she co-wrote All My Life was because if you google it all of the sites say she wrote it with Rick James. I don't know why she didn't collaborate on Almost Home. Isn't that Stargate whom she's worked with before? But yea the internet has me stating the wrong information and you know how much I'm about the truth.

My final thoughts (102,698)

As many of you know I rarely post on here even though I read all the comments. I'm just posting a lot now, not only to vent, but to say that I'm truly worried and saddened. I hope Mariah will be able to bounce back in some way. My wish is to get one more Rarities or MC 30 album, with one new song, that she can studio piece meal together, if she has to, and then for Mariah to enjoy her time with her family, and other business ventures, including her movie about her life. I hope she doesn't retire though, if she can just show up to shows and instead of performing a huge difficult set list, that most "good" singers now days wouldn't be able to get through, she should just sing one song from start to finish. No tricks, no gimmicks, no smoke no mirrors. All I wish is to be able to stand before Mariah one day and hear here gracefully sing Hero or Vision of Love, with a piano or guitar. Ok my rant is over. Take care everyone, and remember, everyone's opinions matter.

Maybe I'm missing something? (102,697)

So I watched the concert and to be honest, this is how MC has sounded since Caution. No better no worse. The strained sustained notes to prove she can sing. The cutting up of long notes and adding stacatto "hey hey". The moments of clarity that we all know are backing tracks. Background singers singing verses that don't have backgrounds on verses on the original. The fidgeting with the ear monitor. The tossing the hair from side to side when she lips a note in case she miscounted how long to keep her mouth open. All of this is normal. So to come here and see you guys say it's a new low or it's bad baffles me. Some of you are acting like the house just caught fire. It burned down a long time ago.

Good Lord, just enjoy the show (102,696)

Hi Chicago Lamb, yes I loved the show, the show of Boys 2 Men [Boyz II Men] singing, while literally almost every note that Mariah sang did not come out. Oh and I'm not talking about "did not come out", as in pitchy or flat, I mean no discernable sound came out of her mouth. Something is very wrong and I hope she can fix it. We can show love to others but also point out flaws where they should make improvements. I mean, I can't believe I'm saying this, I'm no professional but I honestly could have sang all those songs better than Mariah.

"There's people called haters and we give them positivity." Why do some nit-pic and criticize? Is is because you have a platform to do it? Is it off-base expectation? Time to think about it. Just enjoy the show.
