Re: Change (99,156) (99,162) by TJ from Norway
Not only the air, but the resonance. I believe it was Barbra Streisand who said she would never do any changes in that area because it would change her voice.

Why didn't the rhinoplasty effect her voice?

Gladys Knight said early in the 90s that MC sings out of her range. I wish I could find the interview. She was referring to all of the belting.

Morgan cannot attest to her behavior post divorce, as he is jaded, jealous and has been absent from her presence for years now.

Why is a woman so talented collaborating with a restaurant associated with bad health? She is too good for McDonalds. SMH.

@Bill. Of course it won't work if you drink glasses of alcohol with it. It does work if you are avoiding vices. Morgan confirmed that since her divorce she has consumed large amounts of alcohol to deal with the stress. Her vices, stress, and lack of discipline/rest are the cause of vocal decline. When you get a rhinoplasty done they also open up the airways. I've had two and my singing and speaking voice have had no change. In fact, I breathe better now. There was a vocal analysis on [YouTube] for each era that like an hour long and they discuss the rhinoplasty that could have helped with breathing during the [Charmbracelet] era. If the rhinoplasty and boob job hinder her vocals in the 90s, how was she able to bounce back vocally during the [Charmbracelet] tour? She made sure she slept enough each day and stayed away from alcohol and blunts. I lost my voice years ago and when I finally stopped smoking, reduced my stress level, and started to get some consistent sleep each night, my voice slowly came back.

Re: Change (99,154) (99,156) by Bill from the UK
She's been pumping a humidifier at her vocal chords since the late 90s. It doesn't work. And yes, of course rhinoplasty would impact your voice. The reshaping of the nasal cavity would massively impact the air passing through and your breath control. Why do you think her voice sounded full bodied on her first four albums, then nasally and thin from Daydream onwards?

Re: Change (99,152) (99,155) by Jamie from UK
Makes you wonder why she had the Rhinoplasty's I'm sure she would have been advised against it, I bet MC thought she would be immune to vocal changes from the surgery. I did like the fact she said the other day that her voice was in the best condition for a long time, it's like she's acknowledging it now, even though I don't think it is in great shape. If I had that gift I would do all I could to protect it.

Re: Change (99,153) (99,154) by 123 from USA
A rhinoplasty has no effect on the cords. She's had at least two and they would help with breathing other than the obvious cosmetic changes. Breast implants may impact breathing but none of her cosmetic superhero would effect her voice. Stress, sleep, and vices (alcohol and smoking) would affect the voice. She isn't as disciplined anymore and she loves to drink. Her vocals technically change with each album. Putting down the alcohol and getting 8 hours of sleep with a humidifier would help but then there is the real world and life gets in the way.

Re: Change (99,145) (99,153) by Bobby A from United States
How different would MC's voice be now if she took a 5 year break after Merry Christmas? Daydream and Butterfly albums and tours never happened. MC returned with Rainbow in 1999. I think that she would sound like Emotions. The Maxwell approach could have worked for MC. He has only released five albums in 25 years. Wow. His voice still sounds the same even after his vocal chord surgery.

Re: Change (99,151) (99,152) by Bill from the UK
Yes, I said this years ago and got crucified for suggesting such a thing, but the rhinoplasty plus her breast augmentation would have had an effect on her voice in terms of breath control and tone. Her voice lost its "body" in 1995 and the Daydream album was very nasally and brassy. Equally at this point her melisma became all disjointed too. Those elements (plus further rhinoplasty and breast augmentation later), and the overuse of alcohol and marijuana, have all contributed to the voice we have today. They were her choices and I'm sure she stands by them. As Mariah says, it is what it is.

I think 2-3 very minor rhinoplasties have had an impact on her tone to some extent. But Jamie, I agree that her technical approach changed from album to album, opting for yes, a more relaxed delivery leading all the way to Rainbow.

Butterfly 25th anniversary (99,149) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
Next year would be Butterfly 25th anniversary and I want Mariah or her team to upload official live performance from that era on Mariah's account:
1. Honey live at Top of The Pop 1997
2. My All live at Saturday Night Live 1997
3. Butterfly live at Late Show with David Letterman 1997
4. Close My Eyes live at Rosie Show 1998

Re: Uncertainty (99,142) (99,148) by T from USA
The reason her musical director might be going back to the well for the older stuff is because the older stuff was really that good. It's pure magic. If she's going to revisit the past, why not start with a person from the past who is part of the legacy? Why not team up with Walter Afanasief outside of Tommy's control and see what will materialize. Maybe the best stuff yet.

Her voice is phenomenon on Emotions. Not one bad song or vocal moment.

Change (99,145) by Jamie from UK
Why do you think Mariah changed her style of singing? I noticed a change on Daydream initially then more so on Butterfly. She no longer chose to sing in full voice all the time and opted for a softer more whispery sound. My favourite albums are Emotions and Music Box, her voice ooozes soul on those tracks even more so on Emotions.

Do you think this switch in style has led to her vocal decline, and she forgot how she used to sound? Or do you think she had no choice? Do you think she could sing in a fuller voice now instead of her current tone, as I think she would connect musically and lyrically to a larger audience again if she could choose to sing that way again.

New album wish list (99,144) by 123 from USA
Since she is also working on new music. I already want to put in a request. I need her to work with Salaam Remi. I have no idea why she had not worked with this man. From his work with Amy Whinehouse, Fugees, and Miguel, it's a no brainer. I love Snoh Allegra's "I Want You Around" and can totally hear Mariah singing it. My second request is that she gives us tone with this album like she did with the live vocals during the Rainbow era. Gone where the high belts but she made up for it singing in full voice so her buttery tone shined through. That's what I love about Snoh's voice. She doesn't have to do a lot because her tone is so satisfying. No whispers in caps.

Re: Uncertainty (99,136) (99,143) by 123 from USA
Hi Edward. I think she is stripping the songs down and doing a "live" sounding version. The 2008 Hero was horrible but her voice was in tatters in 2008 with only a few memorable performances at the end of the year when she was pregnant before she miscarried. I agree is best not to recreate her classics but I'm cool with new versions as long as she sounds good. Crossing my fingers that if she decides to do any upper belts that they do get studio enhanced. It makes her voice sound thin, sharp, and nasally. I really loved the stripped down version of Love Story she did for MTV years back.

Re: Uncertainty (99,139) (99,142) by Bobby A from United States
MC must be tired of spending countless hours in the studio recording 50 plus tracks for a new album knowing the state of her voice. I don't understand her mindset right now. She needs a growth mindset and not a fixed mindset. I think Daniel Moore III is filling her head with this nonsense. She had more of a drive when Big Jim was her musical director.
