I think Mariah should leave her classics alone, unless she's going to make accoustic versions of them. If a song won't be improved upon or made into an acoustic version, I don't see the point in ramaking them. When she took on "Hero" again about 7 years after its release, the outcome was madiocre at best and that was 20 years ago. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but too much hype for nothing lately.

Caterpillar (99,135)

All this talk of Mariah "reimagining" tracks from Butterfly is making me nervous. Hero's reworking in 2008 was abysmal, and her voice was in relatively good shape back then, although nothing by comparison to the 1993 vocals. To take one of her most iconic albums and tinker with, what many consider to be, her masterpiece is such a massive gamble that I worry if it is going to pay off. Close My Eyes on The Rarities was a car crash, and I imagine everything else will be if she's using her 2021 voice. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) did not sound good. At all. I'm sorry but a fact is a fact.
The Butterfly anniversary needs to be commemorated with the original album remastered in high resolution, the videos upscaled to 4K, the accompanying tour released as a DVD and audio, and any outtakes from the original sessions. Plus a new booklet with some previously unreleased photographs from the album shoot.
Otherwise, it's just another nail in the coffin for her legacy, by destroying an album that was so critically praised universally, regarded as her "magnum opus", and that contained her most delicate and vulnerable vocals ever recorded. It's a beautiful work of art. These intentions will be a massive step backwards and crap all over one of her best albums.

Yeah, I hope so too. The songs from "Butterfly" are so perfect, there should never be a "new arranged version" of these wonderful songs. I'm waiting for new music, not "new" versions of "The Roof". Please not.

I would be down only to hear one song. That would be The Clarks Sisters turning Vision Of Love into a full going to church gospel song. I hope that is the song she tapped them for. Leave The Roof as a classic Mimi.

She's working on a new version of the roof at the moment. She confirmed on an interview also confirming that she filmed the creation dying her Butterfly Lounge Atlanta sessions.

It's happening. She already did [...] and has been into reimagining her songs as of late (oh Santa, CBPCH, WBT, etc). The Butterfly Lounge is recreating Butterfly the album for the 25th anniversary next year. It's why she said she's planning something with [...]. Those songs are so closely tied to her memoir that it's the next logical step to get people to hear them again. Notice The Rarities didn't have anything Butterfly related? That's because it's all happening next year.

I have a feeling that may be what the Butterfly Lounge is too. Re-arranged existing songs and maybe even with guest appearances on different songs.

Forget about fresh. Word on the street is that she's reimagining songs like [The Roof and [My All] for [Butterfly's] 25th anniversary in 2022. Brandy and the Clark sisters would be part of that project.

So it looks like she is working on a project documenting her creating music in the studio. Finally. If this isn't the best idea in years. I feel like this might be the filming though if reinterpretations of her previous songs (We Belong Together, The Roof). Wondering what she cooked up with her band in Atlanta. Question, any albums or artists you'd like Mariah to work with on a new record? What are people wanting from the new album?

Adele's "30" is overrated and quite a bland album, I must say. EOM is just about the only single worthy song on there and is losing steam. AIWFCIY is still growing, it's inevitably gonna hit number one.

Totally random, but I wonder if Mariah is listening to this album. It's a true R&B album and I think anyone who likes Mariah's more "urban" sound would vibe with it. I also think they'd sound so good together.
I like No Love featuring SZA and Throw It Away. Summer's backing vocals reminds me of how Mariah layers and their writing styles are very similar. Obviously Mariah's voice is supreme, but stylistically, I bet Mariah would love this work.

"Easy On Me" by Adele and "All I Want For Christmas Is You" are expected to take the top 2 on next week's Hot 100, with every other song far behind them. They are predicted to be within 5% of points of each other, with "Easy On Me" as the favorite, according to Talk of the charts. Will AIWFCIY dethrone Adele's domination?

It's only $5.27 including tax. Lol. It will grow on you next Christmas, possibly. Tweet MC about releasing Where Are You Christmas next year. She listens to me on Twitter. That's how we got Kirk Franklin this year. I am trying to hook her up with Madicin for MC16.

Uncertainty (99,117)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I have never ended a year before with so much uncertainty about MC's plan for a new album. We just don't know the type of sound that she going for this time. All we know is that she has recorded a song with The Clark Sisters and reached out to Brandy and Maxwell for duets. I hope that she works with Drak-kar "Madicin" Wesley, Blake Strauss, Bizness Boi, Rex Rideout, Jazmine Sullivan, Victoria Monet, Sevyn Streeter, Aaron Lindsey, Babyface, PJ Morton, FWDSLXSH, Ryan Tedder, and Elijah Blake. I believe that she has another Daydream or Butterfly left in her. She just needs some fresh new songwriters and producers to help guide her into new territory. She is going to have some heavy competition from Beyonce, Rihanna, The Weekend, Sam Smith and Maxwell. 2022 is going interesting because of the tours happening too.

Where are you Christmas? (99,116)

I want her version of this song, this Christmas. Because those lyrics are personal and I feel this was one song she should not (all caps) have given to Faith Hill nor any other singer to record (vocal issues and all). It's such a beautiful, beautiful song and really hits home. I loved it from the very first listen and didn't even know it was Mariah who wrote it.

James Cordon interview (99,114)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I actually liked the interview. This maybe seem strange, I found it relateble that Mariah seemed very fragile, but not in a bad way. It looks like this pandemic has taken a toll on Mariah, she has become a bit down to earth again, and that is a good thing.
Yes, she behaved like the diva she is presumed to be, but she loves to do that, and she has sticked to that routine for over two decades in spite of constant criticism from the public. I love people who just do what they want to do even though everybody has an opinion of it, and many people thinks it's a ridiculous act.
But she seemed extremely self-conscious, couldn't focus in the beginning, and it took a long time before she put her gard down. It wasn't until she threw the shoe, that she felt a little relaxed, it seemed. She felt human.
About the weight, I'm bipolar myself, and have been that since 2008. Mariah's meltdown on TRL in 2001 is exactly how my behaviour became the first time I got sick, completely in a manic state. Mariah had a worse time than me, obviously, since her life was written about in every newspaper around the world. I live in Norway where Mariah's success has been limited, but that breakdown and the fact she got sacked by Virgin, was a huge story in the biggest newspapers in this country. I had the luxury that my first episode of a manic episode only was seen by family and friends.
Ok, I loved the interview, Mariah was insecure, but seemed happy, like many of us, and it was a delight to see her out and about again and actually likeable.

Re: Mariah 2022 (99,109) (99,113)

Wow, 2022 is just around the corner? I recall 2002 like yesterday and how "Through the rain" dropped mid October and the "Charmbracelet" 2nd or 3rd of December if I'm not mistaken. Time does fly doesn't it? . This would be the first time she would be releasing a full on studio album in the year of "2" and not just at the end of the year, if you get my drift. However, I am not stoked for the album unless it is some kind of compilation of powerful songs (ballads I hope, with not one single rap collaboration in sight, I'm sick of those) and undeniable bops from when her voice was pristine because right now, something just doesn't add up Mariah, your instrument is "compromised" to put it nicely. I was so shocked by that BPCH clip and I didn't even watch the full performance. Smh. I want this woman to win so bad, but it seems she does not want that for herself, she is long overdue for another tangible era like we know very well she's capable of and to connect to the younger generation (who if I may add already adore her) and reconnect back to disillusioned lambs like say Randy. Lol. Sorry Randy no shade here. And welcome back by the way.
