Re: I just want (97,850) (97,853) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
Totally agree. I want Mariah to give us powerful vocals again like Mine Again, Circles, Emotions, belt belt and belt. Enough with the whispering. It's time for a change. I could care less if she can sing the song live or not because she can always resort to lipsync and prerecorded track, as she has always done since 1998.

Re: I just want (97,850) (97,852) by T from USA
I'm the opposite. I love Mariah's powerful soulful voice but if it's not there anymore I don't want to hear a Frankenstein album. MIAMTEC came close to that being recorded over four long years. Caution was refreshing because I could get into the song without judging the voice. Unless all this rest has helped, or she went through the throat surgery I don't think she should patch together songs. Or else a new album might be ten years away.

Re: En Vogue / Don't let go (97,849) (97,851) by Mirage_Nunez from America
En Vogue and Mariah were the highlight of 1990 for me. They've always put me in the mind of each other with their little black dresses, classy yet cutting edge auras and of course outstanding vocals: my favorite singer and female group of all time. I've always dreamed of them doing something together during their hay day. It;s never too late (Mariah if you're reading this). *cross fingers*

I just want (97,850) by Edward from USA
On her next album I just want Mariah to sing again. I'm kind of tired of the whispering. I know she might not be able to replicate some of the songs live, but who gives a. She is known for her powerful voice. As much as like Caution, there wasn't a moment in which Mariah raised her voice to resemble a belt. We all know she's a studio artist, she's said it. I guess we've all complained about overproduction before, but I don't care as long as she gives us at least some powerful songs. I have made my peace with the way her voice is now, so I don't cringe or expect anything expectacular when she's going to perform, but I know she can do magic in the studio, even if she has to patch each song together word by word.

I am feeling the same way right now. I would love for MC to put out an song for next album sampling SWV, Jade, or Jon B.

90ies music [is] like "therapy" for me at the moment. I mean just great memories. I love this song since it came out. I miss this type of music. Can anyone imagine Mariah singing a song in the style of "Don"t let Go"? I would love that.

MC30 (97,846) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So what happened to MC30. It's weird it abruptly stopped before Memoirs and then we hear nothing. I figured she stopped to stretch it until her anniversary. But that has since passed and still no news.

What is MC saying the last minute of Miss You? It is so difficult to understand her at the end of the song.

Re: Breakdown ad libs (97,835) (97,841) by Terna from Nigeria
You just might be right on this one. I went and played it back and I hear it now, and yes its a little bit "noisy" so to speak at that section and may even have a bad edit of her vocals, almost muffled. But I hear it now, and I've played breakdown for years. Lol. Gee thanks. This is one of the cool things with her recordings, you keep hearing it and then one day you listen and then get it, and then your perception changes.

Pretty confident on this one.

"Oh I'm crying. I am tragically dying inside and my heart cries. How do I feel? I'm losing my mind. Oh I, I break down and cry. I, I, I, but in reality I'm, I'm slowly losing my mind, how do I feel? What do you think? You gotta know I'm suffering. So I, I, turn out the lights and break down and cry. I... I... I..."

Re: Breakdown ad libs (97,832) (97,835) by Anonymous from UK
She says "Why d'you think it gotta be (blank) suffering?"

It's not her enunciation that's a problem there - the track is actually distorted, with the backing/layered vocals overwhelming the word she uses.

I personally presume she says "me" for the following reasons: 1. It follows the ad libbed question "how do I feel?" 2. It aligns with, and is dominated by, the layered repeated vocals at the point of "I'm suffering". 3. It's the only word that fits the sentence properly. She could have answered "How do you think it feels suffering?", it would've made more sense, and fitted the same melody, but she clearly says "why". Maybe the stems will give us an answer, if anyone has heard them. Or maybe she'll give us a stripped version with clearer vocals.

Alternately, she could be using a word like "fun", to ask a rhetorical question, as in: "Why? Do you think its gonna be fun suffering?"

I woke up in the middle of the night, and this line flowed through my mind: "Soft, heavenly eyes gazed into me, transcending space and time." From an oft forgotten song with outstanding vocals.

She says "What I say at the beginning of Honey is honey you can have me when you want me" but really quickly, Bone Thugs style.

Breakdown ad libs (97,832) by Terna from Nigeria
Since we're arguing about Mariah's enunciation, I always wondered what she was saying in "Breakdown" at the ad libs part - "But in reality I'm, I'm slowly losing my mind", "How do I feel", "What...". Most people always go what's she saying there. Mariah if you read this might as well answer it yourself. Hehe.

Re: Best opening line (97,829) (97,830) by Anonymous from UK
Bill, I wouldn't bother explaining something that's undeniably fact. Andrew is either having you on, and wasting your time, or he actually believes what he's saying, which, if the case, makes his arrogance all that more amusing. I suspect it's the former, but either way, fact is fact and Mariah said what she said.

Re: Best opening line (97,827) (97,829) by Bill from the UK
Yeh, thing is she doesn't though. You are actually wrong on this (I know you never can hold the mirror up, so I can understand the denial), but I await the day when you hear it like everybody else here and it clicks for you as it did me and the others.

I suppose you have to ask yourself these questions:

1. Mariah is a known perfectionist, especially in the studio. A large selection of producers have stated this over the last 30 years. Is it feasible that she would mess up her own opening line on what was going to be the launch pad single for a new phase of her career on the permanent, forevermore album version, yet sing it correctly every other time?

2. Mariah is a songwriter and likes to constantly remind everyone of this fact. How likely is it that she would deviate from her own lyrics that she wrote, again for the permanent forevermore album version of the song, yet clearly open with "Honey you can" on every other rendition of the song she has ever done.

3. According to Puff Daddy, Mariah recorded over 50 takes of Honey so he could choose the best parts for the song. In all 50 takes, is it likely that Mariah would sing a different lyric for one time, and that ends up being the one that Puff selected, that went through production by both him and Mariah and mastering all the way through to release with nobody realising.

4. "Now you can have me when you want me" is not a line ever uttered in any remix, either as the opening, or as a refrain. The So So Def Remix in fact repeats the "honey you can have me when you want me" line from the four minute mark to the outro of the song. Indeed, it opens with "Oh honey (so so def), you can have me...", as does the Morales remix.

5. The first pressing of the Daydream album had incorrect lyrics for One Sweet Day printed. The second pressing quickly corrected this soon after the release. No second pressing or re-issue of Butterfly has ever changed the opening line to "Now you can have me". The promo CDs issued at the time also included the lyrics which also stated "Honey you can have me". All official lyric sources do not concur with you I'm afraid.

To help you out, the easiest way to hear it is to focus on the beat after the "oh oh oh" part before the opening verse. It goes "oh oh oh (beat) 'ney you can have me...". The (beat) is when she utters the "ho" part, albeit at the back of her throat somewhat, and it sounds raspy. So it's like "h'neeh you can have me when you want me".

I do admit it isn't clear. At all. I can understand how you can mishear it, as I was in the group of people who once scratched their heads over that line as well, but mishear it you have I'm afraid.
