I agree. I swear Oprah thinks she's Jesus, and when gets a papercut, she goes like: "Stigmata." I don't trust her, she's very skinny now and very hungry. Mariah needs a different platform, Oprah might be plotting to get her on Ozempic.

BFF, until we can get what Summer Walker says in her songs to hook men, the single life will stick around for us. Seriously, I have given up on finding love. I have come to the conclusion that having a someone in my life is not going to happen at this point in my life. Sad, but true for me.

Breakdown (108,288)
by BFF from United States

So I've gone from singing "Lead the Way" to pumping "Breakdown" in the span of three weeks. Mariah really knows how to sing/write a song about emotionally unavailable men. I was getting all of these signals from him for weeks and this week all of a sudden it's like I've been iced out. I'm all up in my feelings.

I can't believe we've reached the day when we're ok if Mariah lip syncs as long as long she looks happy to be there. I personally don't mind even if she sits on a chaise lounge with a 90s boom box and just presses play and sips tea as long as she releases MC 16 this year.

MC should come clean during an interview with Oprah. Oprah could help MC focus on her being a real person and whatever she has been dealing with concerning her voice. I just wonder if any medication she takes for bipolar affects her voice and her ability to sing like she use to. One would think after proper rest and an extended break, her voice would bounce back easily. However, we know after seven years of bad performances that is not the case.

You know MC wouldn't be in this situation if we still had "the CD". I hate to sound old like a Generation X-er but there was a magic to going to the store, tearing the cellophane off, ripping that annoying plastic tape off the top and opening a disc. Reading the producers, songwriters and thank you's. Mariah could be making music and making money from that. But now that everything is free once it hits the internet she has to tour. In a way, I was glad because the record companies were greedy. Refusing to issue singles in the late 90s to force you to buy a whole album that may suck. Natalie Imbruglia anyone? But ultimately digital music failed the artists most. There's a coupe of great documentaries on it too. Oh well. I like retelling the experience to my nieces and nephews about how I was in Sam Goody buying Glitter when the towers fell. They look up and ask Uncle Randy, why were you buying supplies to make arts and crafts?

Guys, I havent seen any messages regarding this very [exciting] moment for Mariah. Brazil always delivers the best for MC so on September 17th there are going to have this concert live from a river, yes on a river, to raise [awareness] around the environment preservation and those things. Mariah will perform on a stage that is build like a [Brazilian] flower called "Vitória Régia" that is very pretty. It will be globally televised so I hope you guys check it.

Randy, your post reminds me of how many artists missed out on #1 records because their labels wouldn't issue CD Singles. "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia, "Don't Speak" by No Doubt, "I'll Be There for You" by the Rembrandts, "Killing Me Softly" by The Fugees, "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls, and the goes on.
Here's a full list of Airplay Only hits if you need it.

I wouldn't mind MC miming as much if she put on a big budget show with a huge production (pyro, a lot of dancers, laser lights, etc), did some light choreography, had weeks of intense rehearsals and was an actual believable lipsyncer. Bey, Celine and Toni have mastered lip syncing but MC has never been good at it.
Sorry guys it just frustrates me that at this point in her career, she is performing at such a low level. I just don't understand. Toni Braxton has lupus and almost had a heart attack recently but is still giving high energy performances in her Vegas show dancing and singing. Anyone performing 35 years should be a master at performing and commanding the stage.
Sigh, I can't wait until this era is over. It feels worse than those lazy Vegas performances of 2017.

I can't be mad at Mariah for giving bad performances on miming. It's something everyone should expect. She's been doing it consistently since Charmbracelet when I saw her. If you go to a Mariah Carey or Anita Baker concert, you'll know they don't want to be there. Lauryn Hill and Madonna are always going to be late. Chaka Khan is gonna be high or drunk. None of this is news and yet people still shell out hundreds of dollars to see them? And then complain. These are karaoke artists. You go to sing and bask in their presence. Not to be entertained.

Branding/brand deals (108,273)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
I would have loved to have seen MC develop her acting career during this break from releasing new music. She was amazing in Precious and Wise Girls and won an award for her performance. I would love to see her in a weekly series drama ala Law and Order SVU where she could flex her acting skills. She's also super close to Lee Daniels and I'm sure he could have put her in more movies. There's no reason why she shouldn't have several more movies under her belt. I love how Lady Gaga has developed herself into a credible actress and would love the same for MC.
To me, MC is very unfocused right now and this is yet another missed opportunity.

Branding/brand deals (108,267)
by Nikki from usa

I think she should release her own variety of bath supplies. Bath salts, oils, bombs, and bubble baths. Also for dogs and puppies. She's a bath queen and could easily corner that market. Different scents, some for luxury, some for moisture, relaxation, or just that clean feeling.
I don't know that Mariah would ever want a full time brand like Rhianna. She's married to music and creative projects are her mistress. She likes to try new creative things which is why she doesn't stick with anything. Mariah always want to try something new.
However, I do think if she just had a licensing deal only with a group to release bath supplies and only do the creative aspect from time to time, then that would work out for her.

I gotta break it to you delicately, [beep]. Live Nation can't book anything without Mariah's approval. The idea that they locked in shows seven years in advance for her? Completely ridiculous. If she wanted time off, she could absolutely turn down any offers, no one's forcing her on stage. After her breakdown, she made it crystal clear that taking time off when needed was nonnegotiable, no questions asked. For whatever reason, she's choosing to keep milking the cow while the milk keeps flowing, and that's totally fine, just sing, put on a great show, and at least act like you wanna be there.

Andrew (108,266)
by Nikki from usa

When you talk, does it make sense to you? "Mariah has more control over her career now than ever before, so no, she's not forced to be there, she chooses to be there. Once she agrees and signs the contract, she is contractually obligated to fulfill the terms, including any concerts or tours outlined in the agreement."
Yes, that means she has to be there and she signed in 2017. At no point did I say she was a slave. I stated she had her old residency scheduled already under Stella and Jay Z took over. He was her management and scheduled her around the clock. She had to be there, because J signed her up as her manager. Which explains why she fired him in 2019.
It's why she hired a smaller manager. None of this changes the fact Live Nation didn't get another tour from her until Christmas of 2022. It's 2025. That's 3 years, Andrew. I'd be wary of calling someone a liar when you can't even retain basic information. She is under contract to do tours and she's done 1 in 5 years. Best believe they are blowing up her phone. She's also still under contract with her 3 album deal from Sony. Caution was the first and she still owes them 2 more albums. Do you ever check the news section on this site at all?

The Rainbow Mariah was fun. The Hearbreaker video was on heavy rotation every day. There were really so many things which a fan could enjoy. The Glitter album was released before 9/11/01 in Germany. I can't remember why. But I remember buying the single Loverboy too. It was always a highlight to buy a Mariah CD on its release day. The youngsters of today have no clue how exciting it was. To wait until a release date, drive to the city at a media market and buy the "new" CD.

This concert in its entirety is vocally one of her best ever. She was on top form. I remember she used some kind of spray in the mouth a couple of times during the concert, and people named it the "magical spray" or something of the kind. Lol.
