Me. I Am Mariah (106,530) by Billy from Greece
Happy tenth anniversary? Say what? Ten years? I can't handle time. Wow. Yeah, so happy anniversary. I adored the album when it came out. I used to listen to it every single day for a long time. I stood still when I heard Cry, Faded, Dedicated for the first time. I found her creatively flourishing on this album, so many ideas, such a variety of styles, very mature-proficient offering. At the same, that was such a sad era. The divorce overshadowed the album, her pain was palpable, especially during the tour. Also, the last part of the album (following Camouflage) shows it was recorded at a different time, so it loses some cohesion there (I could without Money). I wonder what the original concept (The Art of Letting Go) would turn out like. Clearly wrong first single choice (though I do like You're Mine, and I think it has aged well). Let's also remember that she was totally on her own supporting the album. Island Def Jam had dropped the ball here. All these years later, I still find it a great body of work, although now I see the overthinking behind it, which maybe robs it a bit of its immediacy. But really, it contains some of her best songs in my opinion. It's just that it was a convoluted time for her because, apparently, life happens.

Portrait late at night (106,529) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Forgive me, fellow Lambs, I got myself drunk tonight, and my whole neighborhood is listening to all the Portrait remixes. I have no remorse, this is the best release from Mariah since #Beautiful, it's been eleven years, I can't help myself.

MFM is still #1 on iTunes. Where will you be when it debuts in the Hot 100 top 10 in a few weeks?

Anybody else notice between 11:20-12:20, MC gave us a new song, a variation of Looking In, and Butterfly (Flyway) all wrap up in that part of the remix. I hear a lot of C&C Music Factory in the Portrait remix. I am just wondering if MC studied Cole and Civilles before she worked with them in 1991.

Audible Portrait of a Portrait (106,526) by Billy from Greece
Is there any other way to listen to this, besides Audible?

I so love the "Made for me" remix. Super addictive, I keep playing it over and over. I also looove the "Portrait" remixes. As others mentioned, you get a lot of different vocal textures, some throwback vibes, some freestyle. Mesmerizing, and it does bring to mind "Meteorite" in the refrain.

Muni Long (106,524) by BFF from United States
The "Made for Me" collaboration is actually growing on me a little bit. Not sure if anyone caught this, but Mariah previously worked with Muni Long on "A No No" for the "Caution" album and "Infinity" from "#1 to Infinity". Muni Long is credited as a writer on both under her real name Priscilla Hamilton.

Love it (106,523) by Zachariah from Croatia
The Portrait remix is absolutely epic and amazing. I love it to death. I forgot all about Made For Me flop in a second. Vocals are so very good. I actually love how her voice changed - it gives me chameleon vibes, adaptable to all styles and different eras. She was always a master of remixes. Thank you for this girl.

Portrait remixes (106,522) by Brandon from USA
I like it. A lot actually. I will admit there were times I wanted her to just go for it and give me some strong high belts like she did in the Honey Morales remix where she goes off vocally. It's apparent that she can't do that anymore but I still really like the remix. I think it can stand beside her 90's house mixes.

I also think they her vocal condition is the reason why she has not moved forward with completing her album. She criticized Caution because she wasn't happy with it vocally and maybe she is hoping that her voice will get back to where she feels comfortable recording an album. She knows we are nitpicky about her vocals and doesn't want to be criticized for her vocals not being there. I hope she's working with a vocal coach to get better and not simply relying on vocal rest to repair her voice.

Anyways, I love the remix and am happy with it for the most part. I'll be jamming to it for a while. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though.

Changed voice (106,520) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Mariah's voice has always been heavenly to listen to, it's smooth, it's like butter, velvet even, listening to her sing gives the same sensation as tasting honey. But what has happened the last couple of years, is that her upper-mid to upper register has lost that velvety texture, it has become more metallic. Celine is the one I like the least of the Vocal Trinity, even though I love her too, but her voice has always been so metallic and a bit painful to listen to sometimes.

I'm not saying Mariah's voice has become as metallic as Celine's, but she has lost a lot of that "Mariah" texture, it's just sound now really, and that is a bit sad. Her middle to lower register and her breathy vocals are as smooth as ever, so I guess we just have to enjoy that part of her voice from now on.

After listening to Portrait through my car speakers this morning, I feel differently about her vocal delivery. Painful was a wrong word choice to describe to her vocal quality now. I love it. MC really gave us a lot of different eras in sixteen minutes. She is still a musical genius.

Those "Portrait" remixes. I doubt this will happen but I would love for them to send this to radio. This is exactly what I want to hear from her and it sounds current.

Just to clarify. I mean the Portrait remix is better than any newly recorded material she has released since 2018. Just in case someone accuses me of throwing shade at "The Rarities" and the 30th anniversary edition of "Music Box".

I don't think they were painful at all. Pleasant but not amazing like the 90s house remixes of course. I don't think it's because of her voice, more to do with the song. Thankfully I don't hear the screeching and scratching that other people seem to. A nice addition to her remixes era. When did she release her last original song? Was it "Save the day"?

Portrait remixes (106,515) by BFF from United States
I really like the Portrait remix. It's definitely better than anything else she has put out since 2018.

Hearing the news about the Rainbow remix makes me wonder if she's planning a "deluxe release" of the album for the 25th anniversary. She could presumably include "There for Me" on that release and maybe some Rainbow tour goodies? I know she rushed to complete that album, so I don't know if there would be much unreleased material. I wouldn't mind having a finished ballad version of the "Rainbow" interlude - the song isn't too vocally challenging so she could probably do it with her current voice.

Portrait Hopeless Child remixes (106,514) by 123 from USA
While some of you waste time being negative about remixes projects Mariah has no control over, Ms. Carey has quietly dropped three Portrait remixes. So good. She turned a melancholy ballad into a reflective, optimistic up tempo. Mostly sung in full voice, her buttery mid range cannot be duplicated. She sounds so good. You get new vocals, new lyrics, new backgrounds, different vocal textures minus high belts which aren't missed or needed. She flips the beat a lot at the end of the 16 minute version. I'm super excited to get the official Rainbow Interlude remix in June. So glad Caution finally got a dance remix and she really stuck her foot into these. No cut and paste. So brilliant. "So you can just be free." Just what I needed MC.

I agree, unfortunately when Mariah belts I feel a "childlike tone" that I don't know how to explain. Like she is trying to make her voice "sound young" but it comes out strained and screechy.

Yes a great summer vibe. I'm loving these remixes. I'm listening on headphones and her voice sounds great even the belts I'm not disappointed with, yeah it's not early Mariah belts but it's great to hear her having fun with remixes again and they have definitely got an old Mariah vibe.

Portrait remixes (106,511) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I actually like the remixes, it's some old school Mariah remixes for you, gave me nostalgic feelings, but yes, her voice is very strained. Her breathy vocals are as pleasant to listen to as always, but her full voice and whenever se wants to jump up an octave, you can hear she is struggling, it takes her much effort to just sing one or two words in the upper register and it sounds more like shouting than singing.

Yes, maybe she should do an album with all the studio magic you can think of, and she can lip synch her way through her performances. We are very harsh against Mariah for her use of prerecorded tracks which seems to be 90% of her live shows these days, but the general public really don't seem to care, it's been a long time since I've seen YouTube videos bashing her lip synching. It seems like the people attending her concerts don't care and is just in for the experience.

Anyways, the Portrait remixes is new music from Mariah I'm actually going to play this summer, such a nice summerly vibe to those remixes.

Her vocal state has been confirmed that it is irreversible and probably won't improve anymore. MC seems to be okay with it. I am okay with it too, but it is very painful to listen to the Portrait remixes. Where does she go from here? I say just finish recording MC16 with some technology magic and release it to the world to enjoy one more Mariah Carey album.

New house mix? (106,507) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I'm not gonna pay for another subscription (audible), even thought I'd love to hear the new connect. I like to read a physical book. And I like podcasts when I am driving. I'll read a book, then jump in my car and listen to a podcast, I don't want to listen to a book-on-tape (which is what it was called before it was a corporate money maker)

My questions is, when can I hear the new Portrait House remix? I expected it on iTunes today with the release of the audible stuff. Why not?

Trilogy - Celine ... (106,506) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
How is Celine Dion's coverage being covered in the rest of the world? (That's an honest question as a Canadian.)

Celine has been so expressive in Canada about her condition. But this wasn't what she wanted or what she expected for her career.
The vocal trinity was Mariah, Whitney and Celine. Whitney I won't speak on. Celine has been struggling for years, meanwhile Lambs are demanding something from Mariah. Who else with this vocal prowess was in general pop music other than Mariah, Whitney, Celine? Barbra wasn't "pop" and wasn't put under the same expectation to be M.W.C. Diana Ross and queen Donna Summer weren't expected to perform the way M.W.C.

Are we underplaying the pressure these three women experienced with their vocal Olympics? Some may be disappointed by Mariah's voice in 2024, however, given Whitney's ending and Celine's physical issues, Mariah is still duetting with top 10 artists.

If you have access, Canadian TV has many great documentaries about Celine's conditions and she's extremely venerable.
