I know a lot of people love this song but I just can't with all of the adlibs at the end. It sounds like each syllable was recorded separately. Sadly, the last chorus on the non-extended late night version of WBT reminded me of that song I so like the arrangement though and some of the extended parts. (Saturday 20 February 2021; 03:18)

Signs of the end (97,417) by Mirage_Nunez from America At this point, I believe every lamb (new or vintage) has already come to terms with MC's vocal situation. Whether it's flawed, prerecorded, half sung in great voice/half lipped upper register etc. We all know what's going on and have a right to feel how we chose to feel about it. There's no right or wrong way to feel about it going forward as far as I'm concerned. Having said that, I'm personally not mad or bothered by Mariah doing a studio album/or songs with pieced together great vocals, because I just love her as an artist, the sound of her voice, and her contribution to music. I understand the argument "if you can't duplicate it live (anymore) then why even bother" and I actually agree with that for the most part, but at the end of the day it's still show business and when there's a market or demand for you the show must go on whether it's all your raw unfiltered talent being displayed or a complete smoke and mirror magic show. You have to do your best with what you got (left). For the most part the people just want to be entertained, and see you do what you do/what expected of your brand whether you're a Whitney, a Britney, or somewhere in the middle. I want Mariah to continue to make great music as long as it's in her to do it and if she wants to piece together a nice live home session every now and again, then have at it. If production requires many attempts in a studio with the best phrases cut and paste, I couldn't care less anymore. However, when she does do these high pitched WBT climaxes, and long sustained notes and so on, why is it that the camera is never in the studio filming these come out of her mouth? I get what you're saying, actually, and I hadn't considered it that way before. It does feel like a nice, round ending. The career came full circle, almost. And if the voice is gone, why bother carrying on? It's a perfectly valid viewpoint. I believe if Mariah doesn't do something very drastic with a new release it will be the end of her recording career anyway. I'm envisioning a Cher "Believe" album type shift. How funny, I actually wrote a poem a few days ago for my friend who is going through some addiction and depressions issues (yes, okay, I write poetry and normally only when someone asks me to these days) and it was - genuinely - about making the best of bursts of brilliance: All The Available Light I remember when strikes the thunderbolt that it's stormier still in the night and, though flashes of brilliance are fleeting, to paint all the available light. It is not how dim-lit the universe nor how woeful the world in your sight, if the canvass requires your bravery then your conscience requires the fight. AG. 14/02/21 So I agree with you. She hasn't had the stamina and consistency to pull off an entire setlist live probably since the first 5 years of her career. After that, everything has been either assisted or straight up cheated. If she was still actually selling much and charting high in the 2010s, I highly doubt she would have done a residency and toured around the world. Notice how more frequent she did concerts and tours as her voice deteriorated? It's because she has found a way to get away with miming through more and more of her material and still get paid top dollar. Quite the contrast from younger Mariah who pretty much avoided long live sets when she was in her vocal prime. To answer your question, Mariah can still reach the high notes in the studio. Her brilliance comes in short bursts, great moments that are stitched together to create a patchy whole. She always works best in a controlled environment. That's whay it's just her and her sound engineer when she lays down vocals, because she wouldn't mine doing countless takes on just one specific part until she likes it, even if that means she's never gonna be able to replicate even half of them live, especially today. Perhaps that's why many gravitate towards Caution, because it's the first album where she didn't push herself too much to create moments that attempt to approximate her past vocal glories (looking at you, MIAM). People associate Mariah with high notes and unbelievable vocal acrobatics, and she's pressured to aspire towards meeting those expectations because that's her brand. To be fair, these songs aren't just difficult for Mariah - they are very challenging to even the best of singers. People are more likely to mess up (and hence avoid) singing My All than Saving All My Love For You or Because You Loved Me because of Mariah's approach to songwriting. In the studio she can record a short sequence where she is belting without issues. This is then stitched together with another recorded belting from another session. I'd say she never sings a single verse or chorus in one breath in the studio anymore. Not speaking about that it's almost impossible for her to do it live (all these Corona Home Studio Sessions sounded really painful). A very good (or bad) example is One More Try. The whole song sounds horrible to me because it's one short recorded snippet after another. This makes it sound very incoherent. An early example is Through The Rain where you can clearly hear the pieces that were glued together (a very unclean processing, many glitches where words start very rough). I don't want to ruin the party, just want to let you know how it has been since at least Charmbracelet. It sometimes comes across as the emperor's (empress') new clothes how people praise her voice and performances in the last 10 years, like her recent WBT performance or release. It's again just another pre-recorded, auto-tuned car crash. I feel like Caution and especially Rarities have been very good closing chapters of my life long fandom starting in 1994. I will always enjoy her recordings, please don't get me wrong, I love most of her catalogue, Daydream will always have a special place in my heart, but I was not able to enjoy any pseudo-live performance since E=MC2 and grew tired of her overly-processed vocals. I actually thought the pandemic had restored her voice to some above decent state, but it's evident the damage is beyond vocal coaches and humidifiers. At this point, it is what it is. Re: WBT Valentine's mix (97,399) (97,403) by Shezz from Pk To be honest I still want to believe the following: she feels more comfortable and is under no stress or pressure in the studio of being watched and heard by everybody and can loosen up a bit and go for it. And, if she fails, she can try again and again until she gets it right. In a live performance, she is too damn scared to not nail it on the one shot she has to go for it, so instead of being ballsy and going for it and risking utter humiliation of sounding like a screeching cat, she plays safe and goes for the backing track. Try as she may, she is not confident about what's going to come out of her throat. Yes she can't do the vocal acrobatics anymore in the studio and her voice is no longer the same but she can still sing a bit. Just my theory - I could be wrong and she could totally be using a Stephen Hawking like voice device but I think that's less likely. (Thursday 18 February 2021; 16:20)

But give me this, Andrew, she rearly lips Hero. The parts that are lipped in that clip I belieive she has lowered in later renditions. But what about when Mariah joins other superstars on Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Cealed, Delivered" the same night, Andrew, when she hits that high note that leaves Beyoncé baffled, is that also lipped? This is a good example - watch the "Lord knows... hold on... the way..." parts. It uses backing track that can be heard identically on other renditions. Songs Mariah never lip synchs (97,400) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway There are two songs Mariah never lip synchs, Vision of Love and Hero. She can sing those songs without lip synching and they still sound nice, and the performances are usually pretty emotional and the audience usually respond very positivley. Why can't Mariah arrange her other songs in that way that she can actually sing them live? It's much more satisfactory to hear Mariah sing a song completly live. But it's not just the case with WBT, she hasn't belted the high notes live since 1998. Has anybody here heard Heartbreaker hight notes live ever? What about TTR? All the high notes of the Charmbracelet songs where lipped during the Charmbracelet World Tour. I actually can't remember a live performance after 1999 where the hight notes aren't lip synched. Strangley, during the E=MC era, she actually sang the high notes on TMB and IBLYLT live on several occasions, and that was during a time her voice almost sounded damaged. How come Mariah is capable of reaching the high notes in the studio? Can somebody please explain this to me? (Thursday 18 February 2021; 14:31)

She is more often than not out of tune, has breathing difficulty, has extremely restricted range, cannot transition well, requires lip sync for anything not of ease to the average singer and sounds bad sometimes. If everyone just accepts this as axiomatic then I won't have to rage against stupidity/lies, we get to defcon 2 and my doctor is in Aruba sipping sangria. I agree, and have always argued, that she should record songs she can actually reproduce live lest anybody be cheated. The reworking of WBT could have avoided the high screech octave jump in favour of a normal singing pattern with resonance and depth. But nope. WBT has never ever been reproduced live in its entirety. Even to this day. Yet I still liked it because she looked amazing. I'm so shallow. Like there could be 100 people in a room and 99 of them don't believe in you and, oh you know how it ends. WBT Mimi's Late Night Valentine's Mix extended (97,395) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa Wow. To take a masterpiece and expand on it is bold. But to do it and have it sound like it should actually be the original is almost unheard of (from my listening experiences at least). It's as if the song has a new meaning to her now and she translated it into a brand new piece. I love it so so much. The last 2.5 minutes are absolutely incredible and it tells a whole story with just sounds and adlibs. The piano is so powerful. The final minute in is just stunningly mesmerizing. I felt like I was listening to her in a jazz bar. I am so here for an album of her favorite MC tracks reimagined. (Thursday 18 February 2021; 00:57)
