Mariah in Brazil (111,185)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|
|
I'm not surprised. This has been the same running theme with the concerts in China as well. I hope a physical therapist help her gain the will to move and be lively again. Lambs are somewhat accepting at this point but the general public will continue to shred her to pieces if she keeps being a living corpse. I know it's all festive and Mariah is winning awards, yay. But it's truly sad where she's at, performing wise. She's moved more when she was pregnant. The injury from 2013 is fully catching up to her, it seems.

Yes, the look was great, but the concert was terrible. Nobody enjoyed it, and people thought it was awful how she didn't interact with the audience, kept staring at the monitors, and left the stage multiple times for long outfit changes. She barely sang, didn't even try to move around the stage, and now she's been getting a lot of backlash from both the media and fans, many of whom left halfway through the show. I just can't understand this lack of energy in her concerts lately. It feels like she doesn't even want to be there. I don't remember any Mariah concert ever being this bad before. Everyone in Brazil was disappointed.

She looked amazing last night in Brazil. That should have been the look for the VMAS, not that horrible golden bodysuit she wore. I love her wavy hair and the sparkly short dress was beautiful. I'm here for it, slay Mimi.

I think there were some label issues with Def Jam after L.A. Reid left. Recording sessions extended, lack of label support and promotion, Walmart leak, and the #Beautiful video came out too late were all of things MIAM faced before it was finally released. MC was just ready to be done with Def Jam.

I swear there is a great album buried within the clutter of the "Me I Am Mariah" album. I bet "The Art of Letting Go" would have done well if everything with that album launch had gone according to plan and Mariah hadn't hurt herself filming the "#Beautiful" remix video. I definitely would have tossed the "One More Try" cover, "Heavenly/No Ways Tired", and those unnecessary "remixes" of "It's A Wrap" and "Betcha Gon' Know". What a missed opportunity that album was.

HFIA album versions (111,182)

I just listened to the clip of the title track. It sounds fantastic and has me super excited and pumped for the album. I ordered my copy on Amazon this morning and opted for the original album cover where she's smiling with her eyes closed. It still very much reminds me of the "Glitter" album cover. Yay for new Mariah on 9/26 on the 30th anniversary of "Daydream".

I think the next single might be "MI". Also the song playing in the video of Mariah signing autographs is "I don't wanna lose your love" by The Emotions. Mariah has great taste.

Definitely a missed opportunity. In my humble opinion, "Triumphant" was stronger than a lot of tracks on MIAM and deserved a spot on the album, yet it wasn't even included as a bonus track. When it first dropped, people complained that Mariah sounded like a guest on her own song, but then she came back with those incredible remixes that proved her voice was still very much there. I still jam to them today. I'm sure there are more gems from that era sitting in the vault, and when they finally see the light of day, we'll all be in for a surprise.

That's how it's been for me ever since Mariah's horrendous "One More Try" cover on MIAM. Before that, we could always count on her to deliver in the studio, but things have changed. I'm still super excited for the new album dropping so, but I'm also cautious with my expectations. At the end of the day, I like what I like. And honestly, checking out fan reviews beforehand feels just as valid as people reading reviews before buying something or going to a show.

I'm very confused by the fact that Amazon is selling two versions of the album with one being slightly more expensive than the other. Is there any difference amongst the three versions of the album than the cover image?
Also, I just saw that Amazon is advertising the album as having a Mariah-only version of "Sugar Sweet". Does that mean that Mariah is going to try promoting a solo version of it as a single? I honestly didn't think that Kehlani and Shenseea added much to the song but understand their inclusion as an attempt to appeal to a younger audience.
Any word on a third single? I also wondered what song was playing in the background of the video with her signing the CDs and if it was a song from the album.

Day 3 - Music Box 30th Anniversary + Dreamlover EP + Anytime You Need a Friend EP + Never Forget You EP Anyway....for those of us who are actually interested in the topic at hand: listening along to Mariah's discography on the lead up to HFIA, today we move on to Music Box - the album that quietly took over the world in '93 and made MC a household name.
Shout out to all the lambs who were introduced to Mariah during this era. We don't acknowledge time but you have been a loyal fan for 32 minutes and counting.
Some fans call Music Box her "AC ballad era", but the real ones know there's way more happening: the layering on Never Forget You, the gospel storm that is Anytime You Need a Friend, the dancefloor readiness of Now That I Know, the haunting otherworldliness of Everything Fades Away.
Trivia time: Music Box sold over 28 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling albums of the '90s. It gave us three US top 5 singles - "Dreamlover" and "Hero" both hit #1, while "Anytime..." peaked at #12 but became a huge fan fave (and that gospel outro still slaps 30 years later).
The 30th anniversary edition includes Mariah's full live set from her 1993 Proctor's Theater show in New York - the show that a lot of fans only knew via bootlegs or partial tapes. Now we get almost the entire concert in high quality. Two songs ("Hero" and "Dreamlover") were the only ones previously released from this concert, the rest is new-to-official release. It's like stepping back to 1993 and seeing her voice still finding even more power and nuance in a live space.
And I know some of you are young enough to remember the remix culture this era birthed. The Dreamlover EP had David Morales' Def Club Mix, a moment that cemented Mariah as a legit dance floor girlie. The Anytime You Need a Friend EP turned a gospel anthem into a house stomper, and Never Forget You showed off her R&B instincts long before that was cool for pop stars, so remember to revisit the EPs as well. LYM.

I love your profile pic, I love the Butterfly album and era. Mariah looked her best during that era. I would say she sounded her best but some will disagree and that's okay. I miss her Butterfly voice so much I wish she had recorded another album that year haha. Something about her tone and the rasp in her voice especially in "Honey" was so sexy and angelic at the same time. I'm sure even Mariah wishes she could have her Butterfly voice back.

Mariah's statistics, success, and resume speak for themselves. JD said it himself in that interview on The Breakfast Club. Kudos to JD for sticking up for her when the interviewers tried to insinuate that Mariah would not have had the comeback in 2005 without him. I remember when people tried that mess with Mariah herself and tried to insinuate that she would not have been successful without Tommy. As Mariah said on "Caution": "That's a no-no. No-no."
Who cares about who got the most consecutive number ones or sent their first five or seven singles to number one? Mariah's the undisputed champ for solo artists in the United States and has the most cumulative weeks at number one for any act. And she wrote/produced on all of her number ones except for "I'll Be There".
And over the next few years, she will almost certainly snatch back the record for song with most weeks at number one from Lil' Nas X and Shaboozey . They can both send her some flowers.

Day 2 - Emotions (1991) + MTV Unplugged EP + Emotions EP + Make It Happen EP + Can You Hear Me (The Rarities)
Today we're streaming Emotions - aka Mariah's "I'm not a one-album wonder" moment. For those of you joining us we will delve deeper in to R&B and gospel territory with splashes of dance and even a jazzy moment (where are our "The Wind" fans at?). Some say "And You Don't Remember" is her best ballad, others "Can't Let Go". They are both included on this spectacular sophomore effort.
With the lead single "Emotions" ("You're So Cold" was initially considered) she became the first and only artist ever to send her first five singles to #1 on the Hot 100. Legend behavior and it was only album #2.
She proved the naysayers wrong with the MTV Unplugged EP - including the ultimate version of "Someday" and the Hot 100 #1 "I'll Be There" cover with Trey Lorenz. Also check out "Can You Hear Me" from The Rarities, which was written during this era. How was this not even a B-Side, at least?
Today's plan: blast the Emotions album with us, followed by the EPs and "Can You Hear Me", then go full living-room concert with MTV Unplugged. Let's show some love to this underrated era. I don't have any social media accounts so feel free to spread this far and wide.

The signed copies are already sold out. Bummer. It is the D2C exclusive CD. I am sure the Barnes and Nobles signing event in New York on 09.27 is sold out as well. Lambs, I give Gamma an A+ for overall rollout and promotion. They have really created a lot of hype the album and a great Lamb experience not normally done by independent label for any artist. Something just feels different about this album release day coming up 09.26 than anything we have experienced before for MC.

What song is playing while Mariah signs the CD's? Could this be a track from HFIA?

Mariah will snatch that record before year's end. She's only two weeks away from it. It's going to be epic.
