Sugar Sweet YouTube reviews (110,256) by TJ from Norway
Remember that the reviews on YouTube are made by crazy fans that love everything she does.

Sugar Sweet video clip (110,255) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
I think it's because of the heavy filters to make her look young and slim. Mariah obviously didn't look like that in the Jimmy Kimmel interview. Mariah is always looking like that interview. All her social media posts are heavily edited.

Do you think her expressionless blank stares in this video and many others are the result of too much botox and filler? [It's] happened so much that I think the weight of these enhancements are affecting her ability to emote. I guess for her she'd rather look 35 forever while unable to look enthused or expressive.

I kinda agree with your sentiments here. [It's] quite unusual to witness her descent into girlyhood here. [It's] a tired troupe but I'll insert it here, [it's] like she's had a brain transplant. She's like a different artist/person over the last decade or so. The lyrics are too simplified and her personality seems like a wild tangent from her most of her career. I get pivoting to the current times and adapting your voice to its current state but still, there's a big gap here that's unexplained. I thought she'd use her book to explain her vocal issues or personality change in adulthood but that deep introspective work that we all have questions about didn't happen. All I can do is hope for the best. I hate that every interview she does, the questions and answers are so stupid and tired [it's] like being on autopilot. Like she's in a zombie state. I feel like we won't get the truth until she's far gone and then people from her camp will start spilling the tea.

See Dave, based on your logic I do think she's inviting the criticism plus is also highly a competitive person still. She wants to be on top again. How else do you explain the Yes And remix plus Justin Beiber WYSM remix plus the Barbra Streisand songs? All these songs she sounds terrible but she's still in the game. She knows she can't chart by herself anymore and is willing to take the gamble. Her cognitive ability is questionable so she doesn't answer questions on the fly and speaks to the same tired script about the same used talking points. That's why she heavily does TicTock [sic] videos and a endless supply of images because she can control the narrative - beauty over substance. I wish her the best and truthfully I'm just hoping for another solid album (doesn't need to be a chart topper) I just miss digging into a piece of cohesive work from top to bottom from her. I'd rather have another Charmbracelet over E=MC2.

New music (110,251) by T from USA
When Mariah did the album reveal, with the first two covers, I really got a Celine Dion mature vibe. I thought this was the next phase in her career. And it made sense because her fans have grown and are all older (with her). She had the chance to do it when she was on American Idol and had her older (mom) fanbase watching weekly. But instead she did #Beautiful, with that video and went the young pop star route again. Missed opportunity to grow and reinvent. Imagine if her whole American Idol image was geared toward being a 43 y.o. mom who has a slew of fans that are also there in life? The video for #B, then the songs that followed could've really given her career a new life. But instead songs like Thirsty and YDKWTD were on her mind. Look, it's twelve years since then and I thought after seeing the album shots that now she's embracing where she is in life. And then Sugar Sweet was released. Admittedly, it is the catchiest song she's released since Touch My Body or Shake It Off. But it does not suit her anymore. And I guess that's the hardest thing about being popular your whole career, the ability to step back and say I'm not anymore. I actually think she'd be more popular and have more success if she went the Celine Dion route and sang songs that fit a 55 year old woman with such worldly experience.

Yes I totally get where you're coming from, her lyrics used to be deep and meaningful. Now it's like she tries to get the most silliest or current trend lyrics in. Or words that no one really knows the meaning.

What Virgin Records could have been for MC (110,249) by T from USA
Interesting thought. I think there was more to Virgin dropping her than just an underperforming soundtrack that actually didn't do that bad. She had a song hit #2, and a top 10 album on the Billboard 200. I think it was more the way she acted around that time. She was going through a mental health crisis and nobody understood. They just saw this diva who locked themself away and didn't answer calls, stopped working mid-promo. All of it frustrated the powers that be to no end and they concluded it wasn't worth it for them. They were shielded to the real Mariah. All they saw was the Sony artist, who was polite and professional. They didn't realize how heavily controlled she was to keep her in such a tight space. Virgin EMI isn't even a label anymore since 2012, so if she did stay with them she would've been looking for a new home by the time Triumphant was released. And of course, there wouldn't have been an Emancipation of Mimi.

I completely agree. That's why I hope on the new album are some lyrics with deeper meanings. I have nothing against some fun songs/lyrics but not the complete album. We all know her voice has changed but what I don't understand is, when she was so young she wrote like a grown-up person. Now she's a grown-up and the lyrics are so girly. Normally it's the opposite. Is it all to be trendy and to get to charts again? Wouldn't lyrics that are less girly not work better? Just a question, please don't get it wrong. Something funny, I didn't know what Fendi is. Lol, a luxury brand, now I know. I watched a docu about Gucci yesterday, there they were also talking about the other brands.

Jamie, I don't think that's a clip for the official video. It's another home video clip for TikTok/promotion like she did for TD as well. She looks good, yes the editing is off. She looks so beautiful when she smiles, needs to do that more than these serious expressions that read more lost than sexy. Looking forward to seeing how she performs SS in Brighton. She's going to bring the energy again like the Capital ball.

Shot voice (110,245) by Dove from United States
Brian Wilson still performed into old age, even with a shot voice, and his fans would still come see him. I think she can do it for as long as she's comfortable but I put myself in that spot and I'm not that brave. That's why I get nervous for her. But apparently I've been harsher on her than the general public. I asked my coworker if she liked the new Mariah song on the radio (the coworker who sent me the picture of the little screen in her car) and she said she did. She's young too, I think she turned 24 this year. She would tell me if she didn't like it, she's really blunt.

What Virgin Records could have been for MC (110,242) by Jamie from UK
Yes I agree, they should have given her more of a chance, but I think it was more to do with the negative publicity around her breakdown etc. In those days it wasn't accepted to have any mental health struggles and you were written off.

Update on Type Dangerous (110,241) by Jamie from UK
The UK one is only sales and not the official chart which would be compared to the Hot 100. The official chart is the only one that counts here and I think it even charted on there unfortunately.

I often wonder has she had vocal surgery and this is the result of it. I was listening to I Don't a couple of days ago, and whilst it might not be some people's favourite (I like the song just the video is a no no for me), she's actually singing on it and sounds good, and that was only 2017. Something serious has happened in that time, either personal or vocal surgery gone wrong.

That's cool that she's been responding on X. Maybe that's why she doesn't look happy in the [Sugar Sweet] video, maybe she's realised it's not working. I'm not on X so I can't comment on what they have been saying, but it's nice she's interacting with them.

So Mariah has shown a clip of the new [Sugar Sweet] video. What you guys think? She loves a stairway I'll give her that, remember I Don't. I love the ensemble, she looks really nice. I just wish her face would show it too, she looks miserable, she looked happier in the kitchen clip she did. There's a part in the video where her eyes go to the left like she's looking for direction, it's a poor edit if that's gonna be in the final video. She looks nice, I just don't think it's going to rescue the song.

What Virgin Records could have been for MC (110,237) by Bobby A from United States
I was thinking today and wondering what MC's career with Virgin Records would have been like if they didn't buy out her 80 million dollars contract. The Virgin executives surely didn't support an established artist who had sold millions during the first ten years of her career. Just because her first album for the label didn't live up to their expectations, they decided to cut their losses and buy out her contract for 28 million dollars. Glitter was a soundtrack and not a regular album. They could have given her some grace and allowed MC to record a non soundtrack album. I am just thinking today about the "what if" with Virgin Records after 24 years. Virgin Records has other instances when they did support their artists when they were in a crisis or underperforming like Boy George, Janet Jackson, D'Angelo, and Aalyiah's family.

Sugar Sweet YouTube reviews (110,236) by Dove from United States
I just spent the last hour watching YouTube reviews on Sugar Sweet and all the ones I've watched so far seem to love the song. So maybe I'm wrong. Also, I found my Bose speaker and I can hear the boom more on that speaker.

People were saying the high parts (that I think sound strained) sounded "raw" and they love it. I guess we'll see how it does. All the reviewers I watched I didn't know, I just searched "Sugar Sweet" reviews and followed the trail.

Honestly, if she's going through all that and (if) the voice is totally shot, then she's inviting the scrutiny. It would be better to walk away at that point as she would bring significant damage to her legacy. Other's can't be relied on to do the heavy lifting for a vocalist. If a vocalist has no voice, then it's time to stop.

As for the new song, I'm not surprised at all. Disappointed but not surprised. She is 56 and still talking about getting the ring and all that love struck 20 year old little girl stuff. It's not going to sell in this day and age.

I'm trying to make "fetch" happen (110,234) by Dove from United States
I know nobody liked my idea but I'm going to say it again because I think it's a good idea. One of the songs should start out with that clip of her saying "Imma do the best I can with what I got." Then it should move into an intro like Ghetto Superstar and the song should have a strong beat and guitar riff like that song too. It would be funny.

Going out with a bang (110,232) by Dove from United States
I know it doesn't matter, but I kind of do want to see Mariah at the top again. I want people to discover her back catalog and love her music as much as I do. With how long she takes between projects now, this might be her last album (like Edward said) and I selfishly want her to go out with a bang.

I wouldn't mind if she has to over-engineer songs now, as long as they sound good. I also listened to the songs Bobby A listed, where they're riding the beat, and I like that idea too.

I know The Beatles were only together for 10 years, and they milked those albums forever, but their songs were easy to sing - nobody can sing Mariah like Mariah. So people covering her songs wouldn't help her.

I like the idea of the mini series that was mentioned in the last article. Hopefully they do it justice.
