Independent route? (105,223)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Usher timed his album release around his Superbowl performance. He released his promo single, GLU in early 2023. Then he dropped the official first single, Good Good last summer. This strategy worked for promoting his new album Coming Home. MC needs something similar like headlining a huge outdoor summer concert event along with a summer promo single to garner radio airplay this summer. MC is going to need a radio and Spotify plan to be reintroduce to radio programmers.

Usher has a new album coming out and is performing at the Super Bowl this year and using the promo of the performance to launch his new project. This will be his first project as an independent artist. I'm wondering if Mariah is contemplating doing the same thing and really taking her time to have several projects ready to go. The only issue is that major radio formats don't always play veteran artists past the age of 5. We will never really know if Caution would have been a hit as Epic only sent her singles to Adult AC and Urban AC radio formats instead of top 40 stations. Those small niche markets are where singles go to die a slow death without any hope of climbing. As an independent artist she can decide the singles and what radio formats she would send them to. Would a top 40 station play a new Mariah song? Maybe if it's uptempo but no present day Mariah ballad or mid tempo will get the time of day with major radio formats. Maybe her team can cut a deal with these stations in exchange for Christmas concert giveaways since her Christmas tours keep getting bigger and bigger. There has to be a way they can leverage her Christmas relevancy and dominance to help launch a new record and get it to chart well. Even at her commercial peak Mariah always got polarizing opinions, but it seems that present day Mariah is getting more love and acceptance than ever before.

I agree. I'll thought overall that Mariah looked stunning. Her face, hair, jewelry were all flawless. While not a huge fan of the dress, I will give her kudos for stepping outside of her comfort zone lately fashion-wise and going for more high fashion moments. We know she likes to recycle the same style of black sequined early 2000's dresses with so I'll give her a pass for trying something new. I feel a new era coming soon and if she is continuing to step outside of her comfort zone visually and musically, I can't wait.

Mariah's face looks straight out of 1999 it's crazy. That face no flaws. I'm torn between the dress I'm happy she's indulging in high fashion (she's wearing Schiaparelli) but I don't love the dress. For a second I thought the bodysuit is back haha until I saw the full photo.

Apparently, it's Schiaparelli design from F/W 2023. But it really needed the drama of the train and better draping around her body. I had my suspicion K. Jenner might have had something to do with it, and since discovering it is in fact a designer they regularly work with, it's definitely more of a probability that clan had a hand in this.

Honestly I don't know much more than you about the award but I hear it's not an actual Grammy or part of the main event so it's not a televised award. Apparently Grammy's has a pre Grammy week and this is one of the recognition awards.

Don't hate the player, hate the game (105,210)
by Bobby A from United States

Ariana is emulating MC so much in her newly released Instagram video playing 9 tracks from Eternal Sunshine to her team at Republic. It seems like she has moved back to the pop side by working with Max Martin. Unfortunately, I can't understand why she chose Max Martin though. I have never been a fan of his production. Eternal Sunshine is out March 8th. Freaking, pull it together MC quick and fast. Ariana just may rule 2024.

Don't hate the player, hate the game (105,199)
by Edward from USA

Ariana Grande's "Yes, And" debuted at #1. Out of her 8 #1's, 6 of them have debuted at number one, she now has a tie with Taylor Swift. Drake is behind them with 5. I've been wondering why it is so easy to debut at number one these days, I dug a little and now I understand. Similarly to what they accused Mariah and others of doing back in the 90's with remixes and discounted singles, now the trend is releasing six or seven variation of the same song and discounting the variations. These songs are not remixes technically, but different variations. Besides the original they release longer versions, radio edits, sped up versions, instrumentals and the list goes on. Mariah was heavily critized for similar tactics back in the day, but I actually prefer a great quality remix even if it doesn't resemble the original than this new trend. I think it is kind of lazy. Billboard will eventually crack on these tactics, but maybe by then Ariana, Taylor and Drake will have already surpassed Mariah as the solo artist with the most #1 hits. I don't hate the players, they're just taking advantage of the rules of the game just like Mariah did, but I hate the fact that now a number one doesn't really mean anything. As for Ariana's "Yes, And", I love it. I've been working out to it, I thought she had lost it, but she still has the Midas touch Mariah used to have.

Daydream 30 is coming up in 2025. I know she has some leftover tracks in the vault. I would love for When I Saw You to be recorded as duet with Nick Jonas or Zayn. I would be happy for extended versions on Long Ago and Melt Away. And I would love for David Morales to rework the Daydream interlude with new vocals and percussions from Sheila E.

Mariah should pay them absolute dust. That award show is obsolete in 2024 and Mariah does not need them to acknowledge what the whole world already knows, that indeed she has had powerful lasting impact on the whole world, even in territories where English is a secondary language. It is plain to see that she has triumphed - a true winner, after that 1996 incident the world has not forgotten. If you ask me, that "foiling" was the beginning of the end of this Grammys show. How the mighty have fallen.

Tacking on two Memoirs songs to MIAMTEC (105,201)

Didn't she say that the original version of the album was more ballad heavy, and she went back to the studio to record more songs like Money (I think Camouflage was supposed to close out the album originally, which is why she starts Money with "I can't leave it like that"), OMT and Heavenly? I think she had more than enough tracks to choose from rather than the two leaked songs from MOAIA.

I think MC needed two songs for the deluxe edition that was going to be sold at Target. She didn't have any extra songs from the recording sessions. MC probably thought what two songs with high profile features from the Angels Advocate remix album would make fans buy the deluxe edition. So, we got R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige. My question is why did she include America the Beautiful? Maybe she was trying to be festive for Memorial Day with it being included on the album. Let's hope MC16 has some brillant decisions.

I agree. I think she should have added Triumphant (Vintage remix, with the full rain intro - that should have been the actual single imo), plus the ASAP Rocky Beautiful remix, and call it a day. I absolutely don't understand the America the Beautiful inclusion or a rehash of six year old material. My only guess is that Mary J's label and the sex predictor's labels had a contractual obligation that the songs must be included on an official release, which didn't happen with Angels Advocate, as intended. Also the album art should have been the original Art of Letting Go art (either the one where it's her looking over in the bottom right corner or the actual AOLG single artwork). The standard version that's a Emancipation/E=MC2 redo wasn't the right serve, it was redundant.
