Grammys (113,131) by Giovanni from USA
It's been a while since I've paid attention to the Grammys and boy did I make a mistake tuning in. It was probably the worst Grammy awards ever. It got way too political and the performances were awful. Bad Bunny winning album of the year was the shocker of the night for me. I really thought Gaga was going to take it. And Trevor Noah my guy you have no talent.

I'm sorry but I was not impressed with that tribute. It was all a big disappointment and a slap in the face to Mariah she deserved better. Where was Kelly Clarkson, Ariana, Bruno Mars, Yolanda Adams, Usher, Beyonce even Patti Labelle? I did surprisingly enjoy Kesha and Charlie Puth's performance. Billy Porter was awful and I don't think ABMB was appropriate for him. He was also giving me Whitney Houston in drag with that hair. If you're give a tribute to a legend like Mariah get some better singers.

I've missed you so much and your post had me dying. I agree with you 100%, most of those performances were all a hot mess especially Billy Porter.

Only Mariah (113,128) by Lainsky from Philippines
It's true. No one can touch her vocals, her songs, the way she did it. Only Mariah.

I couldn't agree more. Charlie Puth, I believe, has the best tribute. Everyone else is meh.

I enjoyed some of the performances. Specially Taylor Momsen and Foo Fighters doing the SUD songs. I believe Mariah was most excited about those performances because that is her work that she has been wanting everyone to hear for a while (and because they were the least heard songs they did not come off karaoke at all and fit their styles well). Mariah mentioned a couple of years ago that she was working with a young singer to revive her SUD songs, it could have been Taylor Momsen. She has the Where Are You Christmas connection as well with her and she redid that in her punk style last year. I loved Kesha's efforts and her Instagram post and videos with Mariah you can tell that she does have a genuine appreciation for her.

Charlie Puth was really good but yes there were certainly Mariah originals he could have done well and Teddy Swims was good but a cop out. He could have reimagined an original like David Cook did at American Idol.

JHud - extra as usual but she's a hardcore lamb so she gets a pass. Maggie Rogers and Laufey's were alright. Adam Lambert was Adam Lamberting. I liked it. The only one that abysmal was of course Billy Porter.

I think Mariah enjoyed being celebrated. She looked great. Deluxe now please soon.

MusiCare tribute (113,125) by Lara from Middle East
I loved Kesha's performance, she managed to perform the song without trashing it and yet not copying MC. Charlie Puth is next , I just wish he used an original song of hers. John Legend's rendition of [Hero] was ok. Laufey was ok, that twist on the song is interesting but doesn't fit the kid of the song and also her voice was barely audible. Now that guy who sang ABMB should be banned from singing. Even bad karaoke singers could've done a better job. He sounded like a low imitation Prince and Jennifer Hudson, she came prepared even learning how to whistle with her lips, but girl you should've learned by now that less is more. No need for that much power on [My all]. Anyway I'm glad MC got a tribute but those performances could've been picked up better. Also I don't know but it seems they included her grunge music to test waters.

I think all these tributes just highlight how good Mariah actually is. No one can touch her vocals.

The "neutral expression" was funny. I thought the same. I hope her music ears don't hurt from the noise. But I do believe they all did their best. A Mariah tribute is the hardest thing to do.

I find it funny. They tried so hard, but yes more like a better karaoke. But hey, it's Mariah. Her own songs will never sound good by others. I couldn't listen to the [My all] cover. What was that? Lol. The grunge part was cool. Charlie Puth wasn't so bad. Nice try. Kesha was really funny. Hmm I hope Mariah enjoyed though. Her speech was fantastic and sweet.

After watching a lot of the performances again, I am so disappointed. I need to stop watching videos on my X feed after midnight. Lol. Now I see why a Mariah Carey song is so hard to sing. MC is a freaking musical genius.

Mariah has said she doesn't like people covering her songs, but a tribute is a different thing altogether. They weren't "covering" her music, they were celebrating her legacy by performing it, something she herself has done many times. Probably she didn't like the tribute.

I thought Adam Lambert's rendition of "Can't Let Go", John Legend's rendition of "Hero", and Taylor Momsen/Foo Fighters on "Hermit" and "Love is a Scam" were the standouts. I appreciate Jennifer Hudson's enthusiasm, but she is way too extra when she does Mariah songs. She's a "good singer" but could use more restraint in her approach to singing. I also wish the organizers had chosen additional Mariah originals rather than having people perform "I Still Believe" and "Without You".

Hearing the live renditions of Chick songs makes me anxious to have a full release of "Someone's Ugly Daughter" with Mariah's original vocals. There were articles in The Sun and Daily Mail (rather dubious sources) reporting that it will be released/re-released later this year. Having the songs appear in the tribute signals that this is a strong possibility.

Eekkk I saw some snippets and what is this mess? Why do they always hire the wrong people to do Mariah tributes? It all sounded like they came for a Mariah karaoke night. Poor Mariah was fighting for her life not to leave haha. Also I was excited for a Charlie Puth rendition, why did he choose ISB? Of all the incredible songs Mariah has written herself he chose a song that not only wasn't an important part of her career but more importantly it wasn't written by her. I honestly feel bad that a musical titan like Mariah always ends up with these messy tributes.

I couldn't agree more. The performance was such a mess (I think) that I could barely recognize the song. Mariah, who was caught on camera, appeared to be disapproving but maintained a neutral expression out of respect. Did she ever mention in an interview before that she doesn't like other artists singing her songs? I'm curious how she has dealt with that situation.

Me too. She made Obsessed her own song. MC was really pleased with her performance as she was singing along with a smile. Kesha's performance really made me hear The Dream's melodic influence on Obsessed. Kesha really brought out his playful lyrical style. She has always been known for that.

I thought every artist did a spectactular rendition of MC's songs. The only rendition that I did not particularly like was Maggie Rogers' soulful version of Honey. She made Honey too soulful for me. She stripped the melody down way too much that I could not understand what she saying. I give her performance a 4 out of 10.
