Finally, somebody's getting it.The woman is doing stuff on the charts that even younger artists are struggling to do. I feel that if you want a more demure artist then why not support them?

Pfff, you guys are so nostalgic and stuck in the past. What's with this boomer mentality? It's 2025, and you're still rambling about American Idol, Nicki this, Nicki that, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Jewel something like be for real. Yeah, maybe the average 40+ person would mention them but today's main pop girls are Charli, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor, Billie, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. And guess what? Mariah is still more relevant than ever.
Even Miley Cyrus just gave Mariah her flowers, while Celine Dion (love her though) showed up and got no recognition from Taylor on stage. That's the industry it picks and chooses who it respects. But Mariah? She doesn't need that validation anymore. Billboard literally just named her the #1 pre-2000s female artist of the 21st century, and #12 overall. These aren't just opinions or some delusional fan made resume these are some serious facts.
And this whole "Mariah needs to be serious" mentality. You just want Hero Mariah just like Tommy did. But she was never just that girl. She loves the hood, she's camp, she's extra, and she's always been the dramatic woman we saw in Mariah's World. It's wild how so many of you refuse to see the bigger picture Mariah isn't just a pop star, she's an institution in pop culture.
She can't reverse her age, physical condition, or mental state, nobody can. Even Beyoncé the queen of perfection isn't selling like she used to and still gets called overrated. Madonna? People call her a grandma on stage. Taylor? Gets dragged for her dancing. The whole "perfect pop star" image is a 90s corporate fantasy. Pop culture, audiences, and marketing have evolved y'all just refuse to evolve with it.
And let's talk relevance. Mariah can show up at an award show, turn her head to the left, and it's an instant viral meme. Since the NYE disaster, she's been more relevant than ever. Yeah, people associate her with Christmas, but they also respect the hustle. She's so "irrelevant" that she keeps collecting Icon Awards left and right.
And about Mariah being a "ditzy diva who lost track of reality"? I love Wendy Williams, but we all saw how that ended. For someone who supposedly doesn't have it together, Mariah is still living life on her own terms, blowing her money as she pleases, and not under a conservatorship. That alone is a win in my book.
And honestly, people need to realize that she's just a 50 year old, half a billion dollar worth rich woman living her best life on yachts cruising the coast of Capri in the winter. She is completely unbothered. She doesn't care about you, me, or whatever is happening online. Her career doesn't define her anymore, it hasn't for a long time. She collects her checks, enjoys her sparkling drinks, and keeps it moving. So why are you stressing yourself out over it?
Do I cringe sometimes at the diva act? Sure. Do I wish she had more energy? Maybe. But am I gonna sit here writing an essay about how she supposedly became an "unserious" artist? No. If you're so obsessed with nostalgic Mariah, go watch old performances on YouTube. But free yourself from this toxic outdated way of thinking. She's still here, still winning, and still making history whether you like it or not.

Very pathetic to insult other fans on this messageboard, just because you don't agree with their views. Me too misses the old, down to earth Mariah. So all these insults are also directed at me.

Wow, I really could not believe what I was reading in these messages on this message board. [censored] Mariah fans picking Mariah apart with a fine tooth comb, trying to compare her to what she was in the 90's, trying to make Mariah the image you want her to be or think what she should be. [censored] I find it really sad that you feel that Mariah has to be perfect [censored] or that her speech wasn't as good as you wanted it to be. Mariah has accomplished more in her life than 99.9% of people on this planet, she doesn't need to satisfy all your [censored] issues as well.
I remember coming to this message board all the time and remember how good and fun it was to chat with the fans and checking out the discography (I see that's gone), Eric (if you still run this site) what happened?
[censored] And before you [censored] fans come at me with "I'm just being honest and saying what I think", yeah well sometimes you're unwanted opinion just makes you look like a [censored]. And also no, don't try give me that "I've been a fan since" rubbish either, before you consider yourself a fan, google what the word fanatic means. [censored]

Boy, you have sum up MC's career in one post. It is not that we are stuck in the past, but we merely miss the old MC who gave a damn about giving 100%. MC spoiled us in the beginning with her perfectionist attitude about her career, songs, and performances. I miss that MC. I miss the studio pics. I miss MC working with the current hottest R&B producer. Mike Will Made It, Dev Hynes, and Danja were all in awe what she brought to table during the songwriting sessions. I miss the excitement waiting for MC to reveal new music was dropping on a certain date. I want the MC back who wrote her most playful lyrics of her career in 2005 with ILT.

This article made me smile. It must be a good feeling for MC to finally experience chivarly from a man who clearly understands courtship. I am happy Anderson is in her life. She needs someone who understands her and the whole music industry. Anderson clearly gets MC. I just wonder has MC told him everything that has happened since the Caution era. I am playing Leave the Door Open now. Lol. His vocals are so good.

Perfectly written Jamie. What I still don't understand, how can a young Mariah be grown-up, grounded and communicative while the grown-up and older MC seems the opposite in a lot of ways. That's a bit strange. The same with the lyrics. I prefer her lyrics when she was a tween. That's funny. Yeah the aliens must be the real reason.

This is perfectly put. I still haven't got over how she dressed in the [Heartbreaker] remix video. Those types of choices are what have cheapened her over the years and lost her wider fanbase. [You're] allowed to do music you like but when you deviate too far from your core fanbase or appeal then [you're] in trouble. Even Madonna the queen of reinvention faced backlash especially during the Erotica era and Madonna portrayed an edgy and sexy approach from the start. Mariah was portrayed as a contemporary pop artist, and she completely removed herself from that base and she lost a huge fanbase. I like RnB Mariah, I like she dipped her toe in that side of things, she appeared cool and edgy whilst remaining composed and still catering to her core fanbase. Then I feel she embraced or took it too far for the general public to relate too. She was no longer the person they thought she was, and only real loyal fans like us have stuck with her, but even we question her choices. It's like she was captured by aliens at the end of the 90's and returned to earth as a completely different person. Hey we all change to a degree but I feel even as a life long fan, I have difficulty recognising how we got from Mariah to MC I watch early videos etc and from 1999 onwards and I still can't get my head around how completely different she is personality wise. Come back Mariah, it's time.

Thank you Shezz and Edward for reading my message and understanding what I was trying to say. You know, if you ask an average person on the street who the great singer songwriters are, they will say Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Jewel maybe Alicia Keys, Sarah McLachlan, Lauryn Hill, Paula Cole. The reason why I care about the way MC carries herself image wise is because she is lumped in with the vanity songwriters. Madonna is a songwriter. Janet Jackson is a songwriter. Beyonce is a songwriter. Do you really think MC is on the level of the three I just mentioned? But to the general public and the music industry it's like "yeah yeah yeah you write songs". If I could get an earth-wide loudspeaker and closed captioning in the sky, I'd play Close My Eyes, Languishing, Petals, Butterfly, Vanishing, My All, Outside, Looking In and Right To Dream for the world. But since I don't have those means the most I can do is scream on this board, MC you're making a fool of yourself and tarnishing your legacy. Check out this exchange here. And of course there will be those who insult Wendy and downplay what was said. But if Mariah talks about lighting, ensembles, says she's eternally 12, and has a man to carry her umbrella, is anyone gonna believe she writes the best kcufin songs ever recorded? Oh and let me address the bitter old queen remark. I can't say what I want to say because it won't get posted. You could never, on your best day, with AI assistance, outwit me. I have a resume and a CV. Find yourself a schoolmate with a chipped tooth and peanut allergy to play with. I'm the principle principal up in this bitch. That's all.

Bravo. Some like to think Mariah is incapable of making a mistake. They refuse to take off the rose colored glasses. Then say to those of us who stopped wearing those glasses a long time ago, you aren't a real fan, blah, blah, blah. When all we want as fans is to see Mariah revered for the once in a generation talent that she is.

Mariah, before fully embracing her diva persona, had a massive fanbase and was taken far more seriously. Being her fan felt like a badge of honor. I celebrated every time she hit number one and proudly showed everyone in my circle of friends the killer voice she had, her performances. But over time, she alienated a large portion of that fanbase with some of her choices. Some of those choices were justified because it was only a matter of time before she would start putting out the type of music that she liked, but some other choices were totally detrimental to her career and image, choices that didn't have anything to do with her artistry.
While I still acknowledge and celebrate her accomplishments, I've learned to keep my fandom to myself because, as the years passed, admitting to being a Mariah fan was seeing as weird, unless you had a "I'm Gay" sign written on your head, something I prefer to keep to myself. The shift in perception began when she adopted that cheap, exaggerated and sometimes shady Marilyn Monroe persona.
Celine, and Whitney with her struggles, always maintained a level of respect and relatability that Mariah started losing as she got more famous. She started believing her own hype. Now she is the least respected, not because of her talent, since she's the better overall artist, but because how she chose to present herself. And no, Tommy didn't have anything to do with it. For at least 8 years, Mariah was just as revered as the other two, but some of her choices made her fall from that pedestal.
Out of four judges on American Idol, she was the most experienced to give advice and guide the contestants. She had the perfect platform to show the world her greatness, her genius, but instead, she came out as insecure and petty sometimes, getting late to some of the auditions claiming they had to put up with it because she was a diva. At the end, Nicki ended up being a better judge.
If Mariah is so great to be praised for her accomplishments, she should be held accountable for her failures. End of the rant.

I definitely approve of Anderson from an aesthetics standpoint. He's very good looking, and he seems like he has a kind and upbeat persona. Also quite talented from a musical standpoint. Overall, he's probably one of Mariah's better choices in terms of men.

Anderson Paak is a fine looking gentleman, though. Maybe he is using his connections in the industry to help MC get her voice back. If anybody can get MC to think about having vocal surgery, it is Anderson Paak. He is definitely standing by her side showing he cares about MC.

I came to that realization on Valentine Day when MC didn't make a new music annoucement after her Vegas shows. Shezz, have you noticed that Nostradamus hasn't made hardly any MC new music tweets this year?

I agree. Was it the best speech? No. She is clearly going through some problems and if she would rather have a little bit of fun and be a little ditsy rather than give an inspirational speech, so be it. Maybe she doesn't have it in her at this point to do so. I think her work is far more powerful to be brought down by a speech. I don't think that people who were disappointed by her speech should not comment and move on. Clearly they still love her and want her to shine. What is the point of a messageboard if you can't read a mix of opinions? I personally feel the world tears her down enough, but I understand when others want more. I'm not being a yass queen but I don't think her speech was catastrophic.
Health and happiness to MC and the board. Chin up Bobby, she may not give us another album but we'll get something from her this year.

Not sure what last night represented for MC or her career at the iHeart Awards. I don't love it at all though. In any which way. She came across as under the influence of something. The only poignant moment re her mom was another pained expression on her face that seemed detached from reality and lost in space. If this is what Mr Paak brings then he can paak and go. She and her children don't need this influence. At a time when she should be showcasing her impact and significance she comes across as zany, addicted, self-absorbed and irrelevant. Not even a word of offering hope and persistence to so many hurting in this horrible world we are in. Nothing. And I don't think there is any new album or material at all. I think it's all over and she knows it. All she has is a little bit of Christmas and that's it. It's over.

Accountability, kryptonite to Yass Queens (108,376)
by Edward from USA

That's all.

I doubt these critics took her seriously when she was not a diva. Why should she change now? I wouldn't take the critics seriously if they were fawning over artists who did worse than Mariah.

That's exactly what I was telling Randy earlier today, I don't think any new music is coming. I just hope she keeps releasing those unreleased tracks from past eras because I'm sure she has plenty. More than anything, I just want Mariah to be healthy for her children. While she seemed heavily medicated, at least she didn't appear to be drunk or high.
Her speech felt like the same tired, recycled diva act. She's an icon, but if she continues down this path, she won't ever be taken seriously.
Another thing, I never thought I'd see the day when a "yass queen" would complain about bitter queens on this board. Truly iconic.

"Caution" is turning seven this year, and it was only a 10-track album. Judging by her vocals on the "Yes, And?" remix, it's clear the studio can only do so much for her voice at this stage. It is what it is. I just hope she preserves what's left for her Christmas shows.
I personally don't see the point of Mariah stating the obvious. She doesn't have a secret.

I need to say this out of love and concern for MC. What is it going to take for MC to let the Lambs know what is going on? I hope she doesn't wait again until there is a threat of a leak to the media. Something is not right with MC. If she let us know on her own terms, then it would be better for her in the long-term. Five years from now and no new album is going to be devasting to her career. Have you noticed that she doesn't mention anymore about working on new music? Listening to Chris Brown's Residuals on the radio makes me miss hearing MC on the radio.

I totally agree and something isn't right with her. The only thing that night gave me was the realisation how good Mariah was, those two singers came no where close to the we way she sang those songs. Maybe [you're] right, her realisation of how good she was is maybe getting to her and she knows it's over. Maybe that's the whole problem.

There are so many bitter queens on this board. Was I saddened and heartbroken to see my lifelong icon on stage, clearly struggling with mobility issues and moving stiffly? Yes. But people forget that, at the end of the day, she is not just a public figure or a manufactured pop star who exists to obey a delusional, overly demanding fanbase.
Give her some slack and show some empathy. She will never be her former self, just as we will never be the same people we were ten years ago. She had her glory days, the golden era of pop. Now, I'm just glad she's alive, somewhat enjoying the rest of her life with her kids.
It's really unhealthy to claim to support someone while being so eager to tear them down. Does it hurt me to see her in this state? Yes. But I understand that she's human too, with a very complicated past, and she has lived a life that only a handful of people in the world could ever relate to.
If you don't approve of her anymore, then move on. But don't continue bullying a woman, a mother, in her 50s. Accept her as she is or let her be. Don't project your own version of her onto the world. Just move on.
